Edgar Gonzalez

Oh man! Cassie the world is YOURS...and everything in it. ♥️💪

Just Plain Bob

Speak of the devil and he shall come. Here it is! Many, many more Cassie/Kat collabs please!

Wes

Say hello to my little friend! Thanks Cassie 😁

Uncle Phoenix

Woohoo! Wait?!? Christmas isn’t in February.

Rosario Cicero

Scarface was not on my Cassie/Kat part 2 bingo card

Juan Cantu

This is a pleasant surprise. Rush rush to the yeyo!

Shehab Dawoud

Wtf. That might've been the last thing I expected! I'm pretty sure I already know how you'll feel about this, but I still can't wait to go through it. If you could share what was the reason that you decided to watch Scarface?

K, Zachary

Does it actually matter what channel we watch it on? Since we are both on the highest tier for both of you? I am sure it doesn't.

Edgar Gonzalez

" SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND" ! Classic epic BADASS line.

John Drake

Take it to the limit! Well this is my evening sorted

Choof

Did NOT see this coming haha

Mark White

I am beyond excited! 😃

Edgar Gonzalez

" So say goodnight to the bad guy"... " It's the last time you'll see a bad guy like this, il tell you that"

Phil Stubblefield

I never really thought I'd rewatch this movie, but the combination of Kat and Cassie may just prove too magnetic to resist! 🤩

Big Lazy Dragon

"SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!" Get ready to watch one of the most violent movies in movie history.

Richard Maurer

Knew this was coming (Kat already said so awhile ago). Interesting choice for a collaboration. I’ll probably watch this tomorrow when I get the time.

Jake McNulty

Well this certainly is a surprise! Great film to be sure, but just as good (and in my opinion, dare I say, better) is Pacino and De Palma's later collaboration "Carlito's Way" (1993). Absolutely worth checking out if you're interested.

MrKsummer7

The World Is Yours Cassie!

Dan M

Oh boy! I feel a record number of “Oh my goshes!!” coming our way. This should be fun and interesting with Kat watching along with you.

Clay F

What a nice surprise. I definitely have nostalgia.

Omar

Whaaaaaaaaat?

Dan M

No Carly?!?! Why?!?!?!

Just Plain Bob

We need more Brian De Palma movies on the channel. Some suggestions: Sisters - stars Margot Kidder (aka Lois Lane) Phantom of the Paradise - rock n roll musical excellence Dressed to Kill - Michael Caine is a psychiatrist as a serial killer stalks the city Blow Out - John Travolta in an pretty good rip off of the Italian film “Blow-Up” Body Double - Melanie Griffith in a pretty good rip off of a pair of Hitchcock films (to name them would spoil important plot elements) Carlito’s Way - reteaming with Pacino as an ex-con trying to go straight Snake Eyes - Nic Cage is a corrupt cop trying to do the right thing And here’s one to avoid: The Black Dahlia. It’s beautifully shot but otherwise terribly executed. I very much looked forward to it after seeing “L.A. Confidential” (both movies are based on one of James Ellroy’s “L.A. Quartet” of books). Unfortunately, it’s just not well done - fell completely flat for me.

JPDotCom23

Whoa! Nice! Can’t wait to watch this tonight. Oliver Stone wrote this movie.

Grégory Gautier

I never would've believed you'd actually watch that movie (it's nice that you saw it!). Now you can't say no to Paul Verhoeven's "Basic Instinct". Last time I suggested it, you said it was impossible, but compared to Scarface, it's nothing..

Walter

Scarface??? Oh man, that is a surprise. I can’t imagine you’ll like it, but I’ve been wrong before. I can’t wait to watch this? I guess? 😀 it’s not my favorite, but I can’t pass up this team up reaction.

Samuel Champ

I'm not sure "surprise" is a strong enough word.

Rick Rodriguez

Wow. Never would've guessed Scarface. But happy surprise! Love this movie.

JL_83

never in a million years would I have guessed that this movie would be the one they’d watch…say hello to our YouTube friends!

Johnny

Well this is a surprise..

Shehab Dawoud

I love this film, but I also hate it at the same time because it was the start of Pacino's loud. overacting arc. Since then, he's done very few films that are subtle and nuanced, like many of the things he did in the 70s. I don't think this is a top 5 Pacino performance. This is a classic and a pop culture reference, but just as a film, I think it's slightly on the overrated side. I hear people put it in their top 10 all-time, and to me, it's nowhere near that level. But it is a rewatchable, despite all the violence and drugs. You catch Scarface an hour in on TV, you gotta watch the rest! Brian De Palma is a master. You've seen Carrie, The Untouchables, and Mission Impossible 1, and there are still many more left. My favorite is Carlito's Way with Pacino and Sean Penn. I'd still like to know what the exact reason was that your choice landed on this.

