Happy Tuesday everyone! A very warm welcome to our new Patrons. We are pressing forward with our flower painting challenges. Today is our first go at putting different flowers together and choosing a colour palette.

If you are new to my Patron and concerned this feels a bit advanced, I highly recommend going back to my first few watercolour challenges which are great introductory tutorials as well as my Watercolour Painting for Beginners playlist on my Youtube channel.

This is a private youtube link which only you sweet pea and cherry blossom patrons have access to.

You will need

some watercolour paper (and some scrap paper to try out your colour palette)

A range of paintbrushes

Paint

Jar of water

Kitchen roll to blot the brush

Eraser & pencil

After watching the video...

If you need to, have a look at the following flower painting tutorials:

Buttercup tutorial

Daisy tutorial

and my attached PDF Bluebell worksheet (free for you, normally £3 in my web shop).

Then paint along with the watercolour challenge and see how you get on!

Share your pieces on instagram using #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco. And please do have a look at everyone else's interpretations of the brief (search the hashtag and you will see all the patreon insta posts from everyone in here) and celebrate each other's work. We learn from seeing how others interpret a single brief so a community encourages progres

Comment below with your findings, and if you are sharing your work on Instagram, use the #dwpcchallenge and tag me @dewintonpaperco.

Have a wonderful week.

This is beautiful! The challenge for me is the stems! I'm gong to go back and do the buttercups.

Kay lane

Great success with this one!

Tina Moore

I agree - as a new member it's all a bit of a stretch for me but my stems don't really look that natural! Lots more practice needed :-)

Kay lane

I haven’t been able to figure out how to post in Instagram or view other’s painting, but I’m still trying. Enjoyed this very much

Linda Bloom

I always have shaky stems!

Linda Bloom

I haven't either. I tried but didn't know what to do or where to click.

Kay lane

‘I’m glad I’m not the only one. I did finally find out how to view other peoples painting by going to the magnifying glass and typing in #dwpcchallenge. But to add mine is still a mystery. Let’s promise to tell if we discover how. Pinky promise.

Kay lane

Linda Bloom I did it, but I tried so many things I don’t know how I did.

Susan Randolph

in steps 4 & 5 in the bluebell tutorial did you mean to say STEM mix or should it say PETAL mix?

Maria Cromer

I was confused too. I think it's petal mix.

No worries Tina, this is definitely a lot to ask of a beginner but you've got the right attitude. You can start just having a go at the individual flowers singly youtube tutorials before putting them all together if you like

so, what you do is just post a normal picture on your grid - the square images that are part of your home page feed. And in the comment you can type #dwpcchallenge and it will automatically add itself to a collection of images with that hashtag. To find that collection of images you click on the magnifying glass at the bottom of your instagram screen, then type #dwpcchallenge into the search bar at the top and you will find everyone's pictures!
