Well well well....an update

How are you my friends? I hope you had a great mothers day weekend. My bookclub went to Newport beach for the weekend and it was just what we all needed, it was incredible to have no responsibilities for 72 hours. We just beached and tacoed and talked until wee hours of the morning. I was also so happy to come home to my crew, I am so lucky to be a mom to such sweet kids, learned from the best too!

This week we have TLOU episode 5, Batman Returns (hold me) and A Monster Calls which was our April Pick a Flick Winner! Going to be good! Next week will be Kingdom of the POTA and TLOU. I think there will only be two uploads next week because someone we know is getting MARRIED! I have so much family coming into town and I am just so so excited to celebrate Carly and LOVE! Still don't have a dress ( I know no one cares about my dress haha) and my lips got burned to oblivion in California and look like a cordycep so fingers crossed I can get my ish together in time.

We had a pollception again. Looks like I'm finally watching BHC, its been teased for too long and it is time! I am going to poll the second place poll as well and do a "Based on True Events Poll" Yay! Thanks for all your comments and suggestions on that one-I love those movies as well, there were so many suggestions it might even need to be an A and B poll!

I am having to move our Patreon Pop Quiz Trivia until June, with the end of the school year tornado that is MAY and the wedding, it just is too insane! I promise we will all be able to more fully enjoy it in June-get studying ;)

If you want to check out this week's podcast-Carly and I were pretty bad at trivia in our new episode haha!

Love your guts,

Cassie

Batman Returns is excellent I think you'll be pleasantly surprised

Jaz 😁

Oh I'm suprised your doing Batman returns, as you and Carlie didn't really think much of the first one with Michael keaten

Ike

My 8 year old nephew, who is staying with us this week, is three feet away and watching my every move, wants to know why I am “…writing to someone named Popcorn?” I am being peppered with a thousand questions as I type this, so I’ll keep it short. 🤣 Happy Belated Mother’s Day, Ms. Popcorn!

Justin Frey

Can I suggest uploading your Batman (1989) reaction to YouTube as well (since it was never posted there), so people can see what, if any, evolution there is to your thoughts on the Burton Batmans?

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

If it's OK to ask you Cassie, why did we never see your reaction to Batman (1989)? Will there ever be a YouTube edit of it? No worries if not, it's your channel.

Above Average Dave

Congratulations and God Bless to Carly and her future spouseling! May they have a long, happy and healthy life together. FWIW, the three little rules we've adhered to provide (at least for us) much needed mutual support and understanding: - Love is a verb, not a feeling. - Don't go into a marriage thinking you can change the other person. We all change some, but overall, who you married is who you married. - Don't go to bed angry with each other. That's pure poison. That and Carly's husband will have to learn the golden rule: "She's always right."

Vincent Vega

I second this as I haven't seen that reaction either

CLisa

Congratulations on Carly’s wedding, wishing her and her fellow a long and happy, healthy marriage together

Joshua Campbell

After Batman Returns, I recommend Michael Keaton again in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Another Tim Burton movie to enjoy 😉.

MikeLL

It was more of an don't ask, don't tell situation. I did enjoy the reaction. I always do!

Clay F

Poll winner

Richard Maurer

Cassie, please for the love of all that’s good in this world, please skip watching Batman Forever (95) and Batman and Robin (97). If you do watch them you’ll probably never want to watch another Batman movie

Jaz 😁

Ah! Missed that bit. Also I realised I put Carlie instead of Carly!

MikeLL

Can't wait for the Batman Returns reaction! Should be epic. Justice should demand Carly sit in for the sequel, but we all understand she is . . . busy. Much Congratulations for the upcoming family celebrations and ceremonies!!

Mark White

Jared, if I remember rightly, They are not watching through choice! It may have been pulled out of a dvd bag or on a poll.

Ted Whalen

Congrats and best wishes for Carly. I am glad you had a good time in Newport Beach (Newport Beach is the 2nd best beach in CA, right behind Manhattan Beach). It is probably a good idea to do an A and B poll for the Real Life/Event movies.

Milton Reduxed

It must be a blue moon, I agree with Richard

Jaz 😁

I know, I got confused as some creators say there watching such and such by choice, I forgot this was a poll. Because at first I was thinking huh they didn't really like the first one but then someone told me it won the poll lol

Robert Jewell

Just watched A Monster Calls yesterday to get ahead of your reactions. It was terrific. Best Wedding Wishes to Carly (although I'm the eensiest bit heartbroken 😊😄) Watched War Apes last week and got Kingdom to go. I definitely have rated them from worst to best, one more to go. And really want you to do another HITCHCOCK triple poll. Ok, best wishes. You are definitely busy.

Richard Maurer

Milton - Must be nice for you to be right about something for a change. ;-)

Brian Wood

Congratulations to Carly. Glad everything is alright in your world. Thank you for Batman Returns. Though kinda wish it got hold off until Christmas 🎄. Lol

Rick Rodriguez

Does Spartacus count as based on true events?

Jake McNulty

First of all my congratulations to Carly. All the best to her and her husband-to-be. Looking forward to the "Based on True Events" poll. If it's alright with you I would like to recommend a few titles: Bonnie and Clyde (1967) A Bridge Too Far (1977) Midnight Express (1978) Gandhi (1982) Cry Freedom (1987) The Last Emperor (1987) Mississippi Burning (1988) Born on the Fourth of July (1989) Lorenzo's Oil (1992) In The Name of The Father (1993) Fly Away Home (1996) Sleepers (1996) Amistad (1997) Donnie Brasco (1997) FairyTale: A True Story (1997) Seven Years in Tibet (1997) The Pianist (2002) The Aeronauts (2019)

Richard Maurer

Rick - I can agree with the crazy part.

Shehab Dawoud

Congratulations to Carly! About Batman Returns, I'm not sure that you'll exactly like it, because it is quite dark and filled with adult humor. But I think that you'll find the story better than Batman 89. 89 is historic and groundbreaking, but the plot and the characters are nowhere near fleshed out enough. This has better characters, with clearer motivation and arc, and a better romance. And now you know what to expect having seen 89.

Mark White

Could George Clooneys Batman be a Guilty pleasure? Or is it just Guilty of something?’ 😆

Richard Maurer

Mark - George Clooney is guilty of appearing in a Joel Schumacher Batman film after seeing what Val Kilmer had to work with.

Milton Reduxed

Weird to be a watching a Christmas movie in May though

MikeLL

I absolutely plan to heavily rec Forever in Returns comments. She has come this far, might as well go all the way to crazytown. Forever was a massive hit when it came out. Plus its got Val Kilmer as Batman!

Chris Thom

Of course it does. And the porno aspect is just historical accuracy with extra sauce.

Richard Maurer

I will be there Mike, to do my best to put a stop to this madness.

Bill W

3 of my all-time favorite films are on this list.... and I'm betting none of them will make the top 3. 😀

Dean Holt

Really hope everything goes smoothly for the big wedding. A Monster Calls will be a first watch for me, I also think you might like Batman Returns more as it has a little bit more of a serious tone. Also very happy you’re finally watching BHC because imo it’s Eddie Murphys best film, I also think the second one is just as good. But here are some fun movies suggestions for based on true events poll. The Last StarFighter, ok this might not have happened but you can’t fault me for trying… but this will happen one day 😂😂. Tag (2018) Fighting with My Family Cocaine Bear Fanboys Kelly’s Heroes You’ll have to trust me the last two definitely happened. Especially the last one you just never heard about it because it was a big cover-up.

JPDotCom23

Yaaaaay, can't wait for the 'Batman Returns' reaction. It's worth noting that Annette Bening was, initially, cast as Selina Kyle/ Cat Woman but had to drop out because she was pregnant.

Mark White

Cassie, I’m so glad you had a good time away, i nice little break is exactly what you needed. You need to do it more often! It sounds like things are going to get a little crazy in the next few weeks! My advice is to try and stand back and take it in, especially on Carly’s big day. What with all the family there is bound to be hectic. These family moments are precious and will never come again. Enjoy! Great line up, as always. As for BHC, I like it and its sequel! But, don’t get too excited. It a fun movie, which has that 80’s vibe and lots of laughs, but it’s not going to knock your socks off special. As for true events poll: I said it many times but “The Insider” Al Pacino and Russel Crowe in particular gives a great performance. It’s a Really good true story. You are the best Cassie ❤️

Richard Maurer

I hear you bill. When I go through the top 50 films on Popcorn Requests my most common thought is “Really? That movie’s in the top 50?

Chris Thom

Congrats Carly. Don't forget to livestream the wedding...you promised! Or maybe you didn't I can't remember such details. I'm not a stenographer. Also what gives with not letting us vote on the fiancé in a poll? Not to be a stickler but Based on True events is actually leading the Polception right now! Has been for like nine hours or so. Cautiously looking forward to the Batman Returns reaction. I think I'm excited for that for purely nostalgia-based reasons. But also woefully prepared for Cassie and sister to tag team spit on the necks of our childhood again. Because resilience is a virtue. Happy wedding!

Mike Lemon

No need to put Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) on the true events poll. We all know it is the best movie, just watch it then poll for second place.

Chris Thom

Oh boo. Kubrick sucks at sex scenes.

Chris Thom

Do you live in SoCal? Have always been curious which beach has the best sand. Or if it's all the same on the coast down there.

