EPISODE 18 Did you feel like this was such a lackluster wrap of a season like me? It felt a little rushed and everything was so focused on Bobby that all the other characters just fell through the cracks. It kind of took over everything and I know we loved Bobby and we’re sad that he died but it’s such a shame that other characters stories got droppe and/or rushed. And maybe I’m too Buddie pilled but I was really unhappy that nothing from earlier on in the season was addressed. How do you feel they should have addressed it and how would they have done it? What did you think of Madney naming their kid after Bobby instead of Maddie’s brother Daniel or Chimney’s friend Kevin? Do you think they really bombed the Texas arc because at the end of the day he was only there for 2 episodes and they never actually addressed the real reason Chris went running there in the first place (Kim/Shannon and Eddie’s repression)? Did you feel like Eddie’s hand was forced to move back because Bobby died? If he handn’t of died what do you think would have brought him back? A random question but have you ever noticed that Maddie and Eddie have never once had a conversation on the show? They have shared like 3 words and have been in the same scene only a handful of times which is crazy because of his relationship with Buck. It’s a popular theory among the fandom that the reason for it is because if they did share a solo scene&conversation Maddie would just clock Eddie’s tea (love for Buck). Ryan and Jennifer complain all the time that they never share scenes. Ryan revealed in an interview with Oliver Stark that he when signed on the show, Tim Minear told him that Jennifer was going to be his love interest. In that same interview Ryan told Oliver “now you’re my love interest”. Wild. Here are some fun facts about this season that I’ll share now that we’re done: 1. There was a promotional still released for episode 13 of Chimney at the fire station and it looks like lines of cocaine in front of him and the fans caught it. The still was removed from all official websites but Twitter already had a hold of it. Most fans knew Kenny was probably just messing around but some people genuinely thought the actors were just doing lines of cocaine onset and the fact that abc deleted it just made it look worse. The story behind it was revealed last weekend at a convention by Kenneth Choi that he was just messing around with the salt and laughed noticing it looked like cocaine, and made it into little lines. He called the promotional still guy over to take a photo as a joke and when the stills were being released it was uploaded by mistake. ABC get mad every-time someone brings it up. Too funny. Kenneth now has a Chimney Cocaine sticker as a joke 2. The reason they killed off Bobby was because ABC wanted to kill off a main character due to budget cuts which you know but on the chopping block was Peter Krause, Ryan Guzman (who actually thought he was going to be fired (since he hadn’t been at work for a month) and Jennifer Love Hewitt. But Peter wanted less hours with same amount pay and he was getting tired of doing all the physical stuff. He more than likely wanted Bobby to retire. ABC wouldn’t negotiate so they just killed him off. It’s a shame because Peter said he would have stayed on the show for a 100 more episode 3. Because of the fake script “leaked” by Oliver and Jennifer the fans genuinely thought that the upcoming death wasn’t going to be real and only temporary. The popular theory was that the government was going to keep a hold on Bobby and fake his death because of the disease and they were going to use him as a “lab rat” so to speak. During the funeral episode they made paralells to the kid not actually being in the grave, and also the fact that the government had Bobby’s body didn’t help with the theories? What do you think of that theory? Fans pretty much thought he was going to be alive until the finale aired and there was just nothing. 4. This was revealed at a convention last month by Ryan Guzman but remember in episode 12 they said there was a hiring freeze with the El Paso Fire Department? Well apparently he was going to save people from a robbery then go be a cop. He was going to end up returning from Texas and being Athena’s rookie. Which would have made sense because they did that episode where they talked about Athena getting new rookies. I’m glad they didn’t go this route though. Could not handle my Eddie being a cop. We have enough copaganda. 5. Gavin McHugh (Chris) gets flown to LA from Georgia every few months to film scenes in block. 6. S8 was on the way to being one of the highest rated seasons of the show until Bobby’s death. It had an 8.7/10 average. All the episodes after Bobby’s death got below a 5/10 and brought the season average WAYY down. I genuinely thought all the episodes were good but people were really mad that Bobby died and started review bombing the episodes on IMBD 7. Now this is not 100% fact but it’s been discussed in the fandom circles and from some legit BTS people. Apparently Buddie were really supposed to get together this season. They got ABC’s approval. Buck was going to realise his feelings because of what Tommy/Maddie said and the Texas storyline was going to be Eddie’s feeling’s realisation. Then ABC came in with the main character death and just threw a spanner in the works and I think there were some BTS issues so it just never ended up working out. How disappointing. That’s why they added episode 13 in as a last minute episode before the two parter because they had to change things around. It would definitely line up because things were just getting so Buddie heavy then poof barely anything for 5 episodes. 9. Ryan Guzman has a contract of 16 episodes per season, thats why you’ll notice in some of the longer seasons that he isn’t some episodes. It explains why Eddie/Ryan were missing from the 2 parters but it was such a bummer to exclude him from such a monumental moment. The actor has expressed his dissatisfaction with that. There was so much backlash that he wasn’t even included in the montage of everyone finding out/reacting to Bobby’s death (but Tommy was who’s only been in a handful of episode) that Tim added in a scene last minute of Eddie finding out on the phone. Ryan said it was the original scene was longer and that it was Maddie who made the phone call. According to people who were at the convention, it was said that when Maddie called Eddie that, he actually thought Buck had died first which is even more depressing. I would have loved to see it though. 8. Buck and Eddie’s canon ages have been revealed. They are born a day a part in June except Eddie’s 1992 and and Buck is 1991 making Buck older!!

