Thanks Laura! My question was answered perfectly! 🥰

Cathy

Thank you!

Thank you Laura for explaining the crate process. This time around I live literally 10 minutes from the breeder so no long drive in a crate, just a very short one. I have to double check but I don't think the breeder is planning on crating before pick up but I will definitely check.

For therapy work, a couple of ideas: thrift stores often have wheelchairs, crutches and walkers for really cheap. One of the physical therapist near me allows therapy and service dogs in training to come in regularly. They have lots of equipment for the dogs to get used to.

When you were talking about Gait Freezing, what type of harness/handle would you recommend?

DOGGY•U

I would use a semi-rigid guide handle. I've also recently seen some handles that attach on the back strap and we want to avoid that. We want them attached towards the front at the shoulder.

Sometimes if you ask nice, and provide the crate, they will start using it. It's much easier on the puppies if they start everyone in a big crate, them split them into pairs, then finally alone but next to eachother. Hopefully your breeder will be open to it! (I'd try to get a crate off of marketplace that's cheap, and/or metal, as they might chew it)

As always, thanks for the helpful info! In addition to learning ways to help my SDiT learn, I really appreciate the respectful learning environment you've created!
