Happy Tuesday everyone! A very warm welcome to our new Patrons. April is the month of blossoms of all kinds and today we are continuing our flower painting learning with Blackthorn blossom.

Following on from last weeks cluster of yellow primroses we are going to paint another cluster of flowers but this time adding a loose watercolour wash background. Thank you to Patron Richard Loader for the use of his image. Image attached for a closer look.

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

Beautiful, Harriet. I can hardly wait to get out my brushes and paint with you. This is so exciting!

Lily Anne Baldwin

I LOVE this. I can’t wait to try it this weekend. Thank you for the tutorial!

This is gorgeous Harriet and I'm really looking forward to working on it! It's good to challenge ourselves with new styles and techniques :).

I'm very excited to give this challenge a go tomorrow! I feel like I have more confidence after practicing with todays YouTube tutorial.

Ah wonderful. Yes I like to have a bit of a link so there is extra tuition on youtube to back up the more challenging aspects of our Patreon challenges.

I really found out how little I know with this tutorial. Too advanced fir me. I struggled with the edges being swept away by the background. I gave up on the stamen. Lost the definition on my petals ended up painting them a darker color. Wow I sound so negative. It was not your teaching, but my level of ability . Trash this one up to practice and experience. Thanks fir the tutorial your finished product was beautiful.

Let me just add that my Hawthorne branch with honey bees was lovely.

I’m giving this another try now that I realize my weaknesses.

Hi Kay, yes this is certainly a more advanced approach. I recommend going right back to the first few watercolour challenges to help build your confidence as well as looking at the various flower painting tutorials on my youtube channel before having another go at this

I went back and watched numerous videos on blending as my background was not smooth enough for liking. I have completed all of your lessons on YouTube however practice, practice, and more practice. Thank you so much for your helpful comment always.

Third time is better ,but still not nice enough even to show my mother. Lol

Ah Kay I bet it's lovely. Well done for keeping on with it. It's all about practise. I never get things right first time

Hi Harriet, yes you are right, it was quite difficult, so I have done a second time to enjoy more, and to learn also. It's very good to learn with you. Again, once more THANK YOU, your way to teach is perfect.

@emporteplume

Wow I enjoyed doing this one. For the background I cheated and tested a beautiful handmade duochrome watercolor that did all the job by itself :-).