Dean Holt

Ice to see you Richard, I also bet you never leave home without you Bat credit Card 😂😂.

Chris Thom

i feel like they owe us a positive review...but that's such a weird demand when I think of it. lol

Chris Thom

I don't think she will. She likes having as many subscribers as she does. lol

Chris Thom

Make sure to explain reaction videos in a way that doesn't sound utterly insane. lol

Chris Thom

She's been forced into it by democracy.

Justin Frey

She’s uploaded reactions to movies she hasn’t liked before, lol. And, Batman is a popular movie, it’ll draw views for sure

Richard Maurer

Dean - With that kind of dialog the writers would have almost been good enough to write for the 60’s TV series.

Chris Thom

Plus ten for The Insider.

Ike

Oh gosh, no. LOL. Distraction, subterfuge, on-demand cartoons, and tactical waffles still works at this age. 😄

TheSingulatarian

I hope you like "Batman Returns" a bit better than the 1st in this series. It is a Christmas movie. So, Christmas in May?

Chris Thom

Michelle Pfeiffer is a trip in it. She might appreciate that now that she knows her better. Or maybe not. Who knows.

Larry Darrell

She should surprise Carly at her bachelorette party with a viewing of Batman Returns, and record that reaction. :-)

Mark White

Not enough people have watched The McMartin Trial or even heard of it! It just wouldn’t win a poll Mike, which is such a shame. Cassie, I agree with Mike, just watch it! It’s one of those movies which has slipped under most peoples radar. It’s just got that kinda of story you will get sucked into. I defiantly recommend it for you Cassie.

Chris Thom

I brought it up in a chat once and a mod straight up told me to STOP. Lol. It's like a dirty channel secret.

TheSingulatarian

Tell him "Cassie Popcorn is the Empress of the Internet and must be communicated with daily or your eyebrows will fall off."

Mark White

Lorenzo’s Oil, it would never win a poll, but I think Cassie would love it.

Chris Thom

True. But it's kind of considered iconic in a way a lot of other movies aren't. I think the channel keeps it off for PR.

TheSingulatarian

I appreciate your enthusiasm but maybe take it down to a 7. You are at 11 right now and it is getting weird.

Chris Thom

She is kind of a sorceress when you think about it.

Larry Darrell

I hear you Richard. Which is why she needs to start going through the Top 50 faster, instead of holding on to them. Most of them are not the greatest films ever made, and many will probably be underwhelming after all the hype of being the most requested films. This should give a great surge in views if it’s needed as well. And it will get more better films higher on the list sooner. Such as… Picking 3 from the list… Bonnie and Clyde (1967) A Bridge Too Far (1977) Donnie Brasco (1997)

Ted Whalen

Chris- I lived in Manhattan Beach for five years, but decided to move back to the Washington DC area to be closer to my family (I am still wondering what happened to my view of the Santa Monica Bay). My experience is that the South Bay beaches (Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo) and the Orange County beaches (Laguna, Seal, San Clemente, Newport) have pretty similar sand (you cant go wrong with any of these beaches).

Richard Maurer

Mike - True, it’s just like how Horror of Dracula is the best horror movie and doesn’t need to be on a poll. Cassie should just watch it already.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

On the subject of Batman Returns (1992), in 2023, Lego released the Batcave Shadowbox; a 4000 piece model of the Tim Burton Batcave with minifigures of Batman, Bruce Wayne, The Penguin, Catwoman, Alfred and Max Shreck. I am a proud owner of this model, I've got photos of it finished on my Instagram (jonrwilliams84)! Lego have retired it now after just one year, and existing unopened sets sell for almost double on Ebay! https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/batcave-shadow-box-76252

Art Vandalaay

Glad you enjoyed your break… etc… Good luck Carly and Whatshisname…etc, etc.... Movie poll this, movie poll that…… BUT….Just watch City Slickers will ya. Please. Pretty please…with a cherry on top?? 😂❤️

Cole Jennett

The comments on Patreon were awful, consider how much worse they will be on YouTube.

Chris Thom

Haven't seen Midnight Express in decades. Might be nice to have an excuse to watch that again.

Justin Frey

I didn’t see the Patreon comments (before my time here), but that is disappointing. Even if she hated it, everyone is entitled to their opinions on art, even if we disagree with them. No need to get hurtful or angry about it.

Chris Thom

My friend had a shack in Newport. Like a literal shack among super swank homes. It was kind of strange. But super nice location and area. I have great memories of the place. Laguna was fun because we knew every inch of it from that hit tv show back in the day. Hoping to go back down this summer. Planning now.

Chris Thom

Lol. The side-eyes would be epic.

Rick Rodriguez

Dang it, Chris. It's not for the sex scenes! And what about 2001?!? That's hot stuff.

Joe J

I don't think many patrons bother to use the app and upvote. Good movies with 5 votes, lol. I don't see Cassie ever venturing out beyond 250 anyway. A flawed tool.

Dan M

“Somebody’s getting married?” “Somebody’s getting married!” 🎶 “Somebody’s getting, somebody’s getting, somebody’s getting, somebody’s getting…” 🎶 🎶 “Somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody..,” 🎶 🎶 “Somebody get some flowers Somebody get a ring Somebody get a chapel And a choir to sing Somebody get an organ to playyyy… Cause somebody’s getting married in May!” 🎶 So happy for you Carly!!!

Stick Figure Studios

I may be too late on this, but before screening BATMAN RETURNS, I would recommend watching one of the old 1960s Adam West BATMAN TV show episodes (or the 1966 movie based on the show) to provide you with some context for what the Tim Burton films were responding to. I still think that not knowing just how campy Batman was generally considered in pop culture (though not to the comic book readers) in the 1980s would have helped better inform your experience of the '89 film and perhaps made for a more enjoyable reaction. Curious what you will think of the sequel. Also, really looking forward to your reaction to A MONSTER CALLS. It's a gem of a movie.

bknsty14

I’m going to throw Sleepers out there again for the based on a true story poll. Someday that one will be watched.

Gary Brown

Cassie, Congrats to Carly. I can tell ur such a great and loving mom. The mom in u comes out when u watch some of the movies. I definetly care about ur dress. u and Carly were so beautiful at the movie premiere. I hope u will watch all of the BHC movies. I love ur guts too, Cassie. See ya at the movies!

Dan M

So glad you had a great time with your Book Club, and that you were able to relax and unwind for Mother’s Day. We’re down in Florida this week. We’re sitting by the pool and just chilling today. I’m letting the sun recharge my batteries. Time off with the family is so precious and so needed. As much as I’ll hate leaving here, it’ll be nice to get back home for the weekend. And…I’ll have plenty of PiB content to catch up on!

Richard Maurer

It’s supposed to get a update “soon”

Shehab Dawoud

Michelle's performance is etched in cinema history. Like I said, I don't think she'll like it per se. But if she can notice the difference in quality between the two, that's good enough for me.

Dan M

I’ll take more enthusiasm please. There’s too much negativity in the world as it is.

Uncle Phoenix

Ok. While “Flight of the Intruder” (1991) with Danny Glover and Willem Defoe isn’t Exactly a “based on true events” film it is a historically accurate portrayal of A-6 pilots during the Vietnam War that was Written by an actual A-6 Pilot.

Larry Darrell

Agreed on watching the original Adam West Batman series from the 60s or Batman: The Movie (1966). It would help having that frame of reference for where Tim Burton was coming from. I plan to watch Batman ‘89 reaction soon, but I’ve always imagined the Museum scene with The Joker, had them scratching their heads. That tone was directly from the 60s Batman.

Joe J

I'll take any of the Batman movies....over say another rom-com, Lol. On a scale of 1-10, please describe your pain level? 😂

Dan M

As Nike would say…Just do it

Mark White

Richard, are you just saying “horror of Dracula” is the best? Like saying “you are the best” or are you saying it’s the best/Number 1 horror movie of all time, ever?!

Uncle Phoenix

Whenever people talk about clothes it always feels like Christian Bale talking about Genesis right before he starts swinging a bloody axe.

Dan M

Batman Returns should definitely be an interesting reaction.

Dan M

Here is another pitch for Eight Men Out to be included in the Based on True Events poll. Excellent cast and a great sports movie.

Chris Thom

The other day she literally described that scene when explaining why they weren't into it. lol

Chris Thom

My mom and sister do sound psychotic sometimes. God forbid they got a deal on something they're about to wear to a wedding.

Clarence Newman

Don't give us any of that "only two reactions cos Carly's getting married" hooey. We know you can react on the road and we want to see you and Carly, side by side, in the wedding dress and Maid of Honour gown, reacting to Vicky Cristina Barcelona. The drunker, the better, I say.

Anthony Carlson

Sounds like California was a good time for you! I only wish I can go somewhere to relax and recharge after working all the time! Myself? I got 4 Tigers games coming up so I’m looking forward to those. And I just bought furniture for my new house so it’s coming along now! And lastly, congratulations on Carly getting married! Here’s a quote from a literature author: “Something my dad says...He says you end up marrying the one you don't understand. Then you spend the rest of your life trying." —Frederik Backman, Anxious People

Clarence Newman

Definitely the Batman movie from '66. They don't need anything else.

Joe J

Richard, I will need some Advil for BHC, Lol.

