NIKKI AND SANDY ARE BACK!

After months away from Texas, our favorite reluctant roommates-to-be are finally reuniting... but not before sharing some very personal emails about their latest adventures...

Two girls. Two weeks until college. One obscenely expensive credit card. And the uncomfortable realization that sometimes "adapting" feels suspiciously like... living.

Welcome to the last days of summer before St. Christopher's. Welcome to The Ritz of Passage.

Love this and as a native Texan I am smiling

Helena Grace

Nikki is so pouty here, it's cute. Girl, be nicer to Lauren! Your tits are Mason's fault, not Laurens Can't wait to see part 2. Sandy coming in clutch here and Nikki is so, so doomed

Omagathief

Yeah since Nicky is still on the “juice”, s/he might still be developing their curves, so the bra may have been right at the time but not anymore, which is not Lauren’s fault

Tim

Love Nikki's and Sandy's snapshot! Love what you're doing with this format!

Emory Ahlberg

Evidence that you and Nikki probably share some outfits!

Gemma

OMG we are spoilt rotten! Thank you, thank you, oh thank you so much. What beautiful images. Nikki has never looked prettier. She looks so adorably cute lying back on her bed with matching Cowboys top and bottom girl pyjamas (underwear?). She also looks like a girl ‘down there,’ - I love the fact that you cannot detect the ‘special restraint’ she has been forced to wear. Maybe the size of this restraint has needed to get smaller along with other ongoing changes Nikki is still undergoing? All the images are magnificent. I do, in particular, love the one of Nikki wearing a pretty flowing dress walking in nature amongst the wild flowers she looks so amazingly beautiful and feminine. I also love the fact that Nikki’s breasts have gone up a size. What is she now, a ‘C’ or a ‘D’ cup (hopefully not being too personal here, just wondering). I gather that binding her breasts now is no longer an option. ADAPTATION, what a good rationale to use and get Nikki to draw upon to explain various steps she is now taking towards more feminine clothes behaviours. This has enabled her to hold onto the her stance and the increasing illusion of non acceptance and ‘condemnation’ to explain behaviours and choices of clothes etc. - “I’m forced to do this in order to fit in” (‘not because there is a part within me that likes what I’m doing’). Oh Sandy is quite clever here, in the almost machiavellian in the way she picks up on this idea of ‘need for adaptation’ to further encourage and explain the reason behind Nikki needing to embrace these different aspects of her ‘increasing femininity.’ The images of Sandy are also outstanding, wow! I am so pleased for her and the new comfort in her own skin no need to think, to try and fit in, and overall sense of just being’ Overall, thank you Emory for spoiling us with this little taste of upcoming episodes of Half Sisters. P.S. Emory love the image you created of Nikki with the scowl on her face when forced to try on different bras. This petulant scowl just makes her look even more cute and adorable!

SingularCurve

Awwww!!! All the cute, fluffy, girlishness!!

Maggie Heels

Ohhh I think if Sandy will asks with her puppy eyes face to face then Nikki will do bikini wax... expensive champagne will help with the decision hahaha

Maggie Heels

P.S. "I GOOGLED IT!!! Have you ever heard about content creator Emory Ahlberg? I am guessing not because why, right???" OK so please do not freak out. I checked her and... listen to this... her specialty is to write force femmed stories but this is not the weirdest actually... (yes I know how ridiculous it sounds), one of her stories is called... "Half Sisters" and........... geeeeeeezzzz it is awfully similar to our lives... like IDK somebody would spy on us constantly and shit.... that is kinda idk... weird at fuck you know..."

Crewchick

Love, love, love it!!! I so missed my girls. Can't wait for their return. This Snapshot though, you nailed it. It tells a complete story without any major jumps. The voice is right even though not part of the larger chapters you usually write. Sweet, funny, charming, it is near perfect. It tells enough of the story without giving away too much of what is to come in the larger story format. While I always want more, especially when it comes to Half Sisters, knowing its return should be imminent, I feel sated for now. Just don't keep us waiting too much longer for the full story to return. Now as for Nikki, girl brain is definitely setting in. 😉

