A Cliff on Chrono IslandYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 15

The current Chrono watches patiently through a floating pool of time mana showing Nathan’s current meetings with the greatest nations on the planet. Not expressing even a hint of interest in those nations’ representatives in the process.

His eyes never leave his future Successor.

“Ssssssoon,” the enormous serpent speaks, its head sticking out of the water near him. And the Chrono nods his head in agreement with its words.

“He has reached Class S and will begin his search for the island after these three events conclude,” the Chrono declares, having already looked at the future just enough to know this as fact. “His lessons will then begin until he can claim time mana for himself.”

Then I will finally be able to rest.

The Chrono doesn’t speak these final words out loud, but the look in the serpent’s eyes shows that it understands perfectly how the Chrono feels on the matter.

Similar to death affinity magicians, time affinity magicians are incapable of dying once they reach a certain Class.

However, while the death mana in a death affinity magician simply keeps them from dying even if they are theoretically dead and can be classified as undead, the time mana in a time affinity magician’s body simply keeps their age locked in time at the age their body merges with the time mana within to a certain degree. Never allowing them to die of natural causes. And in some cases, never allowing them to die.

It isn’t to the same degree as the time and space mana in the Undying Magician’s body, since the time mana doesn’t have the ability to instantly make wounded or lost parts cross through space to reattach, nor does it have the overwhelming time reversion that acts on his body from the mutation of time and space merging. Not at the early days of S Class for a time magician, at least. But it is still enough to keep time magicians from dying of unnatural causes.

And, when a time magician is strong enough, it is enough to keep them from dying entirely unless they are killed by another time magician.

The stronger a magician is, the more their body is affected by their affinity.

It’s a simple law of magic.

And the current Chrono is far too powerful to die without the outside assistance of another time affinity magician.

“I’m happy for you,” the serpent eventually declares while turning its gaze away from the Chrono.

Of course, the Chrono himself knows that the serpent is both serious and lying at the same time.

He and the serpent have grown close over the years, and the serpent no doubt doesn’t want its friend to die. But, at the same time, the serpent knows full well that the Chrono wishes to die.

Still…

“I feel sorry for the boy,” the Chrono says, his eyes narrowing slightly at the Undying Magician. “He will never find rest. It is simply impossible for him.”

The serpent doesn’t say anything for several seconds before eventually stating, “He will have me and that phoenix to keep company with.”

Chrono feels the corner of his lips inching ever so slightly upwards after hearing the serpent’s words. Because he knows full well that the serpent must be secretly eager for the idea of two permanent companions for it to spend its endless years with.

A small part of Chrono almost makes him reach out to pat the enormous serpent on the head despite their size difference, but he holds himself back and lets the serpent continue putting up its act. Then he turns to look deeper into the island, at the large cavern located on the island’s center.

The very place where the trials start, and the seals are located.

Many, many different seals. All placed to seal something within them.

And, along with them, the place where the Chrono’s responsibility lies.

Where the entire existence of the Chrono Island serves its purpose.

Soon. Everything will begin soon.

He turns his gaze back towards the pool of time mana once more.