Joe “Retroclassic” Pinney

Thank you for mentioning that “BHC” is an Eddie Murphy movie (I subsequently deduced that it’s BEVERLY HILLS COP (1984)), otherwise I would’ve been lost on the reference.

bgb1975 (Brian)

A few suggestions for a "based on true events" poll: "American Gangster" 2007 - Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe "A Beautiful Mind" 2001 - Russell Crowe "Escape from Alcatraz" 1979 - Clint Eastwood "Lean on Me" 1989 - Morgan Freeman

Mojo One Thousand

Watched the "Popcorn to Go" trivia episode on YT, and yeah Cassie, I was chuckle yelling at my TV for some of it. Mainly the Groundhog day - Andie McDowell one, and trying to give the McDonald clue... I was yelling the rip-off restaurant in "Coming to America" (it's "McDowell's")... and then "Coming to America" was the next question! My PAF selection for the last few months actually fits into the "Based on true events"... it's probably too late, and there's too many others, but it is "The Dish" (2000), about events surrounding the moon landing.

Joe “Retroclassic” Pinney

I would give real money if Cassie started constantly doing a Tony Curtis impression after seeing SPARTACUS (1960), dropping “I am Spottakiss” every other few minutes.

Chris Thom

Got one of them electric recliners coming? They're pretty neat.

Clarence Newman

Mark. Richard is speaking with forked tongue and puree'd mind. The Fly is clearly the greatest horror movie.

Anthony Carlson

I wish lol. But I bought a couch and a loveseat for now. I did look for a recliner, but none of them were enticing (and they didn’t match the carpet or the walls of my living room).

Mike Lemon

From down below??? Do a search on the name. He may not be able to "take it down".

Larry Darrell

@Chris - oh, wow that’s weird. She does need to see the original then. Not saying it’s going to make her like the films better, but it’ll help.

Paul Cox

omg thank you for mentioning The Dish. I've been trying to remember the name of that movie for like a year!

Anthony Carlson

I don’t want to take away from this uplifting post, but is there anyone here that has experience or knows someone who has a cochlear implant? For those who don’t know, I’m deaf (profound hearing loss) and last month, I went to my audiologist annual hearing checkup. Compared to 5 years ago, my audiologist told me my hearing has declined and being at my job (car factory) is contributing to it. In short, I’m slowly losing my hearing and I’m only in my early 30’s. She told me I’m a candidate for a cochlear implant. Anyway, does anyone has experience with one or knows someone who do? Just trying to weigh my options…

Clarence Newman

Though we always appreciate you sending us the old wubby-dub, Cassandra, I can't help thinking that "Love your guts" is something a Last of Us clicker would say.

Bill W

Joe i used the app when it was first created. I've only used it once since then, just to scroll through and look at the top 100.

Shehab Dawoud

Some based on true events films: Raging Bull (1980) The Elephant Man (1980) Awakenings (1990) Malcolm X (1992) Searching For Bobby Fischer (1993) Casino (1995) The Insider (1999) The Founder (2016) The Last Duel (2021) Air (2023) Killers of The Flower Moon (2023)

Patrick

Congrats on the wedding 🍾👏🏼

Mike Lemon

A Beautiful Mind is on the already watched list.

Chris Thom

My dad's friend had one. I don't know much about it though sorry. I just know they were rich as hell and could afford any trip, procedure, or pharmaceutical available. And I...took care of their house and dog while they were on their yacht. He got it around age 65. Dad's hearing also blows but he just blames us for not speaking loudly enough.

Mark White

Well, I only ask. Because I still haven’t seen it and if Richard is truly saying it’s the greatest ever horror?! Which is a BIG statement! Then I shall have no choice but to put it at the top of my to watch list. I was going to watch “The Champ” next, but……

Clarence Newman

Richard also hates Cannonball Run, which you like as much as I do. Ergo my taste in movies is probably more akin to your taste in movies than his taste in movies. Ergo, you should watch The Champ first. Ergo, I ru-wel!

Clarence Newman

And as it's Mike's OP, I cannot pass on without +1'ing The McMartin Trial.

Shawn Kildal

My suggestions for movies based on true events: 1) Escape From Alcatraz, 2) The Pianist, 3) Finding Neverland, 4) American Underdog (Kurt Warner movie), 5) The Insider, 6) The Iron Claw, 7) Brian's Song, 8) The Express, 9) The Elephant Man and 10) Quiz Show. I love all these movies. Also, seeing Batman Returns on this week's upcoming, we need to get to Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Zack Snyder's Justice League before the new Superman gets released

Mark White

Those are some great movies Brian, it is a shame Cassie has seen “A Beautiful mind” I think that would make for a good reaction from her. Your other choices would also make for great watches for Cassie.

Shawn Kildal

I've heard sing the theme song to the show before, so there's a chance she's familiar with it

Cole Jennett

If the list for “based on true events” is going to be partially compiled from Patreon comments, than I have to mention both “Sleepers” and “The Hurricane”.

Vincent Vega

If she hated it, that's even more reason I wanna see her reaction to it lol

Cole Jennett

Agreed, but that’s not the world we live in, unfortunately.

Vincent Vega

I don't think she would lose subscribers by putting an old reaction up on YT

Shawn Kildal

I don't recall anyone ever recommending Finding Neverland before which is puzzling knowing how much Cassie loves the classic Disney movies.

Uncle Phoenix

Disagree. I like the “Love your GUTS”. It’s friendly without being intimate. It’s like a Verbal Fist Bump.

Chris Thom

Where do you land on Batman Forever?

James M

Real events: Battleship Potempkin Hope the wedding is wonderful and a fantastic celebration!

Chris Thom

Escape From Alcatraz is kind of a current event right now. Keep seeing it on the news and in my YouTube feed.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

RE: Films based on true events; If there is one film that I would love for Cassie to watch from that genre it would be Ed Wood (1994). Tim Burton's biopic on Hollywood's worst film director!

K, Zachary

Yes please the Pianist. Congratulations to Carly. We wish you nothing but love and happiness. Be sure to check out your Patreon email and the Fever open on Saturday on ABC Next time your in California might we suggest the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood we are going to be there for a couple of nights in August. Clarence Newman

A reasonable assessment, Phoenix. I do not question Cassie’s motives. Not now, not ever.

Mark White

Escape from Alcatraz is great Chris, I mean my wife even really likes it and considering just how picky she is and prison movies are not exactly her bag! That’s saying something. It’s a movie which has great tone, good acting, great story and the dialogue is minimal but effective. It also has a strange eerieness to it, that really adds to the atmosphere of the movie.

kaiielle

Have the best time at Carly's wedding. It is so much fun to celebrate love! ❤️

Doc Larry/old geezer

A plate that is full in May absolutely. I am impressed that you get it all done. Cassie . As for the dress, you can get bunch of mice together, like Cinderella and you will have the dress in time.if that doesn’t work get the fairy godmother, ready Congratulations Carly. best wishes for a joyous wedding as you start your married life. Health and prosperity.

Shawn Kildal

I liked it, but not enough to campaign for it.

Gray

So i'd best watch the Batman 1989 reaction in preperation right...right? lol, Glad you doing both BHC and a True events poll. I would like to see Touching the Void as we haven't had a documentary style film yet and it's a hidden gem tbh. Best Wishes for the wedding sure it's going to be wonderful.

Clay F

+1 for Sleepers

Larry Darrell

I’ve always just figured Cassie was an advocate for healthy digestive systems.

Clay F

Your top 3 are awesome. That could be my top 3.

Larry Darrell

+1 for Escape From Alcatraz (1979) & +1 for Lean on Me (1989) & +1 for the HNIC… Morgan Freeman.

Richard Maurer

I doubt it would win the poll but I’d probably vote for it if it were on there.

Richard Maurer

I just thought she was a fan of intestinal tracts.

bgb1975 (Brian)

The HNIC took me a minute. Almost forgot about that part.... :)

Richard Maurer

Cassie should do a reaction to Carly’s wedding. ;-)

Richard Maurer

The Batman series had the best Catwoman, Julie Newmar. And that’s pretty much it.

Mark White

Chris, a Sorceress! Do you think she has the power of GraySkull as well?! 😆

Clay F

Adam West BATMAN TV show is what I grew up on. I am in that camp. She could watch Batman (1966) -- skim through if needed b/c of time. Batman (1989) reaction. Carly: "Do people still like this movie?" Cassie: "This movie makes no sense. Zero." Carly: "There was actually no story development. No character development."

Richard Maurer

Mark - I’ll say whatever it takes to get Horror of Dracula watched. Although I would say it’s the best version of Dracula - imo.

Clay F

Plus One for Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) Minus One for Cannonball Run (sorry Clarence)

Clay F

She will be more prepared for Batman Returns than Batman 89. Batman 89 reaction. Carly: "Do people still like this movie?" Cassie: "This movie makes no sense. Zero." Carly: "There was actually no story development. No character development."

Richard Maurer

Clarence - I used to like Cannonball Run before you started championing it. Then I started to think “How good could it be if Clarence likes it that much?”.

Larry Darrell

Just as long as the low doesn’t go as low as the high goes high. The thought always makes me want to keep one eye open. But I think Mike’s right. It seems harmless.