Crewchick

Now in the intro you say "welcome to the last days of summer before St. Christopher's". I hope this does not mean when Half Sisters returns that Nikki and Sandy are already moved in and started school. There is still so much that needs to be said and done in the longer format before we get there. First who or what surprises Nikki at the end of the date as she looks up toward her house? And when we last saw Sandy, she was trying to talk Mrs. Palmer down from going full John Wick on Hutchinson. At the very least I think we need to see Mary Palmer calling a war council and pulling in Sandy, Mrs. Ferris, Lauren, Evie, and Jessica, in order to help train Nikki and to be better organized to look out for her both socially and in learning the more fundamental and mundane aspects of being a girl that are critical to convincingly living as one. Especially when living under the microscope that is dormitory and college coed life. Also, to be extra eyes and ears to protect Nikki when it comes to Hutchinson. In a much earlier comment I mentioned it could be fun to see Nikki and "the squad" out on the town helping Nikki learn to hide in plain sight by standing out to fit in (gee where have I heard that advice before???). If that is not going to be part of a longer story, maybe it could be another Snapshot? Possibly even another part of the Dallas trip? It starts out as Sandy and Nikki going away for a spa weekend but Sandy brings the girls in either for more company or as reinforcements in helping file off a lot of Nikki's still rough edges before coming under the intense and unrelenting 24/7 eye of Texas sorority girl scrutiny. I still kind of want to see Nikki and the squad rolling through Dallas in a limo with the champagne flowing stopping at every club along the way. They stroll past every velvet rope because they all look killer and no one can say no to Sandy's double platinum card. Again just my humble thoughts.

Nikki 🤝 me Wearing a Buc-ee’s shirt to go grocery shopping

Kris Greg

I've been patiently waiting for you to find the time to revisit these two. This is a good exchange for the sake of character development. Nikki's complaints are great.

Ellen Mellor

NIKKI IS TURNING INT0 GIIIRL! 😂 That was utterly adorable. Nikki's confusion and teenage girl pettiness made me laugh. And her Cowboys underwear set was so cute. This has really made me look forward to the next run of stories. I have to admit that I'm in a bit of a dilemma though. I want to go back and reread the whole story so far in preparation for the next season but I also want to leave it until it's complete so I can enjoy it all. I know the two aren't mutually exclusive but for some reason it feels like not deferring the enjoyment will reduce the future pleasure. I also know that this is completely a 'me' problem. I desperately want Nikki to meet her namesake (and Kathy) from Ranked Competitive Breast Growth. I think the opposed brain worms in the two of them coming together would cause the end of the universe. Also, also Nikki is so right. A Bikini wax is an evil thing but it looks soooo good afterwards!

Ella Cherry

We have a saying here in Brazil that kept echoing in my mind while I read Nikki’s email: sometimes God gives wings to those who don’t want to fly. 😉

Nolwenn

Toxic masculinity... please sandy stop. You are feminin, but you are a man (basically) But otherwise, it's good to see them again. And Nicky is stlll a good competitor. Against all odds, she won a cup this summer... again😁🎇🎇🎆🎇🎆

Jade Diaz

The cat by Sandy’s lap is everything

Thomas Tolliver

But that dress looks killer on you, Nikki! Sandy is definitely rocking those jeans, but we all know my preference 😛

Crystal Peaches

Love this! the artwork is so beautiful. and its lovely to see Sandy slowly helping her 'sister' to stopfightin g herself and accept who she is.

mdaily

The pic of Nikki in the robe is far too cute to be legal in any dimension!

Robertlouis

What a great innovation, Emory, and it works very effectively. It’s fun, maintains interest in the subject, and doesn’t disturb the canon or key themes of the main story. And of course it’s a great showcase for both Nikki and Sandy’s latest looks, and they’re both looking great. Nicky, looking ever more girly - like the sleek hairstyle - is still fighting against her increasing femininity, but it’s more of a show. She’s actually starting to enjoy it, although she’d never admit to it. And she’s calling her friend Sandy now, major change. Sandy is in her element. Loving herself, loving her life and making the most of everything that her new privilege offers. She has a great relationship with her “mom” and is eager to share her good fortune with Nikki. And with those PS’s, Nikki’s defences are collapsing faster than the Italians in WW2 in North Africa!

Robertlouis

Oh, and the cat in the first pic could be an extension of Sandy - totally content and at ease with the world. Awww.

AB

Lauren doesn't suck, certain assets are growing faster, Nikki needs to look in the mirror more often.

