Our Pollception winner was SCI-FI! I decided to make two polls for this very popular genre-pre and post 1980 sci fi flicks.

Here is the Post 1980 Poll

Multiple votes allowed

Poll closes on Tuesday at midnight.

Ps-Already planning on watching Children of Men and Interstellar in the nearish future!

Comments

Strider

Sunshine!!!!!

Anthony Carlson

The Last Starfighter is a good one! My dad would watch this occasionally over the years.

Rainbow Dash

Really think she’ll enjoy Oblivion!

Andrew Heller

Too many good ones!!! Pacific rim, upgrade, escape from NY, equilibrium, daybreakers (my suggestion) Hopefully she does alot of these somehow lol

Kristin

Pacific Rim, Oblivion

Richard Maurer

The only 2 I’m voting for (for now anyway) are Pacific Rim and Escape from New York

Stick Figure Studios

A lot of great movies on here. Honestly, I think I'd be fine with any of those as well, but I voted for EQUILIBRIUM, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, THE LAST STARFIGHTER and PACIFIC RIM.

Shad Kanyak

A little surprised to see Equilibrium on here. I didn’t think that movie was that well known. It’s not great, but still worth seeing.

Chris Brown

Batteries not included... It's nice to see a unique, fun, and uplifting , but frequently overlooked, movie on the poll

Brian Sheely

Cassie is a huge Tom Cruise fan, and he’s in one of these.

Anthony Carlson

Escape from New York is a surprise. A certain video game character was inspired by the main character of this film….

Andrew Heller

Feel like pacific rim and escape from NY are gonna go neck and neck

Nick Skelton

Sunshine is in my top 5 sci-fi.

Andrew Heller

I made a comment about if being christian bale and sci fi

Dan M

Wow…there are quite a few of these here that I’m not familiar with. Pacific Rim is a lot of fun, visually stunning, with some really cool FX. And of course, Oblivion…how can you pass up on another Tom Cruise movie…paired up with Morgan Freeman.

Bill Maurer

Gotta go with Snake Plissken !!!!

Andrew Heller

Which makes it even cooler cause you know someone is reading the comments

keoma songs

Mark me down for Moon, The Last Starfighter, and 2010. Love Moon for its emotion. 2010 for similar reasons. But The Last Starfighter straight up might have the greatest, most underrated bombastic and rousing musical main theme .... Ever! It's right up there with Superman, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones. It's awesome!

MikeLL

OK, I really am a Classic film lover, lol! I have not seen most of the recent movies on this list and voted for some of the oldest ones here: The Last Starfighter and Escape From New York. I am consistent! I would really love a Cassie watch to either of these, dare I say it, classics!

Andrew Heller

Good choice…feel like them two would be neck and nexk…i voted rim, equilibrium, escape from NY and the two i suggested on the pollception , upgrade and daybreakers (even though thats more sci fi vampire action)

Robert da Spruce

Oblivion would be my pick Also glad to hear you’ll be watching Children of Men Cassie! Didn’t you already watch Interstellar though?

Matt Dellarosa

Multiple good ones on here Cassie. My top three on this list are Equilibrium, Sunshine and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Matt Dellarosa

Its a great movie Cassie. You'll love it.

Farbod

Upgrade is so slept on. Such a great movie.

Garrett Wilson

I hope Moon and Escape from NY win, but I think she would get a kick out Johnny-5, The Last Starfighter, and Flight of the Navigator.

Holly

I can't believe batteries not included has so few votes, but considering the competition, I guess maybe I do understand it. I know she would love that one. I think that needs to be part of a completely separate poll

DavidJPL

Must, must, MUST watch "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"!!! It's the most 'Cassie' movie of the bunch!

Andrew Heller

Upgrade is a solid sci fi action movie…maybe a bit violent though, but very underlooked

Andrew Heller

I made that suggestion on the pollception comments, movie is awesome, but knowing her, its def more on the violent side

Matt Dellarosa

To be clear, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is scifi but is very much of a comedy and is not meant to be taken seriously. Personally I love it and I have the complete set of all 5 books. The movie only covers the first book. I wish they would follow up with the serious but im doubtful that it will happen.

FranciscoGios

Children of Men is insane as an rainy for someone who has a heart.

shaneth138

Lmao I was going to make a joke that the whoever wins the POST 1980 poll will be whichever movie is closest to 1980. And so far the movie winning is from 1981 lol. Modern movies are so under appreciated on this channel.

Andrew Heller

Gotta say, this might be one of the best polls yet…there are so many good movies on this one…i feel like escape from ny will win because come on…kurt russell, snake plisken?

MGCR

Of course a movie from the damn 80s is winning...

Phil Stubblefield

Please: 2010! It's a great sequel to 2001, explains some of the major plot points of the original, and is much more "accessible", if I can use that word. 💯

Robert Jewell

I've only seen a few of these and they're just ok imo, but I did vote for Moon which I haven't seen, but it was directed by David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones who directed. Source Code and that was great.

Richard Maurer

I almost voted for Equilibrium. And I still might do so.

MrKsummer7

Escape From New York (1981) with Cassie’s Mt. Crushmore Kurt Russell. Plus Lee Van Cleef, Donald Pleasence, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau, and the Duke of New York, Isaac Hayes. Directed by John Carpenter (he did the music score too). Forget the rest, I mean c'mon!

Richard Maurer

I feel like a lot of the movies in both polls were mentioned in comments. Good to know.

Dan M

It got my vote, but it may not have enough of a following to make a run for the top.

Just Plain Bob

When I was 15, I awoke one morning in the hospital to discover I’d been in a coma for almost a month. I couldn’t remember what happened to me and assumed I’d been in some sort of catastrophic accident. My mother told me they’d found me that way after trying to watch The Last Starfighter. The doctor said it could happen on rare occasions when someone was so bored that merely falling asleep isn’t enough; the body shuts down as part of a self defense mechanism. Please don’t vote me into another coma.

