Don't forget back in season 2 once Skye got her powers Fitz was the one (well besides Colson obviously) who stood by her and NEVER saw Skye any different going so far as to switch her blood tests to show that she wasn't Inhuman until the rest of the team well teams at that point calmed down. He and Skye HAD such a bond that he now shattered. Also Hale should believe that SHIELD has been to the future seeing as if I remember correctly had the blood results of Deke showing that he was genetically connected to both Fitz and Simmons

Flashback time! So, Talbot - last we heard at the very end of 4x22 was that he was alive, but in a coma. It's certainly possible to survive bullet wounds to the head (or even worse - there was an American back in the late 19th/early 20th century who survived accidentally having a railroad spike shot up through his jaw into his skull [learned that on QI]), but you'd expect there to be significant brain injury as we see. It's heartbreaking that he survived, but not only does he now as a consequence have memory and impulse control issues, but was kidnapped by Hale and kept in captivity for six months. Then, just to compound that, he initially believed that Coulson would come to save him, only to break when SHIELD didn't come. The Hydra 'school' flashbacks provide us with yet more opportunities for callbacks: amongst others, Daniel Whitehall obviously, (a young) Baron von Strucker, and an appearance of young Jasper Sitwell - who I believe you missed (or didn't remember - his S1, Phase 1 and CA:TWS appearances were a while ago for you now). We also see that Garrett's 'kill the dog' test for Ward is actually a long-standing Hydra tradition - presumably he learned of it from Sitwell. We also see that Ruby plays the same game she used on Werner von Strucker/Alex Braun a couple of episodes ago on everyone they bring into this base - Coulson immediately seeing through it and just doing his own thing is pretty satisfying to watch, and clearly catches Ruby's attention. Hale clearly has a chip on her shoulder as a result of Hydra only really valuing her for her ability to bear a child, and from the patriarchal favouritism she undoubtedly experienced in both Hydra and the Air Force - unfortunately as a result she immediately dismisses Coulson as more of the same as a result. That she doesn't think Ruby is capable of being the engineered superhuman she was designed to be is interesting (and seems to be accurate given what we've seen so far), though the idea of using Daisy instead is concerning on several levels - especially with what we know from the future. Daisy and Fitz went about as well as could be expected. Yes, Daisy has turned on the team before, but I feel there were more mitigating circumstances for those times compared to this - Daisy was either heavily manipulated or being controlled, whereas Fitz actively chose to continue with forcibly operating on Daisy after snapping back to his 'normal' self. If he was still acting as Leopold it would be much more comparable, but as is 🤷 Oh, yeah - Fitz's response to learning about Deke is *great*!

TBF to Hale (as much as I don't want to), those results for Deke don't prove the team went to the future - for example, Deke could have travelled from the future. Also, Hale's team's initial theory for Deke in that episode is that he's an LMD

I was thinking about going back through your reactions using the spoiler blocker more. Maybe I will have two comments spoiler free and spoiler for the season then like you said you can go back and read it after you finish. From a story point of view Hale is Hydra's Coulson. Her organization was dismantled and she is slowly rebuilding it in a new way. Some interesting things to think about is we hear Hydra talk about infusing Tessaract energy into a person and a few years later that is exactly what happens to Carol. Hydra would use the Attack on new york to steal Loki scepter and they would attempt to get the Tessaract but fail down the line so they have always tried to use it. Sitwell younger casting is amazing. I knew the second I saw him.

Yeah, I was hella oblivious to Sitwell apparently. 😅

Hale is the HYDRA character that I actually understand the most. Probably because she veered off from the traditional HYDRA world domination view. Even when she turned on Coulson, I completely understood why she would view the situation that way, considering her past. Growing up in HYDRA, probably ALL the men she saw were misogynistic like she assumed Coulson was.

I think you're probably right that Hale is a bit concerned for Ruby's safety because she's a mother (how could she not be?), but I do think that suggesting Daisy for the project IS probably more about what she said, that she doesn't believe Ruby has the temperment. She's chastised Ruby a few times already that we've seen. She was NOT happy that Ruby made the decision to cut off Yo-Yo's arms, among other things. She's called her a disappointment before, so I believe that she's probably more afraid what Ruby might do if given supreme power.

And yes, I do enjoy your thoughts at the end of the episodes. I find them interesting. I mostly don't care for when reactors talk a lot BEFORE the reaction. I prefer them to get into the reaction and talk after, like you do. Your thoughts at the end is where I usually take my queues from when I comment or I'll comment about something you may have missed (like the Sitwell appearance, but Christopher mentioned it already). I do think that Talbot's dig at Hale is probably the best dig at a HYDRA agent by calling her a "calamari Mata Hari."😂

Fitz didn't really snap back to his normal self - Framework Fitz is forever a part of him now. It's sort of like if the reintegration from Severance was successful, and we can consider Dr. Leopold his innie.

Heartbreaking to hear Talbot apologize to Coulson like that, when, frankly, it's Coulson that should be apologizing for not rescuing him earlier. (Though obviously, as far as excuses go, being stuck in the future in space is a good one.)
