Today we're going to have some fun with the water painting techniques we've been learning. It seems apt that the Lunar new year has just been celebrated with this little cycle of the moon piece of art.

Using some clever masking we can create a lovely little tableau. A technique you can then apply to all sorts of cards and artworks!

Hello to our new Patrons! If this is your first watercolour challenge then I recommend going back through the previous challenges to get yourself up to speed and see how this all works.

All the while you can access all the tutorials on my youtube channel if you would like to go through some watercolour for beginners basics or brush up on other skills.

This is a private youtube link which only you Sweet Pea and Cherry Blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

A range of brushes.

Colours I used: French Ultramarine Blue,  Prussian Blue Burnt Sienna, Mars Black, Prussian Blue.

Watercolour paper (cold pressed is my go-to).

jar of water

kitchen roll to blot the brush.

pencil, eraser and ruler.

washi tape

After watching the video...(if you can watch it on a screen larger than a phone that will improve the viewing experience as there is a little bit of pencil drawing at the start)

Have a go at the version I created in the tutorial and then play around with masking out different shapes and different compositions!

I am looking forward to see how you get on! Use #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progress.

Comment below with your findings, and if you are sharing your work on Instagram, use the #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco.

It was a really pleasure to paint this challenge, still I should practise the way you paint your waves, because it is not easy for me.

de Winton Paper co.

Yes waves take some time to get used to but it's all about having a go when yo fancy a bit of painting and it will become more natural a process.