Jake -- what a stunning list. These are my favorites off your list: The Pianist (2002). Adrien Brody won Best Actor Oscar. Cry Freedom (1987). Denzel Washington. Kevin Kline. Donnie Brasco (1997). Johnny Depp. Al Pacino. No. 51 popcornrequests. Mississippi Burning (1988). Young/pretty Frances McDormand nom Oscar The Last Emperor (1987). Won 9 Oscars incl. Best Picture. Gandhi (1982). Clay F

Might be a better chance of positive review w/o Carly. On the other hand, I really have no idea.

Clay F

Please, for the love of God, skip Batman 95 and Batman 97.

Clay F

You could pay $10 for access to full reactions for one month -- and watch the full reaction to Batman 89 and any other Patreon exclusive full reactions you want to see. Batman (1989) full reaction. Carly: "Do people still like this movie?" Cassie: "This movie makes no sense. Zero." Carly: "There was actually no story development. No character development."

Clay F

There is no edited version. They would have to pay the editor. Batman (1989) reaction. Carly: "Do people still like this movie?" Cassie: "This movie makes no sense. Zero." Carly: "There was actually no story development. No character development."

Larry Darrell

I haven’t watched the Batman ‘89 reaction yet, been waiting for her to watch Returns. Not because of the fact she hated it, but because of the reasons she hated it. The thought of watching someone bash and ridicule a favorite classic and beloved film, while in the echo chamber that is her reaction, and me at home unable to explain why things are the way they are and point out the things they missed, and are now laughing at the film because of it. One instance I remember reading a while back, is the girls thinking it ridiculous and weird that Batman asked Vicky Vale how much she weighed. It was because the wire harness thing had a weight limit. I’ve got no problem, with Cassie or Carly not liking a film. Big Trouble in Little China, one of my favorites, Cassie hated it, but the reaction was awesome. She didn’t even realize she was reacting the way she was supposed to. She thought because she didn’t get it or understand it, it was a bad movie. But the point of the film was to be out of your element and not understand it. Her trying to fight it and put rhyme to reason was hilarious. From what I’ve heard, there was ridiculing going on in the Batman ‘89 reaction, for the wrong reasons, and for me, it would be frustrating to sit through that. But, I’m gonna try. Tonight maybe.

Larry Darrell

I think I’m gonna watch the Batman reaction tonight, for the first time. I think it has to be done. I really hope it’s not as bad as I’ve heard. Someone mentioned “Mean Girls” once in describing the reaction. :-/

Clay F

Your LoU S2E5 reaction is excellent. Batman Returns should be interesting. A Monster Calls will be a first watch for me. The Popcorn To Go podcast was good this week, as usual. Congrats to Carly. Enjoy visiting with your family coming in. My recommendations for based on true events poll: The Pianist (2002), Cry Freedom (1987), Lion (2016), Bridge of Spies (2015), Escape from Alcatraz (1979), The Queen (2006), Charlie Wilson’s War (2007), Capote (2005), The Last Emperor (1987), Empire of the Sun (1987), The Thin Red Line (1998), Hotel Rwanda (2004), Friday Night Lights (2004), My Week with Marilyn (2011), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), The Killing Fields (1984), Salvador (1986), Dead Man Walking (1995), and The Runaways (2010) (Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart, MTV movie award Best Kiss).

+1 for American Underdog

Larry Darrell

Sean Young really wanted the role, and campaigned for it.

Happy Hanukkah

Kudos to Larry. Cassie is not expressing her love for our guts but rather encouraging us to love our own digestive systems and take good care of them.

Happy Hanukkah

"I am having to move our Patreon Pop Quiz Trivia until June" Waitaminute... could it be... yes, we're already well into May! I have been remiss: It is May 2025, and I hereby advocate for *that* version of The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996). [#005]

Happy Hanukkah

This thread leads me to recommend Caligula. :-P

Richard Maurer

No one wants that, not even you, HH.

Robert Durant

Honestly surprised you are doing Batman Returns seeing as how you didn’t like the first one. I’m just ready for you girls to experience Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes.

My_Cousin_Mose

Congratulations Carly. I wish the best of luck to you and your future husband.

Chris Thom

Tell me Hanukkah The Menorah....when did you abandon reason for MADNESS. Aghhhhh (wizard punch).

Gray

report back when you do so I know whether I acutally should too :D

Chris Thom

It is a bit like two senior popular girls telling a freshman's geeky childhood that "you're like, really weird, you know that?" But in a kinda nice way.

Happy Hanukkah

"Where do you land on Batman Forever?" I'm not sure about "on," but *from* the top rope. :-)

Larry Darrell

@Gray - Will do. 🫡 If you don’t hear back, don’t come after me. Just honor my memory.

Clarence Newman

Let's just hope Carly doesn't end up in the back of Big Enos Burdette's car, yelling "No hard feelings, Junior!" as they speed away.

Happy Hanukkah

You have a book club? How 'bout that! Clarence Newman urges the club to read the 1973 novel Stand on It.

Happy Hanukkah

As a last top-level comment on this post: Congratulations to LOVE! ... ... ... And to Carly. :-) 🥂

Clarence Newman

Clay. I expect this abuse from Richard, but I thought us Vicky Cristina/Lost In Translation campaigners stuck together. To quote the great Kenneth Williams...."Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in fer me!"

Mike Lemon

@Shawn- You've never heard of it...??? I need to step up my game then. I've tried to not go overboard with pushing for it, but it looks like I restrained myself too much. It is the true story (except some time compression at the end) of the longest trial in U.S. history and the trial that really started the "satanic panic" of the 1980s. If you like court movies at all, it is probably the best movie you have never seen. There are some full uploads on YouTube if you want to check it out. Highly recommended.

Richard Maurer

HH - I’d rather watch Spice World than that version of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

dollop

I know it won't win a poll, but Society of the Snow (2023) is an incredible movie based on true events and by the same director of A Monster Calls. And I totally care about the dress lol! Shopping is so hard especially when everything is done online these days. Maybe a Bridesmaids (2011) reaction would be fun. I hope everything goes smoothly for Carly's wedding! 💞

Mark White

Gray, you know I love “Touching the Void” but I fear if Cassie is ever going to watch it, it will be because of Pick-a-flick. Apart from you and me, I’m not sure anyone else on here had seen Touching the Void, so it would never get voted for in a pole. But yes, a Genre of film that Cassie hasn’t seen and what a incredible true story it is.

Mark White

True event movie suggestion “Everest” 2015 Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Kiera Knightly, Sam Worthington, Robin Wright. Great cast, great story, Great movie

Clay F

Society of the Snow (2023) gets good reviews. Better reviews than Alive (1993) I watched a few times. Both based on the same true events.

Clay F

Batman Returns won a poll.

Clay F

+1 for The Pianist (2002)

Clay F

+1 for "Escape from Alcatraz" 1979 I have watched "Escape from Alcatraz" movie several times since 1979. That's a movie my son and I watched together a couple of times when he was a kid 10-15 years ago. My son was so engrossed with it. In 2023, we visited SF and went to Alcatraz.

Gray

Did you watch "Beckoning Silence" aswell Mark as I thought that was a great documentery by Joe Simpson too. It's on Amazon UK and youtube if you haven't

Larry Darrell

Ooh! Spice World. Cool flick. Great soundtrack. +1 please. :-)

Mark White

Sure did, fantastic doc. Gray have you seen “The Alpinist” documentary about a young Canadian climber Marc Andre Leclerc. Without doubt the best Documentary I’ve ever seen!

Larry Darrell

I’ve been reading great things about Society of the Snow, and am worried about watching it. I’ve enjoyed Alive (1993) for so long, that I’m afraid it might make me think less of Alive. Dang it.

Gray

I actually haven't I'll shall have to watch that soon then, it must of been after my climbing/survival documentary movie binge like free solo and all those everest ones. Cheers for recommendation.

Larry Darrell

+1 for Margin Call (2011) and if you’ll allow, I’ll add… Too Big to Fail (2011), which is like a pseudo sequel.

Mike Lemon

If Escape from Alcatraz is watched it should be paired up with Murder in the First. I think it is Kevin Bacon's best performance.

Clarence Newman

Hmmmm. Burt Reynolds. Loni Anderson. Elvira. Madonna Christian, who no one knows but oh my everloving goysh she was fine. Gomer Pyle. Plus Ned Beatty in a role where he was not the bun to Bill McKinney's foot-long. I need to thank you, Hap. I just mentioned Stroker Ace as a joke the other day, but now you mention it again....I think it might be a film worth campaigning for.

Joel Wayne

I could have sworn I saw her Batman 89 reaction on youtube because I didn't have access to Patreon videos but maybe I just knew she didn't care for it and that somehow has made me think I saw it previously 🤣

Clarence Newman

Island of Dr Moreau. Brrrr. Sounds too much like Maurer.

Happy Hanukkah

RM - I am submitting your last comment as the dictionary example for "hard no." :-)

Chris B.

I hope fans compose themselves better with the Batman Returns reaction, regardless of if Cassie likes it or not. The community reaction to her Batman 89 did not sit well with me at all; she's entirely allowed to not like things we do and vice versa.

Clarence Newman

I've seen the Batman '89 reaction. Oh it's not pretty.

Clarence Newman

Touching the Void? A couple of years ago, I decided to complete my Clint Eastwood journey by watching every single film of his I hadn't seen. When I went to IMDB, I found out there was only one I had missed, and that film was Touching the Void. Nice little movie, and you can never go wrong with Clint. But Mark's right. It will never win a poll.

