The first thing I train a service dog prospect to do is the foundation for most of the other skills we need to teach our service dogs.

In this video I outline this foundational concept, how to train it, and in what order I train each component. I also discuss why this foundational skill is my priority and how it relates to all future training you'll do with your service dog.

My doggie already does all this

I joined at the $4 level and have looked at the spread sheet. Is there a way to see how to do the rear foot touch training?

SLR_FL

My lands! Little Denver is just doing outstanding! Is it just me, or do you also feel he's highly intelligent and a quick learner? I'm just amazed at his progress! ♥️🐾

DOGGY•U

He is absolutely a quick learner! Higher energy working dogs tend to have quicker acquisition rates. But not always :)

How do I make or get a heel platform? 😬

DOGGY•U

The circular heeling platform is from a vendor from a long time ago. But the easy thing to get is a feed bin, and if your dog is heavy, two stacked on top of eachother to provide stability: https://amzn.to/4fZoROU You can get them at Tractor supply or other farm stores, or on amazon

Pia Hammargren

Do you use clicker in this beginning training? :)

DOGGY•U

I do - I teach both the clicker as a marker, as well as a few marker words (starting with "yes" as a general marker, as well as "scatter" and "find it")
