Despite all the great things about my boyfriend Joe, one thing about him really bothers me. He's just kind of... messy. 

He doesn't like to organize his stuff around the appartment. Without me, we would have clothes and shoes squattered everywhere and our kitchen will be flooded with dirty plates.

It's annoying to always tidy up his stuff after he makes a mess when I have so many things to do with my work. I guess sometimes that annoyance comes out of me like an angry speech.

And I don't understand why he's mad at me for being harsh. I'm the one who's cleaning up his mess, so I can't say a word?

Aww shucks. Am a slob myself. I try real hard to keep myself together for dates but things get out of hand. Take it easy with Joe. Not sure you want to break up over this.

Omfg i totally understand you on this! I’m the neat one in my marriage but i try to be understanding to the fact that my super ocd neatness sometimes may be a tad much. I just try and find balance in how much i pick up after him and when to simply not. I figure i have habits that are just as annoying lol

WOW! My husband and I had this issue. Don’t laugh, we hired a maid. Everything is fine now except that I can’t ever find stuff because I don’t know where she put it. Plus the occasional we forget to put toys up. She has never said anything but I am curious about what she thinks.

I feel your pain! I am the same way with my husband, and there never seems to be a nice way to say I’m tired of cleaning up after him 🤨 But we live in the woods and he does the butch stuff like changing oil, chopping wood, and building stuff, so...it kinda balances out 😜

Taking from someone such as myself who’s looking at his clothes that’s been sitting on my foot locker for a few days and clothes on the floor, I know I don’t have an excuse right now to play devil’s advocate since I don’t know Joe’s side of it, but I know I’m currently messy but not a slob and do clean after myself. Just a lot of things on the mind do push it out of top of the priorities at the moment. Though I do wish things could have been said a little different so it wouldn’t come off harsh yet needed to be said. But relationships are hard work

It’s not 100% the case but I find that if my SO sees me clean up, rather than me cleaning while he’s gone, it does something to his mind where he’ll still be messy, but he’ll at least take the initiative to at least surface clean, making sure dirty dishes get to the sink, or that he at least takes care of his laundry. I think the effort I put in is abstract until he actually sees it. I have to say it’s the same with him - I tend to think he never helps until I slow down and remember - oh I did see him walk the dog, or cut the grass, or do his laundry. Relationships (sigh)
