Aight Here we go fam 👍🙏💪❤️

Just Plain Bob

Being a lifelong Tennessean, I was gonna root for UT anyway. But the fact it was paired with the best movie in the brackets, Night of the Living Dead, will just make me root for them that much harder. Right up until they lose in the first or second round. 😢

Mike Redford

Even though invasion of the body snatchers is PERFECT for a scary but not too scary october, I wouldn't complain getting it early. Do your thing, Kentucky! Lol

Rene G.

28 weeks later winning the march madness picks was off guard. My Halloween gift from pick a flick list came earlier

Daniel John

For the love of Zeus. Florida won last year! You couldn't remember and nobody was telling you...it hurt my soul as a life long Gata. And they will this year again 🤩🐊 Was hoping they would get Out Of Sight...no luck. Did it get assigned to anyone? Saw couple regions in between work...saw it was high up on the request hope it got a good team if it did get drawn

Milton Reduxed

There's too many promised movies. Declare Year Zero and all commitments null & void with a blank slate Each week watch the top-rated movie from the website and do a random poll from the top-250 It makes it more exciting than slogging through catch-ups, and ends all the faffing with polls, polls of polls, picking DVDs out of hats—free up more time in Cassie's life too

Christian Becker

That was fun-somewhat. From the point of view of a Bavarian who has no knowledge of NCAA basketball at all, it was rather confusing.🤔 I was however somewhat disappointed that The Court Jester didn’t even make it into the draw. All the scheming and plotting to get it into the top ten of the request list was seemingly for naught.🦹‍♂️

David Collins

Hawaii 5-O and Miami Vice NOT same difference!!

Mike Lemon

Or start watching the promised movies. Two a month and she should be good by next year. A lot of them are good, so we don't need to skip them. And - Yes! - to the second paragraph.

Chris Thom

I hope Clay gets here soon so he can recap, quantify, and explain everything that just happened here. Lol. Would be much appreciated.

Chris Thom

I think May would be a good time of the year for clean slate.

Above Average Dave

Very briefly: University sports teams are HUGE in the U.S. Every year, the top division of basketball, Division 1, which comprises nearly 200 teams of varying strength, has a 64 team single-elimination tournament. To speed the process, the top 4 teams lead four individual brackets. Each bracket has 16 teams. Each team in each bracket receives a ranking based on record and strength of schedule. The teams then play ranked matches, i.e 1 vs. 16, 2 vs 15, etc.) The teams play two rounds the first weekend with winners advancing and reducing the total number of teams at the end of the weekend to 16. Then they play two rounds in the next weekend, reducing the total field to 4. The final four play the following weekend to determine the national champion.

Milton Reduxed

Yes there was lots of movement on the leaderboard of Popcorn Requests today, as patrons tried to edge movies higher, which was fun. I'd like to do that every week—but to have any purpose PiB actually has to watch the movies ranked highest, or be drawing polls from the leaderboard

Christian Becker

Thank you for the explanation. I'm a little bit more familiar with college football, but that's not much less confusing with all the different conferences and bowls at the end. Due to my professor during my time as a PhD student, we had contact with Rice University in Houston, but they were not especially famous for their sports department, as far as I could tell at the time.

Chris Thom

My third time watching this drawing and I never quite understood exactly what was happening. Lol. So you're definitely not alone.

keoma songs

Waiting patiently for the YT version of Sense & Sensibility. Regarding the tournament, a little disappointed that Duke is a movie I'm not familiar with. They're always in the mix and a fair bet to win. Not feeling confident for whoever Michigan was, they don't have the guard play to win no matter how good Yaxel, Morez and Mara are.

Christian Becker

Yes, I could do with a little well-structured recap myself ;-)

Christian Becker

@chris thom Perhaps next time let’s do a draw using the English FA Cup or the German DFB-Pokal - spread some sports culture :-D

David Collins

Ben, make sure you fix the seedings (Iowa State and Kentucky are backwards for one) before we start betting our extra valuable popcorn butter bucks :D

keoma songs

It might have been mentioned later in the broadcast, but I think the version of Kingsman was the wrong year. I think they were the 15 or 16 seed as it was so it probably won't make an impact.

Clarence Newman

I did not hear Horror of Dracula called in the Horror/Thriller picks. Does this mean it's one of the ones Cassie has slated for October?

Larry Darrell

Did she go off of the new or old request list?

Catherine LW

Don’t worry. I am American and I am clueless about this. 😩

Mike Lemon

@Chris- That is an OK movie. Dana Carvey is good in about everything he does.

