We have promised this for a long time, and we want a bit of a break from the incessant culture war content, so we are diving into the self-help world with Matthew McConaughey!

The above video will give you a taste but actually Chris downloaded the full 5 hour 'Art of Livin' event from 3 years ago, which is no longer available online but features Tony Robbins and a host of other self-help celebrities.

So saddle up because this is a doozy...

The Art of Livin' Well

Excellent advice for Livin' with meaning by actor Matthew McConaughey based on his book Green Lights.

Can't stop thinking of the pastor Glen from letterkenny

Justine

This is an intro, right? Because there’s no content here 🤨 Well, there’s accent and affectation and some good old exercises for the listener. Is that really enough for people? I have a guided meditation app I listen to that is very much like this guy, but I use it to soothe me to sleep 🥴

Stardustsparkle

Wow 😳 one word. Antipsychotics. Please take them 😅

Frances goulart

Tony Robbins meets Oral Roberts without the Jesus Juice. He should stick to acting!

Ymirsdreams

Alright, alright, alright.

Linda Sears

Another crazy Texan. We sure know how to either make them home grown (Alex Jones) or draw them in (David Koresh, Rogan, Musk, etc). Silly fact- I was at a party with a boyfriend in 1992 Austin. Richard Linklater was there doing cocaine. Nuff said.

Ben Warner

This was painful to make it through 8 minutes of! So much talk, so little information. He seems high

livintheilife

I could only stomach 6 minutes of this. How anyone could make it through *five hours* is beyond me. I had no idea that this actor was telling people how to live life, spittin’ truths like a Baptist preacher. Oy.

raymond horia

He clearly didn't have live audience and pretended like he did right?😅

livintheilife

I’ve discovered that I may be able to tolerate this in small bursts. Pace yourself. I went back and made it through another ten minutes. Good thing I did, or I would’ve missed McConaughey banging that drum. The man needs to be taken in like psychedelics: start low and go slow.

Danielle Smith

I managed to get through 1 minute. It reminds me of a 14-year-old theater kid who has prepared this monologue for an audition. I just can't believe that anybody takes themselves this seriously? Like really? Since I can't fix these people (many of the gurus) my only recourse is to laugh at them and Matt and Chris give us that opportunity. Grateful. Thanks Matt and Chris.

Monica B.

I was like I can handle this, then made it (checks video) 36 seconds. Greatly look forward to the mediated clips and the sure-to-come laughter you all will provide, though!

Mark Vaughan

I don't get it. He's banging a drum and telling people to be honest, admit things. It seems goofy but generic self-help stuff. There's not really anything to engage with here from what I can see, looking forward to seeing what the problems are.

b2b saas purveyor

he should play his bongos while doing this shtick

Rasterisk

You just gotta keep griftin’ man. G-R-I-F-T-I-N.

Sam D.

Even when I was making the rounds of personal growth styled gatherings, I never would have stomached this.

Colin

OK. I'm not watching that. I managed around ten seconds before I had to stop. However I'm familiar with McConaughey as a gurutuber. Great choice, I'm into it.

Lisel

Who else got to the recurring wet dream admission?!?!

Linda Sears

I gotta hand it to him, reading out the chat comments was a good move to create community.

Shay nolan

I do you put me through this😅

Melinda

I got 7.22 in. I know he should get a 5 for pseudo profound bullshit, but it's just so anodyne.

Nancy Hale

Ten minutes in. OMG. Evangelical preacher, football coach, improv theatre dude, men’s retreat leader.

Ymirsdreams

Why am I here? I... I... I learned that Cod change their colour to match their surroundings and they can produce sounds using their swim bladders and now I don't think I am enough!

Jimalim

Love No.6: White Lies, where he starts singing White Lines by Melle Mel.

Jonas Aklin

Kudos to Matt and/or Chris for having the strength to go through 5 hours of that self-indulgent waffle... I made it to minute 7.

john statham

Hopefully Mickey will hear the episode, rethink his ways and sign up to the sequel of one of the greatest buddy cop seasons of all time.

Emma

It reminds me of the episode of manclan about the mythopoetic men's movement. I feel he should be shirtless and playing a bongo.

Chris Clark

This is making me feel anxious. I would not invite this man into my house.

Frances goulart

Living is spelled with a “g” in the literate world where we don’t eat our peas with a knife... That was the first red flag here, y’all!

Frances goulart

5 hours of this? You could have done the Badland Ultra with less pain and barging...

Frances goulart

I made it 12 minutes... Only because I have ADD and can multitask.

Rebecca C

If I had stumbled across this on YouTube, I would have thought it was an SNL skit… sadly not.

Neely McCormick

This is like an actor doing their monologue for acting class.

CHUSSTERR

Its too cringe I couldn't watch it.

Saksaas

He’s like a mix between a mega church pastor and a motivational speaker.

Professor Matt

Literally 20 seconds in and I’m dying of cringe

Sam Hall

Reminds me of David Brent when he gets the motivational speaker gig

toby cokes

I want to do incredible acts of violence now!!

Thewizrad

I watched the whole thing. It gave me a funny feeling in my tummy and I couldn't look away... Is there something wrong with me?

pr

I can’t listen to this

Linda Sears

It was odd how the background world never changed. It was like being in a casino where the time is frozen.

Damien

This a whole lot of 12 Steppin'...

EagleHasLanded

Well, that was certainly an exercise in throwing pseudo-profound spaghetti at the wall...
