Artemis - DevLog (Patreon)

Hey everyone!

Another productive week. I sort of had my hands in everything, writing, 3D work and coding. Some of the 3D work I did was repairing MC's new home as it will be sort of the main even for this chapter. During the tour, there was a funny I did because I hated the doors that came with it but I didn't want to spend more time fixing it. By more time, I mean I had to fix a number of exterior things. You guys probably remember when I showed an example of how some published artists in the DAZ store have major scaling issues. They'll make doors ridiculously huge or the props ridiculously small. So when you've found the perfect environment and you discover that, it's pretty annoying. Anyways, MC's property wasn't in the DAZ store. It was procured from a 3D site and I had to re-model some of the exterior things like the stairs and benches. Because while everything was scaled nicely, the stairs and sofas were designed for 20 ft baddies. Anyways, if you see the tour scene again...you'll notice there's no doors lol. I kind of took advantage with the idea that Myra probably opened every door to make the tour easy to navigate. But yeah, I've been working on putting some doors in there. As well as install some of the other stuff that were not there due to "renovation". I've also been working on a mesh issue with the property. The angles for the lewd scene with Myra in CH7 were deliberate because I had another issue when transferred to Blender. There were issues with the polygons and made some random polys blacked out. I was stressed about the development time already, so I just told myself I'd look into it after release and had to use specific angles so the polys with issues weren't in the shot to move forward with development.

On the coding side, I've been working on the Empathy/Firm system. This is the core component to Artemis and the overall story and it's been something I've been refining since CH1. Trying to dial it in so it feels balanced and how it shapes the endings so it whatever happens is warranted. Balancing is something that always needs finesse. So, I'm just happy I've dialed in something that feels both rewarding and fair (still needs some tuning). I'll also be refining the Artemis App in your phone so you can better track these. And hope to implement a log of events when the Public Opinion score is shifted. We saw a glimpse of some of these in CH6 and 7. CH8 will be another testing ground as I see these play out more. With Books 3 and 4 having the system fully active (meaning we'll start seeing her Empathy/Firm scores really shaping how she handles situations).

Story side of things, the universe bible is really doing its work. Especially handling characters like Artemis, it's great for tracking certain things about her. Characters with savant syndrome often have holes or get sudden 'nerfs' for scenes or the writers simply forgot a detail. Artemis herself is a character who can never forget a detail, always recall information perfectly, etc. My human brain is the exact opposite of that. So keeping track of scenes, things she's seen or heard is important. Especially when it comes to framing things she's learned. And that's just one thing to keep track of. There's several others for the many other characters and things that have happened. But updating the bible as soon as I write something (and vice versa) has been very nice.