DSM The Editor

Yay, was hoping you'd get to this! It's a fascinating pick because Tony is the complete opposite of Michael Corleone: where Michael is cool, calculating, and born into power, Tony is chaotic, impulsive, and has to fight for it, and then ironically, it's his small glimmer of morality that ultimately dooms him.

Stick Figure Studios

"Never get high on your own supply." Regardless of what one thinks of the film itself (and I think it's pretty good myself if a bit lurid), It certainly one of the best movie posters ever created. It's such a striking black and white graphic image and it adorns every college boy's dorm room wall from the '90s to today. ;-) Well, with SCARFACE, Cassie, you have now seen four Brian DePalma films (the others being MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, THE UNTOUCHABLES and CARRIE). Next I would recommend either CARLITO'S WAY (also with Pacino) or what I consider to be his masterpiece BLOW OUT with John Travolta.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, CARLITO'S WAY is great. I was also recommending DePalma's BLOW OUT with John Travolta.

Richard Maurer

Phantom of the Paradise is an underrated movie.

Stick Figure Studios

CARLITO'S WAY is great. I also recommended BLOW OUT with John Travolta (his masterpiece imo).

Stick Figure Studios

All good recommendations... and I agree about BLACK DAHLIA. Awful film. Also, OBSESSION and RAISING CAIN are good DePalma flicks.

bgb1975 (Brian)

WOW! Color me surprised! Great film....looking forward to watching it with Cassie.... I wonder if she [will] like[d] it! :) "What's coming to you, Tony?" "The world, chico. And everything in it!" I think "And Justice For All" is one of Pacino's best. I'd like to see Cassie watch that one.

Shehab Dawoud

Yes that’s a great film. I like his Hitchcock inspired films too.

Popcorn In Bed

no! just give it a view when she releases the YT edit on her channel!

MrKsummer7

The Fury (1978) - Kirk Douglas, John Cassavetes, Amy Irving

Cole Jennett

From the clues you had given, I was guessing Taxi Driver.

fastecp1

Great list, I love Dressed to Kill and Body Double.

Clay F

Yes, that was some real footage of the Cuban immigration (1980 Mariel Boatlift) at the very beginning of the movie. The Cuban immigration in Scarface (1983) is based on real events, specifically the 1980 Mariel Boatlift, where Fidel Castro allowed roughly 125,000 Cubans to flee to the U.S. I remember when the Mariel Boatlift happened -- highly reported on the news.

fastecp1

I was thrilled to see that this was going to be Scarface. When it first came out, I was 21 and wanted to be Tony Montana or Bruce Lee, but eventually I grew up and realized it's okay just to be me. Al Pacino is such a great actor. Here are some more movies with him you should consider watching: Serpico (1973), Sea of Love (1989), Carlito's Way (1993), Donnie Brasco (1997), and The Insider (1999). I think you've seen The Devil's Advocate, and I know you've seen Heat, which is one of my favorite movies.

Zane From Canada

Chi Chi looking like Bruno Mars. "Hey, man. You got a job." 😂

Clay F

At 20, I loved this movie in 1983 when released. Sad movie. Al Pacino is incredible. Agree that he steals every scene he is in. The quote “I always tell the truth, even when I lie” you noted in the outro is one I've remembered. Also agree that Scent of a Woman is good.

YodatheHobbit

I see people's guesses when this movie was teased on the livestream were right. I've only seen it once before, and was lucky enough to see it projected from reel film(pun intended) in a movie theater on "classic movie night" in 2009-ish before the theater went digital. After this rewatch though, I've realized I missed more of the movie than I thought I did that night at the theater. I came in late and I didn't realize the beginning of the film was taken straight from the headlines of recent years before 1983. I came into the theater during the "tongue scene". So that was my first impression of the two leads.😄 After seeing the whole movie now, I liked the first part for the brief history lesson, but didn't like most of it too much. For me Tony's behavior and actions at the end are so terrible and stupid that it removed any investment I had. He had the world, and didn't value it. It makes the whole ending implausible to me and as if there aren't any stakes. Like a joke. He went from dislikable to diplorable. I don't give a damn about anyone in the film after that. it was nice to see Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio(Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Abyss) in something again. She looks so much like my former bandmate. Gonna watch the episode of South Park now where the boys shoot up a place like the ending for fun now. 😂

Dan M

🤣 Of course not…but how funny would that have been if she was part of this reaction?

