Four confessions. One Halloween costume. And a decision that could end everything.

So, funny story - this was supposed to be the final chapter. I sat down to wrap everything up and realized Taylor had other plans. Turns out there was way more ground to cover than I'd anticipated, and Chapter 14 clocked in at nearly 12,000 words. Oops.

The good news: you're getting a meaty chapter with 10 new images. The bad news (or good news, depending on how you look at it): we're not done yet. Chapter 15 will be the true finale.

I'm aiming to have the final chapter out this month, but it might slip into next month. Quality over speed, right?

Thanks for sticking with Taylor's journey! We're almost there. Can't wait to read your thoughts. 💕

O-M-G!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!! A-MAZE-ING!!!!!! This is incredible. Despite the fact I want more because I want Taylor to have MIT and the scholarship understand and allow him to stay. Plus I want to know how Thanksgiving goes and if Indiana survived Abigail. But i get it and it is the perfect place to end and allow our imaginations to fill in the gaps and provide our own ending. But also a perfect place in case in a while you decide you want to revisit and advance the story further. Only disappointment, you had Maya, dressed as Holly Golightly, on a fire escape and did not have her singing "Moon River". 😔 But you had me with the first two images in the boat house. As a rower I am a sucker for anything rowing related. And your rowing references and commentary were almost spot on. Almost like you may have spent time in a boathouse or on a crew team at one time. Love and Respect!!! And Jadzia Dax, pitch perfect!!!! I could not think of a better costume for Taylor. It is a very pointedly statement making costume and yet also subtle and understated. If you know Taylor and Star Trek beyond TOS reruns, then you know. But if not then it is just a very detailed Star Trek costume probably worn by a very hard core fan or Trekkie. If you don't know you probably don't need to know. The only thing I was a little disturbed about after all the drama about Taylor's deception and need to come clean, is, does Will know about Abigail? If he does, cool, I probably just missed that somewhere. They seem like a cute couple. But that is a piece of information that should probably be shared before entering into a drunk make-out session, because you never know how a person may respond. But over all great story with fantastic art. 5 🌟's!!!!! Two 👍!!!!!!!!!

I believe that what you've done in giving us another chapter is technically called 'doing a Greaves'. But as with Alyson's Zeno's Paradox approach to writing, I'm totally here for it. The more writing from both of you there is, the better the world is. As for the chapter - it was lovely. It needed the space you gave it to properly breathe and actually tell the story. And, even at this length it felt like it could have been longer - I'd have loved to see some more of Taylor's mum over the weekend. Did she meet Maya? I loved everyone's reactions to Taylor coming out, even his semi-confession/ explanation of why he chose Jadzia. And it was absolutely perfect, explaining both his own gender-fuckery and that of Dax in a way that DS9 never managed. (Chloe was spot on in her observation). I love that Abigail has found love. Or at least serious lust. She deserves it. And also that she's been 'adopted' by someone who cares. If the Thanksgiving dinner isn't part of the last chapter then I hope you consider giving it to us as a Snapshot coda, if only to see the family - blood and found - happy and together. I do have one complaint though - no picture of Maya in her Audrey Hepburn dress! Her Breakfast At Tiffany's look is iconic and when you mentioned it I really wanted to see your portrayal of the look. But you know, that's minor. We were spoilt with all the artwork you gave us. One last thing: 'The spots go all the way down' made me laugh out loud. (And wish for a picture depicting that...)

Diana Green

Absolutely loved this soooo much. The fluffy feelz™ and then Abigail and Tay's mum. 🥹💖 Art was stunning as per yuz—can really tell that you've grown more and more comfortable with this style. And Tay's H'Ween costume... Not predictable at all. 😁

Ezri gets no love

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Diana! I’ll respond fully to your comment later but just wanted to quickly say that this is NOT the end. It was supposed to be, but the chapter grew in the telling and so now it’s the penultimate chapter instead. There will be another!

Kris Greg

LONG, but terrific. This felt real. This felt like I was reading an actual person's story. It was definitely worth the time. Thanks for posting this.

