This was one of your best! And that's saying something.

Clark mentions he and Lois started dating 3 months ago, which rounds out all the 3s at the intro! Fun little bit of trivia: David Corenswet also voiced The Hammer of Boravia with a purposefully bad Boravian accent, which adds an extra layer to Clark stating "Superman thought he could be using a fake Boravian accent". I love how commanding of the screen Nicholas Hoult is. The second we see him, he grabs attention. Michael Rosenbaum is still my favorite Lex but holy crap did Nicholas grab the #2 spot. Can't wait to see more of him. Rachel Brosnahan was such perfect casting. She was so much like Margot Kidder and a great Lois Lane. So happy Isabela Merced is getting more roles since Last of Us put her on the map as a real actress. She's a promising talent. She's sure to have a fantastic career. Guy Gardner is an interesting character to say the least. His comic lore is CRAZY. And yes, that hair is straight from the comics LOL The message from Jor-El could be taken in so many different ways. I can understand the connotation sounds bad... but if you consider cultural differences, and how long Kryptonians live compare to humans... "take multiple wives" most likely meant over his lifespan, not at one time. "Rule over the planet" doesn't have to mean as a dictator but a leader with a heart. But explaining that to humans, especially with Lex controlling the narrative, is complicated. I love that line Superman says about Krypto. "He's not even a very good one but he's out there, and he's alone and probably scared" - proof that you might not like someone but that doesn't mean you quit caring altogether. Very much relate to Lois in that coffee scene. I have to load it down with sugar or chocolate to not taste the coffee lol I don't know the actress that played Eve but she is so good at utilizing the wide unstable eyes. And how she was able to go from peppy to upset in a second was also just brilliant acting So for full context, I would recommend seeing James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker seasons 1 and 2, and Creature Commandos. It helps give you a good background and foundation to Gunn's DCU... if you're interested of course!

Side note, Gene Hackman was 47 when he made Superman and Nicholas Hoult is currently 35. So you're right, Gene was older :)

I've seen a bunch of Superman depictions over the years. Still, Christopher Reeve is that iconic Superman / Clark. Well to me, obviously. Let's face it though. Nobody has done, or in fact been asked to do something even close to an equalising approach, for a live action portrayal. When talking about those particular and differing character identities. This has perplexed me each time, in all honesty. This version sorta gets a half pass on that niggling aspect of contention. Because like you said, of the limited scenes. There's like maybe only one scene where he is maybe required to put on that persona. The best they can be bothered, is a slightly above lukewarm effort to play up to nerd chic. The more humble unassuming Clark, is partly focused on the rebuttal of the statement that his alter ego just got his ass kicked. The other times he is with people that know his identity, so he is himself. This public identity was more than a goofy / strait-laced haircut and a pair glasses. Slide in hypno-glasses comic lore, and once again breeze past any apparent intent for this persona to adorn the sliverscreen, post 1980's. Having tipped my hat to this one ongoing gripe. I will say that I liked this film for more choices than I did Man of Steel. (I'll never unsee that prison ship dildo launch.) 🤣 Henry played a good Superman. A lovely man, it would appear, too. Zero creative effort was asked of him to play that secret identity too. Not his fault. It's been reported he tried hard to stand up for The Witcher against creative changes. A combination of maybe different feelings on this character and story treatment. Plus obviously not having a voice in the industry at that stage as well. Had he'd even had similar positions on the subject as some. This is only relevant to this comment, as I wanted to contrast my real appreciation for the clips of the on set collaboration between Gunn and Corenswet, that I have seen. Particularly on the choices they are making, up to and during shooting of this film. No one is ever going to get it right for everyone. But this comparatively did a better job on various things I appreciate about the character and how to effectually bring them to the big screen.