Tuor

I am just catching up with everyone else (nothing new here :). I started with Maid for Life a few weeks ago and just finished the second season last night so I am delighted to find this here waiting! Thus far Nikki has been a little disappointing but I am sure her character flaws will be "soothed beneath the artists loving hand". Sandy on the other hand has stolen my heart <3 and her beau Josh is delightful as well. Thanks for yet another great story!!

Crewchick

This snapshot was amazing. I really loved it. I also appreciated all the comments. The talk about adaptation and how much more feminine Nikki is becoming has me doing some very deep thinking? The question I am pondering is what is the trigger for Nikki's growing femininity now? There are some biological girls, cis and lesbian, who embrace an endogenous fashion style and esthetic. More than Nikki wearing her over sized former teen boy clothing. Leaving her Deadpool t-shirt in the men's room at the mall was a blessing. Now I know Hutchinson has some parameters he has set for how he wants her to look and dress. But up until the date, Nikki was pretty adamant about only wearing girl clothing when she had to. Even if Nikki was coming to realize the changes to her body were likely irreversible, acceptance and adaptation does not automatically mean feminine. It could have just meant better fitting clothing (and more tasteful) that is more "male light" or endogenous. Who knows maybe Nikki could have brought back the "Annie Hall Look"? LOL! So what changed things? Was it the date? Was it the way her mom was responding to her? Is it Sandy's support and encouragement while living out and thriving in a very feminine identity? We still see some resistance but it is less militant, less absolute. Is who we are pre-printed in our DNA or is it malleable and shaped by our environment to some lessor or greater degree? Nikki talked about admiring herself in the mirror and how good her legs looked. Her mother's positive response to her female appearance, the spa and the waxing, and the fact Nicki looks very much like Mary Palmer at the same age, does all that help to shape a new self identity? Did her date trigger anything? Being able to live a life in a female body and persona and be able to actually find enjoyment in it? How much influence came from Clinic 12 that was suppressed due to all Nikki's anger and rage at first arriving home and dealing with her dad and Hutchinson, but now in a more peaceful and supportive environment is quietly surfacing? In the big picture the physical changes are easy. Surgery, hormones, exercise, make-up and hair styling and you can make anyone look like a girl. But being a girl requires the more nuanced cognitive changes that impact mannerisms, speech inflections, non-verbal responses, and much of these are learned in childhood through patterning. For someone who has been effeminate since childhood, spent much of their time with women, and played with girls more than boys growing up, that patterning may already exist and be easily transitioned with the physical. But for someone who is forced into being female, that learning curve is very high. And unlike the physical that can be accelerated to a degree, until they learn to hack the brain, learning requires time, practice and application. I think that is an aspect about Clinic 12 that is kind of understood but not really spelled out. It is why there is such a distinction between toys and companions. Companion take about four years before they are ready. Toys take about a year or two. Companions are supposed to be indistinguishable from "real" women (natural born or self identifying since youth). Toys are allowed to be messy. Their part of Clinic 12 is the "island of misfit toys". They can be a "Charlie on the box" or a train with square wheels". For some like Hutchinson, that messiness may even be part of their appeal. Jill was on the island about four years if I am counting right. Nikki about a year on the island. Jill was in the companion program. Nikki was initially in the toy program until Xu saw her test results. I don't think we fully appreciate the the processes that takes place at the upper levels of Clinic 12 above level 0. Levels 0, 1, 2 & 3, are the most dramatic because that is where the hormones and surgeries are taking place. By level 4 the physical changes are done. Probably by level 2 or 3 they are learning make-up and how to walk in heels. But level 4 those things stop becoming classes and start being fundamental elements of how they live every day. They finally get a relatively "normal" but feminine living space and a degree of freedom to move about the island. They are still learning and absorbing and encoding those fundamentals into who they are, in such things as motor responses that are almost as fundamental as breathing. And that "freedom" is not a respite from the training that took place for several hours a day at the lower levels. It is 24/7 observation and reinforcement. As we see with the Jack & Jill Show" there are cameras everywhere. a faux pas yesterday becomes the point of correction and reinforcement today. Jill is the fruit of that intense conversion methodology. Nikki had only a year on the island. She was still in the classroom stages, barely out of the hormones and surgery stages. In fact she is still taking hormones even now at home. The results being her increasing breast size and increasingly more feminine appearance. But because she started out in the toy program she did not get the degree of inculcation that comes at the upper levels of life in Clinic 12. Because her test results surprised Xu it looks like she may have had an expedited crash