This might have broke us a bit 💔💔 It was so different than any other x men movie we have seen. It was incredibly done, the little girl was unreal but it was just so sad and so so bloody. I haven't stopped thinking about it!

[Full Reaction] Logan (2017) - Full Reaction

Comments

Philip G.

Finally ! Also Cassie when you get a chance check out the trailer to this movie it's one of the best trailers of all time

Clay F

Looking forward to this. Will be a first watch of Logan for me. I am working now but will watch the reaction this evening.

Ike

Oh goodness, we’re here already? Can’t wait! (I wonder if Carly will need oxygen) 😄 [Edit] Just watched it! I do appreciate that you both finished this character’s arc despite knowing it was going to be tough. I am so sorry it was gory, sad and tragic at moments. I agree - it’s not a bright and sunny finish, but here’s something to hang your hat on: Logan (James Howlett) started this X-Men journey not wanting to give a young, stranded girl (Rogue) a ride - he does. He didn’t want to be part of a team (X-Men) - he joined. He doesn’t like teaching in a Mansion - no beer! … And yet, he lived a long, long, long life of GIVING instead of receiving. In his final years, he took care of an old man, took in a stranger, and protected the offspring of the X-Men. He didn’t do it while smiling - that’s not his way - and he doesn’t owe it us either. He’s left this world as an X-Men, a hero, a pupil and a father - four things he never thought he would be good at. To quote Tony Stark - “That’s the Hero’s gig! Sometimes part of the journey is the end.” It takes love-and-bravery to examine what that looks like. And you two did that well! Thanks a lot. 😉

Dan M

Oh boy! Here we go! Let the emotional roller coaster begin. Do we have fresh batteries in the “Oh My Gosh-O-Meter”?

Bill Maurer

Looking forward to this reaction !!! Hope you all are doing great !!!!!!!!!

Cole Jennett

I was kind of hoping this would drop this afternoon. I needed something to watch to kill time before my fantasy football draft tonight😊

Knight Squirrel

Yes! All your other X-MEN reactions are awesome, but THIS is the one I was looking forward to most. 🙏🖤

Blake Evans

I’ve been waiting for this reaction for so long. Can’t wait to watch tonight! Really sorry to have broken you Cassie and Carly, but only through suffering can we find compassion lol. But seriously can’t wait to watch this one. Also highly recommend Copland (1996) with Sylvester Stallone by this same Director and also Identity and Ford v Ferrari.

The Sheeple

Cant wait to watch this reaction

Gerald

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Butt Head

I was literally about to request a date for this reaction's E.T.A, because I've found myself checking hourly for the last 2 days !! 💓

Adam Grunther

I’m so glad you finally got to Logan. I cannot overstate just how much I love this movie. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen were all phenomenal. This is not just my favorite X-Men movie. It is my favorite movie period.

Above Average Dave

Oh boy. Hope you are both well. FWIW, it broke me, too first time. Also, Jackman should've gotten an Oscar and The Academy is a steaming stank bucket of jerks for not even nominating him.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Dafne Keen is incredible. She's in a series called His Dark Materials. Please give that consideration. Seeing Charles go the way he went... That was hard to take. His seizures took out the X-Men, Wolverine lived too long to the point that he was sick and miserable... It was tough to see our favorites go down like they did but that "So this is what it feels like" when he's finally dying with some peace of mind knowing Laura and the kids were rescued and Laura's little "daddy"....UGGGG crying again! Remember the prediction in The Wolverine? "I saw you die lying on your back with your heart in your hands".... Perhaps in the new timeline that prediction wasn't his literal heart. Perhaps it was his daughter Laura.

Alex Gorell

When you first announced you were starting the Xmen movies, this is the movie I was waiting for. This is my favorite super hero movie and I personally think it’s the best one.

Dan M
>>147854502

Copland will be another good reaction once she gets around to it. A side of Sly Stallone she hasn’t really seen yet…vulnerable and lacking in confidence.

Jon Johns

"At least it's not the bones!?" 😂🦴

Wes

I know this is getting emotional for C&C 😭

Dan M
>>147854373

Hopefully the fantasy football draft isn’t as tragic as this movie…good luck!

Jon Johns

Hey, anyone who reads this: please! Watch and like the YouTube edit, I hope it will surpass the Deadpool reaction in views 😉

Dan M
>>147854274

Or a few fresh paper bags for hyperventilating or…something else 🤢

Ike
>>147854274

Yeah! I’m watching now - might be a good idea! lol

Dan M
>>147854258

Well, watching along with Cassie and Carly IS kind of like watching it fresh.

Michael West

Logan is a great movie, but it absolutely guts you. Dafne Keen is amazing. You ladies powered through for another awesome reaction. Keep up the great work. Also, the speech at the end from Shane was a great touch.

Jeffrey Smith

This one is really the only true drama in all of the X-men movies. So gut wrenching.

Johnny Salinas

I actually think that it was the Adamantium that had been slowly poisoning Logan all along. Led poisoning but the regeneration could only keep it at bay for so long.

Riley

oh em gee, been waiting for this one!! Might be my favorite of the 'xmen' series for the narrative

Jerrod Acree

Looks like I wasn’t alone in anticipation of this reaction. This film is a guy punch to all fans of Wolverine. Bittersweet. Tear up every time.

