Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Paul Cox

Not enough time to do a full watchalong for this right now, but I did check the intro and outro :) Your next Clooney stop should definitely be Out of Sight from 1998. It was kind of a warm-up for the Oceans films he and Soderbergh would make together. Low key one of the sexiest films of the current era—everyone looks the hottest they've ever looked in Out of Sight. Even Luis Guzman could get it lol I really hope Rushmore is your next Wes Anderson reaction. It came between Bottle Rocket (his first feature) and The Royal Tenenbaums (his first widely acclaimed feature). It's just a tidy little comedy that isn't as stylized as all the later work.

It's a fun movie. You need to try Isle of Dogs next

My favorite animated film. Is this your first animated movie reaction? I just can't imagine the patience required to do stop motion animation. They shot at 12 frames per second 88 minutes = 5280 seconds 5280 x 12 = 63,360 shots! Holy swearing cuss!

Seconding the recommendation for Out of Sight, which is not only everything Paul says, but it's also based on a book by the same author as Jackie Brown, Elmore Leonard. Other notable Clooney films include Michael Clayton (2007), Gravity (2013), The American (2010), and Three Kings (1999). He also has a new movie coming out this year called Jay Kelly, from director Noah Baumbach, that looks very promising. One fun thing about the making of this movie: the dialogue wasn't actually recorded in a studio. Instead, the cast was brought to the Dahl estate where he wrote the book, and the dialogue was recorded in environments that more accurately mimicked the ones that would be used in those scenes in the film. So when Mr. and Mrs. Fox are walking outside at the beginning, for example, they went out into the hills around the estate and recorded Clooney and Streep walking around. It is very hard for me to pick an Anderson for you to watch next, because they're all great and I love almost all of them for different reasons. However, I would probably go with The French Dispatch, if only because it's the one that reminds me most of Grand Budapest.

Isle of Dogs is terrific (I like it even better than Fantastic Mr. Fox), you should absolutely include it in your Wes Anderson lineup. Out of Sight is one of the best George Clooney films.

I'm a Big Willem Dafoe Fan ... I would recommend "Mississippi Burning" with a Great Gene Hackman in it !! A Classic !! Also "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Clear and Present Danger" ... For George Clooney "Out of Sight" and "One Fine Day" ... For more Wes Anderson "Moonrise Kingdom"

My favorite George Clooney performance to date is in The Descendants (2011). It would make for a great reaction if you haven’t already seen it.

Great one! I really enjoyed watching this one again with you guys. Stop-motion is such a rarefied artform that I first had reservations when hearing that Anderson was going to make one, but my reservations were completely unfounded. Isle of Dogs is also excellent. It’s set in Japan, and feels very different, but it’s also outstanding. It still has a very Anderson vibe. Hopefully you’ll get around to it. So far as Clooney suggestions, he has a few that are wonderful, but as is so often the case, the best examples are unlikely to win a poll, even if it’s just a Clooney poll. Others have mentioned Out of Sight, and Michael Clayton, and I heartily agree with both.

I think it would have been best to start with "Rushmore" and move forward from there, but the second best time to watch Rushmore would be next.

Hope you enjoy it when you have time to watch the full length! OMG your Guzman comment made me giggle! Love it and definitely excited for more Clooney and Wes Andersen films! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh wait, maybe?! Is this our first animated on the channel?! How fun! That's incredible! I can't believe that either. Stop Motion is on another level -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh same author as Jackie Brown?! YES! We have seen Gravity already! With Sandra Bullock, right? Um I absolutely LOVE that fun fact about the recording! I'm sure that's what made it feel that much more natural. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you for the recommendations, Florian! -Sam

I love that it sounds like every Wes Andersen film is somehow different but similar! Makes for so much fun for us to make it through his work! -Sam

Tyler Foster

Yes, with Sandra Bullock. Love that movie.

This is my favourite Anderson film, it's so funny and the use of stop animation actually adds to this films comedy, glad you guys enjoyed this. I find Andersons film a bit hit and miss, some are so boring to me that I've actually fallen asleep in the cinema with his recent films. For more animation I recommend Coraline, wreck it Ralf, 9 and a part animation film called Alitta battle Angel,i know you would enjoy all of them.

Wonderful reaction for such a beautiful movie! I recommend checking out some of the behind the scenes footage. Stop-motion is a dying art, but there are still a few production studios keeping it alive wonderfully. I think the studio that made Fantastic Mr Fox with Wes unfortunately went under, but some of the staff went on to work for LAIKA (Paranorman, Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings). If you want to continue with some animated movies, I'd recommend Studio Ghibli. Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Up on Poppy Hill etc. Also Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and obviously Pixar movies are great (but I imagine you've probably seen several of them). Soul was a recent stand-out. For George Clooney movies, I recommend Up in the Air (2009). Edit: Oh, and The Darjeeling Limited would be my pick for the next Anderson movie to watch!

Tyler Foster

Although more and more channels are risking it, I would still treat Studio Ghibli with an air of caution. Early on in the reaction era, they did three strikes on a channel over one video, causing the channel and all of its videos to be deleted, forcing the reactor to start over from scratch. For years, reactors would only do Ghibli as an exclusive, but in the last year or so, channels have returned to Ghibli and seemingly have been okay...but it's a big risk.

Tyler Foster

Really, they should just start from the beginning. I think Bottle Rocket is as important as any other Anderson.
