The beginning of the end... I so wanted to love this movie, especially after Days of Future Past, but it wasn't quite there, and on subsequent rewatches it got worse if anything. Such a shame the way everyone involved in this version of the X-Men just seemed to quickly get over it and just be done with these movies.

William Brownlee

Apocalypse is the kind of villian that like Thanos needed to be slowly introduced and built up over a series of movies, but you didn't do that back then. The writing tries to cram a story that was years in the telling in the comics down to 2 hours. Just can't be done. The entire movie is a mess as is Dark Phoenix. These should just be forgotten. Hope the MCU reintroduction is handled much better. But still have some fear.

Brad Enervold

You guys need to see Logan also. Great movie.

Ria Grix

I liked these young X-Men guys, they looked super cool at the end. Just a shame that this run of movies was coming to an end and things all a bit wobbly story wise. Rather than try and tie everything together with other future past versions, it would’ve been better to just re-boot with these actors. I hope that now they have all this multiverse-a-rama going on, we’ll just get a fresh start with a bunch of cool new X-Men.

Taran Gingery

I'd definitely recommend watching Logan before you watch Deadpool 2, as there are heavy spoilers for Logan in it.

Chris Thom

The colors really pop in this one. Curious what kind of filter they used during (or after?) filming. Feels like a super vivid comic strip.

It also didn’t help the characterization that the actor playing Apocalypse is under six feet tall while the character stands 7 feet. When I saw the movie in theaters I wondered at first “Who’s that little guy?” If they can use camera tricks, forced perspective, etc, to make hobbits appear three feet tall for more than 10 hours in the Lord of the Rings movies, surely they could manage to make Apocalypse look bigger and more imposing for two hours.

Happy Hanukkah

24:00 "Stop talking like that!" Well, it seems only fair he should get his chance... :-) :-P

August 29 is Judgment day! We didn´t get Terminator 3 but we got APOCALYPSE

Author Travis Adams Irish

The villain sucks here. It's a common problem with writers who don't embody the villain. When the story progression is more "and then" than "because," You get these empty sequences that feel like an expensive TV commercial. Can't wait for Logan, it's a way better story.

Stranger2Reality

Cassie, in your opening you said from the X-Men movies you just had this, Deadpool 2, Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine left, but unfortunately you also have Dark Phoenix in there as the real end of these X-Men movies. That one is really bad and sufficiently killed the franchise, so it's no big loss if you skip it, but it actually is the last we ever see of these characters. There's also The New Mutants, which was a horror movie that didn't star any characters from any of these movies and which barely anyone saw and even fewer liked, but that one is basically almost not cannon. You probably also should watch the most recent Doctor Strange movie (in the Multiverse of Madness), although to explain why would be spoiling things. I fear you're going to miss a ton of stuff when you finally get around to Deadpool & Wolverine, but there's honestly too many older Marvel movies you'd have to go back and watch to get all the references and characters, and I'm guessing you don't want to do that. Even if you do though, there's a lot of other stuff that's really more film nerd Inside Baseball kind of stuff (like old casting rumors and film production issues) that probably went over most fans' heads anyway, so no big deal if you don't catch every reference. Just know there's gonna be sections of that movie where you may feel like "it seems like I'm supposed to know who these characters are but I don't remember them."

Richard Maurer
>>147956683

Apocalypse was also very broad, like the Hulk or Thanos, and like them should have been a CGI character. CGI does have it's place, and characters like Apocalypse are one of those places. He just wasn't imposing at all, unlike in the comics.

Joe

FYI Cassie, your Letterbox link on YT is broken.

Stan the Man

Man. What a waste of a great villain. Apocalypse here looks so lame. For some reason the X-Men movies have always looked and felt cheaper than the other big marvel titles. I guess that’s Fox for you since Fantastic Four also looked super cheap. Apocalypse should have been a Thanos type villain. CGI and huge. It’s the same with Beast. Beast looks like a blue Wolfman here. He needs to be muscular, nimble, leaping on all fours. Not some blue food colouring and a furrowed brow. Also, why does Mystique’s make up look so bad in these last two movies? It looks like blue grease paint instead of part of her skin. The way this movie shoe horns Wolverine in is so lazy and bad. That sequence of getting captured and going to Canada changed nothing. When you can eliminate a major 15 minute set piece without losing any story or character moments, you’ve built your story on bad foundation Anyways I’ve always felt these movies were a step behind the other comic book movies from an action and budget POV. like the Mansion attack in X2. That should have been a huge set piece. We get a couple quick shots of students powering up and that’s about it.

Richard Maurer
>>148015862

Agree, especially about Apocalypse being CGI. They probably just figured makeup would be cheaper.

Bryan Fritchie

You're going to need to watch the Blade trilogy and Daredevil/Electra movies before you keep going on too far in your Marvel / MCU adventure.

Bryan Fritchie
>>147993555

There's really only five movies they need to go back and watch before Deadpool and Wolverine. (Blade Trilogy, and Deadpool / Electra movies.