Tater

Been nervously excited for this one. Wasn't ready to watch a movie tonight but I can't pass this up.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary
>>147858286

It was, in the film he says "this shit inside me's what's killing me" or something to that effect meaning the adamantium. Nearly 50 years of a metal experimentally infused to his bones, dude probably had metal poisoning and bone cancer and who knows what else

Just Plain Bob

Cassie, the food and drink DID NOT poison Logan or the other mutants. It suppressed the X gene that results in mutation, which is why they mention that no new mutants have been born in the last twenty plus years. The only new mutants are the ones they created in the lab. It’s never stated explicitly in the movie but it’s strongly implied that Charles accidentally killed many of his students, including the X Men (as well as numerous humans), while in the grip of one of his seizures. Carly was right when she speculated that Logan is suffering from Adamantium poisoning. Logan himself says so in the movie. The comics make it explicitly clear that the Adamantium they grafted onto his bones is slowly killing him. His body is attempting to reject it. Also, his healing factor is constantly working to keep him alive, fighting the effects of the poisoning. The result is that his healing factor is essentially burning itself out. He still heals faster than normal and can survive injuries that would kill an ordinary person but he’s far from his prime, he’s quite ill and he’s aging.

Ian A

Thanks for all the awesome videos. This is going to be a "fun" one to watch with you guys. Also omg I love the "Cassie's crying towel" Great idea!

Scott Macaulay

This one was hard for me. It's a great movie but when it came out I was losing both my parents to degenerative brain diseases. There we re so many scenes in Logan like when he had to bring the Professor into the restroom that hit pretty close to home. It was good to see it again with fresh eyes with you.

Mike LL

Oh, man, I’m stuck at work till 10pm so I won’t get to watch this very juicy juicy reaction until tomorrow. It will be epic, I’m sure! I watched SHANE yesterday to prepare! :)

Astraeos

I really really wanna watch this reaction, but I also really really don't wanna become a sobbing mess today either lol. Hmmm. Glad it seems like you enjoyed it. I think this one will have to wait a couple of days, for me.

LeSteeler

This movie is right there with The Dark Knight, The Batman, and Joker as the best

Vwlss Nvwls

Dafne Keen did such a great job in this. There were a couple moments that were not so great, but overall she was awesome.

Steve Mercier

Can't wait to watch this...and yet, I think I'm going to wait for the weekend to do so, just so I have a little time to recover from becoming an emotional mess.

aarswft

Congrats on figuring out the corn syrup. A lot of people miss that. The things you need to know about the next one is A), it takes place before this film in time, they go back to just after Apocalypse. and B) the timeline is weird. The film came out after Fox had already been sold and you could tell everyone involved was just kind of done. The press tour for it was hilarious.

Edwin

***THE POISON ISSUE*** Don’t know if someone else already covered this but what poisoned Logan was not the food and water, it was the adamantium covering his bones. The adamantium started poisoning him the minute it was grafted to his bones but because he was still young (in Logan time) his body healed him faster than what the metal poisoned him. When he finally got older and his healing factor slowed down, the poisoning started to become visible.

Philip Alan

Cassie: "What happens now??" Everyone: "Deadpool 2" Great reaction, you two! On to the next!

Choof

Fantastic reaction. Without spoilers more will be explained. Up next is Deadpool 2 and I think you should then skip to Deadpool and Wolverine which will be on streaming soon. The two other remaining movies, Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, are both very bad and made right as Fox was selling the company to Disney who rightly ignored those movies so they have ZERO importance moving forward and while yes this was a dark ending to the x-men universe its an amazing way to end it. Better this than the boring unimportant whimper of Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. I'm sure some will disagree but just speaking for views you're gonna want to get to Deadpool 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine very soon

Stick Figure Studios
>>147861607

LOGAN feels far more authentic than any other comic book movie precisely because of the brutal honesty in those scenes.

Brent Petty

I say this fairly often, but this might be your best reaction yet.

Butt Head

The adamantium was poisoning Logan now his healing powers had slowed with age, the crops had been genetically modified so that diet was suppressing natural genetic mutation in humans Listen to R.F.K's speech about diet & health in the U.S recently, it's powerful and compelling stuff

Just Plain Bob
>>147866976

I’ve disagreed with posts in the past that recommended skipping entries in the series, primarily because it would’ve resulted in the sisters having even more unanswered questions. But you’re 100% correct about Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. They’re terrible movies that lead nowhere and don’t need to be seen.

Choof
>>147866976

Exactly. If they were bad movies but important for plot or character points I'd grit my teeth and say watch them, but to be bad AND unimportant is an easy skip for me

Canadianant

Loved this ladies.. I know this one was hard on you but thanks for sticking with it. I thought we had broke both of you at some points but knew that the true heart of this movie would shine through even if its incredibly dark. A powerful story with great sacrifice.

Cole Jennett
>>147866976

I don’t mind if they watch Dark Phoenix, but totally agree about The New Mutants. Both are not good at all, and won’t get you many views. Dark Phoenix at least had the cast you know.

Brent Petty
>>147861607

I'm sorry for your losses. That must have been incredibly difficult. My father is showing signs of the same. We've already lost my mother (I wish cancer had a face so I could punch it forever).

Uncle Phoenix
>>147866976

@Choof 100% agree with your position. Dark Phoenix and New Mutants should definitely be skipped.

