I always love me some Patrick Warburton. All I hear though is Kronk.

If you ever rewatch season 1 Talbot was first introduced in season 1 episode 18 after Hydra was revealed. In that episode Ward and Garrett broke into the Shield base the fridge and stole the gravitonium (Which would not have been found if Ward didn't betray Coulson and tell Garrett it was there.) So the events of this season can be traced back to Ward's betrayal in season 1 and it also connects Talbot with Gravitonium very early.

Continuing with the callbacks we've been having this season we get the deepest one yet this episode, bringing back the Centipede serum/device that literally *started the show*. Adding Jiaying's healing ability into the variant of the serum Garrett was taking is a nice little bit of lore-building, further tying S2 back to Centipede (whilst still making sense due to the Hydra connections). We're getting some really cool VFX shots as we get towards the end of the season, with a number of them showing up this episode - incidentally, there's a funny blooper from this episode on note. The Zephyr cloaking in space is 💯 Talbot going into the infuser is definitely a surprise, but it does make sense with his behaviour this episode - he's desperate to make up for letting down the team (and his family and the Air Force), and willing to do anything to achieve that. Unfortunately his precarious mental state means that he's not really fully rational and capable of really thinking through what he's doing, so even though his actions are coming from a good place, he's not really thinking about the potential consequences. Coulson choosing the wrong option is both funny and frustrating - at least it gets us some more 'old married couple' behaviour between him and May. Daisy digging up her mom is pretty macabre, but she's clearly much more focused on saving Coulson than any sentimental feelings she has for her - and TBH, given how rocky that relationship ended up being, I imagine that she's far less sentimental about her than Coulson (or Cal for that matter)

Deke believes he will not blink out of existence because he believes in the multiverse theory, so he thinks that if they change what happens, then that means he's from another universe and he jumped to this one. If there is no multiverse, that's closer to what FitzSimmons believe right now, which is why they think they're invincible UNLESS they find a way to break the loop. But, I think, that if they break the loop, that is more evidence towards the multiversal theory. It means that when they reach the change point, it'll create a new timeline.