Clay F

Clatence - you make a good point — you are a big time supporter of both Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Lost in Translation.

Chris Thom

I had no idea the comments were that bad. I saw the reaction but didn't read anything.

Joel Wayne

Same, I kept racking my brain on what BHC was...lol

Clarence Newman

I'm watching the Spartacus series as we speak. Good series, but their budget didn't run to clothing the actors.

Gray

Think you watched The Eiger Section Clarence, Touching the Void is about 2 British Mountain Climbers on a peak in Peru filmed in a documentary style

Rick Rodriguez

That's why "creative" choices were made.

Chris Thom

Yes what Phoebe said. On a positive note, it could go on a Guilty Pleasures poll. Maybe.

Dean Holt

In the style of Leo Getz “Okay, Okay Okay.” Just what to say Air America (1990) needs adding to the poll of based on true life or it just needs watching. As it’s just a great action comedy starring Mel Gibson and a young Robert Downey Jr. Also only had a quick look on YouTube but I don’t think anyone’s done a reaction to it yet.

Chris Thom

Good one Larry. That also kind of reminds me of the HBO Berny Madoff movie with DeNiro. Super dark, but pretty good. With a very real story.

Larry Darrell

Smokey and the Bandit has been maybe my most favorite reaction. No other reaction have I immediately re-watched. I’m totally down with a Triple Feature Reaction to… Hooper (1978) The Cannonball Run (1981) Stroker Ace (1983)

Clarence Newman

That was way back, though, and Cassie wasn't into her stride yet. Howard the Duck is a perfect example of how far she's come with films she doesn't really enjoy. Batman Returns will be fine.

Above Average Dave

Very Good to Great Less-Often-Watched True Stories (in no order). Off the top of my head... RICHARD JEWEL (Sam Rockwell, Paul Hauser, a Clint Eastwood film) LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA (Ken Watanabbe, a Clint Eastwood film) THE FINEST HOURS (Chris Pine) AWAKENINGS (Robin Williams, Robert DeNiro) CAPOTE (Philip Seymour Hoffman) THE OUTPOST (Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom) PATTON (George C. Scott) MATEWAN (Chris Cooper, James Earl Jones) MIDWAY (2014) (Woody Harrelson, Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson) THE ONION FIELD (James Woods, John Savage) BOTTLE SHOCK (Chris Pine, Bill Pulman, Alan Rickman) TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM (Jeff Bridges) OUT OF AFRICA (Redford and Streep) HAMBURGER HILL (Michael Boatman, Don Cheadle) COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER (Sissy Spacek & Tommy Lee Jones) WALK THE LINE (Reese Witherspoon & Joaquin Phoenix) WYATT EARP (Costner and Hackman) THE LOST BATTALION (Rick Schroder-really) FINDING NEVERLAND (Johnny Depp, Kate Winslett) THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES (Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck) THE LONGEST DAY (Robert Mitchum, John Wayne, Sean Connery) THE LAST FULL MEASURE (Sebastian Stan)

Joe J

FYI, check her Letterbox to see what she has seen prior to the channel.

Just Plain Bob

I don’t remember the responses to the reaction being that bad. There was a lot of grandstanding about how she’s allowed to have her own opinion. No kidding. I think what some people found objectionable was the way that criticism was expressed - saying things like it would only appeal to young boys or teenagers. That goes beyond criticism of the movie and becomes a criticism of people with differing views. It was also a hypocritical view, given that the sisters did a podcast a little while ago about “don’t yuck our yum” (i.e. don’t criticize the movies we like). Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and to say when they disagree. Cassie’s criticized any number of films I loved. As long as she doesn’t criticize the AUDIENCE for those films, it’s all fair game.

Dean Holt

Yeah, it really annoys me when people do that. I personally like the movie and Keaton’s my favourite Batman. But I’d rather someone be honest and not everyone is going to like the same films you like. As long as they give reasons why I’m perfectly okay with that.

Clarence Newman

Doh! I am totally off the rezzie, Gray. I'm actually thinking of Trouble With The Curve! Ignore me.

Joel Wayne

My Mom has one in one ear. She just said it's like hearing is quite different having that vs her hearing aid.

Graeme Edgeler

Several good suggestions here (haven't checked which seen already) Will add: TORA! TORA TORA! MOLLY'S GAME THE POST 12 YEARS A SLAVE ZULU THE BLIND SIDE MONEYBALL SPOTLIGHT For something really outside everyone else's suggestions, I will also suggest: THE PENTAGON WARS But I think TORA! TORA! TORA! would be my pick of the films that have a chance of winning a vote :-)

Clarence Newman

Nice try, Kaiielle. But as a mod, we all know you've been invited!

Just Plain Bob

Dean, I agree 100%. So long as the criticism is of the film and not its audience, it’s all good. I can imagine what the response would be if someone in the forum said that a particular rom-com that Cassie reacted to and loved would only appeal to teenage girls.

Joel Wayne

Happy nuptials to Carly and her betrothed....whoever this stranger is 🤣

Chris B.

@Chris Thom I don't know that I'd call it outright "bad", because in general this community is pretty awesome, but I do think it somewhere crossed the line from "passionate" over into "overzealous/kind of pushy", if that makes sense.

Clarence Newman

Agreed on Smokey and the Bandit, Larry - Cassie seemed so happy in that one - but when it comes to Stroker Ace, I just can't do it. Even my love for the moustachioed one doesn't stretch to that film. I can still watch it now and then (Loni's superb acting is compelling to watch). but I'd never recommend it to Cassie. Hooper's good, and Cannonball Run is an underappreciated masterpiece, but for a triple header, I'd substitute in The Longest Yard (1974) or The End (1978).

Clarence Newman

I'm hoping it's Chris Farley. I think Carly Farley has a nice ring to it.

Stick Figure Studios

Also, this is a bit off topic but Joe Don Baker just died. A rare actor who played both an ally and an enemy of James Bond, Cassie and Carly have seen him in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, GOLDENEYE, TOMORROW NEVER DIES and THE NATURAL (and Cassie just saw him again in CAPE FEAR). He will be missed. RIP. 😞

Mike Lemon

She saw it in school. It wasn't a reaction.

Just Plain Bob

Clarence, I’m very curious to see Cassie’s reaction to “Batman Returns.” While I liked “Batman” (though I’ll be the first to say Nolan’s trilogy is better, gaping plot holes and all), I thought “Batman Returns” was a step down in quality. But I think most people prefer it to the original.

Above Average Dave

Working actor! Just a perfect character actor with a velvet voice.

Above Average Dave

I think she's seen Money Ball, The Blind Side and 12 Years a Slave. But very solid list!

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, he had a great, deep memorable voice and a palpable screen presence. His movies weren't always winners (and indeed MST3K had a lot of fun at his expense in two of their greatest episodes ever -- MITCHELL and FINAL JUSTICE -- but it was all good natured). but he was always watchable.

Stick Figure Studios

COOL HAND LUKE is one of my all-time favorite films and one that I'd love to see a reaction to.

Clay F

Above Average Dave, a nice list. My favorite on your list is CAPOTE (2005) (Philip Seymour Hoffman won Best Actor Oscar). She has seen Argo (2012). Graeme -- she reacted to 12 Years A Slave. She has seen The Post, The Blind Side, Moneyball, and Spotlight.

Win

+1 for Tora Tora Tora and out of africa

Clay F

I wonder why Air America (1990) gets poor reviews. I haven't seen it. IMDb 5.8 (avg rating of 33,000 users) Metacritic 33% RT 13% RT Audience 35% (25,000+ ratings)

Chris Thom

Legally, that many exclamation points constitute a binding contract. Thy will be done.

Chris Thom

Nah it's a Tupac. He's alive and has been biding his time trying to get Poetic Justice on the channel. This is the final step before his reemergence.

Clarence Newman

Yeah. Oswald Cobblepot may gross her out some.

Mark White

Lol, yeah, slightly different. But In all seriousness, Touching the Void 2003 is well worth a watch Clarence. You don’t have to be into mountaineering to enjoy it. A remarkable true story.

Clay F

I was 26 when Batman 89 was released and was not a big fan. Ambivalent. Was not into those type of movies at the time. I did love the Adam West Batman as a kid in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Complainers of the Batman 89 reaction were ridiculous. Living in their own world of bloated nostalgia. Most having watched Batman 89 as a kid. My top 3 Batman: 1. The Dark Knight trilogy 2. The Batman (2022) (like the aesthetics) 3. Batman (1966)

Ryan Geiger

We absolutely care about your dress! It's Carley's wedding!