SEASON 9 EPISODE 1 Did you expect them to ever go to space? I suppose they’d end up there eventually lol. What did you think of Athena pulling away from everyone? Did you initially think she was really on a date? What did you think of the new Hen/Eddie dynamic with Eddie now being the new paramedic? I know Buck was not happy because that’s his partner but I love this dynamic. While I’m upset with Bobby’s death and how they did originally I think they do a pretty nice job (mostly) on honouring him this season without things feeling too negative. It’s a pretty good season with some good ratings (compared to last season lol) Fun fact 1:Tim Minear, the show runner, said in an interview that the only reason Eddie jumped off the bridge is because he knew Buck would be self sacrificing and do it. He wanted to protect him :( Fun fact 2: If you think that whale emergency was unrealistic, it actually happened to someone in real life and there was footage. He was mostly okay other than some minor injuries!!!! Fun fact 3: The actors who play Harry and May got bumped to series regulars for this season.

EPISODE 18 Thoughts of prior episodes: I do think they address Bobby’s death in Season 9 in a way that doesn’t make every episode feel heavy. I totally understand your hesitancy toward the show. I felt that way for a while, too. At least we had the “luxury” of three months to adjust lol. FUN FACT: We recently learned that a scene was cut in which Maddie was the one who called Eddie about Bobby. That makes me wonder if Eddie initially thought Buck would be the one calling, and whether some of that fear came out as anger. I think Eddie was also calling out the fact that Buck wouldn’t actually have been happy about the El Paso job the way he claimed. Eddie wanted honesty from him instead of watching him spiral and make another rash decision, like transferring stations in the finale. The point could have been communicated much better, though, and maybe would've made more sense if the scene that was cut, had been included. QUESTIONS: 1. I do appreciate how the Chimney/Athena storyline played out. Did you ever expect that duo to have conflict prior to Bobby's death? Imagine having a baby named Robert haha. The baby will go by Nash moving forward, which I prefer. It was a nice sentiment and a good way to finish off the season. 2. What do you think Buck is trying to solve/fix by putting in for a transfer? He’s saying he’s fine and he’s happy but obviously he isn’t. 3. How would you feel about Chimney becoming captain of the 118? What kind of conflict do you foresee could arise from that decision? I will say A+ on Chimneys monologue though. Kenny is such an amazing actor. 4. I think the thing that annoyed me the most about Eddie’s return is that it never really felt like his decision. He was set to go till the very end, and then Chim tells him he’s not leaving. Was it really that easy? I know that it’s an issue of running out of runway at the finale and not having time for stories to breathe. As much as I hate cliffhangers from one season to another, I think 9-1-1 needs to begin employing them so the endings don’t feel so abrupt. 5. What do you think of Athena selling her house? What do you think could be next for her?

