Hasan Piker is the man of the hour online, so we take some time to look at why he's in the spotlight. From his recent Cuba trip to Ukraine/Crimea takes, China apologetics, and a charming outburst at a Vietnamese refugee, is the controversy based on a few out-of-context soundbites, or are they reflective of his genuine worldview? Consider this your allotted Hasan segment until the internet finds a new obsession.

And yes, this is a previous segment from the recent Supplementary Material but given that nothing exists for streamer audiences unless it is a video on YouTube, we anticipate a joyful reaction from relevant communities on Reddit. C'est la vie!

I cannot figure out who said this guy is attractive. I suspect he did. 🤮

Everything about Husan Piker is bullshit and his stupid overpriced bougie t-shirts are proof. All the shouting about ‘union-made’ and ‘Made in USA’ is about as dubious as the global garment industry itself.

Shug

The amount of attention this twat receives is remarkable.

Michael Ball

Claim: being tall and handsome doesn't make historically illiterate and poorly thought out arguments persuasive. Discuss.

CHUSSTERR

People posting black and white photos of him wearing those glasses and those shirts are the reason why he wears those things.

Frances goulart

Someone needs to wash his mouth out with soap and water ( and pump that frat boy septic tank of a brain)… ugh ugh ugh

What's That Noise?

The bit where he reads the headline "Apple remove gay dating apps in China in compliance with government orders" and then says, "Dude, that's Apple!" kind of reminds me of a bit in the Piers Morgan/Russel Brand interview where Morgan says "Can you, if you're honest, remember whether you sexually assaulted these women all those years ago?" and Brand replies "Yes, I can be honest." Like, you pick up on the wrong part of the sentence and just run with that, and in both cases I find it extremely transparent.

I’m generally willing to give Hasan more credit (to an extent) than most people on this forum but I’m really glad you’re releasing this video because it’s a wonderful 101 primer on legitimate critiques of him that aren’t from people just as frustrating and annoying like Destiny or H3H3.

Lucy

Is it really just looks with him? I wonder why he takes off and others on the left don’t. But I don’t know how much of that is him seeking the spotlight versus getting lucky.

Julia Stein

Honestly I had seen him but only the “moderate” version of him not the other side so thanks for shining light on it.

It might help to understand that there has been an increasing gap between the views held by a majority of Democratic voters in the US (you can look up polling) and the leadership of the Democratic party. These are differences on policy toward Palestine and Israel, AI regulation, health care and more. It also concerns tone and a general lack of vigor in opposition to the ruling party. This is widespread and only becoming more so. I think you are somewhat falsely setting up a difference between "radical left" and "center left" - and though those differences exist, the more critical gap is the one between the view and feelings of the majority of Dem. voters and the leadership. I think this restiveness is a healthy corrective to trends that have weakened the Democrats markedly over time (and made the party so ineffective against MAGA), but it's making for weird discourse like the one around Piker which I see as deflective of the real conversation happening in communities- and voting booths- as Dem. voters in many areas are electing more iconoclastic outsiders than before that more reflect their view and emotional tone. Piker is like a fun house mirror where these dynamics and discussions get distorted. I hated the way he talked about that Vietnamese woman too and I'm glad you flagged it- it's so indicative of a kind of dehumanization. But speaking of using clips- I would like to see you dive more into the increasing use of clips and how that's changing how the gurus are communicating and how the messages are getting digested (or not).
