Does anyone have anything to say about Gladiator Theatrical vs extended cut? The cut I've found (free online) is 2 hours and 50 min!! Talk to me

It’s my opinion that the directors cut should always be watched.

I prefer the theatrical version, the other is more fun as a novelty after you've already seen it. You're not really missing much story-wise, and IMO the extra length hurts the pacing a bit. Btw, for the capturing issue, if you're using Chrome as your browser, you can try disabling Hardware Acceleration in the settings. I prefer tighter runtimes, and in this case I'd be willing to bet the theatrical version is the one most viewers would be familiar with since it was the second highest grossing film of 2000 worldwide and the winner of the best picture Oscar.

Extended cut is definitely better than theatrical cut, it shows some scenes which make more sense regarding motivations of some characters towards the end (for example Quintus, without spoiling too much). Theatrical is quite long already so extra 20 minutes don't make that much of a difference, but it makes a lot of things clearer. >> The cut I've found (free online) is 2 hours and 50 min!! I alway prefer people react to theatrical releases. Too often you can run into issues like alternate endings like in T2.

The 2:34 version is what is available for most in streaming.

I tend to lean toward theatrical cut for the vast majority of movies for a first time watch. There are few exceptions but not many. And I can’t remember them right now.

I endorse 'The Final Cut' of Blade Runner, but in just about every other case I'd side with the theatrical version of something.