Larry Darrell

And I’m guessing it was random picks from a certain total of top films in each genre. This can only explain why the highest scored Horror film didn’t make the cut, or the 4th highest comedy didn’t either? Did too much random backfire and screw us? Didn’t see that coming.

Daniel John

You poor bastard. I'm a Gator. Other half of my family lives in Knoxville went to UT. At this point I just feel sorry for y'all you can't make a final four...it's amazing with as many good teams as you have had you haven't. Least you had baseball last year I guess lol

Just Plain Bob

And a twenty point win in The Swamp this year.

Jack

As a lover of March Madness and tournaments in general I wish when folks did tournaments at this time of year that are clearly inspired by March Madness to not do the four quadrants of the same stuff facing off together. Every genre should be in each quadrant, but the same genre can’t meet up earlier than the third round. Stuff like that.

YodatheHobbit

So how does that relate to getting exciting for our favorite films to be reacted to? Just sounds like a lot of stressful math and prolonged waiting to see which movie gets reacted to without fun.

Clay F

Refer to Movie Madness brackets at new website to see total 68 teams: -Drama/Crime Bracket has 16 teams. -Comedy Bracket has 17 teams. -Action/Adventure Bracket has 17 teams. -Horror/Thriller Bracket has 18 teams. I thought her and Ben did a great job. The way the MM brackets populated made sense and reasonable. Similar as last year in that each of the 4 containers (popcorn buckets) had the top movies for that genre to give 16 (or 17 or 18) randomly-selected movies to assign to the teams in that genre bracket. She said there were 32 movies in each container. In the text above, she said: "We will be drawing from top requests from both the old popcorn requests site and the new website request page!" But that wasn't addressed during the Live. However, when there was a question about the year of a couple of movies, she reference the new Requests (including using genre search function). For "leftovers" (”wildcard”), she dumped the remaining from each of the 4 containers and randomly-selected "28 Weeks Later" (2007) that she will react to.

Milton Reduxed

@ Yoda, the amount of faff that goes into planning this thing one could have just reacted to a couple of random movies

MikeLL

My Pick A Flick choice is a comedy ranked in the top 100 at the new site. It wasn't called, either. I think the movies were pre-selected and put in a spreadsheet that Cassie mentioned. Then they print it and cut out the movie titles to put in the buckets. So yes, a pre-selected list without some of our favorites. 😢

Joe J

If you didn't know, Cassie will watch the Final Four, she did last year. Her brackets insure a movie from each of the genre categories gets a reaction. Also, she does a Poll of the leftover Round of 16 teams.

Chris Thom

She said this year she probably won't watch all four because there's too much to catch up on.

Joe J

Bummer Chris...that would be unpopular.

Chris Thom

I think Apocalypse Now won last year, but not totally sure.

Gray

@Chris she might change her mind depending on the movies plus she'd had gotten through some of the backlog of films by the end of the tournament

Richard Maurer

In other words not random at all. Not only didn’t HoD get picked, but, from the new requests, somehow the next top 3 horror films didn’t get picked either. HoD, Let the Right One In, Cemetery Man, Shin Godzilla - not one of those got pulled? Were any of them even in the running? Seems weird to me. And why add thrillers to muddy the waters. If this how they’re going to do genre’s they should quit and use a random number generator to pick the films then go to the slips of paper for the teams.

Richard Maurer

Splitting films into genres/ combined genres (horror and thrillers are two separate genres) seems like it ends up leaving out films that should be there.

Richard Maurer

“do a random poll from top 250” good Idea as long as it truly random - no genres or other restrictions. Just use a random number generator to pick the films. Also instead to 250, change the number included every time from say top 100 to all the way to the bottom of the list - and anything in between. Hell, she could even use the random number generator to pick how many films would be included.

Richard Maurer

Bob - NotLD is my top film from the whole tournament - don’t care what team they’re attached to as long as that team wins.

Alex Ch

Hey. Fight, fight, never die. Blue, gray, in the sky. Stand, cheer, drink more beer. Goooooooo Rice!

Just Plain Bob

Cemetery Man is my pick a flick and will remain so. The only way it’s getting a reaction is if it wins something like PaF or a random selection such as the tournament. Great film, possibly my favorite, but too damn different for most people. It doesn’t just fit neatly into some label and it eschews the tropes that are the backbone of mainstream cinema.

SeanATX

It’s a single elimination basketball tournament over the next three weekends going from 64 to a champion. Cassie assigns one movie to each team, at random, and lets the tournament results decide what she ultimately reacts to.

