Hey all -- I watched FIGHT CLUB instead of Gladiator this week, because the cut of Gladiator that I found was 2 hours and 50 minutes which I'm assuming is the extended cut! I didn't want to fall into that same annoyance from last week where I watched a version of T2 that not many of you own!

SO -- I will make a separate thread so we can discuss if I should watch the shorter cut, or extended, on Gladiator -- and I'll work on digging that up from the internet somewhere 😬

*edit* apparently my Gladiator post -- did in fact post from yesterday, so I'll go there for info!

I don't own Fight Club, and I've never seen it. I'll see if I can find a copy to watch along. Comments once I've watched with you! (Always the high point of the week. Of course, I'm working, so it'll be middle of the night before I can watch. Assuming I can find it!)

lol "OMG Meat Loaf is in this?" 10 minutes later "I love Bob, who's Bob? I don't know him."

shanellericcio

I bring it all full circle by like 2 hours in -- when I suddenly remember Meatloaf is in fact in this... 😂😂😂😂

A pleasant surprise!

Your question about the last frame being in the theatrical cut? It was.

daniel j brooks

that yin yang table really tied that room together. i missed this movie theatres, a little too young maybe???, but i happened to be a movie theatre projectionist in '02 to '03 and all my friends would ask me if i did the stuff like Brad Pitt did in Fight Club and i was all like "what the hell are you talking about guys?" so one of my friends loaned me a copy of the dvd!!! so thats how i was introduced to this movie. i spent my first viewing trying to understand how this movie related to my job that i missed all the themes and stuff that made it great. i was all like "yeah, im pretty sure that if i spliced porn into family movies that i would be fired...the blood and fights were cool i guess..." rewatching years later and i finally got it lol. super fun reaction Shan!!! looking forward to the next one

Please! PLEASE!! You must watch the new "The Batman" with Robbert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz, Shanelle!

Okay. Now I can say I've seen Fight Club. It's a little more raw than is my taste. Brad Pitt reminds me of my brother growing up. He would beat me up mercilessly. The one time I took a swing back at him (I wiffed it; nothing but air) he had this look of shock on his face like he couldn't believe that I would have ever had the audacity to even try to fight back. Then he came to his senses and beat me up so badly I was bleeding. It wasn't too long after that that he was removed from our home by the authorities. And, I have never been in another fight since. I guess that's been about 50 years. Now, that being said, my brother and I reconciled about 15 years ago. 16 years. 2006. He and I are both married with 3 kids each. I was married 10 years before he was (even though he's my older brother). I have a not quite 2 year old grandbaby. And, we get along. Finally. So, I didn't have to shoot myself in the mouth to resolve the situation. :) No, not really my cup of tea, this movie. My favorite movie of all time is Walt Disney's Fantasia. The original from 1940. Fantasia 2000 was okay, but not like the original. Night on Bald Mountain is about as gritty as I like my movies to get. I hope you have a pleasant evening.

I know the IMDb trivia talked about real life fight clubs opening up after this movie, but I also wonder how many creepers started going to anonymous meetings for fun after seeing this.

I watched this movie several years after it came out, back in the days when we got DVDs in the mail from Netflix. Which feels prehistoric now! But my husband and I watched it and were pretty blown away. It's clear Tyler just needed a LOT of therapy! LOL

shanellericcio

oh my god yes, having started therapy myself I'm always like DAMN another person who needs to do the work 😂😂

shanellericcio

ahhh being a movie projectionist has such allure to me! Maybe I want to learn one day, but I guess ultimately it must be kinda boring? haha

actually, out of all the jobs i have ever held, that one was the most fun. the downside was that it didnt pay very much. i was only making $6.30 per hour (minimum wage was $5.50 at the time) but i was a senior in high school at the time it was okay. the best part was getting the new movies on thursday night. we had to splice all the reels together and set them up to premier on friday. we had to screen them thursday night to make sure they were okay and there werent any bad splices or anything. so that means if you were proficient at your job, and honestly the job wasnt that hard, you got to see movies before opening day and get paid to do it!!! i think most movie theatres use digital projectors now but small independent theatres might still use film prints??? idk that was 20 years ago. i have no clue what that kind of job is like now.

I did notice two of Tyler flashes that you mentioned in the trivia. There were two times during this where I could really feel like Brad was acting like Edward's conscious. Half way through this watch along I was wondering if there ever was a scene in this movie where Brad, Edward and Helena were all together and interacting with each other. I don't think there was.

I've had a theory for a long time that Marla isn't real either, but there are at least a couple things that rule it out. Soooooo close!

Another detail I love. I can't remember how many times it happens, but there is a scene where Norton and Pitt are together and there is a rounded mirror on the ceiling and you can only see Norton in the reflection. So much attention to detail in this movie, very fascinating.

Longtime sub and watcher on the YouTube side of thing. Saw this one come up over there and just couldn't help myself. I have to get a reaction to the full on of this flick. Late teen when this came out. This and The Matrix were life back then. Anyway, love the chat. Catch everyone on the flipside.
