I am the only sentient being in existence, and when I die (secretly I'll never die), the universe will look like a deserted circus tent. "The Sailor is in the City buying up TIME."

Howdy Michael no pressure on your brother but I’m really looking forward to his ep on “Barry Lyndon”. Amazing film and rich text so there’s a lot to get into but let him know from at least one fan that I can’t wait to hear it!!

Jake Rogers

Yo this is the best cold open since the JFK eps. Much respect!

This is true of Canada it functions as means of financialized claims on Assets w/ the added costs of Economic Rents onto the Real Economy of Goods and Services. Natural Resource Rent is the Mining Sector's financialized claim on public Assets w/ out a tax on their claims to profits from the Ground Rent or intrinsic Value of it's resource wealth.

Hey-o! Mikey J is back in black. This fuckin guy is smart, like college smart, this guy. His brother Paulie, reviews the important movies, like Goodfellas and Casino! I seen them movies about a hundred million times and this fuckin guy makes me wanna watch em again, that’s all I’m sayin. They don’t make movies like that. But Mikey J! Fughettaboutit! Smartest guy in the room without sounding queer! I especially most like how he backs the blue cause those boys are out there everyday keeping our streets safe from jazz, but also Osama, take him or leave him, savage in a cave with a faggy dress, hear me out, hear me out, Mikey J got my back. He got respect. He demanded respect. It didn’t work out so good in the end, but it was because the queers voted in Obama and the two names are like the same, so there can be only one like that head chop Scottish movie my step son showed me last week. Mikey J and Paulie, too - get out of Passaic and come to Trenton. The local boys from 97.1 The Eagle do a broadcast at Chili’s and I personally know the manager Brandon in that establishment. And karaoke after so it’s fuckin awesome!

Ever considered an episode on Wilhelm Reich?

by far the longest and most unlistenable cold open yet. 10/10

This is the best explication of what’s useful in Heidegger I’ve ever heard. MJ, have you read Richard Powers novel “The Overstory”? I’m not crazy about the prose, but it really gets at the “in itself-ness” of the natural world, trees especially, as you discuss. Great episode.

Really looking forward to this episode, but going slightly off topic: I re-listened to the extraordinary Ghost Rosary Contagion (ep. 96, which I recommend to anyone who hasn’t yet heard it, and I’m sure you’ll get plenty out of it even if you haven’t read Gravity’s Rainbow) on a drive between Glasgow and Edinburgh this week. During the episode, in a brief digression, the possibility of an episode on MLK is hinted at…I don’t think such an episode ever materialised, am I right? Or if I’m wrong can someone please tell me the number?

Plant enthusiasts: My entire house is filled with lovely flowers and ferns and whatnot. Botanists: The only piece of flora in my house is a small tray of wheat grass and I keep a gun next to it so I can shoot it if it makes a noise I don't recognize.

As you reach the city limits, a sign on the side of the highway greets you: "Calgary: Be part of the energy." You slam on the brakes as the Punisher skull on an F350's tailgate comes rushing at you. You stop in time but there's a loud bang that makes you worry about the swing of your truck nuts doing damage to the underside of your F150. You see the reason for the stop -- a large concrete barricade has emerged from the ground to block the highway. What sounds like an air raid siren wails in the distance. On a rise in the prairie highway you join a group of hotdog necks pointing sausage fingers at the horizon. The setting sun glints off the Suncor Energy Tower as it and all the other downtown skyscrapers recede into subterranean chambers. A 200m tall wacky wavy dancing air tube man flails upwards where the buildings stood a moment ago. You've gleaned from very sublte context clues that the wacky dancing airtube man is a likeness of "gay justin trudeau in blackface." Then you see it: the Calgary PD's new evangelion, prog knife at the ready, squared off against wacky wavy gay justin trudeau in blackface. The bitumen instrumentality project has begun.

I dunno, I think the internet is artificially boosting your awareness of left sectarianism more than you even realize here. Like, if we're talking about left parties that can put a dozen people on the street any given Tuesday in the five largest cities in the country, there's maybe 4 of them (and that's counting the Greens). And my dumb-guy take on finding a political home flows from there; just find the people physically nearest you who are visibly pushing in the right direction and add your shoulder to the wheel. I might have more fleshed out ideological reasons for why I am where I am, but that's the main one, and it doesn't have to go deeper than that.

tree tings I gotta say after dis fuckin whacko episode 1. Excellent recreation of the new jerseyan Italiano-Americano mind palace, felt like I was back home 2. The abstraction-to-extraction bit got me honed into thinking on the themes of that in Moby Dick- with Ahab in particular being the embodiment of the destructive, totalizing narcissistic rage of the wounded conquering european you mention of in this ep. thinking specifically of when Ahab points a musket at Starbuck after being questioned over the leaking whale oil and then comparing himself to God. 3. When/if do you the Melville episode(s?) please speak on about Meghan Trainor being from Nantucket. Thanks for another brilliant ep 🙏

Oof maron! Sometimes Tony’s sessions go off the rails! Santa Maria! 😎🤌🤌

Mike Bilbe-Taylor

Excellent episode, lost my shit at the "real big dickhead" cops with badges around their necks and the Eva reference!

Jake

Absolute banger of an ep, loved the intro and great points throughout. Everyone says Freud's a moron until a politician says something like "our enemies never stop thinking of ways to harm Americans, and neither do we." Also, your discussion of not pigeonholing yourself into a hyper specific ideology from like 75 years ago and the part where you brush on panpsychism both reminded me of the podcast Fight like an Animal, which clashed amusingly with your take on science. You/listeners should check it out and see what you can think with it

This was a great episode. We need a new ontology, a new way of thinking about ‘self’ in relation to the ‘other’ so that others no longer exists. I’ll explain a bit. I do think a nondualist ontology, a mystic’s understanding of these matters is what we need. Here, God is revealed as an infinite consciousness and the universe (realm of forms) as a vibrational symphony unfolding in God. The ethical implication to the notion that the Artist lives inside the Art as all creatures is that all suffering is relevant and cannot be ignored. The suffering of homeless people, for example, is my suffering. I do not “share” their suffering. No, the experience of sleeping on a sidewalk is my experience and no one else’s, for I am all creatures at once. The Truth is that the category “not God” is not a valid category in reality. This is precisely the ontology we need. The ‘other’ is revealed as ‘self,’ which is totally incompatible with the basic assumptions of capitalism and of domination in general.

Great episode! Ive been thinking a lot lately about the settler/capitalist/western mindset versus an indigenous lens be the abstraction/extraction framework makes a lots of sense. the song at the end- that’s a MSJ original?

YourBabysFather

I would take this one step further and say that we’re not even human anymore as of now, our grandparents were more human than us and every generation before that it’s just been getting hollowed out of us like Howard Beale’s humanoids. I keep re-watching the scene where Max breaks up with Diana in the Network and I can’t help but feel like myself and everyone I know is Diana and that there’s only an idea of a max left inside of us somewhere, (I replace Television with Internet and that scene is incredibly prescient) Technology has hollowed us into husks

Kate Baldwin

Amazing episode. So sad Felix hasn't called me thug or pimp instead of baby 😔

I think use me is the only groove I could listen to for that long without any variation. Shits slick as hell
