NathanYear 2853 | Month 7 | Day 2
The next couple weeks pass one after another as I continue training my swordsmanship and also continuing my experiments. All while keeping an eye on the tournament brackets.
During this time, the first couple brackets come to an end. Specifically the Class C and Class B magician brackets.
For the Class C bracket, a young fifteen year old youth who has already cleared one of the requirements to become Class B wins. Meanwhile the Class B bracket is won by a twenty year old who also happens to be a royal of a smaller nation. A princess.
And it’s getting close to the finals of the Class A bracket now. With the last match of the semi-finals currently underway.
For the first time since the tournament started, I put down my experiments and swords to watch the battle.
I narrow my eyes a little at the sight of a poison affinity magician facing off against a water affinity magician. And the sight is pretty interesting. Enough that even the audience is clearly excited watching.
The battlefield platform is surrounded by a vast, transparent barrier. One completely blocking any spells from making it through to the audience.
On the battlefield, two massive floods of liquid are clashing against each other while the two magicians themselves are using pistols and snipers to fight each other at a distance. With the two liquids being water and poison.
The clash is quite intense for Class A magicians, so I can’t help but watch.
Between the two magicians, one is a twenty-five year old woman with purple hair and eyes, while the other is a twenty-six year old man with azure colored hair and eyes. The woman is wearing simple shorts and a shirt and jacket. With the jacket being similar in style to a type of leather jacket someone would see a rock band singer wearing. And the man is wearing a flowing robe.
What’s more is that their combat skills with their guns and sniper rifles are better than my own. No doubt because they’ve been training for far longer than me, with more skilled trainers as well.
Well, and the fact that I haven’t really fought using any guns or a sniper rifle in a very long time. Even when I get into combat with weapons, I always just use my swords.
After all, I can use my vampiric strength with swords, but I can’t really use it with guns. At best I can control the guns better and more accurately.
Magicians can use barriers to block bullets, and regardless of what material is used in the bullets, the guns mostly run on mana. So the more mana is used, the stronger the force of the bullets.
Using swords with special metals that can cut through mana is just far better for me. I can use my own physical strength, I don’t have to worry about getting bullets or wasting mana, and I don’t have to replace the swords since they’re so durable.
The two Class A magicians continue flying around and even swimming around in the water and poison while shooting at each other. Sometimes with pistols and others with the sniper rifles.
As for close combat bladed weapons? The only ones they have are a couple small knives. Clearly just weapons for self defense if an opponent gets too close.
Or, at least, that’s what I assume until the poison magician brings out several hidden weapons. All of which are coated in poison.
Her blades end up striking the water magician by surprise after he let his guard down, not expecting any bladed weapons. And thanks to that, he rapidly begins to slow down from the poisons flowing through his body. Until he finally ends up losing, with his waves of water being completely wiped out by the poison before he is teleported out of the battlefield.
I narrow my eyes as I see the man’s poison vanishing instantly. Almost like he was never poisoned.
Which is technically the case, as the medallion they wear simply affects the wearer with the effects of poison as if he were actually poisoned without actually poisoning him.
This is just a tournament after all, so they can’t just let someone get incredibly poisoned in a battle. But they also can’t let them not be affected by poison as that is a legitimate method of battle, and it is a major affinity.
So they included that in the barrier’s effect.
These medallions really are interesting. They have so many different features that I really want to study one.
It’s too bad I don’t have one myself. Not one of the medallions that the other participants have, at least.
The medallion I have for my own participation isn’t as interesting as the ones the others have. Even if the ones the others have don’t work for me.
Maybe I can ask the tournament committee if they can give me one of the other medallions to experiment with…
Anyway, the finals of the Class A bracket of the tournament will be between this poison affinity magician and a dark affinity magician. Both of whom are the same age.
The other one is a royal too, unlike the poison affinity magician. The dark affinity magician.
And they’re a royal from a major nation this time, while the poison affinity magician is a talented magician from the Melcians. So the battle is going to be rather high profile. It’ll also involve politics due to how important both of them are to their respective nations.
I watch the screen for several seconds as the poison affinity magician raises both hands with a grin on her face for the audience. Then I fully return my focus to my training and experiments until the finals come around.
Once the final round starts for the Class A magicians, I can continue watching. Since it wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye on genius talents to see just how talented they really are.
While still doing sword training, of course.