Cole Jennett

Easiest decision I have ever made. Pacific Rim with a bullet

Vak

"Sunshine" will probably never make the cut, but DAMN that is a good film. Although it might not be Cassie's cup of tea. It has enough light-horror elements that I'm surprised it made it through the door in the first place. I mean, yeah, it's certainly not "Event Horizon," but there's some freaky stuff in there that goes beyond the odd jump-scare. (One of the reasons I decided to change my monthly vote away from "Dark City." It's a classic, just not really Cassie's kind of classic.) Of the ones that got my vote, I'd say that "The Last Starfighter" is the one that's going to have Cassie wearing her signature smile throughout, and possibly even humming the theme. It's wholesome enough that she should really grab Carly for that one, as a lot of it is even better with banter.

Dan M

My top two choices as well.

MikeLL

It is only logical. The movie I most want to see a reaction to is an old favorite that I know like the back of my hand. A movie I love so much that I want to see someone else’s reaction to. I do not want to see a reaction to a movie I have never seen before. What is the point? To see something new? That is not the point of a reaction channel. The most recent films are the ones with the fewest views.

Godzilla Jones

No bad choices here either, but Last Starfighter is an 80s classic and Moon is just a beautiful film

Richard Maurer

Yeah, The Last Starfighter is another 80’s Spielberg wannabe movie. Enemy Mine should have been on the poll instead. So of course it’s winning. At least Batteries Not Included isn’t doing well.

Michael G

Sunshine is Danny Boyle collecting everyone before they became big names. Great movie. I am ride or die for that and 2010 for this poll

Robert Baldino

A lot of bangers in this poll. I have my favorites, but I hope Cassie eventually gets to all of these... Starting with Pacific Rim! Watching Cassie try to wrap her head around both the Kaiju and Mecha genre will be so much fun.

Nick Skelton

I'd say if equilibrium is on the poll, Aeon Flux should be in consideration.

Richard Maurer

And it’s a mediocre (at best) movie from the 80’s too.

Richard Maurer

And I have. Not that it matters at this point.

Richard Maurer

Added a vote for Equilibrium, but its chances don’t look too good.

Tyler Riggs

The fact Pacific Rim has so many votes and Flight of the Navigator doesn’t hurts my heart.

Chris Retzlaff

Flight of the Navigator is tender though

Joe J

Not happy to see "Pitch Black" (2000) is missing.

Richard Maurer

The fact that Pacific Rim doesn’t have more votes hurts mine.

Keith Jacobsen

You owe it to yourself to watch Upgrade, even if it doesn't win.

shaneth138

Yeah my point is that the majority of her fans are older and don’t watch anything new. Which is a bummer for fans of hers that appreciate ALL eras of film. I don’t care about it that much. Just making a joke because almost every poll is like this. But it’s all good, I will just appreciate when she does do newer movies that much more.

Stephen Dias

Personally, I've always had a soft spot for "*batteries not included."

Javier Hernandez

Pacific Rim really surprised me. It had been a while since a movie was so purely presented as a check your head at the door this is pure entertainment with no special messages to be had. Last Starfighter is a gem of a little movie that didn't need a big name attached to be entertaining. I love the Fahrenheit 451 feel of Equilibrium but the pistol duels were kinda meh... I also really love the premise of Oblivion ... would I make the same sacrifice for my family? Save the vampire flick Daybreakers for scary but not too scary October.

Tanggor

Heh. "Oh. Save the whales and not the universe, huh?"

Joe J

Quiet Cassie, your gonna prejudice the poll, lol.

Jack

Once the true greats are gone, Sci-Fi is like Action to me, it sounds good on paper, but is a disappointment in reality.

DAVID COSTELLO

I'm surprised Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1979) isn't on here.

Brian McGovern

Is it telling of the age range of PIB's audience that The Last Starfighter is leading and that she probably watches more classic movies than other reactors.

Clay F

I voted these two: -Escape From New York (1981) -Moon (2009) Prefer Escape from NY (action/sci-fi) over Last Starfighter (sci-fi/family).

Richard Maurer

Sad thing is it’s not even the best 80’s movie in the poll.

Clay F

Yeah -- 1984 is that nostalgia sweet spot for many PiB patrons -- watched The Last Starfighter as a kid (e.g., with their family).

Henry Graham

Upgrade is certainly one of the most criminally overlooked sci-fi features of recent years.

Uncle Phoenix

“Greetings Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star-League, to defend the Frontier from Zur and the Kodan Armada.” Let’s Go!

Chris Thom

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is really clever with an interesting tone. Would probably be one of the more unique films on the channel. Author of that book is very talented.

Chris Thom

The Beach would be a good Danny Boyle for the channel too.

Uncle Phoenix

Remember, Snake Plisskin doesn’t like needles.

Chris Thom

A lot of good ones worth seeing here.

Brett Walker

Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy is prabability going to couch-pillow-flowerpot-whale win.

Philip Alan

Upgrade is so underrated with poor man's Tom Hardy! :)

Chris Davis

It might not win, but you owe it to yourself to watch "2010: The year We Made Contact" to answer all of your questions to "2001: A Space Odyssey". Plus it's a very good movie, I think, on it's own right.

Chris Thom

That actor looks like a fusing of a few famous faces. Still don't know his name though.

Chris Thom

Moon is so good. One of my all time favorite scores for a movie too.

Clay F

The lead character in Last Starfighter (PG) is a high school teen. The lead character in Escape from New York (R) is a badass (former special forces) played by Kurt Russell. I see that Escape from NY is now only 2 points down.

Art of Free Speech

Or Chronicles of Riddick!!! I ADORE Chronicles of Riddick. It's one of my favorite films... like top 20 ever. (but it's fine to watch Pitch Black first... it sets the scene)

Clay F

Currently 12th place (next-to-last of the 13 choices). Looks good. Added to my watchlist.

Stick Figure Studios

I wish FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR had more, but I like PACIFIC RIM.

