The thumbnail expression is me at the thought of being a Queen. 🤣 Thank you to Vincent for the Reactr request! I hadn't heard of this movie and it definitely hooked my attention (also my knowledge of English history is pretty poor).

Please enjoy the reaction (and the movie, if you're watching for the first time)! I'm looking forward to your comments.

Despite the very strong urge to dip out of work so I can go home and watch this with you, I will be a good employee and wait just a little bit longer. 😅 A perfect film to close out 2025. Long live the Queen!

Gorgeous costumes in this. Think it won the Oscar for that.

This was actually on my request list! It's in my Top 100 as well, brilliant film. Excited to rewatch it with you

Only nominated, didn't win. But it did win for makeup and hairstyling.

This movie takes some notable liberties with historical events and accuracy, but it's just so damn good I kind of don't care. It definitely captures the political nuances of the time, with all the powers collapsing in on themselves as they attempt to take power from someone who, at the end of the day, is just more patient and clever than they are. The performances--especially Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush--are top notch, and I especially love the relationship between Elizabeth and Walsingham: like a Queen and her very protective pet black widow spider. Also: Daniel Craig as an assassin priest (awesome!). Good shit.

Nice! Now you'll have to think of something else to replace it on the list. 😉

I feel the same way, Steve. If anything, it inspires me to do my own research after the fact to see the differences, but it never makes me dislike the movie or anything afterward.

Steve -- well said.

I am so disappointed with the issue you had with the subtitles during the sequences with Mary of Guise and her nephew, The Duke. Even though you weren't missing anything crucial as far as the plot, they were mostly sassy and humorous side-comments, but it is a shame that dialogue was missed by you in the moment. I will have to keep in mind for future submissions anything that may have subtitles for certain characters.

Yeah, it is a very frustrating thing lately. The same happened during Final Reckoning with all of the French dialogue. 🫠 Like I said, I've talked to a few other reactors recently who have been complaining about the increase in this too. It seems streaming services are lacking at making sure they have proper translations in the subtitles.

I thought you did well absorbing the material. You too hard on yourself. I liked your observations throughout the movie, especially in regard to how visually appealing. Starting in the intro, you nailed the time frame. I don't fret the historical inaccuracies but just simply enjoy the movie. Find it entertaining. Blown away by the Cate Blanchett performance. Liked the Geoffrey Rush nuanced performance. I have nostalgia for the movie, watching it a few times over the years. Thanks Vincent for requesting this movie. The French translations are embedded in the movie in my Amazon Prime Video stream, not part of the selected subtitles. Seems like you talked enough for a YT edit (but I am no expert) - I have no idea what the number of views would be like.

Thanks Clay! I think I can be a bit hard on myself. Cate and Geoffrey do have excellent performances here.