K, Zachary

Actually it's been decided we're watching both on her channel. Only because she did a booped me with her pen during her last life event on Jan. 10th....??? That was the day we laid flowers.... nevermind

Steve Mercier

Typically speaking, cinephiles love this movie. It's...not my cup of tea. Love Pacino. Love Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, F. Murray Abraham, Robert Loggia, Harris Yulin--there's a lot to love here. Just not for me. No hate to anyone who enjoys it. Catch you next time around.

Jay Davis

My power is still out and I'm trapped in a hotel but I'm watching this as soon as I get back home.I love this movie and I love Kat's reactions so you two together is going to be great on this one

Just Plain Bob

Cassie, crack is produced from cocaine. Unlike regular cocaine, which is snorted, crack is smoked. In my old job (investigating public corruption), I was involved in several investigations of police evidence rooms. We always had a police officer present when we needed to inventory the evidence rooms, for proper chain of custody. Inevitably, we’d get to chatting (such inventories take days or weeks, depending on size). Without exception, every officer I worked with hated drugs of every stripe. But they particularly hated crack. Apparently, the high it produces is much more immediate but also wears off much sooner. Meaning the addict seeks more drugs more frequently than with regular cocaine.

Clarence Newman

Legendary movie, and I'm looking forward to watching it with Cassie (and Kat) tomorrow. Not sure how good the YT edit is going to be though. I'm thinking a good 65% of it will be beeped out, while Cassie's jaw remains in her lap from start to finish.

Ted Whalen

Our company has an office in Dublin, Ireland. I always have a good chuckle when some from the Dublin office says that they are going out for some good craic!

Just Plain Bob

Yet another movie recommendation: Into the Night. It stars Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfeiffer. You liked Goldblum before, but this is the movie that’ll make you fall in love with him. I stumbled across it on cable late one night as a teenager and immediately fell in love with the movie and Ms. Pfeiffer. In a town filled with beautiful women, she is absolutely luminous. And Goldblum is charming enough to make you think he might actually have a chance with her (watch the movie to find out if he does).

Clarence Newman

Good insight, Bob. Of course, Cassie could just watch The Wire - a truly great series about the influence and effects of hardcore drugs.

Rick Moreno

Say "hello" to my little friend!!

Shehab Dawoud

She has not seen The Devil’s Advocate. I’ve tried to get it on the last few Octobers.

Gray

I guessed right then all the clues just pointed to this, great movie and enjoyable reaction. Al Pacino is just force of nature as Tony in this & what were they snorting thinking of nominating Brian De Palma for a Razzie. Going to be honest I was a bit apprehensive going into this reaction as I wasn't a big fan of the Weapons collab but this was a good watch. Tony failed big time on rule number two haha

Gregory L Costello

All the info and film about Cuba in the beginning is accurate. From 1975 till 1990 Cocaine was the drug of choice. By the 1990s it was replaced by crack cocaine, a cheaper but deadlier form of cocaine mixed with baking soda. During the 1980s cocaine was a pop culture phenomenon, it was everywhere. It was the drug of choice of the rich and famous. World wide it was a 100 billion dollar a year business and in Hollywood it was a 100 million dollar a year business. Many of the 80s stars you like went into rehab for cocaine addiction. The Betty Ford Center opened in 1982 to help the rich and famous kick their cocaine addictions. Drug Kingpin's were making hundreds of millions of dollars and they just couldn't stop. Because cocaine was soo big in Hollywood and this film depicted it in a bad way it was totally snubbed by the Hollywood elite. That's the true reason it was given such bad ratings. South American hit squads are real even today, and I remember so many news stories about cartel hit squads that there were video games about them. When a person is high on coke they feel virtually no pain.

Above Average Dave

100% on BLOW OUT. I think that movie marked John Travolta announcing himself as a serious actor. His range in that one is just fantastic.

Omar

Before or after Catwoman?? Waaaaaay before!

John A

This movie was not well received at the time. It was at the time, called too violent, too much profanity. and pushed the limits of even the R rating at the time. Pacino, accent was criticized for being over the top. Because of all that, it got a lot of bad reviews from critics. Although the direction I felt was great De Palma was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award, which is crazy. It was over time that it gain a following and then became loved. it did well at the box office, but not from critics. "Say Hello to My Little Friend" is now so iconic even to those who have not seen it.