K, Zachary

My memory goes back back to 1965: UCLA- Michigan but back then it was just only 23 teams in the tournament. Some autistics are good at Math some are good at remembering certain names, dates. Me I am good at certain sports statistics from Baseball, NFL, and college basketball, classic cars and the classification of animals, I use mnemonics for that though. Anyway did I hear you say Battlestar Galactica? Yeah I promised my gf, that I would bite my tongue. Sounds good Texas just won I know someone who is going to be happy, and Is texting me now.

Richard Maurer

Bob - I’m the one who upvoted it. Wasn’t sure it was yours but I thought it might be. Good film.

Richard Maurer

Also I forgot mention that when you sort the new Requests for horror, the musical comedy, Little Shop of Horrors (not a horror movie) comes up in the top five. Strangely, that movie did get pulled - but in the correct comedy genre. Weird how that’s the only thing in the top 5 “horror” movies to get picked.

Clarence Newman

Bob & Richard. This might not be a bad thing for you. Cassie said the selections were taken from the top picks in each genre (she didn't specify how far she went down the list and I think it differed from genre to genre). She then put them in a spreadsheet and randomly selected 32. When talking about Horror/Thriller, she specifically said she'd removed some of the top ones because she's already populating her October schedule. This bodes really well for HoD (#27), Let The Right One In (#41) and Cemetery Man (#67). Not saying they'll all get watched, but it's looking good. She also mentioned that all the monster movies had been removed because she plans on doing a monster movie binge this year. That definitely means King Kong 2005 and probably Shin Godzilla at #82.

Richard Maurer

Clarence - Maybe everything you said is real , maybe it isn’t . But there’s no reason they couldn’t still include those films in MM. if one of them somehow won the whole thing they could just add a different film for Halloween.

Clarence Newman

Very true. All I know is that she tries her best to please us all and naturally gets tied up in knots sometimes. She was showing genuine annoyance at herself at times when people kept mentioning past promises. “We suck. That’s the only reason. We just suck.” You’ve also got to consider that her and Ben are working from two different Request sites at the moment, so the results are going to be a bit skewiff. Answer me this, though. Given the choice of HoD taking its chances with the 8th seed in March Madness (which is what Cool Hand Luke got) or having it nailed to the October schedule, which would you choose? Again, I’m not making promises for Cassie, but given that HoD is the highest ranking horror movie right now, and didn’t make the list, it seems highly likely.

Clay F

The year before last. 2024. Purdue (Apocalypse Now) was in the Final 4 but lost to Connecticut.

Clay F

I like that each quadrant is a genre(s). She said she would react to the final champion (obviously) but wasn't sure if she would react to the Final 4. My thought was maybe a compromise would be the Final 2. She has mentioned this year the Poll of the leftover Round of 16 teams, but based on past practice we might get that. She did do a "wildcard" selection of the "leftovers" from assignment of movies to the teams -- "28 Weeks Later" (2007) was picked -- she said she will react to that wildcard (no poll). Her movie schedule for reactions is backed up. At some strategic point, she may just need to clear her backlog w/o reaction, especially for movies mentioned 4 years ago.

Just Plain Bob

I think Horror of Dracula and Let the Right One In both have very good chances of getting a Halloween watch. Both are great movies and I believe they’re firmly on Cassie’s radar. As for Cemetery Man/Dellmorte Dellamore, I’d be surprised if she’s even heard of it. It’s an obscure title even to most horror fans. I don’t remember how I first came to see it (on VHS) but I’m certain I hadn’t heard of it before I did.

Clay F

There were several ranked at the very top (e.g., Your Name) that weren't picked. She read some (e.g., Your Name) from remaining movies (not picked) in containers. So they had a random shot but not picked. If the very high ranked horror movies at Requests you mentioned included, feasible wouldn't be picked in random selection. The chances would not be picked increases the further reach down into the rankings. Also, horror was competing with thriller, so that lessen the chance that a high Requests top ranked horror would be picked (if included).

Richard Maurer

Clarence - I get it. The possibility that all four films I mentioned were in there and just didn’t get picked had occurred to me. But not one of the four getting picked? The odds seemed a bit high is all. As for saving them for Halloween - I’d rather now than later. Who knows if we even get to Halloween.

