Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

JoshG

This is awesome! I think you guys will love the other movies. Can’t wait for those!

Christopher Larimer

I'm about to cry manly tears of sheer joy. Can't wait to go on this journey with you two.

Jen Barnes

Can't wait! Daniel is 100% going to be eating his words about it not being exciting and cool. I'm guessing by the 3rd movie at the latest.

Future Boy

This is one of the funniest intros you've ever done. Over 5 minutes of Daniel trying to remember dozens of things whilst apparently recovering from a severe bout of amnesia, with Sam sitting beside him, puzzled, but respectfully quiet! lol I've always wanted to finally get to this series, so thanks for giving me the excuse. Looking forward to watching the entire series with you!

QuiGon_Jim

I remember going to see this in the Cinema with my English class when it came out.. didn't really like it. Then I tried again and gave up on the 3rd/4th? film.. so i think I'll give the series 1 last go with you folk!

Steve Mercier

Not too crazy about the first two movies. Unbelievably spectacular cast, and the child actors definitely shine; I'm just not a big fan of the director, Chris Columbus. But the third movie: holy shit, the third movie. And it remains pretty damn good from there on out. So I'll wait until then. Good times.

Backlog Andy M.

I was the star wars generation. Orginal trilogy. So by the the time Harry Potter came out it went over my head!

Forrest

Surprised you gave up on the 3rd film potentially. The 3rd film really takes the franchise to a new level and stays great from there on out. It might just not be for you in general if the 3rd one didn't hook you.

Ken Veader

I've never seen this series so I'm taking the journey fresh with you guys

Forrest

Really looking forward to this journey. Like you two, very much my generation as they were essentially the same age as me as I grew up. My grandmother was a fan of the books and so her and I would go to the movies for each new film. Read the books myself in about the span of a week when I was in Middle school, right in the middle of the movie franchise. First two films are alright and kind of build the world and the characters, but the third really steps it up and takes a different tone, which really tends to pull people in.

Shehab Dawoud

Glad you liked it! Like I said in the other post, they get darker already from the next movie on, so you got a lot to look forward to! You did well to notice that the focus during the Quidditch was also on Quirrel, not just Snape. I definitely didn't notice that when I was younger. Also in the pub when Harry meets him for the first time, he refuses to shake his hand. That's a difficult one to remember first time. Just to clarify something about the game of Quidditch: When you catch the snitch, you don't necessarily win the game. The game just ends, and your team receives 150 points. But if the other team is up 160-0, you still lose the game even if you catch it. At the end of the season, all the accumulated points are added up to decide the winner. Games can go on for hours or even days. I think it's mentioned in the book that the longest match ever took 3 months! One thing is sure, you’re gonna get hella views on YT the next few months😁

Aaron Barlow

No way you guys haven't seen Harry Potter lol

David Wilkins

Haven’t watched it yet, but I’m glad you’re starting this journey.

Birdie Num Num

I guess the majority here are young millennials(which I kind of figured based on polls over the years). Starting an 8 film series, wow. Hope they get spread out like Rocky was. Just please don't start Fast & Furious next:) Can't believe HBO is actually doing a reboot series of Harry Potter.

QuiGon_Jim

So I looked it up based on what i remember.. it was the 4th film that I turned off and haven't gone back to! As I said, I'll give it one more go, no harm in that.

Marcus Cato

Hagrid: You're a wizard, Harry. Harry: You're a hairy wizard, Hagrid.

PIG

I remember taking my little brother and sister to this movie when it premiered. My wife, my girlfriend back then, and I were pleasantly surprised in how great it was. John Williams score still haunts us to this day. Universal’s recreation of its setting is the best theme park in my life, just incredible. I look forward to your thoughts, guys!

PIG

I’m a Trek fan mostly but even I can’t deny how spectacular Star Wars in 1976 must have been. Nothing can possibly be comparable to my mind. What an experience. Did you see the New Hope in ‘76?

Cliff Adams

My youngest daughter was 11 when the first HP movie was released. She always was a reader, and read the books as they were published... and by the third one, I was reading them all, too, as each was published. This film was released after The Goblet of Fire was published, so all the book fans knew the story. Many of us felt like the film would disappoint us. The trailer was released, which included the scene where the first years enter the dining hall. We became believers. The film looked like the scenes we saw in our heads (based on the book illustrations). The characters were similar to who we knew.

Roy Wright

Never seen any of these so will watch now

AdrianF

Love the movies, have watched prob dozens of times. I can't help but feel that the new series will be let down but fingers crossed. My son grew up with the books, then these, and that got me into them as well.

Backlog Andy M.

