The LSC Modern Driver Support Package makes many Windows 10 drivers compatible with Windows Vista, 7 and 8.x with one drag.

Many newer drivers also need an updated version of the KMDF (Kernel-Mode Driver Framework), and I have also made a helper package for it.

For KMDF, all you need to do is supply three files from any newer version of Windows up to at least Windows 10 22H2: wdf01000.sys, wpprecorder.sys and sleepstudyhelper.sys (the latter file is not applicable if copying KMDF from earlier iterations of Windows 10 - if you can't find it, there's no reason to worry) and run the included file modifier. It is a prerequisite for most Windows 10/11 drivers. My Code Integrity package must be used beforehand.I have run Windows 10 1507 USB 3.1 drivers on Windows Vista using this package, and I have also run newer NVMe drivers on Windows Vista as well. I could see USB 4 drivers from Windows 11 running using this package, but I have no such devices to test.

NOTE: modern graphics drivers and ACPI drivers are currently excluded due to significant structural differences between Windows 10 and earlier Windows versions specific to those driver classes.

Huh this is pretty awesome. Im going to have to save some of my money and buy a newer Dell xps laptop to test this out on

technical_issues1

Oh. My. God. Does this work with RTX 40/50 series DCH drivers?

win32

Unfortunately not, that requires a brand new dxgkrnl, which is far from complete. Unless it is early win10, which may be different.

technical_issues1

That’s unfortunate. I wonder though, will modern bootcamp drivers work? I’m attempting to run Windows 7 on my modern iMac but get 0x7E on setup boot screen. I have no idea if this is either firmware or a missing driver, but it’s an access violation at zero. Wondering if you’d have any idea? Apologies for the nag.

win32

That could be an ACPI issue, although I'm not 100% sure. What do those bootcamp drivers consist of?

technical_issues1

With or without, it is the same issue. I tried with just the FlashBoot UEFI bootloader and same thing. I don’t know if this is an ACPI or missing driver problem, and it’s really odd to me.

Could the reverse be done? Older drivers on newer Windows? In particular, XPDM support for Windows 8.x? It'd be awesome to have full support for Intel 915GM on Windows 8.0 32-bit :) My understanding is some time after build 7850 they got rid of support.

win32

The problem is that there would be no hardware acceleration for anything more than D3D9 and maybe OpenGL 2.0 with those drivers. Everything else, including DWM, would still have to be performed in software.

Артем Пономарев

Is this compatible with Intel Serial IO drivers (I2C and other stuff for Apollo Lake)? That would be great.

win32

I've never tried such a driver, but I think they would, as I don't think they rely on any secondary frameworks like wireless or graphics drivers which require further work.

Rocky

Would this work for the AppleSSD Driver for my 2015 Macbook air? the driver is w8+

win32

It would need the patcher because it was compiled for windows 8 and above (using the security cookie thing that would crash any older systems), but it may work with the Windows 7 storport. If not, then it should be possible to run a Windows 8.x storport.

Rocky

Is it possible to apply these modifications to the install.wim? and where would i obtain the w8 storeport

Rocky

Unfortunately I’m getting DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bsod

win32

Thank you for your information. I am in the process of testing various Windows 8.0/8.1 storage drivers on Windows 7. Is a Windows 7 or 8 storport in use?

Rocky

Currently the windows 7 one.

Ibsan

windows fails to start the driver and the .sys file doesnt even get modified according to the date, im trying to use this with i219-v drivers, any ideas? maybe im doing something wrong?

Ibsan

Also idk if its normal that the patcher is only 8 kb

win32

I built the patcher and designed it to not require external runtimes. It does not change the modified date, but it would have an impact on the digital signature. Are you trying to install a win7 network adapter driver on Vista? I think there may be an NDIS requirement to take care of, which I'll have to address separately.

Ibsan

yes, im trying to install that one. the driver installs but still fails to load

Fun95

How different are graphics drivers between 8.x and 10? Windows 7 and prior rendered DWM differently, but since 8.0 it has been rendered via software.

win32

Windows Vista, 7 and 8.x use the same type of graphics drivers, although there are a few features that are only available starting in 7 and 8.x. The 8.x features include display/render-only drivers and the software renderer being available as a DXGI adapter. For standard GPUs, the biggest differences are in Windows 10, including different init methods and memory access methods.

TheGeekeryGuide32

Will this allow me to run modern bluetooth drivers on windows 7? and have better support for devices like bluetooth headphones and mice and keybaords?

win32

It is possible - I will need to test newer base Bluetooth drivers from Windows 8.x or higher.

TheGeekeryGuide32

I also have the ability to test it to. I have a system that I keep offline for stuff like this.

eddy

Can it help support installing wifi 7 card drives?

2LENSFLARE4U

My keyboard and mouse stopped working after patching the 3 windows 10 dlls. What couldve caused this on Windows 7?

win32

Do they use any special drivers or use other methods than wired USB connection to connect to the system?

2LENSFLARE4U

No. I have a wireless logitech gaming mouse and a wired keyboard.

2LENSFLARE4U

To add, booting in safe mode sends me straight to the repair your computer menu whereas regularly booting windows works just fine besides the keyboard and mouse not working

Computerized!Techy

Are there any updates that Vista needs for this driver patcher to work? I'm hit with a BSOD (0x6B Process1 initilization failed) when I attempt it, and I suspect that it could be because I'm missing some updates. (This happens after applying the Code Integrity Package)

win32

I would recommend build 6003 (April 2019 or later updates).

Computerized!Techy

I double checked what I had, turns out, I do have build 6003 installed, but for some reason, I can't seem to patch any driver related things, not sure if it's the hardware causing it, or something else. I had to use a special iso from Bob Pony that contained nvme & usb3 drivers. Turns out winload and ci were already patched since the iso also had a patch for intel CPUs.. (mine is a 13th gen CPU) I suspect that the initial patch that the iso did, is causing conflicts with the intel patches

win32

It is probably the same patch.

Computerized!Techy

Oh. I might be good then, I should also mention that the modern driver patcher also keeps complaining about dos signatures. The program seems to be 16 bit... Should I be using Windows XP x86 to patch the drivers with?

win32

No, it is 64 bit. It may have been corrupted in downloading or copying.

Computerized!Techy

Oh. Well that's a bit concerning... I'll try redownloading, if this keeps happening, I'll let you know

Computerized!Techy

Alright yeah, I redownloaded it at least 3 different times, and the same result happened

jsr_Games

Quick question: is this (and Second System) compatible with VxKex? Or should I disable it before installing these?

win32

These tools have no effect on VxKex, but Second System will. I would recommend to disable VxKex altogether or if not possible, copy Second System's x64 ntdlx.dll to system32 to allow it to run.

jsr_Games

I see now. I'll disable VxKex since I don't use it for very much at the moment.

win32

I2C drivers may be possible in the future with an alternative ACPI driver, which should be ready in the coming weeks.