Mark White

Cassie, firstly, thank you and that was a BIG surprise today. Secondly, I’m sorry for what I assume will be a ridiculously long comment! Ok, your reaction was exactly what I expected it to be. Shocked, looking away, ears I imagine bleeding from the insane amount of F bombs! Even though this is a Top 10 movie for me, it’s was never going to be a top 10 reaction from you for me. It’s just not a Cassie movie by any stretch of the imagination, which is why I have never asked for this movie. I think. No. I know my favourite reactions from you are when you really love the characters and become emotionally connected with them like with LotR or the Lethal Weapons. That was never going to happen here and that’s ok! You said Tony is not a character you would root for. No he definitely isn’t! I found that refreshing about this movie. I feel Cassie you need to root for a character in a story to really enjoy it. Maybe I should tell you why I love it so much. I still remember where and when I first saw this movie. At my mates house when I was about 21. I remember the shock in my system when the movie ended with that iconic finish! that score playing! As the camera slowly moves up with the words “the world is yours” It just stuck with me more than any other movie I had ever seen at that point in my life. I felt totally sucked Into the movie by this character who like you said, stole every scene, As I thought more about the movie I realised something. I never at any point thought I’m watching Al Pacino! When I watch a movie, I (apart from a few exceptions like this one) am always aware of the actors playing the role. So Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt etc I know what ever character they are, I still know I’m watching them play a character. But I never crossed my mind I’m watching Al Pacino. It was a person called Tony Montana! That for me is the magic of this movie and indeed of this masterclass in acting from a true great! You said “It’s surprising it’s as iconic as it was I don’t even know if I like the guy” I think for me it’s down to some good directing, story telling, great editing in parts. That haunting score when you get an iconic scene, it makes you feel the tension!! But mostly for me that performance from Pacino. Now there is an argument to be had over this movie and another great Pacino movie of the same genre called “CARLITO’s WAY 1993. Some say “Carlitos way” is a superior movie, where as, the best performance from Pacino is in Scarface. Personally I love Scarface more. BUT, if you want a movie of this genre, starring Pacino, where you can get behind a character, “Carlitos way” is it. I really think you would prefer it and it’s got a proper love story too. Anyway thank you for this wonderful surprise. I bet you will never forget the name Tony Montana!

Mark White

I too suggested “Carlitos way” I think it’s a movie of this genre and starring Pacino, which Cassie will prefer. Cassie likes a movie where she can get behind a character and a love story too helps.

Mark White

This movie is so quotable! 😆

Mark White

Really?! Cassie told you “Basic Instinct” was impossible? For the channel?

Mark White

Looking back over these comments, just how quotable is this movie 😆

Daniel John

Lol even I was afraid to watch this movie for awhile. Cassie is an all grown up movie goer now 🥹

Tyler Hale

I always tell the truth even when I lie

Tyler Hale

The original is great too but the remake has a cult classic charm and is incredibly quotable.

Clay F

Clarence, +1 for The Wire.

Steve Holton

Yes, well spotted the odd choice of this title. "Scarface" was used because there was an immensely successful film named "Scarface" from the 1930's and this film was pitched and greenlit as a reimagining of that story. The 1930's "Scarface" film was a take on the rise of gangster Al Capone, though the character in that film was renamed to avoid any kind of legal issue or public decency problems. But the audience was meant to know the 1930's story was a take on Al Capone, because Al Capone's nickname was "Scarface" due to 3 prominent scars on his face and neck from a knife fight. Other than establishing a connection to the earlier film, any scars placed on Pacino's face are just so people didn't walk out of the film in the first few minutes claiming they were misled. 😊

Milton Reduxed

I like the part where that guy says 'mang'

Milton Reduxed

For most people a 'mountain of cocaine' is just a turn of phrase, but for Tony Montana it's a Tuesday

Stephen Dias

Oh nice! I need to check this out!

2-Can

I haven’t seen Kat before, she won me over. Since nobody has mentioned them yet, I’ll put forward both New Jack City (1991) for another look at the explosion of drugs and - for truly memorable Michelle Pfeiffer - The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989 - with The Dude himself). As I recall when this movie was first released, word of the chainsaw scene in particular spread quickly and really tagged the movie. The Columbian gangs were every bit that violent - and far worse, really - but the audience was not ready for it to be in mainstream entertainment. Pablo Escobar was at the beginning of a run that terrorized Columbia and had our government (state and federal) unable to cope with the potential (the things he did in Columbia are kind of unfathomable to consider happening here - and he even got himself elected to their Congress because of it).

