I see you're a fan of Bacon's portrait of Gilbert Gottfried.

You responding to my psychic telegraph?

Slicing up mushrooms for spaghetti sauce as Michael talks about their intelligence...

Sorry to hear about what's going on, you were all right on the Foucault-Derrida issue & Derrida's response "Cogito & the History of Madness." As it turns out I just did Meditations with my world lit class this week, after not having read it for about 30 years. Jupiter House is in the same place, has been renovated extensively. The place had to be completely gutted down to the studs after the MiniMall next door burned to the ground 4 years ago; the smoke damage to the buildings around it was intense. The couches are long gone: it is very much a restaurant-seating-style place now, not really a hangout. It looks nice though.

The self can reason the will to do just about anything, with enough trickery; in situations like what I think I’m hearing here the will needs to focus on staying fucking alive.

Is the end of this episode meant to relate to the beginning? Are we to ponder the “rationality” of self-termination?

Been a wild week - reading Libra, watched Stone’s documentary on JFK (2 hour version), and finished Francis Connolly’s Rich Man’s Trick banned documentary on Nazis, JFK and 9/11. I’m tired man - hope you are getting better ❤️‍🩹

I've not listened yet, but judging from the title its another one about the pain of awareness of oneselves... There was a time when I suffered this to what sounds like a fraction of mike's condition and that was fucking brutal. I've spent today feeling the much lesser pain and depression from having just broken my ribs in the exact spot I just recovered from breaking a couple months back, and fuck do I cheer up when I consider it's just the physical part. Although opiate hangovers tip me close to the edge of that pit I'm scared to even acknowledge exists in my territory. Always skirted as widely as possible. Cheers Mike take it easy man.

Unrelated to this ep but I remember you saying you liked Johnny Greenwood’s score in your episode on The Master. I just saw Spencer and he once again knocked it out of the park with that score. Gets into some Bitches Brew era Miles Davis sounding stuff. Highly recommend

Love these two episodes. Heady as fuck.

Great Episode Michael - You are really in my Wheelhouse you truly are - I wondered down to the local Movie Theatre to get my Pop Culture Fix. I was was watching a new movie about Bond. It bugged the shit out me. Then I realised. The underlying story is about Absolute Fucken Madness run amok. In the context of this Podcast. Thanks Michael that brain scratch has gone. Good Timing 👍 Having grown up with Bond since the 60s Cold War blah blah. Allot my mates fathers archetype was Bond. Along with Mary which I have always found an Ironic real name for Mr Wayne. The Question I ask is why Bond has never been has never been a Comic Book Hero or portrayed as one in the same sense as Superman or Batman. Or even Mr Wayne for that matter. Maybe we might have had a completely different western world if they had been. Just bouncing the ball that’s all. I apologise to The Comicbook officious if Bond or Mr Wayne have been turned into Comicbook superhero’s in advance.

Hey, I'm new to this podcast, and I'm starting from the beginning. I just finished 72# about the JFK assassination, but 73# doesn't seem to exist. Can anybody direct me to it? Thanks from Osaka.

I love this line of thinking. It really resonates with me. Are there other writers/philosophers/texts that, if not perfectly in line, at least parallel to this to explore?

Shiv

I’m only at the cold open and I’m mad at you for making me laugh this hard, bc I know you’re not kidding! 💔

Lukas McCutcheon

I don’t know if this is a pain or if I can find the answers somewhere already, but do you have thoughts (which you care to try and divulge) on the use of or instances of “contrapasso” in The Inferno?

Marc Schneider

You ought to read Slavoj Žižek on Hegel. I think you'd find his Hegel to be more simpatico than the strawman created by the "postmodernists" (cursed word, but you know what I mean).

Derek Kuiper

I think you'd get a kick out of Relational Frame Theory. It points to the same kind of "logic as a neural network/ecosystem" idea.