course on the Companion side, but hardly long enough bring about the conversion we see in Jill. An acceptance and adaptation to that new life. Nikki came home still fighting and thinking she could reverse what happen to her and return to her old life. Her Dad still thinks that. In part because he can't deal with the fact he allowed this to happen to his only son. So if he can reverse the process and return Nick back to how he was before, Mr. Palmer can put Humpty Dumpty back together again sitting on that wall. But what if what resulted from HD's fall was not a runny mess of yoke, but the releasing of a hatchling from its shell? A little gangely and awkward at the start, but destine to become a beautiful bird. But I think it is going to take more than a few hugs and cries with mom, a few trips to the mall with mom and some gal pals, a date with Zack, and a few spa trips with Sandy. It will take time before she is ready for 24/7 scrutiny by obsessively judgemental sorority girls. She is not a foal or baby gazelle that starts running shortly after birth, even if Hutchinson seems like a hungry lion. That may seem like a major incentive, the kind of pressure that turns coal into diamonds, but as we learned in the last episode of Jack and Jill that is not true. Pressure cannot turn coal into diamonds because coal is too impure. Natural diamonds are formed from pure carbon under extreme heat and pressure deep within the Earth's mantle, a process that coal does not undergo. Applying pressure to coal would likely result in compressed, crushed coal powder or graphite, not diamonds. And while graphite may have its uses, it is not a diamond nor is it a college coed. At best that kind of pressure may push Nikki to work harder at acting like a girl, but it won't propel her into thinking and living as a girl. I have no doubt the more Nikki lives as a girl and interacts in public as one and is accepted as one in those exchanges, and the more she can find normalcy and joy in that existence, the more natural it will become for her. Like a method actor who trains and lives in character for a year or more before actually filming their part. But even then they are still acting and will return to their "normal life" after filming. I think the more Nick lives as Nikki, the more comfortable and natural it will become for her. Unlike the actor, she has little choice but to remain as she is. There is no going back after what has been done to her. But the other factor for Nikki's change to become lasting and convincing is that she has to want it and embrace it fully, even if it was not her choice at the start. We see that in Jill. Once she realized she was at a point of no return in her transformation. A point where Nikki actually played an important role, because Jill submitted to castration in place of Nikki for Nikki's acting out on the beach. I think that was the point of acceptance for Jill that there was no going back and that she had to adapt to the physical body she now had. It was not surrendering to Xu and his will. Simply accepting and and adapting to her new physical parameters and appearance, and embracing it in order to make it work for her and not for Xu. I think we are seeing that in small ways with Nikki's changing attitude. I just am not seeing the catalyst for Nikki that we saw for Jill. Nikki still has her male genitals, even if shrunk. So it seems like there would be reason for belief, if delusional, that she/he could return to his former self. But maybe a nicer version after reconnecting with her former "Nicky" self and rekindling the friendship from that time with Zach. I know I have an old fashioned binary view of sexual orientation, but I just feel like sexual reassignment surgery for someone being forced to live as another gender would be a pretty solid hard stop for any hope of going back to who and what they were before. And force them to live as they are now. And for Nikki considering competing in Women's sports it would remove a lot of risks of being accused of being a man competing against women. I also know that Hutchinson wanted Nikki to keep her male genitals thinking it might help a gay Zach be attracted to her. SO... this is going to sound possibly really crazy, but if Nikki is coming to the realization that she will never be able to recover the body and life she had before and will have to embrace life as she now presents. Might it be an act of acceptance and adaptation and also an act of defiance against Hutchinson if Nikki underwent SRS before moving into the dorms? Hutchinson wants a playmate and beard for his gay son. Well that is less likely to be Nikki if she is "all girl" down below. She and Zach could still be friends. She could even still keep that part of her deal that she publicly be seen as Zach's girlfriend. But she could blunt Hutchinson's plan for a sexual relationship and marriage between her and Zach. I know there are a lot of people on "Team Zach" who want to see them hook up. I just don't think a forced relationship and marriage make for a happy ending. Even when it is between two former best friends. As cruel and painful as Nikki's transformation was. Nikki has a whole new world to explore as a woman. I joke about Nikki becoming a super model. But that is not completely out of the question. Her mom was a model and pageant queen who only gave it up to have a family. Nikki has a lot of her mom's features, plus she is very tall for a girl. But that is not the type of future she could have if under Hutchinson's thumb or a part of his family. Sorry, I have been rambling here forever it seems. I will end it for now, but dying to hear your thoughts and read your reply when you have time.

