Son of War Ch.31 (Patreon)

Surprise, surprise! Son of War, the High School DxD crossover fanfiction with God of War, is back with its 31st chapter, everyone!

Please enjoy the read, especially those of you who have been waiting for this update! I know it has been a very long time, but I hope this chapter, as well as the many more to come, will be worth the wait. This story, along with many other stories of mine that have been left on hiatus, will be revived starting today and continuing into next month, now that I have finally finished college and have so much more free time to write again.

As for Son of War itself, there are quite a few issues with the story that originally caused me to put it on hiatus in the first place, particularly when it comes to the way Kratos and Atreus were portrayed. I think I have mentioned this before, but the story was started shortly after God of War (2018) was released, when I had become a huge fan of the series. Because of that, many of the portrayals of the characters in the early chapters were based heavily on their 2018 versions, rather than how they would eventually develop by the end of God of War Ragnarok and the Norse Saga.

When you go back and read the older chapters. Kratos still calls Atreus "Boy," or Mimir as "Head", for example. Those are things that made sense for their relationship in the early stages of the Norse Saga, but they no longer accurately represent how Kratos interact with Atreus and Mimir by the end of Ragnarök. Since the events of Son of War are supposed to take place several years after the end of the Norse Saga, keeping those portrayals simply doesn't make much sense anymore.

Because of this, I'm going to have to do a full revisit of the story and fix many of the problems it has regarding the characterization of Kratos, Atreus, Mimir, and the other God of War characters. I don't necessarily want to rewrite the entire story from the ground up, since there are still plenty of things from the original chapters that I like, but I do want to make sure the characters actually feel like the versions of themselves that they should be at this point in their lives.

With that said, I'm very happy to finally be able to return to this story. Sorry for the really long rant, but I hope this provides some insight into why the story was on hiatus for so long and what my plans are for it moving forward.