Ulf Jerlström

Logan is such a good send of for Wolverine not sure how they are ever going to be able to recast Hugh Jackman in the new reboot in the MCU

Brent Petty

19:25 - He's pulling one of his blades out. If you look at his hand again, you'll see the top blade didn't fully extend.

YodatheHobbit
>>147872107

The MCU doesn't reboot, it continues. As Cassie and Carly saw in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, some universes have the X-Men, some don't.

YodatheHobbit

I can relate to Logan now with not healing well. I have valves in my legs which don't function optimally, so I sometimes wear compression socks. Scratches and minor abrasions to my legs used to always heal fine, but now that I'm 40 they usually leave a scar which takes a long time to fade. Glad you noticed the Wolverine action figure. That kid must love him so much.

Stick Figure Studios

What sets LOGAN apart from the other comic book movies is not so much what it contains as what it doesn't. Nowhere is the hugely expensive cartoonish CGI, no gravity-defying shenanigans, no soft and sanitized PG-13 violence, no snarky one-liners. This is raw, gritty and at times unpleasant, but that's what makes it compelling and emotional. It's a character study, a story more interested in tone and texture than in overly polished and mechanically executed action set pieces (although it does have its fair share of action, but they have weight and verisimilitude). This is the kind of movie where you can't speed through a fence with your car because it gets all mangled and Tangled Up and inhibits you. When was the last time you saw that in a film? Or as Owen Gleiberman says in his semi-controversial review: LOGAN is a "real movie... and when I say it’s 'a real movie,' I’m being honest in terms of what I think a real movie is, or should be, but I’m also aware that for a major segment of the audience, a swirling hyperactive FX mishmash like 'AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON is every inch a real movie, so we’re talking different definitions here. Mine is old school, maybe analog in spirit: a series of scenes that connect together in an unhurried fashion, held together by a pulse of interaction and psychology, with shot language that creates a grounded and organic space — a sense of the place you’re in, whether indoors or outdoors, that doesn’t shift and toggle around with every cut. My apologies to the gods of fanboy mania if that sounds stodgy and old-fashioned." LOGAN has more meager stakes than the usual end-of-the-world plot, but that just makes its events feel more consequential and it's individual sequences more impactful. It does bold things with its characters that are not pretty, but which feel real and believable. It portrays painful and brutally honest truths about getting older, the kinds of things you don't typically see in major summer tentpole movies. It is like UNFORGIVEN for superheroes. It is an extraordinary film, a game-changer in its genre. I also knew it would be very tough for you both (not just because of the violence but because of the ending), but you made it. Good job. What you ladies did not know that the rest of us did going into it in 2017 was that this was supposed to be Hugh Jackman's last time playing this character, so many of us suspected that he would go out in a blaze of glory. Because of that, his return to the role in the new DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE has even more significance. Can't wait till you get to that one. :)

Choof
>>147866976

I watched it out of boredom when it came out. The idea of essential has a different meaning in the post IP world so it's saying something when I call it the least essential movie of all time. It doesn't serve a purpose to fans, critics, or the studio since it was dumped on streaming by a company that didn't even make it

Connor Ellis

Such a beautiful ending for Logan. DON'T WATCH DARK PHOENIX AND THE LAST MUTANTS. They ruin it, whereas Deadpool and Wolverine actually handles the ending of this film properly.

Michael G

It was so nice that Mangold and crew treated this with passion and care. They set out to make a film, and did they ever deliver. It is easily the pinnacle of anything Marvel has ever done by a wide margin. We dont get many true "Checkov's Gun" these days, but this movie made the most of it.

Chris Retzlaff

Kudos, I'm an emotional wreck by the end. Absolutely adored Dafne Keen in this, and really liked the HBO series His Dark Materials. Looks like Dafne Keen will be teaming up with Dora the Explorer in an upcoming horror flick. Should be interesting

Cole Jennett
>>147875456

It’s a great movie, but I take exception at being so dismissive of other Marvel movies. I think it would fit into the top 10 of MCU movies maybe.

Joe

Choof
>>147876720

Not too late to delete your comment and reevaluate how you speak to people

Michael G
>>147875456

I said what i said with purpose and intent. easy to be dismissive of the mid that the MCU is. There are a few, maybe 3 others, Blade 2, DoFP and CA:TFA that rise above mid, but not by much, even then Logan far surpasses them.

Larry Darrell
>>147866976

Agreed with skipping Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. No Importance… What So Ever. After a film like this, no need to delay the continuation of the story. Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine are all that’s needed now.

Yaisu

Logan's swan song. Such a sad but beautiful end.

Cole Jennett
>>147875456

lol, well now you just sound like someone who has only seen 4 Marvel movies😂. To each their own I guess

Richard Maurer
>>147855818

Should have won best picture - wasn't even nominated. But then, the Oscars have always been something of a joke.

Richard Maurer
>>147856376

I always like the YT edits, just because I know it helps Cassie. But beating Deadpool is going to be tough - 740k at the time I'm writing this.

Richard Maurer
>>147861607

i lost my mother to Alzheimer's, so I understand what you went through. Sorry for your loss.

TinCan Cosmanaut

Does anyone else feel like Cassie wants to cry but then holds back after looking at Carly. (Just an observation)

Richard Maurer
>>147861667

Hope Cassie gets to watch that particular Western sometime soon. I'm not a big Western fan but Shane is one of the best.

Allan Rumberger
>>147872107

They're not going to not have X-Men in the main MCU, and they're not going to not have Wolverine be one of them, amd Hugh Jackman can't keep playing him. He will be recast, and there will be an MCU Wolverine.