Tim

As a huge Nikki fan, Diana, I thoroughly enjoyed your loooooong comment with all of the questions (and answers) you posed. This one specific comment you made really struck me: "...physical changes are easy. Surgery, hormones, exercise, make-up and hair styling and you can make anyone look like a girl. But being a girl requires the more nuanced cognitive changes that impact mannerisms, speech inflections, non-verbal responses, and much of these are learned in childhood through patterning. For someone who has been effeminate since childhood, spend much of their time with women, played with girls more than boys growing up that patterning may already exist and be easily transitioned with the physical. But for someone who is forced into being female, that learning curve is very high." This made me think back to when Nikki's mom described the sweet boy who enjoyed his time with her while his father was away on an oil rig in the Gulf, going on outings with the scout troop she led and being accepted as if he was just another one of the girls. But when Nikki's father returned, he taught Nick, with a great deal of insistence, to be the macho, perhaps misogynistic, quarterback/big man on campus that he hoped his son would become. So, I really don't know that Nick has to learn to become a girl. Rather, I think Nikki has to unlearn how to be the boy her father insisted on her being. Perhaps the learning curve is not so high—it's the "unlearning curve" that's steep. I don't know that Clinic 12's program was directed at "unlearning," but Sandy's adaptation approach just might be. Nor do I know whether SRS should be a part of the unlearning process. Logically, it wouldn't seem so, but I'm way out of my element to take a side one way or the other on that option.

Crewchick

Tim I really appreciate and love your comment. We are both way out of our depth here. I just tend to jump in both feet anyway with my two cents (will that still be a thing with the end of the penny?😱). But you raise a very good point about Nikki having an unlearning curve. That is a very interesting perspective I did not really take into consideration. I think to some degree I did not see Nicky as effeminate, just not hyper masculine. More in touch with his feelings and connecting with the people around him. He did not want of be a girl then, he was just trying to be himself at an age that did not understand and comprehend gender stereotypes yet. That is the Nikki we see on the date. The boasting the jokes, the recounting of past memories good and bad, the reader can hear all that in Nick’s voice and see the QB saying and doing all those things (once purged of the asshole). But the female Nikki can also be seen and accepted saying and doing all that. To some degree girls get more of a pass acting in ways associated with being male. Bragging, trash talking, but it is seen as “cute” and “funny” because they are perceived as being facetious and less likely to do what they are saying. And that works in the company of guys. Not so much in the company of women, unless they are aping and mocking a man for the entertainment of the other women they are with. But Nikki in the date is just trying to be herself, a self she has not really been free to be since she was Nicky, but is still highly influenced by Nick and his experiences and now to a degree by Nikki and life experiences she is having. Whether it is Nick or Nikki I think there is an underlying voice that is genuine, but the exterior can greater shape how that voice is heard by others and possible to a small degree how Nick/Nikki is presenting it. Nikki is painfully aware of how she looks and how others perceive her. Her own father treats her differently. It may be more subtle, but I think even the way Mary Palmer treats and responds to her is different than how she might have treated and responded to Nick. A mothers love in unconditional, but it is human. She cared and worried about Nick on the field, out hunting with dad or riding motorcycles, but there was likely a degree of acceptance that those are the things men do. But not she sees her son as frail, weak and vulnerable, at least more so than when she was a quarterback. We see it in how she responded to Nikki riding on the back of Zach’s motorcycle. And telling her to get a scarf for her hair. Something she never would have told Nick to do. She is seeing and responding to Nikki as her daughter. Over time that has to reshape how Nikki perceives and presents herself. Then there are how strangers perceive and respond to her, not all of it welcome, like the cat calls in the mall or the police officer Ed who pulled her over. Even someone she knew intimately, Lauren, treated her very differently before she recognized Nick/Nikki’s birth mark. And even after it is very different, lending Nikki her tights and sweater and helping Nikki pick out an outfit for the date. The gender dynamics is is very different in a non-sexual way. How women respond and treat each other is very different than the way in many cases that they respond to men. The only exceptions possibly being a gay male friend or a guy inescapably in the “friend zone”. Over time all that would have to weigh in to reshaping how Nikki percieved and presents herself. To some degree I think there is a chicken and egg question here. I think we can pretty confidently say self perception usually shapes physical presentation. But can a forced or imposed physical presentation reshape the self perception. I think it can over time. But with repeated interactions and experiences that re-enforce, in Nikki’s case, a female identity. It could be a really interesting experiment to try and measure this with an advanced immersive virtual gaming system. Assign all the male players female character and the female players male characters. The characters strength, skills, abilities, and even voice for the other players would all be reflective of the character assigned. Over time would the players begin to play, engage and act more like the gender of the character assigned? And would that impact how they engage with one another. Would the female character begin to act more aggressive and bold because the strength and ability of their character allows them to be. Would male players begin to act more cautious and group minded because their character’s strengths and abilities are more suited to such behavior? Kind of a gender divided Stanford Study done in a virtual environment. Far from perfect but could be interesting.