Mike Lemon

What a kick-off for love month.

Mister Lou

Merry Christmas, happy new year and February! 😆 great reaction ladies! I can't wait for another collab.. maybe Scent of a Woman?

mitchhamilton64

idk how much of a video game person you are but there was actually a video game "sequel" to this movie called "Scarface: The World is Yours". its pure fan fiction where it starts at where the movie ends with tony turning the tables on his would be assassins and escaping. you as the player then have to get your empire back with many references and quite a faithful adaptation to this movie. video games inspired by movies a lot of the times can be miss, cheaply made but this really put in the work to put you into the world of scarface, with cameos from actors from the movie, such as the actor for sosa reprising his role as you go on to take him and his organization on. manny's actor shows up, so does frank. just a childhood classic, amazing game.

Keith Jacobsen

Tony's weapon at the climax is an M16 rifle with a (fake) M203 single-shot 40mm grenade launcher attached under the barrel, serious firepower if you're either a serviceman or drug kingpin.

prime78

I have never seen Scarface. I don't look forward to watching gangster movies in general because of the violence they have in them, and these are not good people. Having said that these type of movies have good narratives. Donnie Brasco was one that i often think about.

MrKsummer7

What bad habit do Tony Montana and Carlito Brigante have in common?

bgb1975 (Brian)

Always felt kind of bad for Mrs. Montana. She tried desperately to protect Gina from Tony, but couldn't.

JPDotCom23

Al Pacino considers this his best performance, his favourite one. This is a remake, of sorts, of the 1932 Paul Muni movie of the same name, no reason to call it 'Scarface', they just do. Movie was panned by critics when it first came out, it was quite violent and excessive. It's only gotten more popular over the years because young people who loved it, initially, grew up and kept talking about it and bragging about it to a point where generations of guys felt they should watch it, as part of a male ritual. Pacino and Michelle Pfieffer reunited, years later, in 'Frankie & Johnny', a love story of sorts, directed by Garry Marshall of 'Pretty Woman' fame.

Clay F

+1 for Donnie Brasco. Excellent performances by Al Pacino and Johnny Depp.

Mark White

Keith is that the same gun as Dutch had in Predator?

Clarence Newman

Just finished watching this. What a great reaction, something that often happens with great movies Cassie doesn't particularly enjoy. I don't think she enjoyed this, but it certainly riveted her from start to finish. She did pretty well with the profanity too, except the bit right after Tony kills Sosa's hitman in the car. With f-bombs coming at her like hailstones, she literally could not purse her lips hard enough. Kudos to Kat too. It's funny to see how violence and crazy stuff make her face light up. She's also clearly in love with Steven Bauer, and if she and Cassie want to watch some more of him for their next collab, they could do a lot worse than Running Scared. Thanks for your influence, Kat. I'm not sure Cassie would've watched this without you.

Richard Maurer

That’s what I like about this mob movie, it de-glamorizes the whole mob lifestyle, even if some people don’t see it (somehow) and actually idolize Tony. But they’re missing the whole point of this movie.

Richard Maurer

I’m generally not a fan of mob movies. They tend to glamorize the lifestyle and soften the image of the protagonists, who are really awful people, who all benefit from hurting other people. This movie however, doesn’t do that. It not only shows how bad the main protagonist is and how he ends up destroying himself, but also destroys the lives of those around him, especially his own family. For that reason this is my favorite mob movie (sorry Godfather I & II).

Clarence Newman

It needs to cover both sides in order to be the great story it is. For a while there (particularly the post-Lopez-killing montage), it's very much glamorized. But then, of course.....here come the consequences, boys and girls....

Ted Whalen

I was a big fan of Michelle in Tequila Sunrise.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, but even the rise has a lot of turmoil. It’s never easy for Tony. And the fall, when it comes, is a fall into the abyss.

Clarence Newman

Agreed. As Tony says to Sosa after Omar is killed, "This is a crazy business we're in. That could happen to anyone. Even you, you know?" Sosa's expression right afterward suggests he doesn't believe that (he feels untouchable), but even Sosa doesn't get out of this film unscathed. The whole reason he sends a hit squad to Tony's place is because his cosy life has been screwed by the mess-up in New York. Literally no one is immune to the drastic consequences.

Above Average Dave

Love to say this one when I'm wielding a spatula or wooden spoon.