Allan Rumberger
>>147869458

Do not listen to anything RFK Jr says, he's literally an insane person. His brain doesn't work correctly after decades of drug abuse and eating diseased roadkill. He's also demonstrably, factually wrong in basically everything he says.

Brent Petty
>>147876720

And while you're deleting your comment (see how those are used correctly?), think about communicating like a mature adult.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, this reaction went about like I expected. I'm glad they could appreciate the film, in spite of not enjoying the subject matter.

Brent Petty
>>147872677

In the trailer, they make it look like that with the editing, plus Johnny Cash singing "Hurt."

Richard Maurer
>>147866976

Yeah they should end this journey on a high note, not on two bad movies then a wait for Deadpool & Wolverine to become available.

Augustine Lee

awww cassie carrrr!!! good reax guys. i think a fundamental concept to at least understand is the 'tragedy' because logan and wolverine's life in general is a tragedy. the very antithesis of a happy ending but worthy art nonetheless

Clay F
>>147874395

"..no soft and sanitized PG-13 violence .... raw, gritty and at times unpleasant" made the movie more satisfying for me.

Richard Maurer
>>147875456

@Cole Jennett - You mean like Scorsese watching 10 MINUTES of one MCU film then basically declaring them all garbage, and losing any credibility on the subject in the process? Yes, Logan is arguably the greatest superhero film ever, but that doesn't suddenly make all the MCU films bad, just different - none of them were even trying to be a film like Logan, so it's really just apples and oranges.

Richard Maurer
>>147879270

Much like the Deadpool reaction - Cassie worries too much about Carly's reaction at times and it shows.

Clay F

This was a first watch for me. Been on my list a long time to watch. I like the emotion. I like that the movie is gritty at times. I like how the violence by Logan and Laura is raw and seemingly realistic (at least within the confines of their mutant ability). The Cassie/Carly reaction is good -- a lot of emotion on their faces. I guess maybe Logan welcomed death b/c tired of living his life. He had a violent life for like 150 years -- right?

Phil Stubblefield

Hated it! Some have said it's a "perfect superhero movie." Nope, Iron Man (2008) is a perfect superhero movie. I'm with Cassie and Carly on this one: this film is not enjoyable. If I want raw brutal violence and a near complete disregard for humanity, I can watch Tarantino. 😡 Sorry for the rant, but these comments seemed way too one sided... PS - I just figured out the perfect palate cleanser: a rewatch of Cassie's reaction to Galaxy Quest! 😄 That will make me feel better.

Walter Crockett

Cassie & Carly its ok Logan broke all of us.

Walter Crockett

This is not a spoiler..because you both know Deadpool & Wolverine exists. "Fox killed him, now Disney has brought him back, they are going to make him (Hugh Jackman) do this till he is 90"....LOL

Philip G.

I'm surprised nobody related the story a little to The Last Of Us

FBA Seller2023

are you going to watch x-men pheonix ???

Brent Petty
>>147859672

That was funny. As soon as Carly said in the intro "as long as his claws aren't bones" I thought, wish granted.

Dan M

My reaction to your reaction to this movie is pretty much how your post reaction commentary began…I’m speechless. I had to sit here for quite awhile before I could put together some coherent thoughts. I can totally relate to your disbelief at how this movie played out, and how it ended. It completely ignores the typical tropes of super hero movies and comic book movies, and delivers a healthy dose of jaw dropping brutality and anguish. But it also allows a man who never was able to live a normal life to close his eyes and put an end to decades of physical and emotional pain. “Nature made me a freak, man made me a weapon. And God made it last too long.” He was ready. At least, as he’s finally able to let the peace in, the last thing he sees is a part of him that will go on…his daughter. I’m so happy that both of you were so invested in this series. And I’m so proud of you both for staying the course with this one…its a really tough watch when you’ve become so attached to so many characters in the series. Loved the reaction, and loved the passionate denials at the end.

Doug Fisher
>>147876720

What kind of douche canoe leaves a comment like that against a sweetheart like Carly?! Not everyone is an asshat like you. Confession through projection and you should take your own advice and grow up!

Doug Fisher

As he said at the end everyone in Logan's life died or was killed. That is why he was so cut off and hyper Logan gruff. He knew that taking all of the medicine was going to kill him but he did it for his daughter Laura. Giving his life for his child is the ultimate sacrifice. This was based somewhat on the Old Man Logan comic run. Jackman was also looking to end his role as Wolverine since he was getting older. It was a sad but such a great ending (at the time) to his run. EDIT: That is the real Wolverine and also why it had to be R-rated. I am not saying that the other adaptations (PG) are not good, they are, I am just saying that is the brutality of Logan's life.

Brian Lowery

It was the adamantium that was killing Logan. In the comics, we find out that his healing factor without adamantium is infinitely faster, but it had to compensate all those years because of the adamantium on his bones. The foods Dr. Rice spoke of were a way to keep people from giving birth to mutants.

Brian McGovern

I knew they would not like it. Not because it is a bad movie, but because of what happens. They both love Logan and Xavier that having it end the way it does is going to impossible to reconcile. They are both eternal optimists. They want their movies to be an escape from the realities of life, but these movies are a sobering reminder that life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. They may be able to appreciate the movie, but saying they will like or love it is never likely to happen.

