There may be 10 episodes left of the season, but there are three dozen total left to close out the show. This episode also had a deleted scene. I’ll let you check it out later, but it was probably the best one out of them all. I think Coulson spoke for the majority of the fanbase if not the entirety. In real life a lot of viewers did predict Fitz and Simmons would get together, and now they finally got married which was teased since the end of the LMD arc. Daisy also spoke for the fanbase back then, and now she gets to be a flower girl.

100! Not always easy for shows to land a 100th episode, but the writer's handled it brilliantly! Yes, it was a blend of all the show's previous title cards - in some ways it's a shame you knew beforehand that this was the 100th, as seeing the intro has surprised some reactors who didn't know this was a special episode. The 'fear dimension' is a good little gimmick to allow us to look back over the show, and the writers take full opportunity to add in *a lot* of callbacks - right back to the pilot! In fact the title of the episode is a quote by Coulson towards the end of the pilot - when he's talking Mike down in Union Station - as is "it matters who you are". Despite the number of callbacks, it never seems excessive - they're balanced with the current 'present-day' plot very well. We find out both how and why Coulson is dying - his deal with Ghost Rider last finale to beat AIDA had a price, and that was to undo what Project TAHITI did to bring him back. Clark Gregg is on record about going to the writer's and saying to them "it seems like this deal with Ghost Rider would have some consequences for Coulson", and them replying "Yep..." 😂 I like how Coulson's fear of death manifestation is done - even though it kinda obviously isn't true, it's quite convincing with how it feeds in bits of info we already know and the little flashes of what Coulson apparently wishes he could have done. Also solidifies that this isn't just a team any more - it's a family. Personally, I find Daisy breaking down with Coulson to be the most emotional point in the episode rather than the wedding, but it is common for the wedding to bring the tears. Incidentally, Daisy's tears during the wedding were real - Chloe was the biggest FitzSimmons shipper on set, so was genuinely crying. IIRC, she kept the flowers from the episode. You called Deke correctly! It was in 5x08 when you theorised it - certainly surprised me at the time, as I don't think I've seen anyone else call it before the reveal.

Being back in the timeline is great, but every character is being effected some type of sadness or grief or happiness and discovery. The instant realization of the future YoYo coming true so quick and the telling of Coulsons injury and FitzSimmons wedding making the show have so many feels, with such great writing. The man of the hour Deke bringing the gang back together while still learning and exploring true Earth for the first time. The wedding and the vows made me think about the live stream yesterday when the vows convo came up.

Congrats on making it through 100 episodes of Shield. There is a meta aspect to what fear Mike chose to become. The Fandom at the time knew the show could end soon and to us hearing what Mike was saying was our fears as well as Coulson's. That these characters that we spent 5 years with didn't matter because they weren't really important because "AOS characters don't show up in the movies" Well they are important to me damnit lol 😂 If he was really flatlining that would mean nothing since the pilot has been real and that would be heartbreaking. Coulson gave away his prized possession to help pay for the wedding stuff. Deke went to a pawn shop and you can see Coulson's axe and other stuff in the windows. We get cameos from Mike, Lash, and Hive and Agent Davis returns. ( The agent we thought Aida killed in the season 4 finale.) He now has a scar that seems to be a Lichtenberg scar which happens after you get hit by lightning. Aida must have blasted him in the face with electricity. Nice job guessing Deke's family line. There are definitely clues and funny things that suggest a connection between him and Fitzsimmons. The first time we see them in space all members of the Fitzsimmons family arrive in masks. Both Fitz and Deke electrocute themselves trying to fix machines. Deke talked about the monolith being a family heirloom and we know Fitzsimmons history with monoliths.

Daisy for sure fears she will crack the earth. Interesting theory about the rift tho.

Yeah you called Deke's grandparents sooooo early, and based on practically nothing. It was an insane called shot! I agree with you having Mike be the one in the basement talking to Coulson was an odd choice. I vaguely remember that Brett Dalton was supposed to come back for this episode but ended up being unavailable. I'm guessing he was supposed to play that part. I'd would've liked Patton Oswalt as one of the Koenig brothers to have made an appearance. I'm currently rewatching Phase 1 MCU with another reactor and seeing Coulson pop-up there again is so much fun. He looks very young there compared to this grizzled (and apparently dying) Coulson.

I think I saw one or two reactors theorize Deke's relation to FitzSimmons, but no one I saw was certain and I think they second guessed themselves.

I'd heard, at the time, that Brett Dalton did show up and that it was him playing Hive.

I liked when faux-Mike was explaining to Coulson the "reality" of the situation and you see the REALLY quick flashes, when he said his own team, then "a family" and it was a different flash of the first iteration of the team in S1. The longest flash linger was on "the daughter you never had" and it was multiple images of Daisy. 😥