Clay F

My top 3 Batman: 1. The Dark Knight trilogy 2. The Batman (2022) (I like the aesthetics) 3. Batman (1966) I don't remember liking Batman 89, Returns 92, Forever 95, or Batman and Robin 97 that much, except maybe liking Keaton and Kilmer as Batman. BATMAN TV SERIES I watched the Batman TV series as a kid in the late 1960's - early 1970's and loved it. I was in elementary school. Batman was something we watched in the afternoon after school. BATMAN (1989) I was age 26 when movie BATMAN (1989) was released. I didn't really like it. I was somewhat ambivalent. I wasn't into DC Comics. I thought Keaton a good choice for Batman. Kim Bassinger was nice to look at. Nicholson (a great actor) had potential to be good as Joker, though Heath Ledger is my favorite Joker. In all, the movie too cheesy for me in 1989. BATMAN RETURNS (1992) Decent reviews (IMDb 7.1, RT 82%, RT Audience 73%). For me, this movie was a little improvement over Batman 89, but I really didn’t give it a chance. At age 29, I was just not into these types of movies. Michelle Pfeiffer = pleasant. I look forward to giving BATMAN RETURNS (1992) another chance (along w/her reaction). BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM (1993) I turned 30 in 1993 and didn’t really watched cartoons, and thus don’t remember the release of this animated Batman movie. In the 90s, the only cartoons I watched were a few episodes of The Ren & Stimpy Show, King of the Hill, and Beavis and Butt-Head – I liked those 3. I did find aspects I like about the movie when I did a first watch along with Cassie’s reaction. I like the look of the animation (super cool) and somewhat 1940s feel with some darkness. There is dialogue I like. I like the score. But overall, I did not like this movie as much as The Dark Knight trilogy – not even close. Plus, Kevin Conroy is not the best Batman. Maybe the best Batman voice. Takes more than a voice to be the best Batman. BATMAN FOREVER (1995) A letdown. IMDb 5.4 (avg rating of 275,000 users) RT 39%, RT Audience 33% (250,000+ ratings) BATMAN & ROBIN (1997) Horrible. IMDb 3.8 (avg rating of 276,000 users) RT 11%, RT Audience 16% (250,000+ ratings)

Shawn Kildal

Cassie has a reaction to 12 Year's a Slave

Larry Darrell

The Longest Yard (1974) and The End (1978) would totally work, but… How about this crazy idea? For Your Eyes Only (1981) It works with both Hooper AND The Cannonball Run!!

Richard Maurer

Clarence- You want Carly to marry zombie Chris Farley? That’s just disgusting. You should be ashamed!!!!

Ted Whalen

I guess with that many exclamation points it definitely isn’t a failure to communicate.

Mike Lemon

Looking... Oh, the chief in Fletch. Good actor.

MikeLL

I put To Kill A Mockingbird #1 in my list of movies Cassie should rewatch. When she watched Roman Holiday she acted as if she had never seen Gregory Peck before. She has no memory of Mockingbird.

David Patterson

🎵Somebody gеt some flowers. Somebody get a ring. Somebody get a chapel And a choir to sing. Somebody get an organ to play 'Cause somebody's getting married today!

Mike Lemon

@Graeme- +1 for The Pentagon Wars, but get ready if it ever makes a poll. Some people here hate that the movie exists, or there was when it was suggested a while ago.

Joel Wayne

Was not a fan of Poetic Justice

Jake McNulty

Hoffman was good in "Capote", but I prefer "In Cold Blood" (1967).

Larry Darrell

While it would be Cool to finally watch Cool Hand Luke… that’s not really a great representation of Joe Don Baker’s work. I say look to probably the best year in his career… 1973. Charley Varrick (1973)… a Heist Thriller, also starring Walter Matthau The Outfit (1973)… another Heist Thriller, also starring Robert Duvall. Walking Tall (1973)… a **Based on a True Story** film about the Great Tennessee Sheriff… Buford Pusser. Joe Don Baker’s greatest role.

Larry Darrell

For Based on a True Story Poll… and to honor the life’s work of Joe Don Baker, I nominate… Walking Tall (1973) The True Story of Tennessee Sheriff, Buford Pusser. Joe Don Baker’s greatest role.

Richard Maurer

I remember him mostly for Mitchell, unfortunately. I saw it on Mystery Science Theater, so you can imagine it wasn’t one of his better films

Above Average Dave

Withdrawing Argo and adding in a pure Cassie and Carly movie…FINDING NEVERLAND

Mike Lemon

Men of Honor (2000) is another based on a true story Cassie would like. With all the great suggestions in here she may have to have four "regional" polls instead of just one or two. Then a "championship" for the final four to watch (plus Indictment: The McMartin Trial, obviously)

Happy Hanukkah

You've reminded me that one could include American Made (2017), starring the channel's mascot.

Happy Hanukkah

I realize that Stroker Ace is a sentimental favourite of yours, but if we're being objective, surely the Burt Reynolds film to watch is his 1996 classic alongside Demi Moore! (To reinforce my bona fides, I'll admit that I remember unironically enjoying Crazy Six (1997). (Not that I considered it particularly good.))

Larry Darrell

@Gray - Ok. Batman ‘89 Reaction… I made it 35 minutes in, and decided I had enough, and shut the reaction off. Watching anymore wasn’t going to do anyone any good. I was getting more and more annoyed and they were looking less and less nice and pleasant. I can see why they never put the reaction on YouTube and I strongly support continuing not putting it on YouTube. 30 minutes in and they both had checked out completely already. They decided the film was goofy and weird and were laughing AT it. I didn’t feel like watching that for another hour and a half. It was not charming. I had pen and notepad ready to take notes. I wrote 3 things down before I realized there was no point. I think everyone involved learned a lesson from that reaction, which is why we haven’t seen the likes of it again. A Lesson of Respect. You have to give it, in order to receive it. I wouldn’t recommend watching it, unless you’re not that big a fan of Batman ‘89. Because as a fan of the film and a fan of PiB, it wasn’t a pretty sight. I say watch Batman ‘89 by yourself first, then watch the Batman Returns reaction, knowing that Cassie has seen it, and SHOULD remember it. This Batman Returns reaction is going to be very interesting, and Cassie probably knows everyone is paying close attention ( no pressure ;-) I appreciate an honest reaction, but I hope Cassie knows, which I’m sure she does by now, that laughing AT and ridiculing a piece of Art, that someone loves, right in front of them, is just not cool. I would rather she just turn the movie off and say, this film is not for me. (Or I guess I could just turn it off… which I did. But that’s not what she wants either 🤷‍♂️) Or find a person with an opposing view to watch the film with, so that she could bounce her thoughts off of them and it would even things out. Alright that’s it, I’m rambling. My recommendation is Don’t Watch It. Now I’m going back to finish the last hour and a half on my own… “and as you can see… I’m a lot happier.” ;-)

Gray

Haha that's brutal I won't be watching it but I did skim a movieless reaction of it to get the vibe and the end chat & I think Cassie's gonna have similar struggles with Batman Returns but guess we'll see.

Larry Darrell

Yeah, I agree her feelings probably won’t change for Batman Returns, but it’ll be interesting to see how much she shows this time. I feel like I’ve seen her hold back a little in some reactions since Batman. I thought before the reaction, that having seen some 60s Adam West Batman would’ve helped, but now I doubt that would change anything.

Just Plain Bob

I used to work with law enforcement quite a bit (I performed investigations of public corruption for the state comptroller’s office). The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has one of its biggest offices in Jackson, due north and about 45 minutes away from McNairy County, where Pusser was sheriff (he died about twenty years before I started). I remember, when I first heard about the circumstances of his wife’s death, thinking that it didn’t make any sense. Who gets their wife up in the middle of the night to take them along on a call for a disturbance, particularly when it’s well known that there are those in the community that are actively gunning for you? Accounts differ as to whether this was something he did with regularity, some saying he frequently brought his wife along on calls while others said that was nonsense. Our office was on very good terms with the TBI, particularly with the Jackson office (several of us were invited to, and attended, a private retirement party for their SAC when he put in his papers). We’d frequently chat after presenting/discussing an investigation and its progress. It was during one of those chats that I learned that the older agents in the office widely believed that Pusser played some role in his wife’s murder. Last year, at her family’s request, the TBI exhumed his wife’s body to determine whether it matched his story (I understand the emphasis was on how many bullet wounds there are). Amazingly, she was not autopsied at the time of her death. She has since been re-interred and no details have been released, although I believe they’ve re-opened her case.

Chris Thom

Woah I had no idea Tucker was a true story. You sure that's right?

Chris Thom

How did she die exactly? His story was that she was killed during a ride a long?

Jeanette

The Impossible is a true story with a very young Tom Holland . The acting and how they capture the event is brilliant

Clay F

She has seen it. Good movie.

Clarence Newman

She must've watched that, Mike. It's not on my list, and would be if I hadn't found it on Letterbox. I'll have to recheck.

I think she'd squirm her way through Striptease, although Burt is good in it. And as for Boogie Nights......"Doo de doo de dooooo."

Clarence Newman

If we can honour Gene Hackman with Enemy of the State (a Will Smith film), we can honour Joe Don with Cool Hand Luke.

Nope, it's not on there. That's cool. I can add it to my list because it's really good.

Here are some other options for the BASED ON A TRUE STORY OPTION 1) The Straight Story (1999) 2) Lean On Me (1989) 3) Stand and Deliver (1988) 4) In the Name of the Father (1993) 5) Malcolm X (1992) 6) The Hurricane (1999) 7) The Killing Fields (1984) 8)The Madness of King George (1994) 9) Gandhi (1982) 10) The Fog of War (2003) These are just for starters as most of the other requests seem to be based on the war side of things I thought I would mix it up.

Happy Hanukkah

"I think she'd squirm her way through Striptease" Phrasing! :-) :-P

Clay F

Nice list. My top 4 on your list: --In the Name of the Father (1993) --The Killing Fields (1984) --Gandhi (1982). Won 8 Oscars including Best Picture. --Malcolm X (1992). Would have also been good for Black History Month.

