Hey all for those who like to stay in the loop, I think I want to film Top Gun for you guys so I can see the new one!! That means I'll just push Minority Report till a little later. Hope that's cool!

Do you like Top Gun?

David Crabtree

YES!!! Top Gun is fantastic, one of my favorite movies! I am so excited for the new one!

I'm always on the fence about recommending Top Gun to people, because the good parts are really good and the bad parts are just terrible. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I could say that about most of Tony Scott's films. The guy wrote the book on style over substance. I'm curious to see your reaction.

Ryan Cornett

Yes. I think you would like the making of top gun and the legacy of top gun as well. As it was the first of its kind in a lot of ways, and ended up being the navy’s biggest recruiting tool.

Paul Cox

Didn't like it as a kid, don't like it as an adult, but I'm aware that's an outlier opinion, so have fun!

Hades13

Loved it when I was younger. Much less so now. The combat scenes are ridiculously unrealistic. I realize it's a movie, but still. Hoping they're better in the new one.

Casey Walker

I was never a fan, but I know a lot of people really love it. Give it a shot!

Jason Chirevas

It’s made of concentrated 80’s, and I don’t think Cruise and McGillis have any chemistry at all, but other than that it’s pretty fun.

Thomas Snyder

It's worth a watch for the volleyball scene alone. Plus there's actually quite a bit of accurate military stuff in it but there's still a LOT of Hollywood and not in a good way.

My Ex Boyfriend

Hell, I love Top Gun! Now I have two Top Gun movies to look forward to over the next week.

Paul Cox

For an outside perspective, I posed the question about whether or not Top Gun is any good to my friend group on facebook and, among a bunch of 40-somethings, opinions are just about as divided as they've been here in this comment section. Even those who love it acknowledge it's little more than dumb fun...just that it's the kind of dumb fun they like. Those who don't like it at all (including me) have agreed to disagree. One friend said the volleyball sequence was "formative," though, so I guess you've got that to look forward to haha.

I look at it like Top Gun is the Rocky of military movies. Girls like it for the love story and guys like it because it's cool. And like Rocky if you don't mind the technical stuff and just have a good time you'll be alright lol.

John Melcombe

The movie TOP GUN played in the theatres for over one year! That record has still not been broken. And they even set up NAVY Recruiters in the lobby of some movie theaters. I was there in 1986 and lived thru it all.

Paul Cox

Top Gun is the Rocky IV of military movies. You'd be giving it too much credit, otherwise.

Heartfelt

Lol, you got a hard on for this one. It's just a movie bro, calm down.

David Crabtree

With Memorial Day coming up, I'd like to highly recommend 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. It's a brilliant film, and a spot-on adaptation of the true events from 10 years ago, that showcases the sacrifice and sheer determination of these brave Americans. I can't praise this movie enough.

Casey Walker

Please consider reacting to some David Lynch films! I think you would dig Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive.

Michael Hill

Have you seen Risky Business? If not, consider that. Top Gun came 3 years later. He was already a star. U

Check out LegalEagle on YouTube. Two lawyers go over Top Gun and point out the rules, regulations, and laws that Maverick violates in the movie.

Lived a few miles from the base (then called NAS Miramar) in San Diego when Top Gun was really popular. Actual F-14 pilots were sooo much more boring than the movie ones.