Just Plain Bob

Saw that the Buffy reboot fell thru. Thank god for that. I was a fan of the original show, watched the entire series two or three times. Trying to revisit it after twenty years was almost certainly doomed to failure, especially without Joss Whedon at the helm. Let Buffy and Willow and Spike rest in peace. As for the Firefly news, I share Cassie’s trepidation. Again, it’s been too long and Whedon isn’t involved. Making it animated makes some sense (how do you bring back Wash unless it’s either a prequel to or contemporaneous with the original series?), but its lack of a home doesn’t bode well. And Whedon really was the driving force behind the show. Whatever the truth may be about his behavior on and off set, it was his world.

Richard Maurer

Agree. Both the Buffy and Firefly revisits reek of desperation and attempting to cash in on the nostalgia of their fans (of which I am one). Both series were some of the greatest on television, and both revisits would almost certainly be decidedly inferior to the originals.

Clay F

Movies selected (Requests horror ranking, PR horror ranking): Night of the Living Dead (33, 21), Pitch Black (*180, 3), Split (9, 19), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (39, 12), Crimson Peak (26, 236), Red Dragon (16, **27), The Fog (8, 51), 10 Cloverfield Lane (23, 23). *Pitch Black not horror at Requests, so gave Requests thriller ranking. **Red Dragon not horror at PR, so gave PR thriller ranking. As you know, Horror of Dracula (1, 35), Cemetery Man (4, no requests), and Shin Godzilla (5, 90) didn’t get picked. I was pulling for Let the Right One In (2, 5) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (13, 6) to be picked. Some movies removed, e.g., Children of Men b/c she reacting to it. Don't know how Requests and PR combined to give top ranked -- but CM (4, no requests) and Shin Godzilla (5, 90) may not have been included b/c PR low horror ranked. There are no requests for Cemetary Man at PR.

Richard Maurer

I was hoping a horror film would win the “wildcard” pull. Too bad it was 28 Weeks Later, an unnecessary sequel. While It’s not a bad movie, it’s definitely not a great sequel either. Just kind of meh.

Just Plain Bob

“Unnecessary” describes it perfectly. When I saw it in the theater, I thought to myself “Don’t go there, that would be stupid.” Then they went back to the British Isles and I lost all interest. I’d assumed we’d see the rage virus escape confinement in some way and what was going on in the rest of the world. Not just the zombie version of “it’s pitch dark and I just heard a suspicious noise, I’ll go investigate it all by myself.”

Archer374

Hi Cassie. I have a request of a different kind. Been watching your normal channel for a few months and now decided to invest in Patreon, partially to rewatch some stuff that was removed. Since I travel a lot I prefer the condensed version on YT. Unfortunately I couldn't find those on your Patreon. Would it be possible to make those deleted standard YT videos available on your Patreon, please? Thanks 🙂

Richard Maurer

Clay - however you want to play with the numbers those four films (HoD, LtROI, Cemetery Man, and Shin Godzilla) I mentioned are the highest ranked horror films on the new Requests. The new priority ranking system makes their popularity irrelevant, as you well know. You can’t have it both ways - give people the ability to use a points system to push films higher in the ranks , then ignore those films when convenient. As I acknowledged earlier they may indeed have been on those slips of paper and just not gotten picked, while the odds are against that it’s not outside the realm of possibility. But if they weren’t in there, they should have been.

MikeLL

I put up a notice for Ben in the Discord that the March Madness bracket up on Popcorn Requests is mistakenly showing that Jack Reacher advanced due to Texas beating NC State last night. But Ladyhawke was chosen for Texas, at 46:23 in the selection YouTube video. I really noticed the movie pick for NC State, because that is my "hometown" team that sadly lost their play in game last night. Two years ago in NC State's epic Cinderella run to the Final Four, they gave us Tom Cruise/Spielberg's War of the Worlds for Cassie to react to. I was shocked in the selection show when NC State got paired with Tom Cruise yet again!

Richard Maurer

Cassie was trying to hurry through the whole thing (due to family necessities, understandable) which made it a bit chaotic. Not surprised that mistakes were made.

Mojo One Thousand

"Commando"... in the words of "Lloyd Christmas", "You're telling me there's a chance... yeah!"

Milton Reduxed

@RIchard, I like that idea But maybe set some kind of bar for the final draw, say top 2000. Ben could probably set up an algo that will draw 10 movies automatically using that method, so the result would look something like this Movie #01 — Top 10 Movie #02 — Top 20 Movie #03 — Top 50 Movie #04 — Top 100 Movie #05 — Top 150 Movie #06 — Top 250 Movie #07 — Top 500 Movie #08 — Top 1000 Movie #09 — Top 1500 Movie #10 — Top 2000

Joe J

Richard, I assume you watched BTVS on Dakara's channel? I recently found her since she's watching The X-Files.

