Aidan

The first thing I see when I open the live footage is the sight of a swarm of a couple hundred blightlings rushing out of the portal that makes up the dungeon’s entrance into a thin forest with few trees. One that is literally right next to a System City.

Oh, that’s actually a pretty good placement.

The blightlings themselves are only level forty. But the average level of the tigerkin in this System City seems to be around thirty-five to thirty-seven or so.  Which means all of the blightlings are higher level.

On top of that, they’re being led by the five elite void golems that are surprisingly still alive.

I guess the tigerkin haven’t figured out how to kill them yet?

Either that or they’re just too weak to do it.

I sit back and watch as the blightlings fly through the air out of the portal and straight at the city. Only to frown slightly when I notice them actually struggling to bite or scratch the tigerkin. Making them unable to spread the blight.

Hmm. These tigerkin are all wearing thick plates of armor that don’t look particularly well crafted. To the point of practically just being slabs of metal stuck on them for protection.

That can’t be practical at all…

A rush job to deal with the blight, perhaps?

Probably.

Whatever it is, it’s working. Which is annoying.

The blight, from what I saw in the recordings, is a very powerful way to deal with their enemies. And it’s one of the blightlings most powerful methods of attacks.

Sure, these blightlings are all still physically stronger and are ramming into the tigerkin. But all that’s doing is bruising them and breaking bones here and there.

At this rate, I have my doubts that I’ll be able to destroy the System City in time for that achievement.

With that in mind, I open the Victory Points Shop again and immediately purchase the 1 Hour Monster Enhancement. Following which I get a pop-up asking if I would like to use it now.

I confirm that I would, following which an Achievement suddenly rings out, startling me.

◊Cluster-Wide Achievement◊

User Aidan Vale has become the first user in the Gaia Cluster to activate a Monster Enhancement boost. Therefore, he will receive a special Booster Title and an Epic Rarity Loot Box for their Cluster-Wide Achievement.

◊Cluster-Wide Achievement◊

I stare blankly at the achievement for a moment before finding a purple loot box appearing in front of me. And, after I snap out of my stupor, I go ahead and check out the new Title I received.

[Booster – As the first user to boost your monsters in the Gaia Cluster, you have proven your strong desire to wage war. Holding this Title grants you an additional 10% time length to all boosts you obtain.]

Huh.

Wait, so does that mean my 1 Hour Monster Enhancement boost will now last for an hour and six minutes?

Nice.

I focus on the live footage of the Assault again to find the blightlings finally breaking through the armor on the tigerkin. Thereby infecting them with the blight.

From what I’ve learned about this ‘blight’ while watching the recordings in the dungeon, it’s kind of like the zombie virus in movies. When someone is infected with the blight, it spreads through their body, turning them into a blighted while also erasing their mind. Either that or it just dumbs down their intelligence enough that they can’t think or speak and are forced to act on instinct.

An instinct that is to spread the blight.

The blighted attack anything that isn’t blighted.

Honestly, I regretted not giving any of my monsters in this Assault some of my skills, but now I don’t. The reason I didn’t give any of them my skills is because I didn’t think it was necessary.

Seraphyne told me that a boss given by a Galaxy-Wide Achievement is going to be far stronger than any regular boss could hope to be. So I assumed I would easily be the first to destroy a System City with its help.

I ended up getting overconfident.

It seems to be working out in the end, though. All thanks to the monster enhancement.

The voidlings all rush into the city while spreading the blight everywhere they go. Most of them don’t attack tigerkin who have already been afflicted with the blight and just focus on spreading the blight. Thereby increasing my force’s numbers.

On top of that, tigerkin who were already blighted inside of the dungeon and thereby joined my forces begin to lumber out of the dungeon portal with the blighted broodmother following behind them accompanied by more blightlings. And when the broodmother gets close to the System City Walls, she suddenly begins to vibrate her wings faster and faster before suddenly charging at the walls.

My eyes widen slightly at the sight of her straight up tearing the walls down with a single charge and continuing on through the System City. Carving a bloody path as she goes.

Meanwhile the blighted and blightlings behind her rush into the System City to attack and spread more blight.

But the blighted broodmother doesn’t pay any attention to the tigerkin in the city.

No. She immediately rushes through to a large building that has a label floating above it.

◊ System City Hall of Tiger Hall ◊

So boss monsters rush straight to the System City Hall? That makes sense. Considering that a System City is destroyed when its System City Hall is destroyed.

Or, rather, three minutes after the System City Hall is destroyed. As long as the City Lord doesn’t return to the City Hall and spend a certain number of Victory Points to restore it.

Anyway, I anxiously watch my boss monster attack their System City Hall. Feeling almost like I’m watching a game despite the actual details about what’s happening.

Is it because they’re not human? Or is it a change from becoming a Void Crowne?

The reason why I don’t feel much of anything watching them getting killed by my monsters.

I’m not sure.

Either way, it doesn’t take long for the boss to charge into the System City Hall. Crashing down the walls before going wild and tearing the entire building down.

A System Message appears in my vision.

◊ The System City known as Tiger Hall has lost its System City Hall to your Assault. If the City Lord of Tiger Hall does not restore their System City Hall again within three minutes, the System City known as Tiger Hall will fall. ◊

Then a countdown appears in the corner of the live footage. One starting at three minutes.

Come on…

I grit my teeth as I anxiously watch the countdown drop. Only to feel surprised when it is just about to hit two minutes and suddenly stops before the other buildings in the System City begin to crumble and a System Message appears in my vision.

◊ The City Lord of Tiger Hall has died, therefore there is no one capable of restoring the System City Hall. ◊

◊ The System City known as Tiger Hall has fallen to your Assault. As a result, you have been rewarded 10,000 Victory Points. ◊

◊ A City Lord has fallen to your Assault. As a result, you have been rewarded 1,000 Victory Points. ◊

◊ As a result of the current event ‘First Multiversal War’, you have been rewarded 11,000 Event Points. ◊

I can’t help but pump my fist softly while quietly exclaiming, “Yes!”

Then the Achievement arrives.

◊Galaxy-Wide Achievement◊

Void Crowne Aidan Vale has become the first user in the Aqua Galaxy to destroy a System City and its City Lord during an Assault. Therefore, he will receive a special Assault Lord Title, unlock a Legendary System Building of his choosing, and unlock a new Elite Monster for their Galaxy-Wide Achievement.

◊Galaxy-Wide Achievement◊

I quickly open my System menus to look at the new Title.

[Assault Lord – As the first user to destroy both a System City and its City Lord, you are the pride of your planet and have proven yourself the pioneering Assault Lord of the Aqua Galaxy. Holding this Title grants you an additional 10% to all future Victory Points earned.]

Oh? That’s a pretty good Title.

I can’t help but smile now that I’ve achieved my goal. But the Assault doesn’t end there. Not when my boss monster and its forces are still alive and well. Albeit with the number of blightlings having shrunken down to less than half of their previous number.

Before I can focus on my monsters again, though, a new wave of System Messages appear in my vision.

And they hold a rather unexpected new feature announced within them.
