Aria
“Well…” Shirogane mutters with more than a little disbelief in his voice and gaze. “This is certainly one way to deal with a criminal organization…”
I grin, feeling a little smug at his response as he, Little Blue, and I all stand at the top of a large cliff-like rock looking out over a vast encampment. One that is currently being attacked by an endless army of Death Spirits.
All of the criminals in the camp are completely panicking due to the little invasion, and thanks to my near infinite amount of death energy that I’ve stocked up over the centuries, I just replace any Death Spirits that are defeated and dissipated. Literally keeping the army endless.
After a while I pull out a lawn chair and lie down with a yawn. Since the criminals are all being taken care of already.
Or, at least, the criminals that aren’t strong enough.
There are still a couple criminals amongst this batch that can fight back. Ones that are at least level three or four thousand.
Not that it matters in the end. The rest of them will die or be captured by the Death Spirits. Leaving the leaders to me once the Death Spirits are done.
I haven’t had a relatively serious battle in a while, after all.
My terminal suddenly buzzes, notifying me of a call. So I accept it to find the delegate we spoke with about this job and the reward on the other end of the call.
The man looks confused when he sees me lying on a lawn chair, but he just disregards it a moment later and says, “Hello, Your Highness. We have received word that a large army of what looks like undead has appeared near your first targets and is besieging the targets in question right now. Please be carefu-”
His words cut off when he sees a Death Spirit walking up to hand me a glass of wine.
“They’re not undead,” I tell him with a slight frown. “They’re Death Spirits.”
It’s not often I have to explain that to people. Normally most people already know what Death Spirits look like.
Is it because of their seclusion?
And, considering the resources and size of this planet, it actually isn’t that surprising that a Greater Death Spirit has never been summoned here.
No one would want to ruin the resources here, which an enraged Greater Death Spirit would wipe out along with the planet.
I take a sip of my wine.
Ah, I can’t wait for the day that I’ll be able to summon Greater or even Grand Death Spirits.
It’ll be great.
“I understand,” the guy says with a face that does not look like he understands anything. “How long do you estimate this first operation taking?”
I take another sip of wine before glancing out at the encampment that is gradually being whittled down to just a few enemies remaining. Then I answer, “Probably another half an hour at most.”
The guy looks like he understands even less now as he stares blankly at me through the camera, only for him to nod his head and state, “I see. Then I will await news of your success.”
And just like that, the call ends, leaving me taking another sip of my wine as Little Blue struggles to hold back her laughter.
Even Shirogane turns his head and covers his mouth and the obvious smile stretching across it.
I’m not quite sure why they’re laughing so much just because someone doesn’t understand my powers, but whatever. I ignore the two idiots as I wait for the remaining criminals to gradually be defeated until only the two that are too strong for the Death Spirits to take down are left standing. At which point I climb to my feet and stretch a little despite not needing to.
Stretching has just kind of become a habit. And it feels nice even if it’s pointless.
Anyway, after stretching, I walk over to the edge of this cliff-like rock and take a step further to fall down to the ground below. Then I continue walking towards the badly damaged outpost and the two men fighting my army of Death Spirits right outside of it. With them practically mowing down the army by the thousands. Even if said thousands all reappear as if nothing happened.
The official said that these two should be the leader and vice-leader of this organization. Both of whom are at least level three thousand, with the leader being a little over level four thousand.
That should be enough of a level gap for me to have difficulty.
Without any hesitation, I draw my sword before coating it in an immense amount of death energy alongside my very body. All to enhance my strength and the strength of the sword.
My actions – and more importantly, the immense amount of death energy building up here – attract the attention of the two criminals who are facing my Death Spirits. And the moment they no doubt see the lower number above my head that happens to be pitch black, they both look confused and slightly wary.
Ah, I haven’t faced this reaction in a very long time.
It’s almost refreshing.
Without any hesitation, I sprint forward at an incredible speed while swinging my sword downwards to crash into the vice leader. And since he both wasn’t expecting my attack, and was busy dealing with a wave of Death Spirits, he doesn’t quite manage to dodge. Leaving my blade, which is coated in black flames, slicing a large gash across his shoulder.
The man grunts in pain but quickly turns and swipes his own axe straight into my side. But, while it does dig into me a bit, the blade is slowed down enough by the immense amount of death energy both in my body and drawn from the Plane of Death itself that it doesn’t go further than a couple inches. And I take advantage of his blade being momentarily stuck to cut him again while burning him with soul flames.
Eventually he manages to knock me away with a roar of pain and anger. But even that anger vanishes when I sense him trying to heal the wounds I dealt him, only for them to fail to heal.
The anger is simply replaced by shock and horror.
His gaze turns towards me before he shouts at his leader, “Don’t let ‘er blade strike ya! There’s somethin’ wrong with tha wounds tha bitch dealt!”
Well that’s rude.
Anyway, this guy has a large gash at least an inch deep in his shoulder, and another on his hip. Not to mention the minor damage to his soul and the very minor burns on the rest of his body. So he’ll probably be a good bit slower now.
Of course, even with my immense amount of death energy empowering me, I’m still a few thousand levels beneath him. So my attacks can’t do a significant amount of damage.
Still. Defeating him won’t be difficult.
If he could heal, that would be a different matter. But he can’t heal.
The skill The Hand of Death keeps that from being possible without the help of Life Spirits. And Life Spirits would never come to help a bunch of criminals.
Not to mention that this guy would never get the chance to meet one.
“You fuckin’ bitch!” the leader of the criminals shouts, but I ignore him as I begin to trade blows with the vice leader. All the way until the leader breaks through my Death Spirits and swings his large great sword straight at me. Cleaving me through and splitting me in half with a wild grin forming on his face.
I, of course, ignore it and take advantage of the two letting their guard down to pull out another sword and strike at both the leader and vice leader. All while my lower half reattaches without issue to my upper half as if nothing happened.
Both of the criminals look utterly shocked as they take more wounds from me that can’t ever heal.
This battle is kind of fun. I haven’t seriously fought anyone in ages.
Nowadays most people run for the hills when they see me on the enemy’s side. And I can’t have a serious fight with most of the people I know since they’re too high in level.
Let’s see how long this fight takes.
