NIKKI AND SANDY ARE BACK (again)!

In Part 1, our favorite reluctant roommates traded emails about their summer adventures. Now, Sandy's dragging Nikki to an obscenely fancy spa for a day of "relaxation."

Spoiler alert: Nikki does NOT know how to relax.

Watch as our pouty princess navigates massages, "spa moments," shopping, and Sandy's increasingly creative attempts to get her to actually enjoy herself. Will Nikki survive a day of being pampered? Will Sandy survive a day of Nikki's complaints?

Only one way to find out.

I know this was supposed to drop on Wednesday, but Homecoming absolutely drained me emotionally, and I needed a day to recover before I could write something this fun. Because this IS fun - a much-needed palate cleanser for me, to be honest.

This snapshot has ten images instead of Part 1's seven, hopefully making up for any tardiness with extra Nikki-and-Sandy goodness!

And speaking of Half Sisters... Season 3 begins NEXT MONTH! I can't wait to get back to their story properly. These snapshots have been such a joy to create, and your response to them has been incredible.

Thanks for this light hearted post Emory. I agree with Tim, the timing is perfect given the heartbreak of Homecoming. I’m so ambivalent about Nikki. She’s such a dork but she’s soooo hawt! The image of her clutching her wine glass like an axe but so gorgeous in her jeans and sweater captures her perfectly! Sandy on the other hand is pure class, beautiful, sweet, caring and with a maturity beyond her years. You have created some wonderful characters, I look forward to your next installment 🥰

"What do I DO with this information" I think Nikki needs some coaching from Abigail. I love Nikki's dorkiness. And Sandy really is a very good big sister. Finding an athletic outlet would be very good for Nikki. I could see her on the soccer pitch and/or, as a six foot Amazon, on the basketball court. Or vollyball.

It is so lucky for Nikki and Sandy that they have each other. It’s funny still seeing how Nikki, where possible tries to make reference to her aspects of her maleness For example, describing shaving her legs as ‘ a pain in the dick.’ Nikki looks beautiful in all these images. The dialogue between Nikki and Sandy is so good natured and enjoyable to read. So interesting to hear the ways Nikki is trying to navigate her new life and her dependency and appreciation of Sandy as her big sister and guide. Certainly, as you pointed out, this story is a lighter and nice change of pace and energy after Homecoming.

Thank you, Crystal! That "slow" aspect is key. We all know that if Sandy pushed too hard, Nikki would dig her heels in and refuse to budge. By making it a shared experience.... a sisterhood... Sandy is creating a safe space where Nikki can stop fighting, even if just for a few hours.

Thanks, Kris! I agree, seeing Nikki actually relax is such a relief. She’s been wound so tight for so long. I think you're right about her "unique way" - Nikki is never going to be a traditional girly-girl. She’s going to find a version of femininity that includes combat boots, cursing, and competitive spirit.... and maybe the OCCASIONAL dress.... as a treat 😉

Thank you, Gemma! Yeah, Nikki clinging to male idioms like "pain in the dick" is such a specific form of denial. It’s her way of verbally flagging that she’s still "one of the guys" even while getting her leg waxed. You're right about the dependency, too... I think Nikki is realizing he literally cannot navigate this new world without Sandy, and for a control freak like him, that’s terrifying and humbling. But it could also be the foundation of the strongest bond she’ll ever have outside if her mom.

Oh, Abigail would have a field day with Nikki! She’d probably tell her to stop overthinking it and just call the girl, but we know Nikki is going to agonize over that receipt for at least three days. And yes, she desperately needs an athletic outlet before she explodes. I love the idea of her on the volleyball court - she’s got the height and the arm strength for a killer spike, though she’d probably try to tackle someone under the net out of habit lol

Sandy is the strategist, adapting to survive, while Nikki is pure instinct and resistance. Putting them together creates (for me) this perfect storm of chaos and care that is so fun to explore.

Thanks, Tuor! 💕 I’m glad you enjoyed the lighter tone! You nailed Nikki’s vibe perfectly... she is absolutely clutching that wine glass like a weapon (and looks uncomfortable). I love that contrast between her hyper-masculine instincts and her feminine presentation that makes her so fascinating (and frustrating) to watch. And Sandy really has stepped up, hasn't she? She’s growing into this poised woman who knows exactly how to handle Nikki’s rough edges.

These are a brilliant innovation. They’re not only a terrific insight into Nikki’s state of mind - we’re pretty sure where the confident and self assured Sandy is at - but they also move minor aspects of the narrative forward that haven’t otherwise been dealt with. As for Nikki, she increasingly doth protest too much. She enjoyed the pampering even more than she admits and is becoming more girly by the day. Her admission of the desire for sisterdom - not sisterhood, because that carries political connotations - with Sandy, is touching at one level, but speaks of something much deeper. And finally, while the tone of these diversions has been light, Nikki is absolutely right in the final scenes when she states just how difficult things are going to be for her when college starts. She’s going to need all her strength and Sandy’s support to see it through.

My vote is for rowing! Again Nikki has the height. She would of course have to be stroke seat in an eight or a four, but her ego may cause her to feel the need to also compete in single sculls.

Yep! Half Sisters was on hiatus while Homecoming and Jack & Jill had their seasons. Now that Homecoming is wrapping up Season 3 this month, Half Sisters will be back.

It is amazing when a person realizes that the other side of the "gender line/binary" aint so bad, when they are trans. Relax into it Nikki, you are going to be ok darlin, it is just going to take some time. Also the pressure she is feeling from Second Dawn is real, and absolutely horrifying.