Stick Figure Studios

If nothing else, LAST STARFIGHTER will finally bring the great Robert Preston to the channel. Maybe it will open the door for more of his marvelously charismatic performances in films like THE MUSIC MAN and VICTOR/VICTORIA.

Raphael Bivas

You listed two of my favorite movies here.

Brian Sheely

When I saw the list, I knew immediately that it would be between Escape from New York and Pacific Rim, because they have the most simplistic plots.

John Cranberry

It's clear by all the selections that no one has seen Upgrade, which is easily the best film on this list.

Popcorn In Bed

see my ps!! i’m going to watch it soon so i didn’t put it on the poll!

Astraeos

This is my pick. I hope she watches it regardless. I feel like Cassie and Carly would both really enjoy that one.

Astraeos

I only want Pacific Rim to win because it's one step closer to Cassie watching more Godzilla movies. I don't even care which one. Pick a Godzilla movie and watch it.

Brett Walker

It might be on the Pre-1980 poll! I have yet to check that one.

Brett Walker

It is on the other poll the "pre-1980" poll.

Clay F

Moon and Escape from NY are the two I voted for.

CJ Holden

I wouldn't go that far, but it's definitely an incredible one.

CJ Holden

I hope ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK wins, but I would be really happy if *BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED would be a runner-up, because this is so obviously a movie that Cassie would enjoy.

CJ Holden

That's one thing I love about Guillermo del Toro. There are not many film makers who have one foot in the arthouses and one foot in the multiplexes like him. He is the multiple prestigious award winning (including the Oscar) winning director who made BLADE II and the HELLBOY movies. And none of them are just paycheck movies that he is ashamed of.

Steve kephart

Wow! This is a tough one. There are many on here that you will love and need to see. I guarantee that you will immediately share Flight of the Navigator with your kids after watching it here.

Steve kephart

It's a cute movie that she is going to enjoy. But I think there are some slightly better options on this list.

Steve kephart

The cinematography and music in Sunshine are amazing.

Mark Vaderr

I am saddened that "Dark City" is not on this list, Cassie you need to see this movie. "The Last Starfighter" is a fun movie as is "Pacific Rim". I'm very pleased to see "Moon" on this list.

Jens Kristensen

"Sunshine" is extremely underrated... I think that Cassie will love "The Last Starfighter" and most of all... "Flight Of The Navigator"...

Jens Kristensen

Looks like its the original 1956-movie...

YodatheHobbit

The winning results so far are as if my stepdad voted on which movie he wanted to turn on in the background while making dinner shirtless on a lazy Sunday in the mid 2000s. Oblivion is pretty damn good, but I don't want it to win this poll. She'll definitely be watching it at some other point just as a Tom fan. Honestly, I'd be happy if she just watched ALL these movies and ANDOR and then she'd be golden in my eyes for the next year. 😄

YodatheHobbit

Said in the tone of Valentina in Thunderbolts. "whut?"

John Mellor

Been waiting for Oblivion to pop up on a 'Tom Cruise poll'. Nice to see its coming in second, shame it will lose to Escape from New York.

YodatheHobbit

I got into STAR WARS relatively late, so when every other kid was rewatching that in the 80s, I was rewatching my copy of "Batteries" recorded off of HBO free preview weekend. What's funny is I didn't see the first couple scenes of the film until about THIRTY YEARS later since the VHS was a pre-timed VCR recording and the started around 8:55PM instead of 9PM.

YodatheHobbit

The fact that both films are great in different ways just makes me happy.

YodatheHobbit

For a second I got concerned because I mixed up Equilibrium with Ultraviolet, and I got scared someone suggested that film. 😂 I say this as a big Milla Jovovich fan, that that film was VERY BAD.

YodatheHobbit

Right there with you on that! it's my Pick of the Month suggestion 99% of the time.

YodatheHobbit

Yeah, I feel like the only way Sunshine will get seen is if enough suggest it for "Pick of the Month".

Clarence Newman

Not much here for me, but I guess I'll vote for Escape From New York. Kurt Russell's always fun to watch.

YodatheHobbit

I saw that movie for the first time only within the past 15 years ago and I just felt like he was playing such a cliche, I really like Kurt in other films though. I actually saw Escape from LA first being too young to see the original in the 90s and for some reason enjoyed that more. I know it's not better, concept wise.

YodatheHobbit

Sounds to me like you may benefit from to seeing more good new movies. If you count some of the films on this poll over 20 years old as "new". I've seen my old favorites get reacted to DOZENS of times from other reactors. Sometimes it feels like wasting your life away, rewatching the same film 10 times in a year, sometimes falling asleep. For 2025 I can't count how many people I watched react to The Mummy for the first time. I don't EVER need to watch a reaction of someone watching Shawshank for the first time ever again, lol. All the reactions to that movie I've seen just kind of blend together in my head being such a common movie to see on YouTube channels. I'd love to see reactions to films which I saw 1-3 times, really enjoyed, but aren't favorites so I didn't buy them on DVD or Blu-ray and haven't seen again for 10 years or so. Pacific Rim and Oblivion are examples of that for me. Another from some different reactors recently for me was "Life in Beautiful"(American Title). It's only logical.

YodatheHobbit

Dang, I love Oblivion and somehow I forgot Morgan is in that.

Mad World

Hitchikers guide dont MISS THAT.......

YodatheHobbit

Yeah, they're very much the "mainstream films" of the bunch. Not that that's a bad thing.

Michael Gilbrook

After having watched 2001, Cassie *has* to watch 2010 to supply her with all the answers to the questions she was left with after the first film!

Mike Lemon

Probably not. Now if it was the 1981 version...

Julian Corbett

Absolutely miss it!!. It's a complete waste of 2hrs, nothing like the books or the radio show or the BBC TV series that is a million times better on 0.001% of the budget!. I've seen it and I wish I could ask for a refund of those hours of my life I lost watching it.

SteveW

If you really want to enjoy 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', read the book or get the BBC Radio edition. The movie is a real letdown IMO.

David Collins

Equilibrium is the best movie on this poll and it's really not even close.

