Kinda expected the Baxxid to take this hard.

Autumn Minnchilla

I’m really curious to know their histories on the development of Baxxid as a society. The way they speak about it really reminds me of We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story (if anyone else gets that reference)

John C Butler

Loved that movie. Still have a VHS copy.

ArcadeDragon

The Judgment: "We ask you this one question, Kalgkur." *produces overly effeminate yinglet* "What is the exact cuteness rating of Lopin, to the nearest adoriger, using the standard Kawaii Thorem?"

Vodyanoi Serpens' House of Magical Wonders

They are such a race of softies. One wonders what society-wide experiences resulted in them forsaking their nature as carnivorous ambush predators that could explode anything they touched.

BiasMushroom721

Yeah, the Baxxids were probably pretty terrifying when they had a looser set of morals

Matthew Vandiver

The worst punishment some of us can ever receive is living with the knowledge that we have done something horrendous without the intent to do so.

MysteryCryptid

Poor guy. He's probably beating himself up over it

Thorin N. Tatge

Oh dear--the Judgement could kill him? I hope this Judgement is something thoughtful and not, like, the way the light shines through a certain crystal in a certain rock at a certain time of day. I still think the kid just needs a few months out of sight working in the mines, plus a public spin doctor willing to work with the Trademaster.

Thorin N. Tatge

Also... has anyone actually talked to Kalgkur about this yet? If he reports it was an accident and that he was nervous about guard duty, and if they EXECUTE him... wow, I feel sorry for the next baxxid youth nervous about guard duty.

Avi Brandier

The response being the determining factor seems appropriate for a species whose society seems to have canonized a separation of a person's instincts and other animalistic traits from the higher, rational soul

"A visceral reminder of the shameful beasts we once were, and whose bodies we still inhabit" 🔥🔥🔥✍️

Kal did take a life. Accidental as it was it was still a murder. The humans thought having a baxxid as a guard would be a deterrent…it was not. The thief stole merchandise and tried to flee. Kal attempted to stop him without serious injury but his force was too strong for even him to control. There were many mistakes to this point….some on the baxxid side and some on the human side. The thief’s death was unfortunate but did hopefully send a message to others to stop stealing at least so openly. What comes down now to the Judgment….A life for a life….a Soul for a Soul?

Greater sentience, and contact with other sentient races. We know there exists a feral variant of Yinglets, maybe the same or a similar natural influence elevated them to sentience. It might not have been natural either, there were implications that the humans are not native to this world, whether they arrived in starships or through magical portals, their ancestors could have tried to "tame" this world.

Theres a lot of blame to go around , like who thought it was a good idea to put untrained baxxid as an guard for a punishment?

Richard Weir

Strictly speaking, "Murder" in most RL jurisdictions is the deliberate, intentional causing of loss of life. Accidents happen that cause death - the driver who neglects to check his tyres, has a blowout on a fast road, loses control and hits another car killing the driver isn't a murderer, no matter how grief-stricken and angry the bereaved are. Yes, the driver is guilty of negligence, but he and all those affected are the victims of bad luck. Yes, Kal did take a life. But his thoughts during the incident made it quite obvious that there was no intent to kill. He is guilty of a loss of self-control that started his stabbing reflex, but he desperately wanted to stop the movement, and that takes his actions down a notch from murder to culpable homicide/manslaughter depending on local legal jargon.

"There is no such thing as an overly effeminate yinglet!"

Vicroc4

Surprisingly civil for a medieval-level society.

Val Salia, particularly under Viracroix, seems to hold itself to a higher standard than the other nations, who were referred to as more warlike, if not outright barbaric.

Vicroc4

This is true. It's still an unusual thing.

valsalia

Many parts of them are hard, especially the headplates

valsalia

Oh hey I remember that one! The villain had one of the most unsettling ends I've seen in an animated movie

valsalia

Yeah that is gonna have to be a *ridiculously* effeminate ying

valsalia

They are soft in places but mostly bony

valsalia

"The concept of morality is an incomprehensible alien thing" definitely qualifies as "looser!"

valsalia

The worst punishment some others can receive is having a pair of headphones surgically attached to their heads that play Baby Shark nonstop for the rest of their lives

valsalia

Better than beating up someone else over it!

valsalia

It's a bit more important for what's basically a living weapon to have lots of reasoning and self-control than for a human

valsalia

Things will definitely work in SOME direction, not necessarily out

valsalia

My drawing glove is made of asbestos because my hands keep getting engulfed in the flames

valsalia

It's basically a complicated game of dodgeball

Vet

Agreed. It comes down to training like anyone in law enforcement knows. Untrained make bad decisions. It all comes down to intent which was to stop not kill….but a death did happen. Kal is the one I’m concerned about….he will take this very hard.

Vet

It’s all about intent.