Joe J

I want reactions to the Final Four...much better odds I'll get at least one movie that I like.

David A. Cruz

I don’t think it’s any better or worse than 28 days later, but The Bone Temple is a great movie so I’d love to see her eventually react to that one

Joe J

Cassie, here's a thought. Maybe set aside one reaction each month to catch-up on the backlog of your "prom, proms" and other films you mention often on the LIVEs that you want to watch.

Richard Maurer

I watched mostly on the Normies and Ashleigh Burton’s YouTube channels….besides the original TV run and the 4 times I watched my dvd set. Never watched anything from Dakara.

Richard Maurer

I think she should just do the poll winners and pillowcases pulls she hasn’t watched yet and then move on. All the like to, want to, need to, should watch movies - just let it go, people. Unless she specifically promised, or said I will watch this, am going to watch this, etc., she was just talking. Stop trying to hold her to something she never promised to do.

JohnnyUtah

Are we sure these are top requested films? Did you ask Gemini to tally them? 😅

Bill W

First time I'm hearing of St. Patrick's Day becoming a children's holiday. Leprechaun traps? Gold coins? In my day you wore something green to school (if you felt like it) and you had corned beef and cabbage for dinner (if you had Irish heritage). That was pretty much it. Shamrock Shakes....sure. Absolutely. But to hell with competitive parenting on Instagram and Facebook.

Joe J

The winner of MM will almost certainly be one of the films assigned to a #1 or #2 seeded team. Very rare for a #3 or #4 seed to win, it’s only happened 6 times in 41 years (since 1985). #1 Duke – The Next Three Days #2 UConn – Gone with the Wind #1 Florida - Real Genius #2 HOU – This is Spinal Tap #1 Arizona – The Last Boy Scout #2 Purdue – The Rocketeer #1 Michigan – U.S. Marshalls #2 Iowa St – Crimson Peak

Joe J

Every YT edit she still has is here on Patreon, some were lost I think.

JohnnyUtah

She really needs to do a movie sequels poll next month. So many she's missing that would be worthy watches.

Richard Maurer

US Marshalls is a “triller” somehow, I guess.

Joe J

She's promised a few she needs to honor IMO.

Richard Maurer

Hoping for some upsets. If it really comes down to those teams I’d have to go with Real Genius.

Richard Maurer

I’m trying to think of just 1 good sequel she hasn’t seen yet to a movie she has seen and I just can’t do it.

Richard Maurer

If she literally promised, then yes. Otherwise no.

Joe J

IMO Cassie should not be removing certain films from MM. If a film gets watched now instead of later, so what?

Joe J

Pitch Black is a #3 seed...so I've got some skin in the game. Probably better odds with PAF, lol.

Joe J

Predator 2 Richard...don't roll your eyes now, lol.

Clarence Newman

The available ones are all listed on her Youtube page, Archer, but thanks to the copyright Nazis, some can and have disappeared. As Joe said, they should all be available on here, so just put the title you want into the "Search posts" box at top right. You could also have a browse in Collections along the top line, because that includes an A to Z.

Joe J

Even if HoD gets on an October Poll, and I hope it does, it won't win or get 2nd....unless the Poll is a 50s only Poll. Sadly, Cassie never does decade only polls.

Clarence Newman

Based on Joe's list, my 'skin in the game' is very tenuous. The only film on my wishlist is Gone With The Wind, and only then because I think it's a box Cassie needs to tick. Hardly a favourite. My Cool Hand Lucas landed on a #8 seed so I'm not holding my breath.

Clarence Newman

She didn't say she was keeping them for polls, Joe. She said she was excluding some because she already intended to watch them in October. Totally different thing.

Richard Maurer

I did say good sequel, not ok sequel, didn’t I? *checking* Yes I did say good sequel. ;-) Seriously compared to most sequels Predator 2 is not bad.

Bill W

Two of the best movies- Sleepers and Mystic River, are up against each other- so one will cancel the other out- but neither has a whisper of a prayer.

Joe J

Never heard of Crimson Peak. This is Spinal Tap would be a serious snoozer for Cassie.

Clarence Newman

Rambo 2, Godfather 3, The Pink Panthers, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Batman Forever (a wee stretch to say it's good, but still), Hannibal, Expendables 2 with an unhinged Van Damme, Equalizer 2. So very many, we need 3 polls.