Love your hair, it’s beautiful. Just so you know I’m going to tell people you did it just for this reaction. 😝 You really spent this whole movie with a smile on your face. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I agree it feels like a comic book brought to life for all the elements you described. Yes, Nathan’s Green Lantern character is comics accurate, from the bowl haircut to the attitude. I like Lois in this movie. Speaking as someone who was once interested in journalism, and was even assistant editor of my school newspaper back in the day. I like what the tense interview scene told us about her character too. She intends to be an impartial reporter collecting the facts of what happened, but she’s emotionally involved and that comes through. People today are ignorant of what news is. It has become about personality. News is now someone’s personal opinion of a situation [that you agree with or find attractive. Or both]. And we call it news. Instead of the distillation of objective facts. I think Lois represented someone who wanted to report facts but is emotionally invested in the interview subject. I thought it was a great way to present her character. The interview devolves as she starts using her journalistic savvy to jab at Clark. But she’s right, interviewing himself and reporting it is deeply dishonest for a paragon of truth. Though even in the comics we learn Clark got his job at the Daily Planet by turning in the first exclusive Superman interview. I like that Clark’s concern is simple, “people were going to die.” Human life is what matters to him. Not politics, not borders. Then Clark’s reaction to the second half of the message from Krypton. This rang true to me. Speaking as a child of adoption, I wonder what parts of me are inherited. When you learn birth parents are unscrupulous it makes you question if you are. What this says about you and you have to rethink your foundational origins. Maybe you thought you were given up as an heroic action, but you’re wrong. And Superman wasn’t even given time to dwell on it, he was immediately in action to save Krypto. Who was such a good dog. And fully modeled on James Gunn’s own dog. Right down to how he acted. There are several videos out there with James discussing it. I love dogs and I loved Krypto. And yes, in the comics he’s Clark’s dog. Not Supergirl’s. Supergirl. Superman’s paternal cousin. In the comics she is older than Superman. She grew up on Krypton until in blew up in her teenage years. Her father sent her to Earth to protect her infant cousin Kal-El but her rocket was knocked off course. She was in suspended animation for decades. When she arrived on Earth her planet is gone and her cousin is fully grown. So her loss of Krypton is far more profound. Her movie is already filmed and will be out next summer. It is said to be adapting a well received story where we see Supergirl dealing with her trauma through alcohol and ultimately coming to terms with accepting the legacy of being a superhero and Superman’s cousin. I’m optimistic about the film. Lastly, they have already announced the sequel to this movie for release in summer 2027. Filming begins in April of next year. James Gunn is once again writing and directing. I’m looking forward to it.

While I’m sad that Henry Cavill’s era is over, I appreciate James Gunn’s interpretations, and of course I enjoy seeing so many of his cast crossing over here. Michael Rooker and Pom Klementieff voicing Superman Robots was a fun, if short, tidbit. Alan voicing another robot will never disappoint. Christopher Reeve’s son in a cameo was also a sweet moment. And I hope Sean Gunn has more screen time in the next one.

Oh wow, I didn't even recognize Michael and Pom's voices!

Superman was my favorite superhero growing up because of Christopher Reeve. Every iteration since then has been a letdown because I compare everyone to him. I had high hopes for this one going in but it felt overstuffed with characters, Lex was one-dimensional and Mr. Terrific stole the show. Lois was great…Superman was a little too hokey for me in this one. I need a balance between this version and Henry Cavil’s.

I was never into Superman movies. Never read a comic book. However, recently, I broke down in my old age to check out Superman movies -- to expand my horizon. I fully watched 6 Superman movies (all in the last 2 years). My personal ranking based on how entertaining I found them: 1. Superman (1978) *2. Superman (2025) 3. Superman Returns 4. Man of Steel 5. Superman 2 (1980) 6. BvS (2016) (Ultimate Edition) Superman (1978) I was 15 in 1978 when Superman (1978) released and had no interest. I caught bits and pieces of Superman (1978) over decades but didn't do first full watch of Superman (1978) [my first full watch of a Superman movie] until 2 yrs ago. I liked it. Superman (2025) As for Superman (2025), I enjoyed it. Liked Corenswet as Superman. Full of heart. Especially liked Rachel Brosnahan as Lois. (Though I also have a soft spot for Amy Adams.) Nic Hoult = convincing as Lex Luthor. Good actor. Nathan Fillion (of Firefly fame) interesting as pompous Guy Gardner. Good seeing cute Isabela Merced from Last of Us -- here Hawkgirl? Cool getting tease of Supergirl at end.