Stranger2Reality
>>148015862

I think Mystique's makeup looked so bad because Jennifer Lawrence didn't want to spend all day in the makeup chair anymore. That's also why she's often just herself rather than in her blue form. I think the people working on these movies just lost their interest in making them and that's a big part of why the quality went downhill so badly.

Stranger2Reality
>>148027907

She also needs to watch season one of Loki and The Fantastic Four, unless she's already seen them.

Richard Maurer
>>147993555

Do they really to watch more than the first Blade movie? or just the Affleck Daredevil movie? Let's not burden them with a lot of unnecessary movies. it will be much easier to get them to watch two movies instead of five.

Stranger2Reality
>>147993555

She could probably get away with just watching Blade, Daredevil, The Fantastic Four and season one of Loki. Ryan Reynolds is in Blade Trinity, and there's a quick reference to that, but it's just one quick line, and not really worth suffering through that poor movie just for that, especially if she's already gonna suffer through DD and FF.

Richard Maurer
>>147993555

Yeah, they can add the FF movie to that list, but that's enough. Cassie's movie watching time is too valuable to waste on garbage sequels. And she watched Loki, season 1 at least.

Stranger2Reality
>>147993555

Agreed. I'd say she's fine just not knowing who DD, Electra and Johnny Storm are rather than having to sit through those movies. At least Blade was good though, so that one is worth seeing.

Richard Maurer
>>147993555

Yeah, no problem with the first Blade, wanted her to watch it anyway, in fact. The sequels I can do without though.

Chris Thom
>>148015862

I think the budgets may've been steadily decreasing as well. After Days of Future Past at least.

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

I would have enjoyed D&W just as much if I had only seen the first Blade, Daredevil and FF movies. You don't need to see every detail from all those sub-par sequels just for a few short moments of screentime in Deadpool and Wolverine. And 10 movies is over 3 WEEKS on Cassie's channel - big waste of time.

Mike Lemon
>>148027907

Buffy has fewer YouTube views than anything on either side of it other than Venom 2. Of course, it is still season 1. Once she gets to the three Dark Willow episodes in season 6, I may have to watch though. Maybe the vamp-Willow too.

V M

Can Cassie please watch Loaded Weapon 1 from 1993? That movie is hilarious. It's even got people in it she loves.

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

Her first Buffy video is at 66k, her second is at 43k. if you look at her videos those are in the ballpark of what most of her videos do. And more importantly, Ashleigh herself said it was doing well for her in her last buffy reaction. In general she doesn't do PiB type numbers, so I'm sure these numbers are good to her.

Bryan Fritchie
>>148027907

Most importantly, Ashleigh is enjoying watching it. I never got into Buffy, so I probably won't watch those. But I'm not opposed to her watching them just because I'd prefer her to watch something else. I'm not that selfish.

Mike Lemon
>>148027907

And the videos to either side of the first Buffy were 80,000 and 70,000- close-ish, but still more than Buffy. But like I said, it's the first season, which isn't that good.

Cole Jennett
>>148027907

No, she doesn’t “need” to watch anything else besides Deadpool 2 (she’s already seen Logan) to enjoy Deadpool & Wolverine. She’s not going to watch a bunch of series’ so a couple cameo’s don’t go over her head.

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

@Bryan Fritchie - You know , saying it's selfish not to want Cassie to watch these movies because I want something else can easily be turned back on you, right? I can say you're selfish for wanting to take up Cassie's time watching something that other people here clearly do not want. It works both ways. Truth is we all have agendas here, we're all trying to get Cassie to watch the stuff we want and avoid the stuff we don't, because she can only watch so much.

Bryan Fritchie
>>148027907

I'm saying she should watch these movies - some of which aren't even the best movies - so that she can fully understand and enjoy all of the references like the rest of us get to do. Not to mention some of them would have helped with Dr Strange, and will also help with future MCU movies. You're saying she shouldn't watch these movies because you don't like them. But I am the selfish one? 🤣

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

Have you actually read any of my posts? I'm saying they are not important enough movies that she needs to see every one of them. It's hard to say exactly why without spoilers, but let's say the "reasons" for watching them before D&W are on screen for a couple of minutes - at most. All she needs to know about those "reasons" can be had by watching 3 films. Other people here are saying she doesn't need to see any of them at all, at least I'm okay with 3. And while we're talking about being selfish do you really think those sequels are going to do well on YT for Cassie? They're not exactly popular you know. Even you are admitting that some (I'd say most) of them aren't very good. Why do you want her to watch bad movies? Cassie only has so much time and you want her to waste it on watching bad movies that most people here don't even want to see, just so she can have the "full experience" or whatever. Sorry but that seems odd to me.