Jayson Phillips

So 1st off how can they do this? Alternate universe played into this, Loki and the TVA also, James was his real name from X-Men Origins Wolverine remember his brother called him Jimmy? Dafne Keen is a British actress so how she can change her accent like that was great!! I forgot did you guys watch Deadpool 2 yet? Some of the beginning will make better sense now and also Deadpool and Wolverine. If you have not seen Loki season 1 or 2 I suggest those cause they will help you understand the Multiverse and Variants a lot better.

Clarence Newman

Some eejit left a comment down below insulting Carly, so I'm going to rephrase it for him. A LOT! Cassie has toughened up these past 3 years, to the point where she's virtually Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns (Not quite but she's getting there), but Carly is the most tender soul any of us could wish to meet and she happens to have real trouble watching gory stuff like this. Especially when it's relentless. To the idiot who wrote that comment, when was the last time you stayed put for two hours while something that upsets YOU is happening right in front of you? Once, maybe? More likely never? And don't waste your time or ours by listing "brave stuff you've done". Nobody's going to believe you if you start spouting off about how many cage fights you've won or the grenade you once dived on only to find it was a dud. Genuinely tough men (or women) don't come on to websites and drop unprovoked insults from behind the complete and utter safety of their firewall. They simply don't need to. Carly wanted to get out of that bed and leave on a dozen separate occasions, but she stayed put and saw the whole thing through. That's courage whichever way you look at it. Comments like that one don't happen on this site. Like most other people on here, I ADORE these two girls, and you don't get to attack them in Cassie's house. To everybody else, I apologise for the rant, but to that one guy, the door is over there, mate. If you're not going to listen to me, then listen to Viggo Mortensen - "SEEK LIFE ELSEWHERE!"

Mojo One Thousand

Good job Carly, you stuck it out! That speaks volumes about your character. I couldn't see one, so I be the one to add the obligatory mention about the callback to "Yukio's" prediction about "Logan's" fate in "The Wolverine"... with his heart in his hand. James Mangold bringing it back with the distraught hand of "Laura" in "Logan's". James Mangold was responsible for both movies. There will soon many of this comment when this hits YT. I had the same reaction as Cassie and Carly about Dafne Keen being super impressive in this for someone that young. The scene where she busts Hugh Jackman in the chops sitting in the Bronco has just always stuck with me. It is very bleak, this movie, and it is just wrenching from the night in the "Munson" house until the end. Jackman and Stewart are awesome, and not just in this. Always good to see Richard E. Grant ("Zander Rice"). And, Eric La Salle ("Will Munson") reminds me, we need "Coming to America". Probably lucky Mark Wahlberg's "Invincible" is coming up, between this and some other movies on their way... "uplifting" is few and far between.

Ike
>>147876720

Please ban this guy. We don’t need to see a comment like this again.

Clarence Newman
>>147891989

Agreed, Mojo. Coming To America (Eddie Murphy's funniest film) and Crocodile Dundee 2 (because you both enjoyed the first one) are perfect to have in your back pocket when you need to call an audible.

Laura Thornley

Its never stated, but there's a common understanding that this movie is set in another parallel timeline/universe where things went... less well, let's say.

Dan M
>>147856376

Consider it done. I always watch the YouTube edits once they’re available. I want to do my part in helping out Cassie and this channel.

Richard Maurer
>>147879270

I get it but if it's going affect her own reaction maybe just have Carly sit out movies like this? I'm hoping she'll sit out Deadpool 2, but it doesn't look like she 's going to. I normally enjoy Carly being there with Cassie, so this is nothing against her, but the fact is there are movies that Carly doesn't handle well that Cassie can, and Cassie ends up worrying about her sister instead of the movie. Better for both of them if Carly sits out movies like this.

Jacob King

This movie is a tough watch but I don’t think it’s a redemption arc. Wolverine at the start of the movie is already a hero, he’s been an X-man, he’s killing himself caring for Charles and has lost everything to do the right thing. What Laura offers him is the chance to let go, to put down his burden, as his daughter she can go on for him and he can finally find rest. James Mangold is the absolute master of the Dad Movie. You’ve already seen Ford vs Ferrari and now Logan so I recommend Walk The Line or the seriously great and seriously underrated Copland for future Mangold reactions. Dafne Keen is also great in the His Dark Materials TV series.

Richard Maurer
>>147888355

Yeah I pretty much agree. But I'm glad they watched it, or glad Cassie did anyway. Carly probably should have sat this one out.

D5v5d

Love this movie 🎬

Chris Thom
>>147861607

Pretty depressing film. I've only seen it once, then never again. Sorry about your folks.

Richard Maurer
>>147876720

Joe , when it gets to the point where people are calling for you to be banned you may want to swallow your pride and delete this and apologize too. I'm normally against deleting comments but in this case I think it's warranted.

Laura Thornley
>>147889898

Yeah not everyone has the same tolerance for violence, and that's okay. The fact they are both willing to even watch is impressive - many people would hear "violent movie" and immediately refuse.

Brent Petty

I love Cassie's disappointed Mom voice. "Logan." "It's real to Laura, Logan." I was waiting for a "James 'Logan' Howlett!" from her at some point. I guess she was never mad enough to use the full name. :)

Korny

I’m not such a fan of this movie. It’s fine but not something I would rewatch. Congrats to those that enjoy it.