Bill W

Cassie- you watched The Quiet Man (John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Ward Bond) wayyy back in 2022. I will concede you have watched other Irish themed movies at different times of the year- most recently In The Name of the Father (Sept. '25), and Far and Away (PPotM- Valentines/Love month 2022), and Gangs of New York (livestream Pillowcase Pull May '23) Recs for the repeatedly neglected St. Patrick's Day viewing😀☘️: The Commitments (1991) Colm Meaney. music/comedy (you know Colm from Star Trek TNG + DS9, and Mystery Alaska) The Wind that Shakes the Barley (2006) Cillian Murphy. Historical drama Michael Collins (1996) Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, Alan Rickman. Historical drama The Boys from County Clare (2003) Colm Meaney, Andrea Corr. Music/ comedy/ drama/ romance. The Boxer (1996) Daniel Day Lewis, Emily Watson. Drama/sports Shadow Dancer (2012) Clive Owen. Political thriller. '71 (2014) Historical drama/thriller Black '47 (2018) Hugo Weaving. Historical drama

Joe J

I doubt HoD was one of the films she set aside for October.

Richard Maurer

Crimson Peak is a Del Toro film, not considered one of his best (not by me, anyway). It was a flop at the box office.

Clarence Newman

+1 for The Commitments. She'll need subtitles on, but it's a great little flick.

Richard Maurer

Godfather ll and the Pink Panthers I’ll give you. The rest range from meh to barf. Rambo 2 is a 🤮 one, btw. Edit:for some reason I thought you wrote Godfather 2, probably because I didn’t think you’d try to pass off Godfather 3 as a good sequel.

Clarence Newman

Not so sure, Joe. It's not exactly Human Centipede and Richard has been plugging it Ad Nausoleum for the past 10 years. I think it might have a shot.

Richard Maurer

Maybe she could watch it for my 5 year anniversary as a patron, coming up in May, lol.

Mark Vaderr

Night of the Living Dead, is probably the best horror movie in that region. As much as I would love for that movie to win, my Michigan Wolverines are in the same region, so I gotta stick with my team.

Just Plain Bob

I liked Fright Night 2 and saw recently that it’s finally getting a blu ray release. And Psycho 2 is way better than it has any right to be.

Joe J

Equalizer 2 (with Pedro) is excellent IMO. Expendables 2 is one I think Cassie wants to watch.

Richard Maurer

Bob - to me anyway, a sequel can be good, or okay, and still be unnecessary.

Archer374

ok thanks. There's at least 10 I'm missing. Pity. Also I can't find the YT Edits here. There's no search bar in the web version of the page. Any idea why they weren't re-uploaded? I honestly thought they were deleted on purpose since most are either the first in a series (Ghostbusters) or especially popular episodes or movies or a series like Star Trek VI (while Star Trek V) is still there. Well in any case this Patreon definitely isn't any use to me then. Thanks guys.

Mark Vaderr

I didn't know they were trying to do a Buffy reboot. Glad it's not happening. The show ended on a satisfying note, it doesn't need to be revisited. Without Joss Whedon it wouldn't be the same.

Just Plain Bob

Agree. And, in general, I’m not a fan of sequels. But I think I probably have more exceptions to that rule than some. That said, there’s still so many good films to react to that I hate seeing slots wasted on sequels, reboots, remakes and rewatches. Plus, as long as people keep buying tickets to watch crap, Hollywood will continue to create crap.

Mark Vaderr

Yeah, that is a reach. The same as "Charade" being a comedy.

Joe J

HoD and CHL are long overdue a reaction, you two lifers have fought the good fight above and beyond. Clay got Lost in Translation last year and will get Children of Men soon I think. And Stick finally got Midnight Run after 4 years, lol. This is a long war...but some battles can be won.

Christian Becker

Not only was Horror of Dracula sorely missing, but all my efforts to push The Court Jester seemed to be in vain - that one wasn’t in the lottery either.

Mark Vaderr

Even though my pick-a-flick nominee "Dark City" has crawled it's way into the Top 25, it wasn't picked. Then again there was no Science Fiction Region, so it may not have qualified.

Clay F

+1 for Michael Collins (1996) +1 for '71 (2014) I've read that The Wind that Shakes the Barley (2006) (Cillian Murphy) is good but haven't seen it -- on my watchlist.