Just Plain Bob

She was allegedly shot and killed in an ambush while riding along on a disturbance call in the middle of the night/early morning. There were rumors that Pusser was not simply opposed to the organized crime elements in the county but that he was actually actively working for one of two criminal factions against the other, using his office as a weapon. I have no idea what that’s based on and wasn’t aware of it at the time I was talking with the TBI agents; I read about it later. All I knew at the time was that it didn’t make sense to me that he’d wake his wife up to come with him on a disturbance call in the middle of the night. He had been shot several months earlier and everyone knew that there was an open contract on his life. Given those circumstances, it seemed very odd that he’d take his wife into such a potentially dangerous situation. It was when I mentioned this to the agents I was talking to that they said that it was widely accepted among the agents in that region that Pusser was involved in her murder in some fashion.

Art Vandalaay

Ha… I’m over her. Ready for the Summer of George. 👍

Björn Karlsson

The King's choice (2016) from 🇳🇴🇳🇴 is great 😀😀

Delia P

Recs for based on true events On The Basis of Sex The Imitation Game Trial of The Chicago Seven Frost/Nixon Remember The Titans

Clay F

FROST/NIXON (2008) [Ron Howard] is awesome. Nominated for Best Picture Oscar. Trial of The Chicago Seven and On The Basis of Sex are both good. She has seen Remember the Titans (apparently multiple times) and The Imitation Game.

Clarence Newman

And on behalf of me, Stick and Flag, who understand the magnitude of Paul Newman's Magnus Oprah, the correct pronunciation in writing is COOL HAND LUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, not Cool Hand Luke. Why should Cassie watch it? "Yeah, well.....it would just be sump'n to do."

Dean Holt

Sorry for the long response Clay 😂. Really don’t know why it’s that low especially on RT. I know we’ve spoken about it before, but it’s why I tend not to look at rating. As I personally would say it’s at least a 7/10. But Suicide Squad (2016) & the two Matrix sequels are all over 6/10, Matrix Reloaded is even a 7.2/10. And Air America is better than all 3 imo. Also if you look at Predator (1987) & The Predator (2018) the Metacritic scores have The Predator (2018) on a slightly higher rating which is insane. No one in their right mind would rate the 2018 higher. I know you’ve explained why you use the ratings and I respect that. But how I tend to decide what to watch, is I look who’s in it, who’s directed it. Read what it’s about & genre, if it sounds interesting I’ll watch a trailer. I also go on recommendations & there’s a few YouTubes that tend to like the same stuff as I do, Cody Leach is great for horror reviews & Sean Chandler great for Comic book, Action & a few other things. But it’s one of the many good movies that might never be watched on here, but it’s something I’d recommend if you like action comedy’s.

Dean Holt

That’s a another great one. I think when Cassie or whoever advises on the poll category’s they didn’t really realise just how many movies this genre covers lol.

Larry Darrell

+1 for Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)

Jacob Wagner

The People Vs Larry Flynt for true events

bgb1975 (Brian)

Forgot about "Richard Jewel". +1 for that one!

OddThomas

Batman Returns is great, but I don't think it's Cassie's bag, lol. Batman Forever may be more fun for her.

Larry Darrell

Sorry for blowing up your notifications earlier. Slow work day and I read through every bit of it. Every thing you said I was thinking. Honesty begets Honesty.

Shehab Dawoud

Alright man😂 I saw 15 notifications and was like “what the hell is going on?” Appreciate it but I’m just trying to let that go and move on. No one came out of that in a good light😬

Larry Darrell

Yeah, I understand. I tried watching it last night, so it’s just fresh on my mind. Felt like saying, I know where you were coming from. I think Everyone learned some lessons from that. In the past now. On to Batman Returns.

OddThomas

That's ok, I'll just block you bye bye

Richard Maurer

I wouldn’t be adverse to a Cool Hand Luke reaction.

Clarence Newman

With all the talk of it lately (hundreds of fervent posts, I'd say), I watched COOL HAND LUKE again tonight. Oh Cassie, you poor deprived, misadvised thing you. Everything else you may watch on this channel is but a bag of wasabi peas compared to the life-size, Aragorn-shaped gummi bear that is COOL HAND LUKE. It's a marshmallow pillow on a bed of M&M's, a mass hug from your besotted children as you emerge from the movie room because they're just so happy to see you. I don't want to oversell it, but Oh My Gosh, Dear Heavens and How Have You Not Seen This! There has never been a film so undeniably amazeballs and so perfectly designed to distract you from 2 hours of creeping numb butt. No polls required, Cassie. This was Newman at his very peak, not only in his acting but also in that million dollar face that makes Chris Hemsworth look like Howard the Duck. Resistance, at this point, is futile.

Clarence Newman

She lies like a ten dollar rug, Dustin. If you put "Batman" into the "Search" box up above, another box comes up which says "I will literally react to your wedding video if you turn around now!"

Larry Darrell

Nah, Clarence is joking. She watched it Pre-Channel. No need to do a reaction. She enjoyed the film very much and has commented on it numerous times in the past. Circumstances in the past have kept her from watching Batman Returns. She’s been wanting to watch it for a long time now. This is a very special week for her. No need to search for it. No, need to enter “Batman” in the search bar at the top of your screen. No need to click on the Full Reaction of Batman link. (Wink, Wink).

Clarence Newman

Don't defend her, Larry. She needs to think about what she did!

Larry Darrell

There’s nothing to defend. Cassie did nothing wrong. It was a Pre Channel Watch. Couldn’t be helped. She didn’t know she would have a Patreon channel that had text bubbles that shorten long texts , and that you would have to click on them when they say “See More” in order to see more text. Text that would direct someone to the search bar at the Top of her page, where someone could search for a particular movie, like for instance, Batman ‘89. IF that movie was there. (Wink, Wink)

Clay F

Dean, thanks for the reply. For Air America, I don't put much emphasis on RT or IMDb because the sample size is too small. The ratings seem too low for Air America with those 2 excellent actors. I was wondering if you had nostalga for Air America, e.g., you first watched it when you were young and have watched it multiple times since. I may give it a try. Small sample size is commonly a problem with Metacritic (as for Predator 1987). RT and IMDb typically have much larger sample sizes, which give better data. I like Metacritic, but I always check the sample size first and will ignore if too few critics. Air America must have been somewhat of an obscure movie to only have 16 critics (2 top critics) participate at RT. There is not even a critics consensus. IMDb number of users is only 32,000. Air America IMDb 5.8 (32,000 users) RT 13% (16 reviews) RT Audience 35% (25,000+ ratings) Predator (1987) IMDb 7.8 (477,000 users) RT 80% (61 reviews) RT Audience 87% (250,000+ ratings) Predator (2018) IMDb 5.3 (154,000 users) RT 34% (295 reviews)

Katie Sivak

Based on true story watch Selena it was so good and. Star turn with JLo. Great music, some romance and tragedy 😭

Dean Holt

I do have some nostalgia as I saw it around 92 when I was 15 and I watched it loads of times throughout the 90s. I’d not seen it in ages until it pop up on Amazon (I think) about a year ago. And I still really enjoy it, it’s kinda has similar humour to Lethal Weapon and it’s it only really got one or two un-realistic scenes. Also has some really good characters but give the trailer a watch and see what you think. But if you do give it a watch I’d love to know what you think.

Larry Darrell

Just checking, but are you sure you haven’t been down this road before, Clarence? Some months back? Like 4? https://youtu.be/bCRj-AtFRBA?si=Evcl736yqLkQa-6i If you’re sure, then let’s flip that 45 over, and I’ll get hooked on that feeling of Luke’s Cool Hand with ya. ;-) https://youtu.be/SyLBiExqd60?si=oeM5T0J1qxeewKXd But remember… we won’t need no umbrella, for the raindrops that keep falling on our heads. Cause cryings not for us. It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet us with… some good ole Paul Newman Coolness. https://youtu.be/_VyA2f6hGW4?si=rk_5vUfrwoT0Dk3Y And I just can’t help believing, that The Towering Inferno, will soon follow. Maybe more than just a day later… give or take. :-) https://youtu.be/e33fxzJ-g5E?si=-OU6Vo1A-lDfVutY

Chris Thom

I still haven't seen that yet. But the story itself is pretty well known.

Chris Thom

Have a feeling she may force herself to be as positive as possible on Batman Returns. Which may equate to the admission that Michelle Pfeiffer is actually quite pretty when she's not making psycho eyes. And that may be it.

Chris Thom

Not sure you've done it or not yet Clay, but would be curious to see your top 10 for this poll. (which movies you'd want to see on it, that she hasn't seen yet)

Mike Lemon

Selena is a good recommendation. I'll add La Bamba as another in the same vein.

Chris Thom

Fog of War is amazing. I don't know if I ever saw Malcolm X.

Chris Thom

That's really interesting. I know we need police and that they're very important in any society. And that there are a ton of good cops out there. But I also read a lot of testimonials from spouses of cops, and there's quite a bit of verbal, physical abuse there. And it's so easy for them to make believable threats (like if you leave me, such and such will happen). It's pretty sad. Unfortunately it's one of the top professions for NPD and abusers.

Chris Thom

Been wanting to see that. I've heard it's one of the ultimate Gen-X movies.

