Hello all,

just released under an hour ago in the new Sputnik Modular Variable Waveform Generator. Here's a demo video but as with other recent videos there's a heavy leaning on a tutorial / patch technique angle for some things. So there's 19 patches that with some wave shapers (to cover the features of this module compared to a more basic VCO) you can try out for yourselves. I'm particular fond of the feedback patching, either sub into fold or drive or FM and I like that negative voltages will turn down some of the waves too.

For those that don't know (seeing plenty of questions on YouTube/Facebook etc) Sputnik Modular was founded by Roman F (of Buchla clone and now Black Corporation fame) who closed down Sputnik Modular some time ago. The brand was taken on by someone else and they released the Spectral Processor a short while back before this oscillator. The designer brought on is Andrew Morelli of Steady State Fate, who's a real wizard of analogue so I was excited to see Andrew's work with a different approach and design brief.

Tomorrow I'll be with everyone's favourite tape and test equipment fiddler ... Hainbach! So I'll be taking a break for the day from editing and recording but another video to come next week, some new music to share soon too and getting back to the previously mentioned exclusives from the last load of videos. Lots of that latter to come! Including two exclusives from this video, one patch I didn't use in the video and another longer patch breakdown for the final patch.

Have a great end to the week, head into the Discord to chat as usual (I've revived the QUESTION OF THE DAY which is always fun) and see you soon!

VIDEO DETAILS

Here's the new Variable Waveform Generator from Sputnik Modular. It's a discrete Buchla style triangle core oscillator with individual waveshaping animations, sub oscillator, linear and exponential FM, hard sync and LFO mode.

In this video we take a look at 19 patches to break out of the basics with your oscillators, looking at more advanced patches that demonstrate a variety of synthesis/oscillator functions and look at adding dynamic animations to your sounds right at the core of the patch. While this video focuses on the Variable Waveform Generator specifically you can apply these patches to other oscillators and wave shapers, so give them a go and feel free to let us know in the comments what's working for you.