Christian Becker

The betting thing will be very interesting for me. Absolutely no idea which teams are actually good enough to upset the top-ranked teams. So I’m betting on the movies I like - I’m sure that is exactly the winning strategy.😄

Christian Becker

Well, at least it ups the chance that I look into one or two games. Never really liked playing basketball myself. Having your nose closer to the ground (175 cm or 5'9"), like all the others, didn’t help either. As a German, it was more or less obligatory to play football/soccer anyway, which I did and liked. And concerning the movies: if I’m honest with myself, I don’t really care what movie Cassie watches. I’m here for her. And I’m sure that after making it through Sense and Sensibility, I’m ready for even scarier things she might watch. Fried Green Tomatoes will be the next challenge for me ;-)

Richard Maurer

Sorry, I put that answer under the wrong comment. My only excuse is that I was cooking lunch at the time. Edit: I moved it to the right commment.

Richard Maurer

The “genres” were rather loosely defined. Pacific Rim made into the action category, even though it’s more of a sci-fi/monster movie. And Pitch Black got picked for horror, but it’s really sci-fi/action. Dark City could have been placed in drama with those loose parameters.

Christian Becker

No problem! I like reading your comments ;-)

Christian Becker

But I was also confused by some things. Where was my Court Jester? Maybe he took a sip from the vessel with the pestle. I don’t know by what criteria she sorted the movies into their respective brackets. Did she use total points or upvotes? That really changes the list.

Richard Maurer

Christian - apparently they randomly picked from a list of the top movies, so I can see them not picking one movie like The Court Jester or Horror of Dracula. I just wish Cassie would have shown the remaining horror / thriller films like she did with the others. Then none of this speculation would be happening - or it would have made it worse, honestly not sure.

Richard Maurer

There are a lot of ways to do it using truly random picks. The more restrictions they place on it the less random it gets. I just wish, even they did it one time only, they’d do random picks with a random number generator, from all the movies with 1 upvote or more, say 20 or 30 picks. Then use the number generator to pick the winner. It would be so much fun seeing which films got picked and which one won, based on pure random chance.

Richard Maurer

Teams? I care nothing about teams. They exist merely to contend for the futures of the movies they represent! ;-)

Mike Lemon

Leprechaun and Blown Away (with Jeff Bridges) can also fit an Irish/St. Patrick theme.

Mike Lemon

@Bob- "Renting" that movie now for a weekend watch. Should I watch the Italian or English, or doesn't it matter?

MikeLL

And Thanks to Ben for updating that! Ladyhawke made it to the round of 64!

Bill W

'Barley' is gritty and gripping. Cassie will need tissues, and maybe an antacid. Same timeline as Michael Collins, but set in County Cork, far from Dublin.

Clay F

How many reaction slots set aside that week (for that one day) for the catch-up -- 1, 2, or 3?

Clay F

I am not really interested in any of those 8, except maybe This is Spinal Tap. I've wanted to watch Gone with the Wind for educational purposes. Real Genius would probably be my 3rd choice = a decently rated Val Kilmer movie. I like Last Boy Scout back in the day, but not really anymore. Anything but The Next Three Days, The Rocketeer, and U.S. Marshals. U.S. Marshals is such a letdown after The Fugitive. I noticed while watching the picks real-time in the Live, the No.1/No.2 picks had no big spark to me -- in stark contrast to when Purdue got Apocalypse Now two years ago.

Clay F

Most sequels are bad or mediocre with rare exception. I am glad she has not reacted to Predator 2. Sad that Glover got caught up in that. The film is one-dimensional loud characters with so much violence and not much of a script. Boring. With that said, if she reacted to Predator 2, I would be happy for my fellow patrons who have been asking for it.

Clay F

I agree with Richard. Joe, do you have evidence that she used the word "promise" for those few?

Joe J

Set aside one reaction each month is what I meant...I corrected it.

Joe J

"The film is one-dimensional loud characters with so much violence and not much of a script". That just about describes every action film made in the 80s & 90s. But hey...I don't hold that against them...😂

Richard Maurer

Sine they didn’t share that part of the process with us it’s impossible to say exactly how the films were chosen for the list. But once they got on the list they were apparently picked at random.

Milton Reduxed

I lost 50 bucks on my first bet, but I've got a new system and am hoping to claw that back tonight!

Chris Thom

Dang that was two years ago already? My sense of time is muffed.

Richard Maurer

Mike - especially Leprechaun - the truest representation of Irish culture on film. ;-)

Larry Darrell

The Commitments was runner up in a St. Patrick’s Day poll years ago, but has never reappeared in a poll since.