Ria Grix

Obviously Escape from New York is a cult classic… but there are better on this list. Moon, Sunshine and Oblivion.

shaneth138

If it’s post 2010 it will never win a PIB poll 😆

Jason Pratt

Greetings Starfighter!!!!

Jason Pratt

I love the Last Starfighter a little too much. With all the various releases, and the copies I got after my dad passed, I have 8 copies between vhs dvd and blu-ray. I commissioned a comic artist to do a pinup on the arcade to get tattooed on my leg. VICTORY OR DEATH!!’

Andrew Heller

Im glad upgrade and equilibrium are getting love on this board, i suggested them on the pollception comments board, great underrated sci fi flicks

Clarence Newman

No sir, not a great sci-fi fan. How hard are you vouching for it? Because I'm always on the lookout for great new films.

Chris Thom

Been a while, but I don't remember Escape From New York being Sci-fi...? Wasn't it more of a dystopian action movie in the vein of The Running Man?

Chris Thom

It's feeling a bit timely all of a sudden. Been thinking about that one quite a bit lately.

John A

It's a shame Sunshine isn't doing so well

John A

It's a shame Sunshine isn't doing too well. Nothing special but it's definitely interesting and visually enjoyable, plus any excuse to see a young Rose Byrne 🥵

John A

I wonder if I'd like it if I didn't read the books first. Same thing happened to 2001 for me, the book was so good that the movie being too different ruined it for me

John A

But someone said Equilibrium is by far the best on this list. Another few said Escape from New York. Who do I believe?

John A

A young Rose Byrne 🥵

John Mellor

The Tom Cruise film I'm waiting for the most is Valkyrie. Since Cassie is invested in WW2 drama I'm not sure she's aware of this one. Its a bit of a forgotten gem.

Dan M

Of the movies I’m familiar with on the poll, it’s the most entertaining. And a good way to get into some other kaiju films with a couple of other well known monsters. 😉

keoma songs

I suppose that some of the technology shown in the movie was considered futuristic and fanciful science fiction unlike most post apocalyptic movies.

Richard Maurer

It occurred in the (at the time) future, which makes it sci-fi, by the baseline definition.

Matt Dellarosa

Cassie this poll is ridiculous with how many good movies there are on it. You're just gonna have to go down the list and watch them all. Personally I would pass on Pacific Rim and 2010 but that's just me. Not a huge fan of Batteries Not Included but it wasn't terrible and alot of people like it. The rest definately need to be on the channel at some point.

Elliot Nesterman

Sadly, two of the best hard science fiction films of the last several decades are missing: Gattaca (1997) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). Also, the film of Hitchhikers Guide is in nearly every way inferior to the BBC mini-series. It's an object lesson in how to ruin a great script by throwing money at it.

Richard Maurer

I would definitely prefer Flight of the Navigator over The Last Starfighter.

Richard Maurer

Escape from New York passed The Last Starfighter, so my day is starting off a little better.

Clarence Newman

Hey, that's my vote. Too bad I'm not really fussed.

keoma songs

based on the vigorous support so many movies have in these polls, I think it indicates that the available content for this channel can still last for many more years.

Richard Maurer

I’d rather it be Pacific Rim, but EfNY was my second choice. And Last Starfighter is a c-grade Spielberg wannabe.

Matt Rose

EFNY all the way, please.

My_Cousin_Mose

Cassie you should make a reaction to The Green Mile. Very good movie.

My_Cousin_Mose

Children of Men would have been my pick a flick choice but I knew it would eventually get watched. I was right!

Clarence Newman

Ooh, Enemy Mine. Dennis Quaid making Sergeant Foley apologise for mocking Mickey Mouse. That was some great writing. "Sowwy, Dawidge. That was wong."

KJ

Cassie - please watch OTOY Unification. It's an amazing short film about Kirk and Spock. You really need to see it!

AdrianF

She's already done it.

Joe J

Bro, do a search. Gattaca and Spotless are already on the channel, lol.

My_Cousin_Mose

Has she though? It's not on the channel.

Joe J

Adrienne Barbeau is even more fun too watch, lol.

Blake Evans

Talk about an embarrassment of riches! Just watch them all haha. But Moon, Sunshine, and Daybreakers are at the top of my wish list.

Chris Thom

Having a bit of a braindead moment, but I'm having trouble even defining sci-fi right now. I keep thinking of post-apocalyptic like The Road and wondering where that fits. I think the fact that ai is real now and constantly in our lives is throwing me off.

Chris Thom

I think someone mentioned it getting taken down. But I'm like 75 percent sure it was on the channel at some point.

Chris Thom

Yeah I was thinking the other day that she could literally do this for the rest of her life with all allowances.

Clay F

Ditto

Clarence Newman

Always. And even MORE fun to watch in CANNONBALL RUN!

Chris Thom

I thought that was already on the channel for some reason. But not sure.

Clarence Newman

The Full Reaction's still on here but I don't see the YT edit. I suspect the copyright Nazis.

Chris Thom

Really, there was an 80's version??

Clay F

Green Mile was her 5th reaction on the channel 5 yrs ago. I watched full reaction couple of times. Her first five reactions on channel (early 2021): 1. Shawshank 2. 1917 3. Stand by Me 4. Groundhog Day 5. The Green Mile THE GREEN MILE YT edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ks_KBhZ4swQ Full Reaction: https://www.patreon.com/posts/green-mile-full-47241089 The Patreon full reaction link is broke but can be fixed. I see your comment in The Green Mile comments section 5 days ago: "Did you guys lose the file or something?" No, I don't think so -- instead has to do with the problem the channel had with Google a couple of years ago?

Clarence Newman

Just checking something - Testament of Youth, Nine Months, Meet Me in St Louis and The Last Dragon all had full reactions before Justice League and the Assassination of Jessie by Bob the Coward, but while Justice League and Cowardly Bob have had YT edits, none of the others have. Have they all been consigned to the straight-to-video bargain bin?

