Hello everyone! Here's what you can look forward to this week:

Tuesday: Continuing Season 2 of Luke Cage with Episode 9: For Pete's Sake and Episode 10: The Main Ingredient.

Wednesday: My movie pick is The Truman Show (1998). At this point, I have watched far too many movies and TV shows where people say things like "This is kinda like The Truman Show!", so I think it's about time that I watch it. 😅

Thursday: Continuing Pluribus with Episode 5: Got Milk.

Friday: The Member of the Month draw will take place and I'll also share Ready Player One (2018), which was the winner of the poll that my brother and sister-in-law set up for y'all! Here are the results of that poll:

📢 Make sure to get your entry in for the April draw, which will close Thurs, Apr 2 and the draw will happen the next day. This is open to members in the Movie Watchers and TV Insiders tiers.

I'll get another poll posted this week too!

I have a personal update to share. The Canadian Census is occurring this year and I decided to become an Enumerator! It's been over a decade since I had a "stand on my feet" job and I've never had a job where I have had to work outside. Having a different routine for a few months was appealing to me. And the government is paying pretty well for this job and I could use the boost to my finances. It's part-time and I'll be doing this until mid-summer. (This was one of the reasons that I reduced to two movies per week here on Patreon for now; I just didn't want to talk about it until I knew that I had the job!)

YouTube and Patreon won't see any changes, but my Reactr page will have to be run a bit differently while I'm doing this job. My offerings will be put on pause as a default state and I'll open them up for one or two requests when I know that I am able to complete and deliver them in a reasonable time.

To be notified when my offerings open, ensure that you have clicked the Follow button on my Reactr page while logged into your Reactr account. Reactr has made more wonderful updates to the platform recently!

Thank you so much for being here! 🥰

I have many thoughts on The Truman Show. Many thoughts. Alas, as for RPO, even though I've fallen into an exploration of late Spielberg, I just don't think I can subject myself to the indignity of an Ernest Cline adaptation.

Sharpgirl

After all the Jim Carrey conspiracy stuff Truman Show is extra eeerie. I'll be interested to see your take on this. It's one of those movies I actually didn't like the first time I saw it, and it sort of grew on me.

Is Ernest Cline a bad author? I don't know anything about him/his books.

Tyler Foster

I figure that might be better to discuss after the movie as to not color your expectations of what the film will be like.

Miles is Editing

Truman Show is one of my fav movies of all time. Very hyped to hear your thoughts!

Movies with KL

Well, telling me that you're passing on the movie and using the term indignity in your reason why has already done that a little bit. 😂 Looking forward to your thoughts next week.

Tyler Foster

I'd say that claiming he sucks as a writer is just my opinion, but there are also notorious examples of it that would provide a much more specific example of what to look for in the movie, which I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly, but always better to be safe than sorry) you know nothing about, premise-wise. (And FWIW, it may not actually be in the movie at all -- many people who hated the book have thought the movie was fine, or even liked it, so...I guess we'll see!)

Chris Thom

You're going to get to know your local community more than EVER with that census job. Should be interesting and enlightening. And a LOT of walking. Can't believe you never saw The Truman Show! A true classic.

Looking forward to The Truman Show. My top 3 Jim Carrey movies in order: 1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) 2. The Truman Show (1998) 3. Liar Liar (1997)

Chris Thom

It's a fun movie. Spielberg makes it his own. All the special effects can be a bit dizzying though. As in literal motion sickness, potentially.

Eternal Sunshine is my favourite Jim Carrey movie too. One of those movies I wish I could erase from memory to be able to react to.

@Tyler - Ahh okay. When I asked my question, I was meaning "bad" in the sense of JKR or Neil Gaiman bad. If it's just his writing as a personal preference, then nbd and we can discuss after I share the reaction.

AndreaMGC

Nice!! I did the census twice. Super interesting job.

I've already been quite involved with community in the past, on a much different level. I am really looking forward to this, though. Likely being in neighborhoods that I've not bothered to walk through yet, and probably meeting people who have *heard* of me (as in, they know my name) but perhaps we've never met (and vice versa). I'm looking forward to it!

Movies with KL

I'm looking forward to it. If it goes well, I can see myself doing it in 2031 too.

Tyler Foster

Yeah, I was thinking that, and made sure to write that last comment to make it less ambiguous.

AndreaMGC

I'm sure you'll love it! Unsolicited advice: Some homes (especially apartment complexes) can be very sketchy. Always leave a detailed path plan with someone you trust and do regular updates throughout the day. I once got cornered in an apartment vestibule by a man who was threatening to assault me. Also another time I was almost trapped in a really ricketty elevator that had no emergency phone lol it's wild out there. And a lot of people get defensive to have a stranger at their door. So don't take it personally when they scowl at you! But you also meet so many really cool people, get to walk around all day and enjoy the weather. It's fun

I live in a very low crime area that only has around 4 apartment buildings (that are quite small, like 20 units or less). It's likely that I'll be assigned a zone that doesn't have any of them so I'm not too worried! As well, I was told that every house is given a notice ahead of time that someone will be coming by if they prefer to do it in-person, otherwise the notice has the online/phone info.

AndreaMGC

Yep! The notices go out to everyone. I’m glad to hear you’re in a safe area! I did mine in Edmonton Alberta. One of the highest crime rates per-capita. 🙃 it’s like the Wild West out there lol my area was one of the safest in the whole city but the scaries lurk everywhere. Anyway, I wish you the best! It’s super fun!

Movies with KL

For the Marvel fans, the Luke Cage episodes this week will be shared Wednesday morning, sorry for the slight delay! Thank you.

I've never lived in Edmonton. I've visited a lot, but not long enough to really get a feel for the city. I know certain areas of downtown can be a bit iffy, but that's about it. Thank you so much!

Tyler Foster

Okay, you know what? As mentioned, I've been going through Spielberg movies recently, having seen The Fabelmans (2022), his semi-autobiographical movie. Mostly it's been the recent stuff because I've seen the classic stuff, but I have started to bounce around through his entire catalog. I was just telling my friend the five films I have on Blu-ray right now that I've never seen, and there's one more I wanted to grab. I had the thought of looking at his filmography on Letterboxd to see what else I'm missing, and it turns out, beyond the five I have and the one I want, Ready Player One would then be the only theatrical Spielberg film left that I hadn't seen. With that in mind, maybe I'll knuckle down and watch it after all, just to be a completist.