Well no one saw a new hope in 1976. Because it came out May 1977. But no I saw the re-release in 1981 at the cinema. Only difference was it said episode 4 in thd opening crawl.

Tyler Foster

I'm going to guess one per month. They have two polls, one spin winner, and one open spot. But that's just a guess.

Ellie Williams

During this stretch (late 90s - early 00s), along with Harry Potter, a lot of very famous franchises were started. I think it's one of the reasons the Star Wars prequels were criticized because its competitors were so good. Lord of the Rings Star Wars Prequels The Matrix Pirates of the Caribbean X-Men Even Austin Powers lol

Shehab Dawoud

I very much doubt that they'll take 8 months to finish them. It'll be easier if their schedule becomes easier and they'll do 2 movies a week again, then they could finish them within 2 months. But if they stay at 1 movie a week, it'll probably be every 14 days. I remember when they started The Sopranos, they said that they would spread it out, and they then ended up watching it without stopping. I see something similar here.

ElmSt Reactions

Ah the good old sorcerers stone 🤣🤣

AdrianF

Hogwarts Legacy is really good, even better if you love the source material.

Florian Meier

I'm 39 and never watched these franchises ... Never interested in Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings ... My wife forced me three years Ago to watch all Harry Potter and i really liked it ;) So not my favorite Franchise like Dirty Harry or Lethal Weapon but i really like it in these Days :) Alan Rickman is great as Snape, you must Watch "Robin Hood" from 1991 with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman ... Alan Rickman is great in this

Aaron Barlow

"The mirror of Erised" The reflection of 'Erised' or the word backwards is 'Desire'.

Tyler Foster

I suppose "BCS" is ending. Maybe they'll do two movies a week and make one of them Potter before starting a new show.

AdrianF

Rickman in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is utterly fantastic - it's absolutely a must-watch for that reason (and the rest of the movie ain't too bad either, apart from Christian Slater's complete inability to nail a British (or at least, non-American) accent).

David Wilkins

I’m hard on movies that linger into many sequels or parts, but they did a great job of building a universe unto itself. That’s major for me, even when the story is lacking. But that’s obviously not the case here. What kid wouldn’t want to go to Hogwarts?

Matthew Maxon

i find it hard to believe that youve never seen this....but glad to see you watching them. im an adult harry potter fan. i loved the books and watched the movies when they came out. i read the books on deployments and saw the movies too. there is much in the books thats not covered in the movies due to time and pacing. many have said about Erised being Desire backwards. The Weasley boys helped Harry onto the train and Ginny, who is Ron's younger sister and the youngest of the Weasley kids (7th and only daughter) has a huge crush on Harry in the books. Alan Rickman was the ONLY person who knew the arc and thats why he stayed. He was going to quit and author talked him out of it with the information she gave him. there is purpose for everything going on. thats as far as im willing to go here in this movie. youve covered most of it in your breakdown and the other comments. I love watching people get the surprises.

Matthew Maxon

"Im holding a pair of socks." Socks are ALWAYS good!!!

Aaron Barlow

Me too, I thought EVERYONE had seen these. Some channels do fake 'first time' reactions to incredibly well known films in order to get views. I'm sure TBR and Sam don't do this but if I didn't know them as authentic types I would assume it.

David W.

It all goes downhill once Chris Columbus left.

David W.

Dear OP, I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you read the books 3-7 before you watch the movies.

David W.

After twenty years of rumination, I have never been firmer in my belief that it was Chris Columbus who reined in the worst of screenwriter Steve Kloves's utter bs contempt for what really mattered in the books, which is why the first two films are so truly watchable and it all goes to seed starting with PoA. And inb4 anyone tells me "But Alfonso Cuaron is such a TALENTED director artist!", this only makes their so called choices and emphasis's all the more baffling — the same problem as Rian Johnston did with Star Wars: seemingly NONE of the care and prudence put into a massive IP adaptation that he would give for a standalone story like "Roma" or "Knives Out", no no, he would much prefer to step into the middle of a WIP series, spray artistic diarrhea all over the lore, and leave the mess for others to clean up.

David W.

The real problem with Quidditch is that each score is minimum 10 points. Would make more sane sense to have each quaffle goal be worth 1 point, and then the snitch be worth 15.

David W.

The third movie is holy shit… not in the same direction as you seem to imply. I would take Columbus's "boring ass" direction for 24 hours than watch another five minutes of Cuaron's blowhard plot-castrating "vision". Try to recap the PoA plot on the movie,s content alone, with none of that preconceived book knowledge that is SO OFTEN mistaken for being in the movie, to help you. There is a reason why IPs LotR and Star Wars have plot-heavy, character-centric fanvid remixes out the wazoo (look at channels such as SWFT), and HP not so much. Fans would try to do it only to realize that the actual plot content is anemic as F.

