unfortunately I don’t own the printer so I wouldn’t know
hopefully someone else here owns it and can let you know
Well, I did just get the Hawk printed and put together. My slicer wanted to me to put some distance between the pieces before printing, but it turned out pretty well for the most part. The only tough part was putting the kit together. That does make me wonder though, are the pieces easier to put together if printed from a Bambu Labs printer or whatever you are using?
Or could it be the filament I’m using that may be the issue? (The filament I’m using comes from a company called Overture, based on recommendations from friends, as it never clogs the hot end)
at least for me, they were not hard. It depends on a lot of factors though, including how damp the filament is, what color it is, what brand, what type
of course it depends on the printer too, mine were bedslingers so I probably accomodated for some discrepancy in measurements coming from the type of printer
Hey just curious if there’s anything in the pipeline that will drop this month. 🤞
hey, I’m trying to work on a few, unfortunately life took a really bad turn and the time I can dedicate to this is almost zero
sorry everyone for the lack of updates
I actually recommend unsubbing for now as I am handling a situation mostly beyond my control
so I can’t promise regularity in any way unfortunately
in fact I was thinking, if those who are currently subbed could ping me their email via dm, I’ll make sure to send you the next exclusive regardless of the sub status, as an apology for the lack of updates
really sucks that patreon charges per time and not per creation
ha, just found out it WAS an option an they shelved it. pity, it actually made sense
Hey Nemo, love your work, to the point Id like to try and design some complementary parts myself. So to ensure maximum compatibility, I’m was wondering if you’d be willing to share the details of some parts? Like the diameter you use for balls and sockets, and perhaps the dimensions of the “weapon holders”?
I’m also curious about what tolerances you use between parts?
hey, I had planned to release a creator version of snapcore actually, but it’s taking a while to sort everything, I made hundreds of parts between hinges, weapons and slides.
The tolerances really depend on print orientation. I use Plasticity and most of them are 0, or even negative, since both pla and petg stretch over time. There is no one size fits all, I manually adjust every piece depending on how easy it is to compose. Unfortunately, this also mean it can vary a lot from printer to printer
I have quite some experience with 3d modelling (solidworks), but I’m relatively new to printing itself. Could you tell me more about PLA and PETG stretching?
sure.
This is both due to the properties of the material and the type of manufacturing. Additive manufacturing (what a 3d printer does) creates uneven force distribution because of the layer lines. You might have notice it’s easy to snap a 3d printed object if you apply just a little force along the layer lines. This also means that when tension is applied (through a joint, like a ball joint) there is wiggle room for the material to move around because of those, and inherent weakness in one direction. This causes not only deformation over time, but also different tolerances depending on the print direction (which I try to minimize)
Then, PLA is a quite brittle plastic. It doesn’t stretch, but rather snaps. It’s not elastic, and does not come back to the previous state if bent. This causes permanent loosening of joints.
PETG is similar, but a little more elastic, and that’s why I have the frame set to print with PETG
Thanks, I’ll have to tinker with that; so far I’ve more or less exclusively used PLA
(and I’ve just reminded myself for the 1000th time to build a proper photo booth)
that’s amazing!
just remember PLA joint will loosen very quickly, probably within a week
Hello ive just joined as a patreon and id like to say that while I havent printed anything yet im already a big supporter of your work! the mechs, the snapcore system all of it reminds me of my childhood in ways that not many other things have done.. so thank you Nemo! Your amazing!
