Yeah, it's definitely extreme but I guess that's how hopeless the situation was. She prefered them to die peacefully than whatever the army was going to do to them. This show never really shows in a explicit way the punishments that the people get compared to shows like Orb or Attack on Titan so when you see MaoMao being extremely careful with his actions in the back of my mind I'm like: "she's a little paranoid" but then I remember how brutal and unfair this era is immediately lol.

I think it should be made clear that while we’re like 45 episodes into the show the anime is currently on Book 4 of like 17 lmao. I haven’t read the books but I am personally not expecting a romantic resolution in this season, maybe it’ll happen but who knows. Though I am excited for Jinshi and Maomao’s reunion regardless.
