The Year of the Scavenger vs. The Season of the Bitch. This ain't rock'n'roll ... unless it's genocide.

Good Morning Michael. Thank you for what you put into the universe.

Funk

good morning michael, thanks for my soundtrack for my commute today

“The alchemical index of sound as it reacts in the alembic of your imagination” - followed by ‘the word was God’ is heavy shit… all that follows in my pain addled brain is Burroughs’ conceit that language is an alien virus…

No one does Bowie analysis like you Mike. Genius shit.

The song that hit me in the middle of this episode was "1980s rock and roll" by GG and The Jabbers. The exuberance, the emptiness, the call back to that 50s teenage dream feel. The GeeG is a condemnable person, for sure, however, "Hated" still remains a feel good movie for me. Someone does what they want and then they die: the movie. In his case it was flinging shit which isn't my bag but, hey when in new hampshire...

Back around 2010 I lived with "counter-culture" people and was struck by an observation of the belief systems of most of them. The militant atheists largely believed in aliens, the spiritually inclined were obsessed with the new world order, I heard about secret societies, the cathars, the rosecrucians, anti-vax, the templars, astrology, half-ass gnostic ideas. On the whole, someone, something, some organization, had to be "in charge", there had to be a grand design. Because the truth that we live in the nicer part of the convenience store and that the "grand cabal" or whatever the fuck was just a loose association of rich fucks and military contractors trying to make sure they always had what they wanted, could always feel how they wanted to feel, and that on each quarterly report the line trended up and to the right really lacks the kind of romantic appeal most people want out of the internal narration of their own lives.

Also damn dude, I know that you put a lot of time and effort and suffering into the work you make but if you have the time and margin could you please record a series of poetry readings? I would subscribe to another channel that was just you reading verse and prose and I doubt I'd be alone in that.

i was just listening to the white album, and your mention of lennon overstating the political impact of their work is all the funnier for the fact that this album knows they ain't changing shit. better i guess to kiss atop the crumbling wall and be a hero...just for one day...

I don't think I ve ever heard anyone talk about the "imperial boomerang" being even close to as bad in terms of suffering for people here as the atrocities being committed overseas, really felt like a strawman. Other than that, great episode.

Kamran Husain

i get to walk by the black family visual art center a lot and if you think all those guys were “boys” for like you are stupid

NYCM&AHole

I feel dumb asking this but please tell me you didn’t do an episode on outboard gear in echoes bones?

kallampero

I got excited when I though you were about to nail my favorite *new* testament passage about the kingdom of heaven being in the mind of a child.

Thanks for the heavy lifting. Appreciate you.

Love you Michael (parasocially). Your work means so much to me and many many others I’m sure.

Hi Michael, I walked through an ancient forest in Athens this morning and asked the old gods to transfer all of your suffering to the IDF. Please stick around, I think it might work.

Ana

Hi Michael, thinking of you and I hope you are doing okay ❤️ come back whenever/ if ever you feel like it

Nick Balaz

Take care of yourself, Michael. I hope something out there helps you feel even a little bit better soon.

Jesusgod

We really do love you Mike. Don’t over think it.

This blows my mind because it links everything in your entire podcast back around to Bowie. The gravity's rainbow, JFK/CIA and BlackStar stuff is what kept me all these years. Your appearance on Truanon was a great performance but I never expected what I got from this podcast based on that. One thing I miss is the impersonations. Cucked Nixon and the John hurt I still listen to for a laugh. Also the "welcome to heaven" transition for Kissinger. But this episode with the seance really sets the scene, the Theater within which Bowie mounts the stage. This really shapes the view so that your earlier analysis is just self evident. You've never come right out with this view of the Epstein stuff, and it's exactly like that scene near the end of eyes wide shut. Just like it was with his execution. It was advertised in advance, it happened right before our eyes. It was blatant. Everything that happened was the most essential version of polite respect of sensibilities it could have been. The naked assassination of the fallen servant was carried out so that everyone knew exactly what it was, and yet it seemed as inevitable and correct as it ultimately was in this world and culture.

Just read this (NYRB 3/12/2020 [i.e.December]), and thought of you on Pynchon since GR: ‘After 1924 there was no more poetry. Valery explained: Nothing so pure could coexist with the conditions of life. We cross the idea of perfection the way a hand, with impunity, crosses a flame; but you cannot live inside the flame, and the homes of the highest serenity are necessarily abandoned.’ As you said.

BORING GIRLS

Always relieved to hear you say outloud what most people won’t even let themselves think

Vivek Dandekar

What was the song in the beginning of the episode? Right after he says 'oh shit the machine's starting up I gotta go' (I'm paraphrasing)?
