Still not vibing with the overall idea for this story, but loved getting to see Cap Chimney start to really feel like he is settling into the role. Excited to explore that some more when we get into the actual flow for the season!

Yeah the space arc isn’t the most well received opening emergency. However the rest of the season is great!!!!

I don't know if the person meant to say the opposite, but big emergencies aren't cheaper to produce, they're more expensive. Stunts, VFX, practical effects, and longer shoots all add up. They may seem cheaper because sets and assets get reused, but the initial cost of the emergencies are still very high. That's also why the show sometimes has quieter episodes after major disasters to help balance the season's budget.

USAR is urban search and rescue. They are typically called on mass casualty incidents.

With Chimney - I think ultimately he wanted to take the risk and liability of this decision out of Eddie’s hands.

Very well could be true. I am just going off of Tim’s latest interview mentioning that fact.

Yeah, I just realized it's two different comparisons. it's cheaper to produce if they spread a big emergency across multiple episodes instead of trying to fit it all into one, which was what Tim said. I was thinking about it compared to just doing regular, character-focused episodes, which would still probably be cheaper overall. I think that distinction is important. It also depends on what they do for the big emergency and what they do for the regular episodes. Wasn't coming at you, just realized we were talking about two different things.

I actually disagree. I think the opening emergency while being ridiculous as hell was mostly well done. The writing of the rest of the season however is just plain old bad. Especially the Buck and Hen “issues”. I feel like those were even less believable than the whole space thing. Overall I think this season shows typical ABC writing of “we cannot let a character be happy for more than one episode”. It’s all drama all the time and it’s honestly frustrating.