Above Average Dave

Oft-forgotten but with some genuine sizzle is Al Pacino and the always interesting Ellen Barkin in SEA OF LOVE.

Clarence Newman

Scent of a Woman is one of Cassie's best. Her reaction to the scene where Charlie stops Slade from killing himself might be her best ever.

Clarence Newman

I've often wondered....how do the actors, or any real coke addict, sniff that crap up their noses without having a sneezing fit?

Brett Richey

I love how Cassie doesn't feel the need to use every muscle in her face when exhibiting an emotional response.

bgb1975 (Brian)

I was always something of a nerd for video games....but I don't remember this one. Cool idea.

bgb1975 (Brian)

Sounds like something a Narc would ask, Clarence! Narc! Narc!

Brett Richey

I have this for Ps2. I also have The Godfather and Resovoir Dogs for Ps2 as well. So many games came out then. Great days.

J E D

Hi Kat & Cas you guys should watch the original 1932 based loosely on Al Capone. Its a cool movie to compare the similarities against the blatant differences so that it is relevant today.

MrKsummer7

Observe the way Tony Montana sprawls behind his massive desk, or in the booth at the Babylon Club, or at the dinner table at his mother’s house, and when he meets with Alejandro Sosa and other drug traffickers at Sosa‘s house. Then see Carlito Brigante’s posterior on the couch with his girlfriend, Gail, in District Attorney Bill Norwalk’s office. Both characters share the same bad habit, known as the "Al Pacino Slouch". The actor has turned the power-slouch into an art form throughout his career. I’ve noticed him lounging or sinking into furniture in these films as well. The Godfather Part II, The Devil's Advocate, Heat, Donnie Brasco, and Scent of a Woman. Fun Fact: For his role in The Irishman, Pacino actually had to work with a posture coach to help him stand and sit with more "sprightly" energy to play a younger Jimmy Hoffa, as his instinct is to lean back and lounge.

Mark Vaderr

Have you seen her reactions to "The Shining", "Poltergeist", "IT", and "War of the Worlds"?

Brett Richey

She's fake as f#*k dude. Fair play to her... she knows how to work the game. But... Cassie she ain't. Cassie is a genuine reactor. I'm not interested in her other reactions at all. I haven't seen them and I'm not interested in paying money to watch an actress pretend she doesn't like horror movies while gurning for the camera to fool idiots. I subscribe to Cassie for genuine content. I like to see a person be them. And if your talking about Cassie's reactions to those particular films, then I have seen them... and guess what? Her eyes don't open wide as a motorway like some demonic, possessed harpy.

mitchhamilton64

godfather! another great movie tie in game! never played the resevoir dogs one, first ive heard of it really. man, so many great tie in movie games. the warriors, another.

Daniel Turbyfill

Now think about how different Tony Montana is from Michael Corleone.

Mojo One Thousand

Funny thing about that quote, the TV image is showing Flamingos.

Russell

I'm so glad Kat is back, she has a great channel too.

Mojo One Thousand

Based on the last clue I heard Cassie give, I did have this as my guess, so I had been waiting for this to drop, and was getting to the point it was slipping my mind. I think the clue was about a famous line and a lot of death. This is technically a remake, and I have heard something in the past that someone said this should be remade every so often using the contemporary situation as the lens to view it through. As the original is based around Al Capone, which is prohibition, and this is the 80s narco trade. This was a long time ago, and there have been versions by other names, mainly in limited series. Surprised no has mentioned (at that I could see) that Cassie has seen "Gina" before on the channel. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was "Maid Marion" in Costner's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves", also "Lindsay", the ex-wife and colleague of Ed Harris' character in "The Abyss", as well as "The Perfect Storm". Another movie that "The Simpsons" had a riff on. "Homer" encounters a crashed sugar truck and so has his own mountain of white powder, and talks about "once you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women". Need to put together a list of these episodes, I think it would be a bit of fun for Cassie to watch (or react) to these parodies. Also, this movie is pretty much the inspiration that launched the "Grand Theft Auto" gaming franchise, which usually follows the path of a low-level criminal's rise through organised crime.

Mark

I LOVED YALL REACTION

Mark

Kat looks so much like Julia Roberts

Jason Dolan

Other good Steven Bauer movies include THIEF OF HEARTS, PRIMAL FEAR, TRAFFIC, RAISING CAIN, THE BEAST, SWORD OF GIDEON

Jason Dolan

To this day i will never understand how Brian De Palma was nominated for the WORST DIRECTOR RAZZIE for this movie, but I guess they also nominated Stanley Kubrick for THE SHINING so sometimes it's good company

Richard Maurer

Kat - Favorite movie: Lord of the Rings. Cassie - Favorite movie watched on the Channel: LotR. Two women with excellent taste in movies. Great reaction to this great movie too, ladies.