David W.

No it's not. Try recapping the plot with what is actually in the movie. Oh wait, you barely can. Because fits the "nice car, no engine" diss that Stephen King gave to The Shining even better than that movie did.

Steve Mercier

Cool...I still love the third movie, so I guess that makes me a doodoo-head. You win!

QuiGon_Jim

I'll do my best but don't think that fits with what we're talking about.

Marcus Cato

Personally I thought 3 was the best book and the best movie, for reasons outside of being faithful to the lore, but I certainly agree with you that there are issues with films 4 through 7/8. There is just too much in the books to fit even into an 8 movie franchise. I think a series has a better chance, but I think it's going to be weak for all kinds of other reasons unrelated to the lore of the books

Martin7777

He was a LOTR snob, he admits it early on. A lot of them thought they were too cool for Harry Potter. Just wait. He will be wearing is Ravenclaw scarf many years after he's forgotten about FROBO

Martin7777

For anyone who hates snakes, I have copies of all these movies with the snakes censored

Martin7777

I'm also hesitant when it comes to ongoing sequels and stories that are just dragging out to keep people employed. I like that the HP story was planned to the end before the first book was release.

Matthew Maxon

Nah. I bet hes a Slytherin and Sam is a Gryffindor.

Matthew Maxon

You two NEED to be sorted on the Wizarding World site and show it here in a Patron Post!!! I call, TBR is a Slytherin and Sam is a Gryffindor.

Marcus Cato

TBR's usually the one calling for someone to get wrecked, so he definitely fits right in with Slytherin!

Martin7777

Hilariously bad take unless you're under 10

Aaron Barlow

Get to the next ones as soon as possible.

Joe J

Hi Sam, when is the drawing for the June PAF entries? I seem to miss the notifications. Thanks.

TBR Schmitt

We just filmed it! Daniel's going to edit tonight after we're done filming and it should be up either late tonight or tomorrow! -Sam

Alex

Yes! Thank you for doing this. Now I can watch Harry Potter with someone else and it might be more interesting .. You guys have made me love movies I previously didn't like. Though I'm currently on a 30 day dopamine detox challenge which consists of among other things, no entertainment for 30 days. I just came to vote in the p0lls today :)

Aaron Barlow

Claim TBR is a Hufflepuff and watch him rage. The ultimate insult lol. Not brave and talented enough to be Gryffindor, not evil and talented enough to be Slytherin. Not smart enough to be Ravenclaw. The loser club.

Aaron Barlow

Sounds like Japanese porn where all the snakes and clams are pixelated.

Alexander Ocean

Just subbed for these reactions! Can't fucking wait till you get to the third!

Marcus Cato

Just curious, are you doing one of those digital minimalism challenges? Obviously, don't feel you need to answer if that's too nosy.

Alex

Something like that. The guy that's running the challenge I'm doing actually mentioned Digital Minimalism and I started reading it and it sounds exactly like what I'm doing now. It's pretty hard. I was ready to quit on day 5. lol. But it's interesting because I have so much more time now, and I set up a schedule so I'm much more productive now. I have myself set up to watch one episode of one of my favorite shows per night (when the challenge is over). I'm not sure your age but we're really spoiled today. Back in the day you had to wait a week for episodes and you had to watch a show at exactly the time it came on. Thinking back to that before binging it was very easy to watch shows and still be productive.

Marcus Cato

I think I read that book at some point. I have had to make a lot of adjustments to curb my natural tendency to waste time, but it's been worth it.

penoyer79

i mean it took me 15 years to watch these films and i was in my 20s when they came out. and i was a big movie goer too. just wasn't something that interested me. but i did finally get around to it and i do like the movies. though i prefer the first 4 over the last 3.

Aaron Barlow

Anything but Hufflepuff right? They're the left over losers not brave or talented enough to be in Gryffindor, not ruthless and talented enough to be in Slytherin, not smart enough to be in Ravenclaw lol.

Aaron Barlow

I always knew socks were connected to the wizarding world the way one always disappears.

Martin7777

I see, you're just a bad person.

Shaun2342!

Any idea when youtube cut will be up? I know copyright nazis love intercepting some Harry Potter reacts.

TBR Schmitt

We're looking to start posting them in September! We wanted to get them all filmed before so we can post them relatively quickly after each other! -Sam

Musashi

How can one watch Harry Potter in the summer

darkchaos125

You'll love Hogwarts Legacy game on the main consoles! Esp after watching the movies and/or reading the books. Despite the dursleys mistreating harry, the actors for the uncle/aunt were very nice to Daniel Radcliffe.
