Deanna Nees

I hope your 4th of July was awesome Cassie!

Timothy Fisher

Will we be getting the YT eddit of "Charlie Wilson's War" anytime soon?

Clarence Newman

I imagine it was tough to see your Tommy boy in such a role, but never fear, a solution is here. Cocktail (1988).

Joe J

She loves her boy Tom. Cocktail, really? What about that Mummy movie he made. 🤣

Clarence Newman

The Mummy remake is pants, Joe - and not a clean pair neither. Cocktail is rom-com-drama gold and stars one of my all-time celebrity crushes. Therefore, no contest.

Happy Hanukkah

"He looked kind of nice and so I said I might take a chance..." I enjoyed the mindless fun of Knight and Day (2010, Tom and Cameron Diaz), but sadly, Cassie claims that she's seen it. Then there's American Made (2017), but I'm not sure Cassie would walk out of the movie entirely satisfied (avoiding spoilers). (Looking up the dates, I notice Cruise has not been very active in recent years. Then again, why should he?)

Stranger2Reality

Probably too much nudity for her to put on YT.

Happy Hanukkah

Is this a description of Cassie watching horror movies? :-)

Stranger2Reality

This is one of those instances where a great performance is wasted in a mediocre movie. Tom Cruise is great, but the film is just mid, at best.

WackyJacky

Will you watch Thunderbolts?

Kawaii Leonard

Being of Vietnamese descent, the war was a huge waste of lives and treasure, for all sides. This was because we could have had a unified Vietnam, under the Geneva accords of 1954, with a free and fair election. However, the US pulled out of that fearing the super popular Vietminh, under the communist leader Ho Chi Minh, would win the election overwhelmingly. What was the result? a decade of war and we ended with a North Vietnam victory anyway.

Carol Rocha

Wow! Kyra Sedgwick!! So young!

Doc Larry/old geezer

Very emotional Movie about a very turbulent time in history Tom Cruise did a magnificent job Oscar worthy as far as I’m concerned.

Jacob Colson

Just no. I avoid this movie like the plague. I don't care about Tom Cruise, and it all started when he jumped on Oprah's couch like a you know what. I can't stand this anti-Vietnam war protester veteran that he plays. The War at Home (Emilio Estevez co-wrote it, starred in it and directed it) is a much better movie or hell, even Platoon is better than this garbage.

bgb1975 (Brian)

Watched it for the first time along with Cassie. As a Navy vet, I can't say the movie did much for me, but the reactions are always great.

Clay F

Excellent movie. Thanks for the reaction. "Don't you know what it means to me to be a Marine, Dad? Ever since I was a kid I've wanted this - I've wanted to serve my country - and I want to go. I want to go to Vietnam - and I'll die there if I have to."

bknsty14

Vanilla Sky please

Clay F

So I guess you disagree with both the Academy and the Golden Globes. --Won Golden Globe for Best Picture (Drama). --Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Music (Original Score), and Best Writing (Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium). --Oliver Stone won Oscar for Best Director.

Clay F

I prefer Magnolia (1999) and American Made (2017) over Cocktail (1988). Cocktail (1988) --IMDb 5.9 --Metacritic 12% --RT 9% (don't see many single digit ratings on RT) --RT Audience 58% (over half so that's a good sign)

Stranger2Reality

Clay, I've talked about this before, but this to me is a movie, like Platoon, which has not aged very well. It's not a bad movie, but the stuff that was impactful back in the 80s just isn't anymore. Tom Cruise gives a great performance, that hasn't changed, but so much of the message is now is just extremely obvious. Some movies are just "of their time" and this is one of them. And no, I don't consider the Oscars or the Golden Globes in any way to be good arbiters of quality. Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles and Stanley Kubrick have zero best director wins between them, while people like Ron Howard do. The Oscars are almost always proven to have made the wrong choice by how quickly their winners are forgotten to history. And the Golden Globes are an even bigger joke. If you love this movie, then that's great, I'm not gonna tell you you're wrong. If it's meaningful to you, that's great, it used to be for me too back when it came out. But honestly I just don't think Oliver Stone is much of a filmmaker. Subtlety has never been his strong suit 😂

Clay F

She recently specifically mentioned Eyes Wide Shut as a remaining Tom Cruise movie to react to. The channel editor (Matt) is good -- he will crank out an acceptable YT edit. I wish the movie was more sensual/erotic than dark/dread. Had potential. It is Kubrick's last film. I know people who love it. Worth to watch at least once. I think it's cool that Cruise/Kidman are married both in the movie and irl.

Clay F

Stranger -- thanks for the reply. Just confirming that you disagree with the Academy and the Golden Globes. I like your profile pic.

Stranger2Reality

It's not the first time I've disagreed with them. It's nearly an annual tradition to be honest 😂

Clarence Newman

Magnolia and American made might be better films, Clay, but I'm sure Cassie would enjoy Cocktail more. Brian Flanagan may not be the perfect guy (he'll piss her off some), but she'll like him a lot more than Frank T J Mackey.

Clarence Newman

Plus....Elisabeth Shue. I would've married her in the 80s.

Clarence Newman

The only thing holding it up is copyright, Tim. Ben is doubtless busting his butt as we speak.

Chris Thom

That attitude is half admirable, half frightening. Lots of ways to serve a nation and community that doesn't involve killing. Or getting involved in other nations' internal affairs. Just being a gun for hire risks exploitation by any psychopath that comes along with a vendetta.

Chris Thom

I never knew Estevez did so much work behind the camera. Someone on here was saying one of the movies he directed was his all time favorite.

Jacob Colson

He wrote, directed, starred in: That Was Then... This Is Now (Emilio only wrote the screenplay), Wisdom (directorial debut), Men at Work, The War at Home (my mistake, he only directed it), Bobby, The Way (one of my favorites of Emilio's that also stars Martin Sheen), and The Public.

TheSingulatarian

"Magnolia" is a magnificent movie. But Cruise plays a very disturbed and damaged character. I think Cassie's reaction will be similar to "Born of the Fourth of July".

Ted Whalen

I thought that this was another great reaction on a difficult topic! Cassie’s reaction made me think of this song from the early 70’s (I think that she will like this song). Edwin Starr- War (What is it good for)….. https://youtu.be/ztZI2aLQ9Sw?si=guilFblCx7Jv6vUL

Above Average Dave

The treatment of returning Vietnam vets was reprehensible, and started with the anti-war crowd. Interestingly, this treatment ultimately became perhaps the single issue the wake of the war did address successfully, although it took until the early 1980s for it to begin: Honoring vets on their return from war zones. Also, Korea began and Vietnam continued two phenemenon which should not be allowed in our republic: 1) Undeclared wars (as opposed to, say, a single-action military engagement). 2) Entering wars with no clearly stated parameters for victory, or no goal of victory at all. As the real Eugene Sledge (Cassie saw him in "The Pacific") said in the 2001 documentary "Hell in the Pacific": "The front line is really where the war is, and anyone even 100 yards behind the front lines doesn't know what it's like. And everytme I hear people talking about sending people into combat, I just cringe to myself because these people who send them have no concept of what hell is."

Above Average Dave

Elizabeth Shue never came back for the pajamas she left at my house.

Clarence Newman

I know, Dave. She was on her way back when she bumped into me.

bgb1975 (Brian)

Can't say that I blame you, Jacob. I avoid spending a dime on certain movies or products (diz-knee for one) like the plague as well. But I might get the dvd out from the local library once it is long-since-released if it is something that I really want to see. Or watch along with PiB. That was the case with this movie.

Cole Jennett

I disagree Clay, I “love” the profile pic😂