Larry Darrell

The film they were watching in the hotel, that had such an influence on the film, especially the final words, is called… Shane (1953) Shane is one of the Greatest Westerns of All-Time… right next to The Searchers (1956). It is a Must Watch. This was such an intense film. If you want to calm down with another James Mangold directed film, I recommend another of his, featuring the X-Men brothers of Wolverine and Sabretooth, Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber. Kate & Leopold (2001) Oh yeah, and it’s got Meg Ryan too ;-) And to get your heart pumping again, checkout another written and directed by Mangold… Cop Land (1997) Featuring Sylvester Stallone in one of his greatest acting roles.

Been on this ride since the opening night of Blade. Outside of a few nothing rises above a 3 star, there is next to no art or craft in them, just pulpy entertainment. Things put on screen to get butts in seats. They are the McDonalds hamburgers of movies; cheap, hastily made, for mass consumption. People can like McDonalds hamburgers, enjoy them and crave them, but are they good; no. Are they quality; No. They are just there. Internal to the MCU with the run starting with Iron Man, they exhibited some craft and care in the first four character movies, which was a positive and encouraging sign, then moved into mass production slog, with only glimpses of craft and care after. This is not saying you dont have to like them or enjoy them, i still enjoy them, but people should be honest not only about the food the are consuming but the media as well.

The MCU movies are an attempt to bring the comics to life, and in that they did a damn fine job. Trying to add a bunch of unnecessary baggage to them, trying to make them "relevant" or "artistic" by critics standards is meaningless as that would make into something they were never meant to be. Calling them fast food or amusement park rides is a subjective opinion, not a fact, and a superficial opinion at that.

Jon Johns

Hey, my 2¢ --> rarely do our heroes get a real hero's death. Cassie & Carly wanting everything to end on the highest, happiest point is fair, and common, but so many of us want that justified end. Ironman got his, Logan got his, and a few others in film, here & there.

Mike LL

I've never seen the sisters so stunned at the ending of a movie. A very heartfelt reaction and every one who sees it will appreciate the reaction very deeply.

Scott Macaulay

Thank you, Cassie and everyone else here in the comments. It is comforting in a way because It feels like we are alone when going through these things, in my case Parkinson's and Dementia respectively for my dad and mom. Stories like Logan are extremely important as hard as they are to watch to remind us we are not alone and there can be meaning in the suffering, and that we must go on.

I think Endgame itself is a good argument against what you said, Michael G. It was not a superhero movie at all. A spectacle, to be sure, but it was a genuine drama that tied up storylines that ran through, what, 20 movies? I might be wrong about the number, but that writing took crafting and skill.

Richard Maurer
>>147881892

It's fine not to like violent movies, as long you don't think you're better than those who do. Not saying that's your intent, but reading your comments makes me think you're flirting with the idea at least.

Brent Petty

Loved Carly's little 20th Century Fox drum solo at the start. :)

Cassie, Caliban is played by Stephen Merchant. You have seen him before as the tall creepy Gestapo agent that searches the house in JoJo Rabbit. And when you two react to Hot Fuzz (hint hint), you'll see him in a small role as the proud owner of a swan.

''About 18 percent of American teens have fatty liver disease. That’s like one out of every five. That disease, when I was a kid, only affected late-stage alcoholics who were elderly. Cancer rates are skyrocketing in the young and the old. Young adult cancers are up 79 percent, and one in four American women is on antidepressant medication, 40 percent of teens have a mental health diagnosis, 15 percent of high schoolers are on Adderall, and half a million children are on SSRIs. So, what’s causing this suffering? I’ll name two culprits. First and the worst is ultra-processed foods. Seventy percent of American children’s diet is ultra-processed, which means industrially manufactured in a factory. These foods consist primarily of processed sugar, ultra-processed grains, and seed oils. Laboratory scientists, many of whom formerly worked for the cigarette industry, which purchased all the big food companies in the 1970s and ‘80s, deployed thousands of scientists to invent new chemicals to make the food more addictive. And these ingredients didn’t exist a hundred years ago, humans aren’t biologically adapted to eat them. Hundreds of these chemicals are now banned in Europe. But they are ubiquitous in American processed foods'' - RFK Where's the lie?

Remember in The Wolverine, Yukio tells Logan that she saw him on his back, blood everywhere, holding his own heart in his hand. It came true. He died on his back, covered in blood, holding his daughters hand.

Michael G
>>147875456

It was exactly a superhero movie, one that suffered under the weight of what it was trying to do, the aforementioned wrapping up of 20 movies. The story was weak, and fell apart under any thought. It was a spectacle that was more concerned about the nostalgia of it all than it was about crafting a narrative film.

>>147875456

There is no "unnecessary baggage" Entering the medium that is film means stepping up, not settling for some lowest common denominator. They are mostly above bad, though there are a good number, but overall they are just mid. Elevate your material, as Logan does and a few other movies attempt and for portions do. They are exactly "fast food or amusement park rides" is what they are, there is nothing wrong at all in that, or in calling them out for being that. It does not take away from peoples enjoyment of them. No one is saying McDonald's is the highest peak, the best representation of a hamburger, and that is okay. It always amazing how sensitive people get with the MCU, like someone killed their cat the second you offer any mild criticism. They do not need anyone coming to their defence, as it goes "that is what the money is for"

Richard Maurer
>>147881892

No problem. I'm probably a little overly sensitive on the subject having been on the receiving end of quite few comments where my taste in films was looked down upon.

