I can’t believe I once thought the Blades were ugly and the NXE was The Future. Feels like shit I just want them back …oh, sorry, goes without saying IMO but this is my absolute favorite type of content. I loved tuning into the Giant Bomb console launch livestreams, back when people shared office space and console launches mattered, so this is perfect retro content to me. Truly an era-defining launch! I’ve been going back to a lot of games from this console generation lately, and I kinda feel like by the end of that generation…we’d basically reached a level of game and UI not that different from what’s currently standard. Obviously various things (like subtitle sizes at different resolutions!) have improved, but like…Dead Space 3 feels more advanced in some respects than the Dead Space remake. Maybe that’s a bad comparison, but it’s the most recent one in my mind.

I actually played Quake 4 on Xbox 360 in 2023, and to be honest, I'm not even sure if the framerate was the biggest issue. I mean, it's bad, even for this generation, I guess partially thanks to it double buffer vsync setup, but for me the excruciatingly long loading times were worse. Now, part of the reason was probably the fact that I initially started the game on hard, as the early game seemed easy, and I had seen "complaints" about it being easy, so bumped it up ... But later on, it does become more challenging, nothing too bad as such, but if you combine a good challenge with these framerates and I would say 30 second load times each time you die ... I essentially rage quit during the fight against the Makron and started the game again in normal. And if I recall correctly, it was rather easy, especially after playing on hard first, but those long load times at every attempt just got too much, and it ended up being a much more enjoyable experience.

Oh, and while verifying if there is a source port with controller support available by now, I saw a guide on steam claiming it has DirectInput support. So I could have played the PC version instead, oh well.

IT IS TIME!

The real question is, will you be able to get all of the coverage you want out of that Xbox before it RRODs?

This will be interesting watch for me because me and my friends had Wii and PS3. It was like 4 years ? into the machine life i could afford a 360 slim model. So to see it launch style 😎
