Happy Tuesday everybody, here is the next episode of the townhouse painting challenge where we take a look at the best ways to paint beautiful red brick.

Please note in the last minute of this video - when I'm summing up - our audio quality went a little funny, I do apologise. Sometimes the technology lets you down! But it doesn't infringe on the rest of the video and you can still clearly hear what I'm saying. It's just not as crisp as the rest of the tutorial.

A very warm welcome to our new Patrons! If this is your first watercolour challenge then I  recommend going back through the previous challenges to get yourself up to speed and see how this all works. All the while you can access all the tutorials on my youtube channel if you would like to go through some watercolour for beginners basics or brush up on other skills.

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

Your pencil drawing from last week.

A small paintbrush, we look at how to choose the right one in this video.

Colours I used: Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Orange, Burnt Sienna, French Ultramarine Blue

Jar of water

Kitchen roll to blot the brush

Pencil and ruler

After watching the video...(if you can watch it on a screen larger than a phone that will improve the viewing experience as there is quite a bit of pencil drawing at the start)

see how well each of your brushes can create a brick shape in as few strokes as possible. The ultimate aim is to find one that can do it in a single stroke.

Try out your brick painting technique on a separate piece of paper first until you are happy with it.

Choose where on your townhouse you will put brick work and mark a few horizontal guidelines to keep the bricks in check.

Paint your bricks!

Although this is a work in progress I would still encourage sharing your work. Use #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progres

Comment below with your findings, and if you are sharing your work on Instagram, use the #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco.

Have a wonderful week.