Phil Stubblefield
>>147874395

And for me, "..no soft and sanitized PG-13 violence .... raw, gritty and at times unpleasant" made the movie very *unsatisfying* for me. To each, his or her own. (And, as clarified in another thread, this is a stylistic judgement, not a moral one.)

John Drake

Ohhhh Fetch! Poor Hugh Jackman hasn't been able to have carbs for about 15 years - have mercy on him Cassie!

JAKH

- Logan is being poisoned by his adamantium, not food additives. - The food additives are preventing new mutations, not affecting existing mutants. That is why no new mutants have been born in 25 years. - Laura is not Logan's natural daughter. She is a clone of Logan with two X-chromosomes instead of his XY, making her female. - In "The Wolverine" Yukio said that she saw Logan dying with his 'heart' in his hand. In "Logan" he died holding Laura's hand. James Mangold directed both movies.

JAKH

One of the Reavers ("Bone Breaker") who got slashed by Laura was the same actor who threw John Wick off of the upper floor in the nightclub in "JW 1".

Not really being sensitive about it. You keep insisting that they're all superficial films and seem to expect that we should just go along with your opinion. Well several people here don't and you repeating the same opinion multiple times isn't going to change my mind, and I doubt it will change anyone else's.

Dean Holt

This is probably the reaction I was expecting to be honest, but I’m glad they could appreciate the film for what it was. I definitely think it’s one of the best made comic book movies and it was a crime Mr Stewart didn’t get a Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. I also thought the film should have gotten several more nods. But unfortunately they normally look down on comic book movies and Sci-Fi in general along with a few other genres. But as much as I really like the movie it’s not really one of my favourites as this was only my 3rd watch since seeing it in the cinema. If I had to rank all the comic book movies this would probably be around 10th place. But we just have two left know assuming you’re not watching New Mutants (which I think a little underrated tbh). But I’m actually interested to see what your going to make of Dark Phoenix, I personally seriously had lots of issues with it on my first and only watch. so it’s going to be an interesting re-watch for me as well 😂.

A well made movie but way too depressing an end of these characters. P.s. Please tell me Cassie has said she's going to watch X-Men: Dark Phoenix? Was expecting her to mention it in the outro so I'm hoping she's replied to a comment to confirm instead. 🙏

Cole Jennett
>>147971360

She has not confirmed. I think a lot of people are telling her she doesn’t need to watch it or The New Mutants so she can get to Deadpool & Wolverine quicker to avoid spoilers. I’m fine with her doing Dark Phoenix because it’s the same cast as the previous movies, but I think it’s a pretty terrible movie. There really is no need that I can see for her to do The New Mutants at all.

Cole Jennett

Agree on the tv series. But Cassie & Carly absolutely MUST watch Dark Phoenix. I don’t think my OCD could stand it if they watched all of the movie but one. P.s. I’m in no rush for them to watch Deadpool & Wolverine. Can’t watch the full reaction until the movie gets released on streaming or blu-ray anyway.

Cole Jennett
>>147971360

I suspect she will watch it, but there wouldn’t be anything ruined if she put it off until after the Deadpool movies. Were you thinking The New Mutants was a tv series? Sorry, you confused me a bit with that part?

Luke Godfrey

I did but just checked IMDb and I see it’s a movie not tv series. I haven’t seen it but I might have to rethink that decision.

“So this is what this feels like,” he said. He wasn’t talking about dying. He was talking about feeling love and being loved. Like Charles said, what life is like, for families out there. I love this movie. It makes me cry every time. It’s sad and horrible and depressing and everything, but sometimes I need that.

Victor

The film is based on a comic series “Old Man Logan” where he accidentally kills all of the X-men which is what they kept alluding to in the film Also dark phoenix is probably one of the worst movies you’ll ever watch 😂

Clarence Newman
>>147981975

Cassie has great respect for other people's opinions of the movies she watches, so it's unlikely she'll hate it. If, when she's picking her kids up from school, one of them were to say "This girl's my friend, and him and her and her and him, but that boy over there is a big gross smelly and no-one likes him," Cassie's response would be "Wait here a minute. He needs chocolate and a hug and I'm inviting him to Sunday dinner." Which is to say that she'll probably watch it anyway, and enjoy it regardless.

Phillip D Piris

The adamantium is poisoning Logan, the food was essentially just acting as a vaccine and preventing new mutants from being born.

Phillip D Piris

Also you should think of Logan as a stand alone movie with the X-Men movies being the context but not the direct history

Doug Fisher
>>147881892

Sooo... you were expecting a Wolverine movie without "raw brutal violence"?! Up until this point audiences have seen the neutered/tamed version of Logan. "Raw brutal violence" IS the world of Wolverine. That "raw brutal violence" and "near complete disregard for humanity" for two centuries is the primary source of Logan's pain, guilt, and nightmares. This movie exposed and depicted that wonderfully. Not every movie is "You've Got Mail"... thankfully.