Shawn Kildal

Well, BYU didn't last very long in the tournament

Bill W

Richard- 🤣 exactly why I wouldn't recommend either of those, or The Devil's Own. They're barely Irish. Also...because they'd probably win a poll. 🙄

With the first day of 1st round games completed, we now know the 2nd round schedule for Saturday. I took the liberty of creating a viewing guide, including which channel each game can be seen on (in the U.S.). All times are Central Standard Time. The 8 games scheduled for Saturday are as follows: 11:10 AM CBS US Marshalls (Michigan) vs They Live (St. Louis) 1:45 PM CBS Regarding Henry (Michigan St.) vs Casino (Louisville) 4:15 PM CBS The Next Three Days (Duke) vs Elephant Man (TCU) 5:10 PM TNT This is Spinal Tap (Houston) vs American Graffiti (Texas A&M) 6:10 PM TBS Ladyhawke (Texas) vs RED (Gonzaga) 6:50 PM CBS Little Shop of Horrors (Illinois) vs Nine to Five (VCU) 7:45 PM TNT Three Amigos (Nebraska) vs High Fidelity (Vanderbilt) 8:45 PM TBS Scott Pilgrim vs the World (Arkansas) vs The Last Starfighter (High Point)

Christian Becker

Hey - Ladyhawke has brought me luck so far ;-) Go Longhorns! Do they stand any chance against Gonzaga in the next round?

Joe J

Upsets can happen, but Gonzaga is a #3 seed....so very unlikely for a #11 to take them down.

With the second day of 1st round games completed, we now know the 2nd round schedule for Sunday. I took the liberty of creating a viewing guide, including which channel each game can be seen on (in the U.S.). All times are Central Standard Time. The 8 games scheduled for Saturday are as follows: 11:10 AM CBS The Rocketeer (Purdue) vs The Quick and the Dead (Miami) 1:45 PM CBS Crimson Peak (Iowa State) vs Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Kentucky) 4:15 PM CBS Cruel Intentions (Kansas) vs Mystic River (St. John’s) 5:10 PM TNT Pitch Black (Virginia) vs Night of the Living Dead (Tennessee) 6:10 PM TBS Real Genius (Florida) vs In Bruges (Iowa) 6:50 PM truTV Last Boy Scout (Arizona) vs The Book of Eli (Utah State) 7:45 PM TNT Gone with the Wind (UConn) vs Devil’s Advocate (UCLA) 8:45 PM TBS The Insider (Alabama) vs The Hitcher (Texas Tech)

Richard Maurer

Rooting for the Miami Gunslingers, the Kentucky Pod People, the Tennessee Zombies, the Florida Geniuses, and the Texas Tech Hitchhikers!

Just Plain Bob

My choices exactly, although I wouldn’t mind Crimson Peak (one of del Toro’s lesser works but still damn good).

MikeLL

At least the Texas Ladyhawkes have advanced! They beat my State Reachers, and I don't mind!!!!

Richard Maurer

All my teams are gone except Tennessee (NotLD). If they lose this is going to be a pretty boring March Madness. I really don’t care much about any of the other movies.

Just Plain Bob

It was a piss poor selection to start with and has gotten worse as the tournament has progressed. My remaining favorites, in order, are: NOTLD (Tennessee) This Is Spinal Tap (Houston) In Bruges (Iowa) Crimson Peak (Iowa State - next opponent TN) Teams I wouldn’t mind winning: Ladyhawke (Texas) That’s it. Doubtful I’d watch a reaction to any of the others. Weak field to start and only got worse. But that’s been the trend for me lately; very little in the last two months that I cared about.

Richard Maurer

While I don’t know if purely random selection would for sure be better movies, I’d still prefer that to the genre restrictions. If US Marshals wins the Horror/thriller category it would be a travesty.

Richard Maurer

I wouldn’t mind if Ladyhawke, Rocketeer, Spinal tap, or Crimson Peak won the whole thing, but I wouldn’t be excited about it either. NotLD is the only thing I would really be looking forward to.

Buran Doyon

Clay do you have a link to view the current status of the bracket?

Milton Reduxed

I thought of a potential prize for the top 3 patrons in March Madness—The winner nominates 3 movies for a poll, 2nd place nominates 2, 3rd place nominates 1...giving us a 6-movie poll patrons can vote on

Andy Davies

I don’t know if you can get this film in the US, but please try: Letter to Brezhnev. It’s a love story based in Liverpool in the 80s. I know you’ll love it. You’ll need subtitles and a box of tissues 😂😂😂❤️

Andy Davies

I’m from Liverpool 🇬🇧 btw