Bryan Fritchie
>>148027907

What you find important and what I find important can be different, correct? Ex: I think Blade 3 is VERY important because of a certain relationship. I also think part of the brilliance of D&W is what it did for ALL those Fox movies. I'm the one that said she should create a poll and let people decide which ones to watch. I also didn't even say that they needed to be on the channel, only that I think she should watch them so that she's got the full context. Although I'd gladly watch her react to every single one of them.

rakesh
>>148027907

A minimum should be Blade 1 and Daredevil movie prior to watching Deadpool 3. A plus is Blade is simply a great movie.

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

@Bryan Fritchie - Well, obviously we can (and do) have different opinions. But none this really matters as it's highly unlikely to happen anyway. Cole Jennett said above that Cassie's not going to watch all these series and he's most likely correct. But instead of asking for 3 movies that would be manageable, you have to ask for them all, some of which you yourself admitted aren't very good, for some reason that escapes me. One of the biggest mistakes people make when asking reactors for something is they ask for way too much, without regard for whether the thing they're asking for would be popular or not. When I was asking for the classic horror poll I was asking for 1 poll, 1 time. Not a poll every month, or a poll where the top 10 highest vote getters get watched. And I hope Cassie does a poll , where the three choices are watch all the sequels, watch the 3 first movies, or watch none of them. I'm pretty sure watch all the sequels wouldn't win, but you never know.

V M
>>148049666

Yep. That's one of the people I was referring to.

Happy Hanukkah
>>148027907

IMHO: I respect D&W's intentions in this area, but the implementation was sorely lacking. At most, it plays into old-time fans' feelings of nostalgia and provides the most minimal closure, but there's no payoff to cramming the old movies other than: "Hey, it's that guy from that movie." Again, my opinion.

Bryan Fritchie
>>148027907

I pretty much figured that anyway, and I'm not really excited for the D&W reaction because of that. I bet we hear at least five or six times (maybe more), "am I supposed to know him/her", or something along those lines. But at least I put it out there in the hopes that we get the best possible reaction.

Mario
>>148027907

I've only ever seen the first Blade movie and I still understood and enjoyed DP & W. I don't think a reaction to the entire Blade trilogy or the random Daredevil / Elektra movie(s) is needed. As for movies that won't get a lot of views on Youtube, I think Cassie has said she will watch movies she wants to watch regardless how well it does on YT. So the idea that people need to think only suggest films that will generate clicks for the channel is kind of pointless. If Cassie isn't going to pay much attention to those kind of things, then it stands to reason that we shouldn't either.

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

@Mario - I think when Cassie's saying she will watch the movies she wants she means on occasion, not 10 movies in a row. Anyway I don't think we should be taking advantage of Cassie's good nature too often by pushing unpopular movies on her, this is her livelihood we're talking about. And if the movie are unpopular on YT, and unpopular with patrons, who exactly is she watching them for? Herself? She might as well do that on her own time.

Mario
>>148027907

I think it's seven movies at most. Five if it's only the Blade trilogy (three movies) and the Daredevil / Elektra movies (one each). If you throw in the Fantastic 4 movies with Chris Evans, it's seven. Regardless, I still don't think a reaction to all of these films are necessary to enjoy DP & W. As for YT views and film popularity. We're here to suggest movies we think she'd enjoy or to expand her horizons towards movies she wouldn't normally watch, regardless if they're popular picks or not (and polls are going to weed out the popular picks from the unpopular picks anyways). And most of her money made from this isn't going to be from YT views anyways (as that pays very little).

YodatheHobbit
>>148049666

YES PLEASE! It blows my mind that people didn't like it at the time or bad reviews. I thought it was so funny as a kid, and now it's even funnier to me due to understanding jokes mature for me to understand back then.

Richard Maurer
>>148027907

@Mario - Brian said ten movies, I also only counted seven but since he was insisting on ten I went with his number. I don't know what the other 3 are. As for the "popular/unpopular" thing, I think you're missing my point. Asking for one thing that might not be popular now and then is fine, asking for 10 things or 7 things, unpopular or not, that have to be watched together, or within a certain time frame, is a good way to get ignored, and if those things are unpopular that just makes them more likely to be ignored. And as for YT views not being important, that's just wrong. It's not the money from views that makes them important. YT views are the engine that drives everything else. Views bring likes, subscribers to her channel, subscribers to patreon, advertisers, and cause YT itself to push her channel in the algorithm, continuing the cycle and bringing in the money. Views are the most important thing any YT channel can have, so asking for something less popular should never be done without remembering this.

Chris Thom
>>148049666

Damn totally forgot about those movies. Were those the ones with Charlie Sheen?

V M
>>148049666

I believe you're thinking of the hot shots movies, which I was going to recommend later. I like loaded weapon more than the hot shots movies.

Mario
>>148027907

I think you missed my point: Cassie, nor anyone else, needs to see those seven movies for their MCU adventure. If she, or anyone else, want to see those movies later (either as a reaction or off screen), after they are caught up with the MCU, they can. But they idea that they're "required" viewing to enjoy the latest MCU movie, doesn't hold water (I mean there's a reason why no one talks about the Daredevil / Elektra movies). Really, I think we're just talking about two different things.