Nolofinwe

OMG. That is one bad list. LOL. Well there's only one choice Snake Pliskin and Escape from New York. LOL

Clay F

I wouldn't be surprised if those four will remain Patreon exclusive (full reaction with no YT edit) but don't know.

Clay F

Thanks much for planning to react to Children of Men.

Cole Jennett

Sadly, it’s been passed by a few others now.

Clay F

The Google page for Escape from NY gives the genre as "action/sci-fi". Not meaning to be negative to anyone, but glad Running Man not in poll -- we've had enough 80's Arnold.

Joe J

The Assassination of Jessie James got an edit because it has Brad Pitt, Cassie figures it will get enough views. The others you mention would sink without a trace.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - I’d say That’s a fair bet. If any of those can get YT views it would be Last Dragon for the ‘so bad it’s good’ factor. But they don’t seem to want to take chances anymore.

David Livingston

"*batteries not included" and "Flight of the Navigator" are classics - movies that I grew up watching multiple times!!! They're really good!! "Pacific Rim", "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", and "Oblivion" are also very good!!

Andrew Heller

Daybreakers is severely underrated because it came out during the twilight craze, that might have to be saved for October run

Clay F

I've added Upgrade to my watchlist.

Andrew Heller

Im glad escape from ny is winning, def rather have pacific rim like you said but im not into the last star fighter

Clay F

Yeah, 10th place of the 13 choices.

Andrew Heller

If cassie does see these comments, she really just needs to put these all on a list of to watch cause everyone has something to say about all of them!

My_Cousin_Mose

@Clay yeah i really liked her reaction to The Green Mile and have been wanting to rewatch it for some time now. The comments on that video saying the link is broken are 2 years old now. So it's getting a little disheartening to see it still unfixed.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Adrienne Barbeau is the ONLY thing to watch in Cannonball Run .

Andrew Heller

Upgrade is awesome, she might be turned off by the violence but its such a good flick

Andrew Heller

Logan marshall green…was also the first shocker in spiderman homecoming…which is ironic cause he def looks like tom hardy who was venom

Andrew Heller

Im actually surprised she hasnt gotten into that universe yet, but im pretty sure she had mentioned for 2026 she wanted to start doing monster movies

Clay F

Glad to see that Escape from NY surged overnight. I watched Escape from NY in 1981 when released. I had just turned 18 and graduated high school. My friends and I loved it. Repeated group rewatches w/VHS. Thus, have nostalgia. I remember ignoring Last Starfighter when released 3 years later -- thought it kids movie. Never gave it a chance. But I would watch her reaction to Last Starfighter.

Andrew Heller

Was just thinking….how would she have felt about Event Horizon, i guess thats more horror than sci fi

Clarence Newman

You all heard that. Richard just conceded there's a good reason to watch Cannonball Run, outing himself as a closet superfan. Tara Buckman is a second reason and do we really need a third?

Cole Jennett

I’m still thinking Nine Months has a shot as it’s a joint reaction with Carly, and her videos get an extra little boost. Assassination… is doing exactly what I expected Richard. Hope we get a result to our bet one day😉

Blake Evans

Very true. Plus I still say that the Spierig Bros film after Daybreakers, Predestination (2016) is a masterpiece that far too many have seen.

JAKH

Better than anything on the poll: "Alien Nation" (1988) "Outland" (1981) "Tremors 2: Aftershocks" (1996) "Battle: Los Angeles" (2011) "The 6th Day" (2000) "Terminator Dark Fate" (2019) "Evolution" (2001) "Bright" (2017) "Species" (1995) "Strange Days" (1995) "Life" (2017)

Stick Figure Studios

It is a kid's movie, but it's a good kid's movie (perhaps I should say "family movie" as adults can enjoy it too), made at a time when imagination and wonder were more common elements in Blockbuster Cinema. It's also an important film historically from a VFX standpoint since it was, I believe, the first film to move away from models and miniatures and attempted to use "photorealistic" (for its time) CGI for all of the effects sequences.

Chris Thom

Could've sworn all of those were on YouTube. Maybe Mandela Effect though.

Stick Figure Studios

BRIGHT? EVOLUTION? THE SIXTH DAY? I feel like most of the movies you mention here are actually worse than anything on the poll.

Stick Figure Studios

Indeed. When people say things like "she's going to run out of movies to watch," I can't help but think to myself, "This person has absolutely no idea how many movies are actually out there."

Clay F

Stick -- thanks for the good reply. I've read good things about Last Starfighter and would give it a chance. I won't have the benefit of nostalgia but might like it.

Stick Figure Studios

It's good, but I don't know that it's the best and even if it were I would say it's very close to some other titles.

LukeG84

I voted for Equilibrium, but there’s zero chance it’ll win. Shame.

Stick Figure Studios

This is why, if I can help it, I don't read the books before seeing the movies because it really ruins one's ability to be an objective critic of the film.

Stick Figure Studios

I sort of just assume that anyone who says movie X is "easily the best movie on here" has not seen all the movies on here.

LukeG84

Gutted Dune: Part Two didn’t make the cut. I’d have voted for that, even if would have been a rewatch like someone said.

LukeG84

I see The Last Starfighter is in second place. I’d take that over Escape from New York any day of the week.

Stick Figure Studios

I think there are some way better options on here, Steve, and I say that as someone who likes the film.

Cole Jennett

I think she may have even saw it twice in theater

Stick Figure Studios

So would I, frankly, although I do like LAST STARFIGHTER quite a bit.

LukeG84

*seen 😉

LukeG84

Can’t believe she watched it so without us, especially having reacted to part one. 😔

Above Average Dave

Hard disagree with this list, but to each their own.