EPISODE 18 SEASON 8 BTS THOUGHTS: I love this show very much, it doesn't mean it is above reproach. You had wondered previously how the cast and crew could work like this after hearing some of the things that happened behind the scenes. To be fair, this happens in every show, we're just letting you into all we know haha As for why the actors continue working under Tim Minear despite the half-formed storylines and last-minute changes, my impression is that they’ve figured out how to make that relationship work for them. The main cast have talked about bringing character ideas to Tim over the last couple of seasons and getting responses along the lines of, “Yeah, sure, why not? I like that.” They seem to have become much more vocal about their creative choices as we move forward and I've seen the positives of that, especially in season 9. On the writing side, a number of writers have been there since the beginning, while newer additions seem more willing to go along with Tim’s whims. He loves old Hollywood films and often shapes story arcs around them: like Shannon’s doppelgänger storyline in Season 7 drawing from Vertigo or the cruise ship disaster taking inspiration from Poseidon. They aren’t bad ideas on their own, but they can be shortsighted, especially when it comes to dealing with the consequences afterward. From interviews, it also sounds like ABC executives strongly prefer the large-scale emergencies that span multiple episodes because they’re cheaper to produce over time and bring in strong ratings. As a result, character-driven storylines around these disasters suffer. I think Tim is still trying to recapture the magic of the Season 2 and 3 disasters, where the entire 118 was in danger rather than just Athena. But then again, it’s Angela Bassett—we all know why Athena keeps ending up at the center of those stories. This year is the first year cast have gone out and done meet and greets and conventions, so we've been privy to more information than before. It really comes across that the main cast and crew who have been around since at least season 2 truly love working together. Maybe that's the pro that overrides a lot of the cons (and a steady paycheck, I presume too).

SEASON 9 EPISODE 1: 1. What do you think of the Hen and Eddie partnership? What about Bucks jealousy over it? “They have been working together for years” bless Ravi. 2. How do you think Athena is doing with processing Bobby’s death? It seems like every other member for the firefam have been there for May and Harry. How do you feel about Athena’s approach or lack thereof? I’ve always struggled with Athena’s maternal side. We don’t see it often, and when we do, it’s typically in conflict. 3. Jumping off the bridge is a very Buck move (as referenced by Chim). Any thought of what would compel Eddie to jump instead and not wait for authorization? 4. Eddie and Chim have been an underutilized duo, in my opinion. What are your thoughts on what they discussed? I’ve always wanted for Eddie to have scenes and storylines outside of Buck and Chris. Still crossing my fingers for Eddie and Maddie. 5. Buck didn’t even want to go to space! He just doesn’t want to be left out. How do you feel about therapist baby Nash? You think he’s charging enough lol

9x02: What do you think about the relationship between the brother Harry/Buck and the potential there? Especially since we know him and May hang out with Buck on Thursday’s to watch the bachelor. What do you think Harry’s storyline will be for the season? Are you happy that him and May are more involved since they were missing for most of S7 and s8? FUNFACT; Elijah Cooper and Corinne Massiah who play May and Harry have a weekly podcast about the show where they talk about the episodes after the air. It’s cute.

Episode 2 1. I love that Karen is having her moment to shine for this arc! 2. How do you feel about Harry’s take on Athena’s risk taking? I can’t help but compare her to Bucks tendency in seeing their life as a cost for a “greater good”…like passive suicidality when they willingly put themselves at higher risk when it’s not needed.

Episode 3 Yes, this is a 3 episode opening disaster arc. They had too much story which needed an extension. FUN FACT: The dispatcher in Nashville Maddie spoke to is part of the new spin off 9-1-1 Nashville (on it’s first season). There’s a crossover episode with Nashville (episode 1x12 which goes after 9x12) later this season. I do recommend you watch it because it features our team heavily. You honestly don’t need to know anything about 9-1-1 Nashville, I didn’t, and I was still able to enjoy it. 1. Mara is so real for telling Denny to puke somewhere else! What are your thoughts on 9-1-1 involving the kids in for this opening emergency? I’ve always wanted an episode where the firefam kids bond over their parents constantly being in danger and how they deal. 2. My personal opinion: Chim should’ve let Eddie do the amputation. Eddie is a trained Army Medic and they are trained to do field amputations, inserting chest tubes, blood transfusions, etc. They have more training due to their circumstance than a typical paramedic.