Claire

Wonderful story. Amazing, honest, caring friends. I love them all! You could have ended it there, but I'm glad you didn't. I will miss these people. Thank you for this. (and more stories like this. Please?)

Jerome B

This is yet another amazing chapter! As I've said before, you are a creative genius. I can't wait for the final chapter...!

Samantha Louise

God I hope they are there next year, I’m nervous for them. Love the costume choice!

Thomas Tolliver

One of Will's lines is colored pink instead of yellow on page 3 towards the bottom.

Thomas Tolliver

Wait wait wait wait. Where's Maya's costume!?

Alex Hait

This is the type of story you can continue forever. There are lots of stories to tell. Glad its not ending now and will be sad after chapter 15

SingularCurve

Yay!! Another great chapter. Costumes. Mom. Roommates. Friends. Happy sigh.

Crewchick

Well look who did not read the entire intro before jumping right into the story! Guess I was the kid who opened up the birthday card shook it and looked for money, then went back and read the card. 😂 And this story was "money fo sure"!

Tim

How Monday's meeting should go, with Taylor's opening and the MIT scholarship office staff's initial response quoting Taylor's and his mom's own words: Taylor: "I'm not actually a girl." Staff: "Yeah, we know. Your mom told us last summer that you were transgender. That you were a trans girl. That's why we have you rooming with Abigail." Taylor: "If I'm... I don't even know what I am yet. Non-binary maybe? Or some days a guy and some days not?" Staff: "Trans? Non-binary? Somewhere along the continuum? Neither black nor white, but a shade of grey? The last I looked, there are at least 50 shades of grey, not just one. You look comfortable presenting as a girl right now. How do you feel about that?" Taylor: "I feel good, but nervous. I might lose my scholarship... and miss out on the life that I'm living now. For the first time in my life, I feel like I belong." Staff: "And how about Abigail? Does she see you and accept you as a kindred spirit? She hasn't asked us for a different roommate." Taylor: "Abigail is my best friend. We would die if we were separated." Staff: "Then what's the issue?" Taylor: "It's my scholarship. It belongs to a girl. I don't deserve it." Staff: "You can't be saying that we shouldn't award scholarships to transgender or other non-binary individuals?" Taylor: "No, that would be wrong." Staff: "Then, I still don't see the issue. Our mission here at MIT is to produce the nation's highest caliber college graduates, and based on what I see in both your academic record and in the bright young student sitting across from me right now, you are exactly the type of person MIT needs if we expect to succeed in our mission."

Another, Taylor’s, page 33, top, is yellow instead of pink

I absolutely love your work on "Taylor Made". The depth you are able to reach with the long form prose, accentuated with your artwork, is something I truly look forward to. I do wish Tay's mom had met Maya. Maybe at Thanksgiving.

Exactly

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Diana! Jadzia Dax... it had to be her. There is no better shorthand for "my existence contains multitudes" than a Trill symbiont lol Regarding Will and Abigail: We know they've been texting for about a week. She has stated that she doesn't owe the world a disclosure, but she probably mentioned something before the kissing started.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Claire! Ending it here was a little tempting, but it felt like cheating. Taylor finding their people was great - but now we need to see the fallout of their choices. And thanks! More stories like this are coming. I'm addicted to writing these messy, wonderful disasters. There may even be more Taylor stories...

Emory Ahlberg

Me too, Thomas. The world is hard enough... sometimes we just need to watch good people find each other. 💕

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Kris! 😊 I guess I had a lot more to say that I thought! And I'm really glad it felt real to you. I wanted it to feel real because for so many people (both in our community and not), this is real - the fear, the hiding, the relief of finally being seen. 💕

Emory Ahlberg

LOL, Sorry, AB. 💖 Ezri had big shoes to fill! But for Taylor's specific brand of gender-messy brilliance, only Jadzia would do.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Diana! 💕 The fluffy feelz™ (lol) were mandatory after the last few chapters! Abigail meeting Mom was my favorite scene to write. It was healing for both of them... Abigail getting the mothering she deserves, and Mom seeing that her desperate gamble actually paid off in the form of this incredible friend. And the costume... I knew it had to be Jadzia the second I started planning. I'm so glad you liked the art. I'm really digging this style...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Alyson! 💖ONE more to come... I promise, haha