Jason Dolan

I have two words for Cassie... FRANKIE AND JOHNNY!

Kit Taylor

Awesome surprise! This movie is an absolute masterpiece. For me I WAS rooting for Tony at the beginning, even in a life of crime. The anti-hero I guess you would call him. Like you said, honest. Until he killed Manny he never killed anyone that wasn't in the drug business or had tried to kill him first... that I can remember.

Richard Maurer

De Palma got a lot of (unnecessary) criticism for being a Hitchcock clone back in those days, something that doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me, but it was a prevalent attitude among critics and movie insiders in the 70’s and 80’s.

Richard Maurer

Brett - don’t be shy, tell us how you really feel about Kat. /s

Chris Thom

Oh good one. Kind of assumed it would be on the channel by now.

Chris Thom

Sandra Bullock won her Oscar AND Razzie in the same year. Wild.

Chris Thom

Same. With mob movies I often find myself wishing they would all just die in a fire because they're ALL terrible. Stopped watching Sopranos because of it. But still I guess it's always interesting to see the little ways in which they try to retain some of their humanity.

Richard Maurer

When I used to watch mob movies I would often find myself thinking ‘this movie would be so much better if the Punisher showed up right about now’.

Chris Thom

Love how the club scenes are shot in this. Always nice to see Michelle Pfeiffer. Not a huge fan of the ultra violence here. Just gross and depressing. Al Pacino is phenomenal though. For another great, over the top Pacino performance, see The Devil's Advocate.

Brett Richey

Bit much? Tbh calling her fans idiots is a bit far. But I really don't get it. There's a difference between being animated and just all out performance. I guess it's my loss. I genuinely wish her all the luck in the world. If it works and makes you money, then don't mess with the formula.

Chris Thom

I held off watching The Godfather until like five years ago because I had a feeling all the characters would be utter pieces of s--.

Richard Maurer

You weren’t wrong though. In the Corleone family, who (other than the children) is actually a good person? They all know where the money comes from, including the wives, and they all take the money just the same. You could argue for Kay, as she fooled herself that Micheal would change, and left when she realized he wouldn’t, but she still took the money. And if Godfather 3 is any indication, she didn’t give that money charity after she was divorced. Were the wives as bad as the husbands? No, but they sure weren’t good either.

Richard Maurer

I understand she used to be an actress and can be a bit performative - but - she technically still in show business. Movie reaction is show business and the ones who do well are generally the ones who aren’t boring. All reactors are putting on a show, Cassie included, whether it’s “genuine” or not. You have to have something to keep people interested, or you won’t last in the long run. Even the super pretty ones don’t get a free pass because of their looks. If they’re boring they lose viewers until all they have left are simps who would watch no matter what they do.

Mark White

Well we finally got the movie I always think off when I see your Avatar pop up Chris. Lopez’s office wall! 😆

Chris Thom

Oh right. Lol. Probably why I'm drawn to the club scenes. Something about a good 80's party.

Gray

She toned it down for this reaction and that made this a good watch. My peeve was the staring down the camera every 5 mins during the weapons reaction which she didn't do once for this.

Brett Richey

Go to 2:19:46 and tell me that's a real face. I mean... come on. It's right when Tony shoots the hitman. Looks rehearsed. Looks weird. Looks summat.

John A

Movie critics should never be taken seriously

bgb1975 (Brian)

I enjoyed "The Devil's Advocate". I think Cassie might really like "And Justice For All", too - it's a really good lawyer movie.

Brett Richey

Oh yeah... The Warriors. I got that too... I used to spend so much money. That was a Rockstar game though, so was a must. Need to dust off the old Ps2 one day.

Clarence Newman

I know what that expression is, Brett. That's Jim Carrey doing Henry Fonda in On Golden Pond.

Brett Richey

Haha... man, I haven't seen that in years.

Richard Maurer

As someone who watched most of Kat’s horror movie reactions I’m reasonably sure that everything mentioned in this thread is just how Kat is. And she doesn’t hide the “performative” part of her reaction, it’s just part of her style.