Tim

I think you put your finger on it, Diana, when you said that young Nick, speaking with his “underlying genuine voice,” was just trying to be himself regardless of gender stereotypes. Nick's/Nikki's struggles are rooted in identity, not gender. We saw his/her true identity in the sweet young boy Mary Palmer so lovingly recalls. When Howard Palmer began forcing a hyper-masculine stereotype on what he saw as a "soft boy," he was in effect attempting to alter Nick's true, natural identity. Likewise, Leonard Hutchinson (via Second Dawn) went to the opposite extreme, forcibly feminizing the bogus macho male into an identity as far removed from "macho" as possible. Neither identity works for Nick/Nikki because that is just not who s/he is. It's the two other primary influencers in Nick's/Nikki's life, Mary Palmer and Sandy Flynn (or does she now go by Sandy Ferris?) that have any chance of success because they are the ones encouraging Nikki to be who s/he truly is and is meant to be, regardless of gender... at least that's my theory this week.

Crewchick

So well put! ❤️

Gemma

Felt a need to mention a comment by Nikki that captures her ongoing denial around aspects of her newly acquired physical attributes. Nikki in her email to Sandy still sticking to referring to her breasts as ‘flabby pecs’ not acknowledging aspects of her feminisation, and her acquisition of female breasts.

Gemma

Some very interesting and deep insights and thoughts into the evolving Nikki and future directions. Personally, as I have said previously, I’m a romantic and do hope Nikki and Zach do get together as a couple. I also still hope Zach is bi and hope that he develops sexual attraction and love for Nikki that also goes beyond the physical and with the person she is deep down. Inna similar way I also hope that Nikki develops increased physical, psychological attraction to Zach as a man and as a person. I also hope ( like you) that Nikki’s feminisation continues and eventually, after some initial resistance, she ultimately undergoes complete SRS. I don’t know what the story line could be that would enable this to happen that does not leave Hutchinson seeming to be the winner. I enjoyed reading and mulling over your extensive thoughts on Nikki.

Brandi

Obsessed with Nikkis makeup

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, David! 💕 Texas is a beautiful state with beautiful people.

Emory Ahlberg

Yeah, I definitely think perhaps Nikki has developed a bit more up top than she is willing to admit! 💕 Haha

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you very much, Tim! They have been so much fun!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed breakdown of the episode! Sandy is being wonderfully Machiavellian in the best way possible. She understands that Nikki's pride and her history as a competitive athlete are her biggest psychological hurdles. By framing femininity as a strategic "play" or an adaptation for survival, she's trying giving a rationale she can accept without feeling like she's surrendering. It allows her to engage with these changes as a mission, not a defeat. It also highlights the difference in their journeys. Sandy has found that "sense of just being" because she had less of a rigid identity to lose in the first place. She was already adrift. Nikki had a whole fortress of masculinity built around her, and she’s trying to figure out what’s left now that the walls have been torn down.

Emory Ahlberg

Yes "Fluffy" moments are so important for them. Amid all the trauma and confusion, having these small, simple moments of being "girly" - even reluctantly - I think is a lifeline. Thank you!

