Ugh, its so weird getting back into the flow of things. A part of me enjoyed the 'returning to normal' parts, but it is just so undercut with negativity rn. Fucking insane ending though so we will see what next episode has in store for us!

All I will say about that Buck and Eddie scene is that I think people that say Eddie is an abuser are horribly wrong. Yeah Eddie should not have said that but calling him an abuser is crazy. Anyways, love your reactions!

Lisa

buck was making eddie’s job opportunity about himself because he was upset he found out via ravi and not eddie so i fully understood that comment from eddie. i don’t think he meant he was making the bobby stuff about himself. that was the next point about him spiraling and no one knowing how to talk to him about it. the whole first bit of that convo was about buck’s reaction to eddie getting the el paso job. buck was pissed the moment eddie walked into that kitchen, he was geared up for a fight.

Honestly, I think 8x17 is one of my favorite episodes. I find it very well balanced between all our characters and touched on grief without being overtly “heavy” in tone.

Ryan said that Eddie was called by Maddie it wasn’t even the 118 that told Eddie Bobby died it wasn’t even BUCK

Harry Allen

Thank you so much for this because u just made that entire scene make SO much more sense. I felt blindsighted as the idea of Eddie saying Buck made the death about himself would be INSANE

Harry Allen

I definately had a better time than I thought. I am curious to see how it feels on a rewatch now as I don't think I can judge things well atm, still a lil too raw.

Harry Allen

Damn that fucking sucks. I get it being a hard time and Maddie definately is family, but it isn't the same if we being real

Harry Allen

Yeah can't say that has ever entered my mind. I definetely think he has some deep rooted issues to work on for his own sake, but even if his emotional regulation can get fucked, its never been abusive imo

See, if you take Oliver’s word on it- he didn’t play it that way. He’s said it a few times in interviews. He has said that Bobby dying has left him empty and that he can’t even muster up the energy to fight. And when you watch the scene you can see that. He wasn’t reacting at all. He was very flat. Very unlike Buck. Eddie was very aggressive from the moment he walked in. Buck isn’t an idiot- he knows Bobby dying isn’t going to stop Eddie from going back to Texas. Chris is still his priority. So why wouldn’t he be happy for Eddie? He was upset that he wasn’t told sure, but he wasn’t nasty about it. He was trying to talk to Eddie like an adult, and people in this fandom need to understand that just because someone brings up their feelings on something, doesn’t mean they are making things about themselves. Eddie went for the jugular, and it was unnecessary in my opinion.

Lisa

eddie wasn’t aggressive the moment he walked in? he’s confused as he was the one meant to get the groceries and he can easily feel the tension in buck (“said i was gonna get the groceries” “i was out, it’s fine” “doesn’t feel like it’s fine”) and the way buck is putting them away shows just how pissed he is. and it’s not about eddie leaving, obviously he doesn’t think eddie will stay, it’s about eddie not telling him and finding out via ravi. i’ve watched it so many times the past year as it’s one of my favorite scenes (the way it’s shot is so different than usual 911 scenes) and while i think some of the stuff eddie says crosses a line, i always think he’s right about the buck making this thing about himself in that moment.

So I didn't know where to bring this up but I wanted to warn you that seasons 9 opener is a 4 episode emergency instead of the normal 2-3.

Again, Buck is allowed to have feelings about being the only person to not know. That doesn’t mean he’s making it about himself. And if Eddie was picking up the groceries…. Where were the groceries? Even Harry picked up on Eddie’s tone from the moment he walked in. And since Oliver was the one to tell us how he played it, I’m going to go with what he’s saying. He says he wasn’t upset, that he felt empty and like a piece of him is missing since Bobby is gone. That he couldn’t be in the headspace to fight. I think he was hurt that his best friend didn’t tell him- and Eddie even joked about it with Hen earlier in the episode. He didn’t want to tell Buck. Because he truly thinks Buck makes every situation about himself, which is so unbelievably horrible to think about someone who has bent over backwards to help you for years. And yeah I know he’s grieving, but Eddie was in the wrong- full stop. There have been a lot of choices Buck has made in the past that I didn’t agree with- so don’t think this is me trying to just take his side. We’ll have to agree to disagree here for sure.