CJ Holden

I'm surprised to see OBLIVION so high. That seemed to me like a movie that only few people cared about on release and then it just disappeared. A prime example of what "having no cultural footprint" really looks like. (Or are you all confusing it with the Charles Band SciFi Western? Because that's a fun one :D )

John Rando

Wdym, it’s more horror than any horror movie I’ve ever seen

Above Average Dave

For it's time, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK was significant social commentary wrapped in a classic B-movie. This was before the clean-up of Times Square and the gentrification of much of Manhattan. Extremely dangerous neighborhoods existed there and in Brooklyn compared to today, and the Bronx was a very, very tough place. If you go back and read news stories from the late 1970s and early 1980s, NYC and several other U.S. cities (Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, L.A. in particular) were seen as havens for crime and decay. When this film came out it, the idea of turning NYC in the near future into what it was portrayed in the film was met with a lot of commentary saying, "Not too far from the truth."

Clay F

Respectfully disagree, but all opinions welcomed.

Clay F

Do you mean "bad" as slang for "good"? +1 for Snake Pliskin

Clay F

The Google page for Event Horizon gives genre as "Horror/Sci-fi". Not a huge fan to be honest, but I see the movie mentioned and would watch her reaction to Event Horizon.

Chris Thom

It definitely came and went pretty fast. But the movie has some nice cinematography and the story takes some interesting turns.

Chris Thom

Totally forgot about Battle: Los Angeles. Was in the city without a ride for a few hours and that was the first poster I saw. Want to say Hugh Jackman was in it?

Clay F

A 1968 movie reached 100k views. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) = 100k (3 weeks) Assassination of Jesse James = 20k (1 day) Part 1 ZS Justice League = 69k (3 days) Midnight Run = 41k (7 days) The Nice Guys = 80k (8 days) GoT S4:E9-E10 = 94k (2 weeks) Fantastic Four (2025) = 82k (2 weeks) The Rainmaker = 30k (2 weeks) A Christmas Carol (1984) = 47k (1 month) GoT S4:5-6 = 111k (1 month) Wonder Woman (2017) = 125k (1 month) The Manchurian Candidate (2004) = 22k (1 month) Forrest Gump = 311k (2 months)

Richard Maurer

Yeah, nothing really great on your list, sorry. Battle Los Angeles is probably the best one on there and I still didn’t even miss it not being on the poll.

Richard Maurer

Cole - I never meant that Assassination of JJ would do well. Just that it would do better than Nine Months. Still think that’s the case, but it would probably be close.

Richard Maurer

Naw, just watch the clip of her on YouTube. Save yourself the headache (and possible stomachache) of watching the full CR movie.

Richard Maurer

Opinions - we all have them, it’s just that some people think theirs are facts.

keoma songs

I do think the Last Dragon would do solid numbers in a YT Edit and possibly get as many views as a normal video. The CinePals Reaction video to it has 105k views. You, Me, and the Movies did it and got 30k views, which is about the same as their videos for ... Point Break - 28k on YMM, 218k PiB Glory - 31k YMM, 280k PiB Cape Fear - 28k YMM, 80k PiB Mission Impossible Rogue Nation - 31k YMM, 237k PiB Monster Squad - 27k YMM, 42k PiB I suspect The Last Dragon has more pop culture relevance for the Gen-X and older crowd that the PiB powers are aware of.

JAKH

@ Chris Thom Aaron Eckhart & Bridget Moynahan There was another movie with a very similar name the same year with Nia Peeples that was terrible. Don't confuse them. :)

Story Archer

Plus, you know Carli/Cassie likes TC...

Clay F

"Escape From New York" (1981) is the only movie with over 300 votes. Running away with it? Current votes of Top 6: 1. Escape from NY (sci-fi/action) (R) = 339. Lead is Snake (former special forces). 2. Last Starfighter (1984) (sci-fi/family) (PG) = 291. Lead is high school teen. 3. Oblivion = 280 4. Pacific Rim = 256 5. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy = 249 6. Moon (2009) = 223

Barry

I would watch both.

Brett Richey

How is Escape from New York Sci-Fi?

Clay F

Escape from NY is available to stream for free on Amazon if you are a subscriber. If not a subscriber, can rent for $3.99. Kurt Russell said that his character in Escape from NY is "certainly the most iconic character I’ve ever played.”

Richard Maurer

Cassie’s collaboration with Kat from KatWatchesHorrorMovies goes up tomorrow on Patreon, so the YT edit shouldn’t be too far behind.

Steve Mercier

There's a lot of good stuff on here, but I usually pick the one I think you're going to enjoy the most (based on nothing more than...well, my brain, I guess). Not sure what to pick here...gonna' go with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, what the hell!

keoma songs

A short bald British man is President of the United States ? But also, the tech behind Snake's motivation seemed kind of sci-fi if I remember right and not confusing it for Escape from LA

Cole Jennett

She liked it so much she couldn’t resist “sawing it”😉 in the theatre right away.

Mike Lemon

1981 was the BBC show (about 2 1/2 hours total).

Johnny Bullis

Come on guys.. The Last Starfighter.. lets do it.

keoma songs

Let's go Last Starfighter! Nothing against a Escape From NY, I like it, I admire it, I enjoy Lee Van Cleef, I own it on multiple formats, I like Escape from LA! .... But it has an outsized reputation as an action movie. It's deceptively boring if you aren't captivated by Kurt Russell, which I admit Cassie and most people are

keoma songs

I think Oblivion's lack of success contributed to the sinking of Edge of Tomorrow. Flying metallic looking tendril things with Tom Cruise firing future rifles against the backdrop of a hazy cloudy white sky ... Released just a year apart? I think there was too much fatigue for EoT to succeed

Stick Figure Studios

It's a charming film and I'd love to see it win, but there appears to be too many people in here who either don't like it or are at best indifferent to it.

Just Plain Bob

Anyone that’s interested in seeing Cassie’s most recent collaboration with Kat, now would be the time to join Kat’s Patreon channel. She’s dropped a post that the reaction goes up tomorrow. I loved their “Weapons” collab and this promises to be a good one.

Stick Figure Studios

OBLIVION is great, but I don't think as many people know about it as they do most of these other titles.

Stick Figure Studios

I like both, but STARFIGHTER has more nostalgic appeal for me.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, without the nostalgia goggles it'll probably seem very cheesy to you, but there plenty of solid (and even a few stellar) elements to it to make it an entertaining watch.