Katie Sivak

Also watch Dirty Dancing 2 a really romantic movie and worthy sequel w young Diego Luna

Dave1900

Cassie, you will be stunning at the wedding

dollop

I'd love a reaction to this. The book Chris wrote about his relationship with Selena is so sweet too 😭

Batman

Da da dah da! da de dum! Dada DAAHH da dah da da da da DAAH da. Du du dum...

Larry Darrell

I hope she knows that everyone, obviously wants her to be as honest as possible in her reaction. This is why we are here. For me, the moment I feel like I’m being lied to, is when I start to think about leaving. The main problem with the last reaction was that it, according to a number of us, came in the form of ridicule and mockery, which made the experience not fun. There’s no need for that. Aside from Howard the Duck, we haven’t seen anything close to that again, which even then wasn’t as bad, and everyone in the community basically gave her permission to be a little harsher, by constantly labeling it the worst film ever. I believe whatever issues there were in the past, have been corrected, and it’s all good now. So when Cassie says anything about Michelle Pfeiffer’s eyes, I know it’ll be the truth and will always be in the positive. Anything negative about Michelle’s eyes will of course be a lie, and on that cue I will be packing my bags. (JK :-) Please, Cassie, know that as long as you’re honest, then you’re standing on solid ground, and you’ll never fall… even when the audience decides to throw tomatoes at you. ;-) Still luv ya Cass.

Stick Figure Studios

What does Batman need to solve crimes? He needs data, data, data, data...

Damien beatty

A few more greats based on true stories 1) The Elephant Man (1980) 2) Mephisto (1981) 3) Silkwood (1983) 4) Matewan (1987) 5) The King of Kong : A Fistful of Quarters (2007) 6) Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018) Just a few other options it took me awhile to remember all of these are top notch as well!

Damien beatty

I do not know why it came out like this sorry!

Damien beatty

Good movies but for me it all starts with "Paris Blues" in (1961) and "The Hustler" , but "Hud" in (1963) Yeah man. His relationship with JoAnn Woodward was magical.

Chris Thom

Was Won't You Be My Neighbor the one with Tom Hanks?

Stranger2Reality

Whatever happened to 12 Monkeys? Did she react to that and I just missed it?

Clarence Newman

You know how it is on here, Larry. We must lead Cassie down certain roads a hundred times before she actually watches the film. When it comes to relentless suggesting, COOL HAND LUKE is well worthy of nauseating overkill.

Clarence Newman

Never seen Paris Blues, Damian, though the Newman films I’ve seen with Joanne have never been that good. Apart from Winning (1968), I’m not sure they had a joint hit. I absolutely LOVE Hud, but no one but you and me has heard of it, so it would have to be Pick-a-flicked.

Clarence Newman

“....except when Michelle is making psycho eyes.” Oh my gosh. Tell me there’s a guy here who would ask her to leave if she looked at us that way. We’d be dead twenty minutes later, but it would be worth it.

Clarence Newman

Don’t agree with me, Richard. It gives me the twitches.

Chris Thom

It's between Willow and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Chris Thom

Oh never heard of that. Or I have maybe, but I thought they were referring to the same movie with different names. Just watched the trailer though. Looks good.

Chris Thom

Ready for the luke-warmiest reaction of the summer.

Chris Thom

Had no idea there was a sequel. Was there anything in it that tied it to the original?

Chris Thom

Very sad how she died. I know she did an evil thing, but I always kind of felt for her shooter as well. She seemed really troubled and sad. Whole thing was tragic.

Chris Thom

True. It's such a great performance too. That scene where she's ransacking her own apartment gives me chills.

Clarence Newman

Agreed. It's easy to dismiss Michelle's performance in that film because of the sexy catsuit, but there's some real nuanced acting there. She basically plays three different characters.

Batman

The ship was lost at sea! See? C for Cassie! Why Popwoman you diabolical...

Richard Maurer

Advocate for Cannonball Run or Rhinestone again and things will be back to normal.

Larry Darrell

🙋‍♂️ I know Hud (1963). I know Paris, Blues (1963). Put me down for +1’s

Chris Thom

Cassie I think your post told us to hold you to the Batman Returns reaction. If I read that right. So I'll just say I hope you'll at least give it a shot. If you hate it, you can always turn it off. And make it a tax write off or something. But some strange force of nostalgia is really looking forward to this one...and I'm not entirely sure why. But I am. Anyway, hoping it's not a complete waste of your time. Michelle Pfeiffer rage sewing and whip snapping. Nuff said.

Clarence Newman

For the record, we are currently awaiting YT edits for 12 Monkeys, War For the Planet of the Apes, Mad Max & Double Jeopardy.

Clarence Newman

And.....forgive me for pointing this out if others already have (I have the attention span of Andy Dwyer, so I can't read through 392 posts to check), but there are two errors in your post. The Last of Us episode under "This week on YT" should be S2 E5, not S3 E5, and the next episode coming to Patreon should be S2 E6, not S2 E5.

Clarence Newman

Yes, Michelle might just be the real star of this movie. But I don't think there's a chance in hell Cassie won't make it through to the end. She's a 5 year veteran now and she knows how to navigate choppy waters. Besides, I think she'll enjoy this one more than Batman '89.

Chris Thom

True. But she did barely hold it together for Howard the Duck. lol

Clarence Newman

That one is a glaring exception. I'm not sure she's ever been full-on trolled with a selection before.

Richard Maurer

They made a mistake in the upcoming comments!?! How is this possible!?!

Richard Maurer

She’ll be alright - as long as she doesn’t watch the 95 and 97 Batman films. Those Schumacher films could stop her from watching any further Batman films, at the very least.

Clarence Newman

I blame The Last of Us. It has devastated Cassie's soul and she is currently shuffling around on auto-pilot.

Clarence Newman

For some reason, I've always loved Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Watched it loads of times. Elizabeth Taylor is very good, but Newman and Burl Ives make the film.

Shawn Kildal

Another great movie based on a true story that I don't think anyone has mentioned is Mask (1985) starring Cher, Sam Elliott and Eric Stoltz. That would be a great mother's day movie btw

Chris Thom

Didn't even know there was a 60's movie. I thought it was a Saturday morning thing on tv.

Larry Darrell

The first season of Batman ran from January to May of 1966 and a film was made, called Batman: The Movie (1966), released at the end of July 1966. The film features all the villains working together. Then two more seasons aired from the Fall of 1966 to Spring of 1968.

Joe J

We only ever get the YT edits a few hours earlier than the YT premiere. We should get 12 Monkeys, Mad Max, and Double Jeopardy on YT next week. LoUS ep 6 late next week on YT also I would assume.

Clarence Newman

The '66 movie is all you really need to get a feel for the series. It has all the villains in and is a lot fun. Cheesy as hell, but still fun.

Clarence Newman

Stick's joke doesn't work on us Brits. Alas, we pronounce it day-ta.

Richard Maurer

But Catwoman isn’t played by Julie Newmarr in the movie, therefore not a good representation of the series.

Clarence Newman

Yeah, but Lee Meriwether wasn't exactly chopped liver.

Larry Darrell

It was a shock to the system when I learned that Burl Ives, the voice behind so many great classic Christmas songs and Sam the Snowman was the actor I saw in… Desire Under the Elms (1958) The Big Country (1958) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) Day of the Outlaw (1959) For such a jolly old man, he could go dark. The man had range.

Sean

Im so excited for Batman Returns. The best of the Keaton Batman films!

Curtis Martin

Um..... I remember you telling us that the first Keaton Batman was the first reaction you didn't post because you hated it so much. So you're watching the sequel? If you want to help understand why that first Tim Burton Batman was such a big deal, you need to watch the 1966 Batman. But have your Bat Shark Repellent handy...... 😋

N M

Hey Cassie - I walked by Lincoln Center in NYC today and saw them setting up a red carpet for the Premiere of Mission Impossible— Dead Reckoning, and I thought of you and your sister’s experience, was it last year or the year before? You should go again!

Happy Hanukkah

Mais aucune d'eux n'etait si bon. They didn't convince me they wanted to be Evil.

Richard Maurer

“Speak words we can also understand!” “To that I say Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul!” See what you did HH? You’ve offended Gimli with your French!

Richard Maurer

It’s well known that Dwarves hate googling.

Clay F

I like Batman (1966) [RT=80%] better than Batman (1989) [RT=77%]. Don't get me wrong -- I appreciate aspects of Batman 89 but I have nostalgia for Batman 66. Adam West Batman TV series is what I watched in the late 60s/early 70s as a kid.

Curtis Martin

'66 is a whole different Animal. It is a joke-on purpose. It's saying "can you believe how silly those comic books we read as kids were?? And yes, it's fun. I used to watch Batman after school - unironically (I was young) and it is great nostalgia. "89 was set in a ridiculous world, but it took itself seriously within that world. I have a suspicion that for Cassie, jumping straight in to '89 without a lot of context, was a large part of the problem. I am concerned that a similar fate will befall "Returns".

Clay F

Curtis — good points. Batman 66 is campy.

David

winner monster film called hulk 2003

Curtis Martin

Gloriously Campy! Some days it's hard to know what to do with a bomb!

Curtis Martin

Wait a minute! I call... Unpopped kernels! I distinctly remember that you shelved the reaction because you couldn't take the movie seriously and you were afraid of offending your viewers.
