The music at the ✨ scene is titled "thaumazein" and it's beautiful that they took if from Aristotle, Metaphysics, Book 1, 982b: "Through wonder (thaumazein) men began to philosophize, both now and in the beginning".

You know the worst thing about torture is that it doesn't even fucking work. Even in the inquisition the only information they were able to get from torturing people needed to be verified anyway. It was the same with GB. Turns out folks will say just about anything to stop the pain

What's crazy about this time period is that there is little documentation to support the idea that the church tortured people for studying heliocentrism specifically. However, given the history of the church and all their misdeeds, we can buy into the idea that they would be capable of doing this.

On rewatch, that torture scene isn’t that long, but on first watch, especially since I was binging the show going straight from the last episode into this one, the beginning of this episode seemed to stretch on and on. I was so invested seconds felt much longer than they should have. I was so horrified I got tunnel vision and felt my own jaw start aching, and I realized it was because it was clenched so tightly. I’ve seen plenty of shows with more gore, but something about the apathetic approach to splitting a man’s mouth wide open had me stunned into silent acceptance nothing was going to stop this from happening.

I think while the prosecution and deaths of Rafel/Huberts might have been overdone or not an accurate portrayal, for this group of characters it seems more accurate as its heavily tied with the churches desire for political power and heliocentrism is used as a scapegoat to remove 'troublesome' people like Badeni and Nowak. However throughout these first two arcs its implied the bishop that oversees this region is either corrupt, paranoid or has an ulterior motive. Which allows the story to exaggerate the circumstances.

Every single episode has been so good. It's wild to think about how much emotions and thoughts this show can bring in just 20 minutes every single time

I just realized that the ending changed again in this episode. Since Badeni and Oczy are no longer alive, it’s now Jolenta looking up instead Oczy 😞