Gray

Pretty sure she said it will posted here too

Clay F

I was glad to see Moon (2009) crack the Top 6.

Mark White

It’s a funny old mix this Poll. So, I haven’t seen some, Upgrade, Daybreakers, The Year we made Contact. My wish was “Sunshine” what a great Sci-fi. One of the best imo. Great cast and one of my Favourite directors. Great score to boot. Other favourites of mine are “Moon” with the amazing Sam Rockwell giving a great Performance. “Flight of the Navigator” is a big nostalgic movie for me. I had been to the movies before this, but for some reason this one was just me and mom and it has such fond memories. Later in my life me and my future Wife bonded over it chatting at a bar. It was a big favourite of Lucy’s as well. Oblivion I quite liked that one, but I do think Cassie might enjoy her man Cruise again as well as Morgan freeman and a small role for a GoT actor?! HGttG, I’ve not seen the movie, but the 80’s TV series was Bonkers 😂 Batteries not included is just about ok imo, but I do think it’s a Cassie movie. Equilibrium has some amazing fight sequences and is a good idea for a movie with the always good Christian Bale. But it just lacks something for me. I always felt it could have been more. The last Starfighter, is a movie I have not seen since a kid. So maybe it’s time again, but, I remember just not enjoying it the first time. But we talking 40 year ago! “Escape from New York” looks like a winner. I do like this movie, maybe I’m not as obsessed with as my mate Martin, who can quote every line!! But he loves those made for TV sci-fi comedies, like the Sharknado’s and Lavalantula, Stonados, Zomebeavers etc 🤦‍♂️ so he is not a good voice for EfNY! Anyway you lot are you crazy? Nobody gets to meet the Duke. You meet him once and then you're dead!

Chris Thom

Yay finally a free one.

Clay F

Like I said, I would watch a Starfighter reaction. I am more positive after researching it in consideration of this poll. Also, Escape from NY is not perfect to me.

Chris Thom

I think Weapons was exclusively for PIB. But very curious how the monetization works for joint reactions if they both posted the same thing. Thinking they'd probably require a re-edit.

Chris Thom

Always wondered who they actually made those insane SYFY movies for. It's Martin, apparently. But I can't really judge because I LOVED the one with the haunted escape room. lol

Chris Thom

YES. Thank you. Almost said Chris Evans too, but that's the one.

James M

This result will almost certainly get a pass from me. Never liked "Escape From NY". I guess I'd give "The Last Starfighter" another watch assuming I can find a cheap rental.

James M

Even more than Elvis (who he played twice)? Maybe he confused iconic with campy?

Mark White

He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and totally Bonkers! 🤪 but his movie taste leaves a lot to be desired! The first time I clapped eyes on him it was 18 years ago at an interview at the Zoo, he was wearing bright red Clown pants! And walked like a drunk Jack Sparrow! I said to my boss “on your head be it if you hire him!” She did hire him and ended up being one of my best mates!

Jason Pratt

While some of my favorites aren’t showing well, I’m pleasantly surprised The Last Starfighter is fairing as well. Flight of the Navigator and Batteries not Included hit me in the nostalgia hard.

Clay F

He was good as Elvis, including his voice in Forrest Gump.

Clay F

Oblivion (2013) [starring Tom Cruise] [a movie made in the 21st century] has surpassed The Last Starfighter (1984) to take 2nd place. I liked Oblivion ok, but think I would rather give Starfighter a watch.

JohnnyUtah

Very good choices, oblivion is a must, I think it looks incredible. Also love Escape from NY and Last Starfighter. I do think you missed Edge of Tommorrow/ Live Die Repeat though.

John Rando

I’m not a fan either. It’s an extreme, unnecessarily grotesque movie. It’s more extreme than The Exorcist and Hereditary. They Live would be a good Sci-Fi/Horror. Maybe this Halloween 🤞

Sean

It’s the most Sci-Fi film on the list.

Mike Lemon

Off topic- The beta site isn't accepting my password. Is Ben doing an update or something, or is it just for me?

Gray

this was posted earlier today - In an effort to consolidate and simplify the systems used I'm in the middle of moving everything from one database to another, as well as changing our authenticator. First time doing this, and there are obvious issues (if you've been trying to use the website you'd know). All account data is still good (comments, pick-a-flick, requests etc), it'll just take a bit more time to get it in working order.

Allen W. McDonnell

I chose Flight of the Navigator as my top pick, it is badly underrated IMO!

Stephen Dias

I like, and actually own, Alien Nation; the others never really appealed to me, for some reason.

Chris Thom

Same with BNI. I think that was filmed in the Goonies town. Along with Kindergarten Cop and Free Willy.

Clay F

Popcorn Requests lists Edge of Tomorrow as "seen"

Steve kephart

I completely agree with your take on all these movies.

McShades

Ahh, I was hoping Real Steal was going to be on the poll... still, there are some great choices up there.

Sarah Frost

Come on The Last Starfighter!

Just Plain Bob

I’m a huge fan of John Carpenter and EfNY is certainly no exception. He and Kurt Russell are one of the best director/actor tandems in history. That said, it’s with some trepidation that I anticipate Cassie’s reaction. It’s a movie sold on Kurt Russell’s tough guy demeanor and I doubt she’ll like his character that much. As for your buddy’s love of SyFy Channel B budget movies, it sounds like you’d do well to heed his word on cinema. The man clearly knows his classics, particularly anything that Roger Corman produced that played on the channel in the 90s and early 2000s.

prime78

Same notstalgic feelings, seeing The Flight of the Navigator on the Sunday night disney movies on television. Enjoying the Last Starfighter on vhs.

prime78

What?! no Battlefield Earth? Just kidding, that was one movie we actually left the theatre before finishing

CJ Holden

Yeah, nothing against the movie itself. I'm just surprised how many fans it suddenly seems to have.