John Rando

No way that’s real

John Rando

It is. Turns out Rocky IV, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, The Expendables, Batman v Superman, and Ant-Man: Quantumania also received Razzie nominations for worst director. Not as criminal but still LOL

Brett Richey

If by style you mean - doing your homework on a film so you're ready with your best Edvard Munch at a pivotal scene... then yeah. At least with Cassie you know she hasn't seen it before. Isn't that the main point of watching someone react? (but that's just my opinion). It's why I only watch the full movie reactions. The YouTube versions just don't grab me at all. I need the full context, not just a compilation of micro-reactions. I just get the feeling that Kat's 'style' as you call it, is to get those expressions in at key moments for the YouTube video. Like you say - it's 'performative' and her fans obviously appreciate the humour. The numbers certainly don't lie. She definitely stands out from the crowd though... so good luck to her. Being an actor is poorly paid, and she's found another way of utilising her skills to her advantage. Can't knock that.

John A

To each their own, but I'm with you Brett. Just not a fan of the fakeness and over the top nonsense. I'm here for reactions, not to watch people watch a movie, so I prefer genuine reaction and not putting on a performance for their viewers. Same reason I'm not much a fan of Addie either, she just isn't genuine so what's the point? I appreciate Cassie for just being herself and not putting on an act

John A

If I remember correctly it was a type of Colt that was heavily modified to look more like an m16

John A

I played it but don't remember a second of it

John A

🙄

John A

Just further proof that movie critics are a fucking joke and should never be taken seriously

Richard Maurer

I could point out that Cassie never comes out and says that she doesn’t like a film, for fear of offending the movie’s fans. Is that being genuine? I’ll say it again, all reactions are at some level performative. Or does anyone think that Cassie doesn’t give more honest assessments of films to people in her private life?

Brett Richey

She does say it, Richard. She says it via her reaction. I'm always aware if she enjoyed a film or not because she 'can't' hide her feelings... and doesn't try to. I think this particular thread is done now. Let's shake virtual hands and beg to differ. There's no right opinion... there's just yours and mine. I'm glad gou like what you like. Look forward to us sharing commonality in the future, brother. I'm sure we will.

Rick Williams

Great performances. This is not a movie that you would watch a lot. Not a feel-good movie. This is only the second time I have seen this movie. But Tony knew how to go out. He didn't go out begging like Frank did. Great reaction. Cassie, you didn't recognize Gina. I thought you might recognize her from Robin Hood, The Abyss or The Perfect Storm.

Curtis White

Tony has a scar on his face, and the only time it's mentioned is the scene in the hotel with the Colombians when Hector calls him "cara cicatriz" which is Spanish for scar face. I saw this in college with a friend who spoke fluent Spanish and you get a ton more information that may or may not be in the subtitles. One of my favorite movies! (Very quotable too..."by taking her to the toilet to make out???")

Chris Thom

Omg how did I JUST notice the snowballs behind you. Lol. I don't know to what degree, if at all, that was planned, but it's so perfect. You really do love a theme!

Richard Maurer

Not to worry, I don’t get mad at people for sharing their honest opinions, even if I disagree with them. But I’ve had plenty of people get mad me for sharing mine. :-)

Vincent Vega

Mad she said Happy February... It's like she knew 😂😂 As for Tony Montana, he broke Rule 2. Don't get high off your own supply! I was definitely rooting for him though. How can you not root for Al Pacino. Literally the only film where I wasn't rooting for Al Pacino was in Heat, and that's only because I was rooting for Robert De Niro!

Vincent Vega

FUN FACT: Scarface was a remake. Not a lot of people these days know that the original film came out in 1932

JAKH

In the year after the Mariel Boat Lift (1981), the number of rapes in greater Miami & Dade County doubled, with all of the additional cases having Marielitos as suspects. Miami was already suffering through a narcotics war between Cuban and Colombian traffickers, with murders having increased from just over 100 in 1976 to over 600 in 1980. In 1981 after the influx of Marielitos, that doubled to over 1200 per year.

Chris Thom

Don't know if anyone mentioned it already, but Spielberg helped direct that action scene at the end with all the guys coming up the stairs to get him. All those big directors were friends at the time. Pretty sure they still are.

Rick Rodriguez

Crime increased substantially. No data on rapes, specifically. And partly this was because Castro forced some "undesirables" (including some hardened criminals, a larger number of petty offenders, and mentally ill individuals) onto the boats with the general population of refugees. The U.S. had difficulty properly screening these individuals, which meant some with serious criminal histories entered the country. Official U.S. data cited in reports indicated that around 1.4% of the total refugees were considered "hard criminals" convicted of serious felonies like murder, rape, or burglary.