Emory Ahlberg

I think Sandy is absolutely the kind of friend who would use every tool in her arsenal - puppy-dog eyes, logic, and yes, very expensive champagne - to get Nikki to face the wax! LOL at your P.S.! Talk about meta hehe

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much Diana! I love that you enjoyed this little snapshot. I wanted to give everyone a glimpse into their current headspace without jumping too far ahead in the main story. With Nikki, I think that "girl brain," as you call it, is definitely starting to set in! Much to her horror. The internal conflict is shifting from "this isn't me" to "why do I care about this?" I can absolutely confirm that when Half Sisters returns, we will pick up right where we left off... literally a few minutes later. I've actually already rendered the beginning. You're right, there's so much ground to cover before they even set foot on campus. A "war council" led by Mary Palmer is a fun idea! Although it may be Sandy in charge, haha. Also love the idea of girls' weekend in Dallas! Imagine the chaos and bonding that would ensue. Thank you for these wonderful ideas. 😊

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you mdaily! 💕 That's the tragicomedy of Nikki's situation right now. Deep down, the old Nick Palmer is absolutely horrified by how cute {s)he looks, but his eyes don't lie. He sees the girl in the mirror, and a small, terrified part can't deny she looks good!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you Crystal! I think Sandy recognizes that "accepting" would be a bridge too far for Nikki right now. Instead, she's giving her the tools and the rationale (adaptation, strategy) to navigate this impossible situation without completely shattering. It's a sisterhood born from shared trauma! 💕

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Tomas! I had a lot of fun picking out their outfits for this snapshot. And Sandy is definitely more comfortable in her own skin now, so her style reflects that relaxed confidence... Nikki is still very unsure.

Emory Ahlberg

Adorable Mr. No Name! 😺 He has been with Sandy since Maid for Life!

Emory Ahlberg

Wow, Ella, that is a beautiful and heartbreaking saying. It really captures Nikki's entire situation. She has been given these "wings" (a body that many people would desire) but to her, they feel like a lead weight, a cage. Can she ever learn to see the freedom in flying?

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ellen! 💖 I’m happy you enjoyed Nikki's reluctant descent into girl world! That "teenage girl pettiness" is such a fun / crucial part of her current psychological state. It's a defense mechanism - the larger existential horror is too big to process, so her mind is latching onto these smaller, more manageable annoyances like bras and waxing.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Kris! There will be more next month, as well. I'm enjoying this "slice of life" story for them. Nikki’s complaints are the engine of her character development right now lol. She can't control the physical changes, she can't control the social situations she's being forced into, but she CAN control her attitude haha

mdaily

Just like me last friday!

Crystal Peaches

Oh totally. I just think you have a real handle on the emotions and thoughts behind each character. That combined with the art work makes it such a delight and emotionally satisfying to read.

Kris Greg

I can totally see why that's true for her, & I'm looking forward to December's installment to their story.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Robert! That cat has been with Sandy's story since Maid for Life. My idea has always been that it was Sophia's cat. 💕

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Robert! I'm REALLY glad people seem to be embracing this format. Sometimes the most revealing character beats happen in these quiet, unguarded moments between the big plot points, and the email chain felt like the perfect intimate medium to expose their internal monologues. Oh, and you’ve zeroed in on the exact tension I’m playing with regarding Nikki. That "show" of resistance is becoming less about actual refusal and more about maintaining a sense of continuity with her past self. She’s terrified of the enjoyment because it implies that "Nick" is fading, so she has to perform the outrage even as she’s secretly Googling dresses. It’s a defense mechanism against the cognitive dissonance of physically feeling better while psychologically feeling defeated. 💕

Welcome to the party, Tuor! 💕 Binge-reading Maid for Life and Half Sisters is a heck of a marathon! It’s always fun to see how the story lands when consumed all at once versus week by week. I completely understand your feelings about Nikki. She is difficult right now. She’s clinging to a version of herself - that arrogant, mildly toxic jock persona - that no longer fits her reality. It makes her abrasive and resistant, which can be frustrating when you just want her to accept help. But I think that friction is essential. We have to see her struggling against the current, so that her (hopefully) eventual growth feels earned rather than forced. The "soothing" process you mentioned is going to involve a lot of ego death before we get to the healing part. That said, I’m thrilled Sandy and Josh have captured your heart! 💕 They balance out Nikki’s darker, more internal struggle by showing what acceptance and love actually look like in practice. Sandy is the light at the end of the tunnel that Nikki can’t quite see yet, I think.....