John A

Finally here. Just started watching. I have a suggestion for you two. Once the movie starts, you need to put like a piece of cardboard between you. Phil Stubblefield

I think you read John.A’s message in a different way to me, and presumably to how he wrote and intended it. The whole feel of Logan is so different to what has gone before and most here would have known/suspected how it was going to be taken by Cassie & Carly but eagerly anticipated and enjoyed the shock (and dare we say Horror) that came from it. That was the point being made and once again C&C didn’t disappoint 🙂

PickettsChargingPort

Yeah, this one is rough. It’s an extremely well done film, but it’s not happy and certainly not an ‘x-men’ movie. It draws inspiration from the comic ‘Old Man Logan’ as well as the origin story for X-23 (Laura) which is made of two six issue comics “innocence lost” and target x. None of those books are happy, but are all very good. James Mangold was crossing the genres of super hero, or anti-hero in this case, and the westerns. Most of us who saw it in the theater were prepared because of the two trailers that came out beforehand. Coming into this completely blind… Yeah, that’s gut punch. Still, I enjoyed your reactions, though I wish it hadn’t made you so uncomfortable at times.

PickettsChargingPort
>>148028784

Honestly, I think they picked up on things quite well. They even caught the quick bit on the radio about the x-men getting killed by Charles. That’s easy to miss if you aren’t paying attention. What’s even more impressive is they caught it while trying to keep us entertained with their reactions. Personally, I quite like when they watch the movies together.

PickettsChargingPort
>>148026002

Are ANY of them in their direct history? But, yes. Mangold even said as much. spoiler seriously redacted for some movies in the future.

PickettsChargingPort
>>147934266

While it’s technically correct that Laura is not Logan’s daughter, but rather a clone whose gender was changed, She considers him her father in the comics. She also considers her own clone, Gabby, her sister.

Wolverine's Life History for this timeline (Tried my best to make things fit together) Origin (1832 to 1845) Alberta, Canada a baby James Howlett (Logan) is born on 1832 to parents Elizabeth and John Howlett. In 1845 John Howlett is killed by Thomas Logan triggering James mutation. James kills Thomas Logan, revealed to be his biological father, James runs away and takes up the name Logan. Wars (1861 to 1975) Logan fights in the American Civil War on the side of the Union. Decades later Logan fights for the U.S. Army during the first world war. Logan participate in the 1944 D-Day Invasion and a year later transfers to the Pacific theater, imprisoned in a Japanese POW camp near the Japanese city of Nagasaki. August 9th 1945 James Howlett is caught in the Nagasaki bombing. Decades later Logan would take part in the Vietnam War. Before the X-Men: (1962 to 1980s) In X-Men: First Class, set in 1962 Logan is shown in a bar living his best life. Small little cameo. Logan is captured by Stryker in 1973 at the end of Days of Future Past but it's revealed to be Raven. Sometime after this Logan is captured off screen by the real Stryker to be used in the Weapon Plus program. He becomes Weapon X and goes on missions for Stryker's Team X with no memory of his past life thanks to his memory being wiped. Wolverine escapes Stryker's facility in 1983 with the help of Scott, Jean, and Nightcrawler. He Murders Rice's Father, and a bunch of Stryker's men. After his escape Essex Corp takes his DNA and Alkali Transigen uses this to create the X-23 program we see in Logan. Logan travels to Japan, inspired by his solo run from the 1980s that would go on to inspire The Wolverine. This one is just a theory as we see a katana in Logan's room. The X-Men (2000s to 2020) Logan makes his way to The X-Men during the 2000s similar to what we see in the original film. Charles mentions the Statue of Liberty in Logan (2017). Logan replying with "That was a long time ago" implying that events similar to the first film happened. So we can safely say that Wolverine made his way to the X-Men, became an X-Men and helped them take down Magneto. Logan falls for Jean, search's for information about his past and goes on many adventures with the X-Men for the next two decades. By the year 2024 the X-Men are doing fine, showcased during the end of Days of Future Past, until we reach 2028. Charles Xavier experiences a telepathic seizure, lost control of his powers and causing six hundred people to be injured and the deaths of several members of the X-Men. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters closes down, Charles Xavier's brain is declared a "weapon of mass destruction", leading to Logan and Charles going on the run to Mexico. The Events of Logan - 2029

Carly Popcorn

At some point someone said "Logan will break them..." and it got close!! hahah

Morgan A. Colbert

Yeah this one isn't fun, but was a good topper, like a serious saving kids and Wolverine is our dad type of moment incase you wanted a serious goodbye type of movie. You sorta have to consider X-men in the same way movies like Spiderman No Way Home are, it's all much bigger then one story, comic book writers were always coming up with new adventures and you need reasons why things might happen differently, for every Wolverine that has a terrible day, there might be a dozen wolverines who had a mediocre day, and one wolverine who had a great day and made heart eyes at Jean Grey. It's sorta hard to get your head around but you can decide what you want to believe and what makes you feel better, like the end of Days of Future Past might be something you want to make your cornerstone.

Anthony V Petty

Just my opinion, but I would have saved this for last. I understand they wanted to watch in release order however this far more gritty and realistic than a comic book portrayal. It’s not just one of the best comic book movies but MOVIE period. The timeline is so skewed in these series that it diminishes the overall narrative and enjoyment. Also, I would suggest Cassie watch the Loki series before Deadpool 3 for relevance, if she has not do so already.

DreBone1986

Yeah this was the first Marvel film to break everybody, I remember tears in my eyes and the entire theater at multiple times for multiple reasons and sniffling right on cue. It's incredibly great in a year of incredibly good Marvel films and was the first time Marvel was snobbed for the Oscar for best screenplay adaptation, this was their first nomination ever or the first to make the world pay attention to them as serious film making and not always comic books the same way Superman and later Batman did for DC decades before
