Unsurprisingly... I think I'm a little confused...

(PS: Sorry about the weird camera quality...... I fixed it by the following episode, idk what happened)

"Be back before Dawn." -Tara, Restless 4x22

madfem

also in your 5x01 reaction you said you thought it was Faith in her room at the end bc that's where they talk in their dreams and i was like YEAHH MA'AM and what did they talk about in their last dream sequence in 4x15??? about lil' sis coming !! 💥💫

Dan

Yeah, Dawn wasn't on screen very much in the previous seasons so it is a little jarring to suddenly get an entire episode focused on her.

Ron Fehr

Curds and whey refers to something Faith said in the shared dream with Buffy in Graduation Day Part 2. I don't recall the exact words, but even then Dawn's arrival was being foreshadowed. Of course, back then the Michelle Trachtenberg had not yet been cast in the role.

FandomReferenceHere

You are exactly as confused as you're supposed to be right now :-) And I am loving it!

Nica Marie

Dawn is actually wrong when she says Xander doesn't look down on anyone. There is one person he consistently look down on. Himself. Go back and listen to when Xander talks about himself. It is always derogatory. It's as though Xander values his own life less than the lives of nearly everyone else around him.

Nicologik Reacts

Yes, absolutely right. It´s the same feeling for me on every rewatch. I mean it even took them 5 seasons to get her into the intro. You would think they did that way sooner. Somewhere around season 2 when her and Buffy finaly grew closer together.

Ron Fehr

I liked your reaction when Buffy looked at the unicorn while Mort was trying to choke her. You realized right away how Buffy planned to slay him.

Nicologik Reacts

Great reaction :D Although I´m kind of confused with your take on Dawn. What do you mean, Alternate reality? You are talking about her as if you have never seen her before? I mean I get it, she didn´t show up a lot in season 1 and 4. But it´s a little strange how you just completely forgot her. Well... I mean sometimes I do forget stuff, too. So I don´t blame you, but it´s always funny to hear you talk about her as if you were totaly clueless :D

FernWithy

I actually really enjoy this episode. I love that they just commit to how they're doing it, just tossing this question in the air, then doing a monster-of-the-week episode. The scene with the Game of LIfe was hilarious, and Dawn's Xander-crush is just adorable.

Anitusar

I think you threatened the Buffy-writer one too many times with a lawsuit. I have a feeling they are targeting you to gaslight yourself until you do not know what’s what anymore. Not sure which side I should support, because your confusion is kind of funny … sorry.

Steve Quast

Does anyone know why Domi is so confused while watching this episode? It's like it just came from nowhere.

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

"Oh shit, they got the imaginary sister" lmao. Great line :D Confused, eh? well, skirting right by that ;) I do like this episode. Harmony is finally not so obsessed with Spike, but still obsessed with unicorns, Anya "can I trade these in for cash" lmao, Riley being supportive, Tillow obviously being cute, Dawn's crush, a very rare Buffy cracking up scene, but yeah, Buffy is pretty harsh...although Dawn is a bit of a pain in the arse ;)

FandomReferenceHere

Yeah I didn't like her much until probably the end of season 2? It's fun that she finally gets an ep of her own.

Loves Bitca

Why do I feel like Domi might be the one to actually go back and watch to see how she missed Dawn in all those episodes.

Shaun Houghton

She's just impatient to solve the cheese man mystery, and doesn't get the lack of progress there. It's gonna be a process.

Steve Quast

Hmmm....processed cheese. Yes, that can be frustrating.

zerofk

I love the interactions between all the characters in this episode. Everyone is playing off each other perfectly, in pretty much every scene. There's a really good flow to the dialogues.

John

I like to think of 4x22, 5x01, and 5x02 as the "WTF Trilogy." It's fun watching reactors react in this stretch of episodes. Also, I agree 100% that Amber Benson should be in the opening credits.

Devon Martin

welcome to season 5 :) <3 .....my heart GLEAMS with joy that this is also a fan favorite

UTU49

I've always just assumed that Dawn was the love child of Dracula and the Cheeseman. It's kind of obvious, isn't it? Or am I just nuts?

Ailish

I swear I read somewhere that she didn't want to be included in it. That way, she could be open to work on other things since she wouldn't be a main cast member, or something along those lines. It might be totally wrong, but I've definitely heard that mentioned before.

Ron Fehr

One question. How can two men conceive a child? From what I know, it's biologically impossible. Then again, Arnold Schwarzenegger had a baby in Junior.

Ron Fehr

I heard that SMG is not too comfortable with scenes requiring her to laugh.

Raven Dark

I've just started the episode, and.... Domi: Wait... wait, I'm sorry what?! Um... I'm sorry, I need to pause... Help me god, she wasn't in the credits before, was she? Domi, how could you? She was always in the credits. Come on now. Heehee, sorry. I couldn't help it. We could have called the episode The Busting of Domi's Brain. And let's just call the credits The Hazing of Domi. This is so much fun.

Bud Haven

When I first watched it 421 422 and 501 were the wtf episodes , with Buffy turning into super-Buffy and floating uranium power cores into another dimension. 502 was grounding, with finally an explanation that made sense.

KT

Yours is one of my favorite reactions to this episode that I've seen. You were confused, but didn't let that get in the way of analyzing the dynamics presented in this episode, which I think are important and interesting. And I've gotten older sibling vibes from you (I don't remember if your sister is older or younger) so was happily surprised that you found Dawn endearing. Dawn and Buffy were both being nightmares at various points in the episode, but older siblings tend to relate more to Buffy while younger ones often relate to Dawn in this episode.

Ron Fehr

I just gotta say that sometimes your predictions, although you may think they suck, are actually on point. I've noticed that some of them come true, although rarely when you predict that they will happen. I'm sorry if I'm being vague or not quite making sense. I just don't want to get too precise because I might blurt out a spoiler.

KT

He also looks down on vampires 😂

Bri

I guess she didn't get much call for it in Buffy! She was so good in this scene, though.

Milan W.

I think it's a very astute observation to say Buffy's treatment of Dawn mirrors how Joyce used to treat Buffy. Probably intentional by the writers that Buffy would pick up traits from her mother. Likely the earliest I've ever seen someone vocalize just how much Buffy cares about Dawn.

Henrik Holst

Well she did find the Pergamum Codex in Out of Mind, Out of Sight so I for one think that it's about time she got her own episode!

Ron Fehr

I guess that, as a big sister, she thought that was just how to behave. When Joyce wasn't around, she decided to take the role of authority figure.

madfem

Your review post ep was really interesting and i love that you acknowledged the great writing even tho you were very confused by all this (as anyone would) !!

Ron Fehr

Also your trust that everything will be explained eventually.

Ron Fehr

Speaking of lawsuits, it's been a while since you last spoke about them.

Iarna

Dracula is trans, obviously.

SK Elkins

"Oh shit, they got the imaginary sister!" I love the way that even not knowing what's going on with Dawn, by the time the crazy street person approaches her outside of the shop, just about everyone has already become so very protective of her. "Get away from her! Don't you DARE frighten the strange little sister who came out of nowhere and has been totally freaking me out! Don't you dare!" Willow first started talking about taking that drama class a couple of episodes before "Restless." I think it was in "The Yoko Factor." It was part of the same conversation with Tara as the one in which they talked about their housing plans for the next year.

Phoenix Dawn

What do you mean imaginary sister? That's so rude! Dawn has been one of my fave side characters all these seasons, and you just ignore her existence?! Shame!