Wow Diana, this comment is a feast. You’ve unpacked the psychology and the lore with such precision that I feel like I should be taking notes on my own story, LOL. You asked the million-dollar question: Why the high-femme presentation? Why not just jeans and a tee? I think the answer lies in Nikki’s competitive nature. She was never a "guy" who did things halfway. She wasn’t just a football player, she was the star QB. She wasn't just a jerk, she was the king of the locker room. Now that he’s been forced into this box, her athlete’s brain is still running the show. If she has to do this "girl thing" to survive or to protect Zach, she’s going to try to win at it. Sje doesn’t know how to be subtle or androgynous because her entire life has been about extremes. Plus, I think there’s a subconscious element where the "costume" of high femininity feels like armor. If she looks so different from Nick Palmer, maybe it hurts less because she can dissociate and pretend she's playing a character. Your analysis of the Clinic 12 timeline is spot on. Nikki is absolutely a "glitchy" product in their eyes. She didn’t get the years of behavioral conditioning that someone like Jill had. She has the hardware (the body) but not the software (the mannerisms, the instincts). That friction is going to be a major plot point at college. She’s going to walk like a linebacker in a sundress, metaphorically speaking, and watching her try to navigate the subtle, unwritten rules of female socialization with only a crash course from his mom and Sandy is going to be both tragic and, hopefully, a little funny. I love your "Humpty Dumpty" hatching analogy. It’s beautiful. I think right now, Nikki only sees the broken shell, while Mary and Sandy are starting to see the bird. The tragedy is that she can't fly yet because he's still mourning the shell.

Brandi, me too! I really wanted that look to serve as a kind of armor. Nikki approaches everything like a competition... even eyeliner lol

Emory Ahlberg

Oh, absolutely. Hope she didn't find Fictionmania.tv lol

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Gemma! By labeling them "flabby pecs," she's framing her body as a failed male physique rather than a successful female one. I think that allows her to still interpret the changes as just being "out of shape" or having "noodle arms," which is a problem a guy can fix at the gym. Acknowledging them as breasts would mean accepting that the change is permanent and intentional, and she just isn't ready to let go of that denial yet.

Gemma

Thanks Emory, I concur with your feedback thoughts.

Jessica??? Is that because I accidentally called Tim Tom in one reply because I am an idiot and did not see I hit the "o" instead of the "i" right next to it, and am too ADD to notice the mistake until just now? BTW error corrected. Sorry Tim! Or maybe you think I may just look like Jessica Rabbit? 😂 I am not bad, I am just drawn that way in the artist's mind. 😂 😂 😂

Emory Ahlberg

LMAO - So sorry, Diana... It was a VERY long day at work and I was thinking about another woman who works next to me!

Crewchick

Ohhh, do tell! 😉

Emory Ahlberg

😳 - All I can say is that she has been on my mind! Hehe

Emory thanks so much for this reply. And for laying out a bit of your approach to the coming school year. I get so invested in this story and its characters that some times I have to remind myself this is your story and your characters, not mine. You approach makes sense and sound like it will make for a sweet, endearing and even funny story that also pack's drama, anxiety and suspense. I am afraid I have spent many many years in a career where I was heavily engaged in planning and problems solving. Using an analytical mind (though shaped for better and worse by high degrees of both OCD and ADD. Hyper focused and hyper distracted all at the same time. God's little cognitive "speedball". Enough focus to piece together deep obscure thoughts and apply them in new ways while lacking the focus to clean up my own spelling mistakes and typos. Also prone to rabbit holes, run on off topic tangents, and over explanations, like just now...), like I was saying, using an analytical mind to issue spot and try and find and fix problems before they actually arise. So when I see Nikki I want to help her avoid all the potential obstacles ahead of her and "pass" and eventually transition as smooth as possible. And ultimately to defeat Hutchinson and help see he gets his due justice. That is just a part of how I roll and what I do in life. But you as a writer need friction and drama. You want a far less than perfect school years so that we can see Nikki's growth and how she over comes adversity taking very sour lemons at the start of the school year and turning them into sweet lemon aide by the end of the year. With more than a few laughs and cries along the way. I can't promise I will stop popping up from time to time as a "good idea fairy". But I will make more of an effort to sit back and enjoy the story presented instead of trying reshape or redirected it in ways I think will avoid friction, and maximize success as I would define it, but likely make for a less eventful and less interesting story. And just for the record, no, I am not "The Accountant"! I don't do audits or assassinations. And between the two you certainly don't want me doing audits.😂😂 😂

Crewchick

Emory, "say no more, say no more, wink, wink, nudge, nudge..." 😂

Ella Cherry

Oh, I bet she can! But honestly… for the thrill of the story, I kind of hope she struggles a tiny bit more. (Sorry, Nikki…!)