Emory Ahlberg

LOL - Thank you, Ellen. "Doing a Greaves" is now my favorite compliment! I blame Alyson entirely for my inability to stop writing when the characters still have things to say. You are spot on about the length. I could've written another ten thousand words just about Mom's weekend. I'm was so happy with the Jadzia choice. Although I am biased because she is one of my favorite characters! As for Abigail... she deserves every bit of that love and lust. I think maybe Will is exactly the kind of steady, unfazed presence she needs to balance her chaos. 😊

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Alex. 💖 It feels that way to me, too. These characters have so much life in them that I could write them grocery shopping and still find drama and fun. But every story needs an ending to give the beginning meaning. Chapter 15 is the end of this specific journey and I'm sad to let them go... but I have a feeling we will see them again. 😊

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you for the eagle eyes on the text colors - those take much longer than you'd think and sometimes it all starts to blur together. I will get those patched up!

Emory Ahlberg

💖 That nervousness is real, Samantha. The stakes are so high. Taylor is risking their entire future on a gamble that honesty is worth more than security. But that costume choice was a promise to themself that they intend to never go back to how things were.

Emory Ahlberg

Wow! Jerome, thank you. 💕 The finale is a beast. It'll be everything we've been building toward - the meeting, the fallout, and then the emotional return home. I cannot wait for you to read it.

Crewchick

Emory, I would hope so, and since you are the author, I will take your comment as cannon. I don't think any person, LTGB, straight or anything else, owes any group or individual, stranger or acquaintance, a disclosure or explanation of their personal life. But when a person chooses to intertwine their personal life with that of another person, then it is far more than simple courtesy to disclose anything that could be harmful, devastating or offensive to that other person's physical, emotional or spiritual well being or identity. The risk of rejection and/or outing on terms other than your own, are real and quite scary. But the risk of potential harm to yourself and that other person are far greater if not disclosed before a romantic or lust driven physical encounter. If the other person is not open or tolerant to other life styles, especially the trans community that person may feel deceived and harmed and seek retribution through physical violence at the person they were with or the entire trans community. Or, if they are particularly emotionally fragile and under developed, they could spiral into self harm or even suicide. That is a lot of fear or guilt to carry for one drunken hook-up.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Wes! I'm absolutely loving how much people are connecting with Taylor the story has been a joy to write. 💖

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Tim. We shall see if MIT holds up to Taylor's hopes...

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Singular! 💖 I really thought I was going to be able to end on this chapter... obviously, with everything that happened, I'm silly! But I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

Robertlouis

I am SO late with my comments on this wonderful chapter which I’ve reread yet again for the sheer pleasure it gave me. In fact, while I was reading it I realised two very important things about Taylor Made. One is that it’s very clear that you enjoy writing it as it comes across so much in the phrasing and colour of the language. You always have deep feelings about your characters, but the relative lightness of the themes in this story, certainly in comparison to the likes of Jack and Jill or Homecoming, allows you to express things with much more light and humour than usually applies. And there is just so much warmth and affection between all the players in this chapter. It’s almost a full circle culmination from the self doubt and withdrawal of the scared and bullied boy that we met at the beginning, and it’s wonderfully fulfilling. What Maya says to Taylor about the basis of their relationship is a perfect summary for any relationship - you fall in love with a person and all their foibles and idiosyncrasies, not a gender or some other narrow categorisation. And surely there’s going to be a happy ending. You couldn’t do that to us Emory, could you?

Emory Ahlberg

Robert, you are never late - you arrive precisely when you mean to! Hehe. Thank you for reading it twice... that's a big compliment! And yeah, writing Jack and Jill requires me to live in a headspace of trauma and fracture. Writing Taylor Made feels like opening a window in a stuffy room. The humor and light are a lot of fun. Queer joy is an act of resistance, and I wanted Taylor to experience that reckless, giddy freedom of just being, even if the sword of Damocles is hanging over their scholarship! 💕