Walter

I have been submitting Real Steel for my popcorn pick a flick since that started! I love that movie and think Cassie and Carly would love it too

Stewart Menzies

My number 1 choice is Oblivion. Excellent movie with Tom Cruise.

Mark White

Oblivion seams to be slowly moving up the field! Every time I look it’s got a few more.

Mark White

Shame about “Sunshine” awesome sci-fi imo. Think it was Cassie’s choice as well. But, it’s got a second chance every month in PaF, Kaiielle usually sticks it in. 🫰

Buran Doyon

Shame to see Upgrade in next to last place. That would be a wild ride with Cassie. Otherwise, happy with the leaders with the exception of Pacific Rim...

Just Plain Bob

The Kat/Cassie collab full reaction to Scarface just posted to Kat’s channel. This’ll be a good one!

Elliot Nesterman

Thanks for the reminder, Guys. I nearly always do a search before making recommendations. Why I didn't this time I can only put down to over-eagerness.

Just Plain Bob

I may watch ‘em side by side with the movie. A stereo Cassie/Kat collab to a classic gangster film. It’s gonna be a hoot!

Just Plain Bob

Not to be greedy but we need one Kat/Cassie collab a month. I love how their different reactions to the same material juxtapose - it’s very interesting to see that contrast. Of course, the fact that they’re my two favorite reactors (by a fairly wide margin) undoubtedly influences my perception.

Clarence Newman

SHUT THE FRICK UP!!! SCARFACE!!?? OK, I'm up doing the Ray Lewis squirrel dance right now. If Cassie's collabs with Kat are going to be to films like Scarface, then HELL YES!!

Clarence Newman

Cassie's "edit" is going to be the full movie, right?

Jimmy Stewart

Uuhggg, so many good ones, what to choose?

Mark White

WHAT!! Shut the front Door!! 😮 SCARFACE! if this is a joke! I won’t be laughing! OMG! Is this true???! It’s one of my favourite movies of all time!!!!!!

Mark White

Clarence is this actually true??! Because I’m freaking out!

Mark White

Please?! A full reaction!

Mark White

I’m going to need some serious space in the comments when Cassie posts this!

Just Plain Bob

Yes, it’s true. Kat announced the collab and movie a while back on one of her lives. It’s up on her channel right now. I assume Cassie will also be posting the full reaction. I was shocked when Kat first announced it. I knew she was starting to do reactions to non-horror, but I was surprised (and delighted) that she chose this one. I am particularly looking forward to the reaction to the bathroom/chainsaw scene and the “Say hello to my little friend” scene. I’ve got a feeling the second one will elicit a “so that’s where that’s from” remark from Cassie.

Xavier Casanova

Damn, Upgrade getting beat by *batteries not included is rough. I think it's because few have seen it. It's amazing.

Mike Lemon

If only they would backup/mirror the reactions to another site...but they don't.

My_Cousin_Mose

@Mike seems like a good idea for security purposes at the very least.

Joe J

Not a fan of collabs for the most part, I find differing reactor styles jarring and distracting.

Mike Lemon

Yep, I've been saying that for years. How many reactions have been taken down from YouTube and how many took a bunch of edits to pass initial copyright?

Richard Maurer

Clarence I knew this a month ago or so and kept my mouth shut about it. That wasn’t easy.

Richard Maurer

We’re missing out on John Travolta in his “alien” wig.

Clarence Newman

Muzzle toff, Richard. I would've broken like a warm Mars bar if I had to keep a secret like that!

Richard Maurer

Any movie in this poll getting beat by *Batteries Not Included would be bad.

Andrew Heller

Upgrade is such a good underrated movie along with equilibrium

Gro Do

She would LOVE flight of the Navigator

Gro Do

Right? This is kinda tough for me.

Clay F

Good movie

Happy Hanukkah

"Nobody gets to meet the Duke. You meet him once and then you're dead!" That's why Bob's known as the "Duck of Death."

Clay F

Upgrade looks interesting.

Yaisu

I'm sad there's no Snowpiercer or Soldier on here but I'm not surprised. So few know about them.

Richard Maurer

Escape from New York is a fun movie, as long as you don’t take it too seriously. As it clearly was meant to be an over-the-top action movie, primarily.

Richard Maurer

If this were a fair universe we live in they’d just pretend like Pacific Rim was in second place and then watch the second place movie too. Seriously though, Pacific Rim would do much better on YouTube than Last Starfighter. Probably better Than Escape from New York too.

Clay F

Oblivion is 2nd

Richard Maurer

Whatever. Pacific Rim would do better than Oblivion too, so my point stands.

Joe J

I think Cassie will watch the Top 2 from each poll. Why? Because she wants to see her boy Tom in Oblivion, lol. Good Carly watch also.

Brett Richey

@Chris Thom I'd say The Running Man is Sci-Fi, so now I'm doubting my own logic. I suppose it comes down to how much Sci is in the Fi. That and complete subjective opinion.

OddThomas

Sunshine is in my top 4 on Letterboxd, just sayin

Joe J

I don't see a link anywhere to the new web app. Can we use it now?

Mark Vaderr

Pacific Rim would be a great watch. I really thought it would've been one of the top 2 vote getters.

Dean Holt

Shame Last StarFighter didn’t win. But Escape From NY is quite a fun film and If Cassie decides to watch the 2nd Oblivion a very good Sci-Fi too.

Brandon

Voted for oblivion, but im writing in Greenland with Gerald Butler. His movies are hit or miss for me, but this one is good. Also, tomorrow war with Chris Pratt.

Happy Hanukkah

Proving yet again: patrons love Lee Van Cleef.

Chris Thom

Didn't expect Oblivion to do so well. Kind of an under the radar sort of film. Really interesting plot twists. A bit ahead of its time.

Chris Thom

Can't remember if that Tom Cruise one where he dies over and over was any good....?

Brandon

Edge of tomorrow, I like it. She has seen that one I believe.

Shawn Kildal

Greenland would be a great choice for a movie for Cassie to react to. It's hardly ever requested as far as I've noticed unfortunately
